My class is absolutely in love with their new Syrian hamster! He is the sweetest little guy. Thank you Diane for your help picking him out! I could not recommend Furball Critters enough to anyone looking for a friendly rodent for a pet.

Champagne male syrian hamster ... born 3.15.21

I know many don't see rodents as pets but I have owned fancy rats and hamsters all my life so I decided to research and get a hamster from a breeder vs the pet store chains. Diane who is the owner is absolutely lovely and knowledgeable in rats, dwarf hamsters, Syrians , ferrets and chinchillas. She helped us pick out the perfect syruan and allowed us to handle as needed to find the right one. We are in love with our little boy and would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a pet. Competitive prices and she will supply you breeder approved food pellets to make sure your furbaby is healthy. She guarantees a 30 day return policy and if you happen to get a nipper She will gladly work with you. Please make an appt via FB and schedule your visit... she responds fairly quick.... located in the Santa Cruz Mtns.

Thank you so much, Diane. It was such a pleasure meeting you today and it was worth the drive. My daughter loves her new furry friend.

Amazing! I got my sweet girl here. Owner was so nice and let me in super last minute to find my special fur baby! I couldn't get the best picture of my new baby because she was so camera shy!

Highly recommend! Diane is very patient and explained my daughter how to handle and take care of hamsters.

Highly recommend this place. Diane is very quick to respond to the appointments. She was patient to explain my daughter how to handle and take care of Hamsters. If interested in Hamsters / rats then must visit this place.

Diane's animals are absolute breeding PERFECTION. I've been buying rats from her for years, and I've honestly never had rats like hers (and I've owned rats all my life, as I come from three generations of rat owners). Let's just say I've been around the block when it comes to rats, and Diane REALLY knows how to turn out the sweetest, cleanest, most wonderfully intelligent rattos! I also recently dipped my toes into the hamster world, and adopted two hammies from Diane as well, and let me just tell you... I am head over heels in love with these little fur babies. And... THEY. DONT. BITE. I held about ten hammies while I was there for my adoption appointment, and not a single nibble from Diane's stock. That's impressive. She also has a "no bite" guarantee or your money back. Now THAT is standing behind your breeding business. Thank you Diane, and thank you Furball Critters for bringing these little angels into my life. Diane over here is doing the Lord's work.

Absolutely amazing experience. Diane was very knowledgeable and had a wide selection of furry little friends! She was very kind and helped me and my boyfriend find the sweetest baby rat! She even told us about this special food that's perfect from them. Such reasonable pricing! We will definitely keep coming back! I highly recommend Diane and her furry little critters! We brought home the most unique little baby! She's a dwarf, dumbo, rex, rat baby! And she's so sweet and gentle. so so happy with my experience!!! thank u so much Diane for everything you do!!

My two current girls, just under one year.

I have owned 6 rats bred by Diane at Furball Critters, and I plan to continue getting rats from her until she quits! Every single rat I've ever gotten from her have been healthy, gentle- tempered, and whip-smart. I've included pictures of the two girls I currently have, who will each be a year old in a few weeks. She's so knowledgable and friendly, patient as I picked out each rat, and has an obvious love for what she does. I wholeheartedly recommend her for anyone looking to bring home a rat!

Ask the Community - Furball Critters

Hi, do we need an appointment to come?

Use my website www.furballcritters.com to book an appointment. I don't use Facebook for appointments anymore.

Can I buy a ferret here?

Sorry No. Ferrets aren't legal in California.

I’ve got some questions: What’s the minimum spacing requirement for a Syrian hammy? Are there any…

The preferred floor space for a Syrian is 600 square inches. That is just the cage floor, not counting any platforms. Habitats should be larger than 400 sq in. Carriers…

If we have a cage for a hamster at home, can we just bring a carrier? Also, do you have any robo dwarfs?

Yes, you can bring a carrier to take new hamsters home in . I don't have Roborovski's anymore, just Campbell's dwarf hamsters and Syrians

However, Ashley's screening process -not just with my dogs, but the dogs he would be staying with - ensured he was in a safe and healthy environment while we were gone. She goes through multiple steps to ensure that dogs aren't just physically, but also emotionally, safe while their owners are gone. As Radley has some anxiety issues, Ashley worked with us to prepare him for any potential issues he may have - which thankfully he didn't! If you want your dogs to be cared for, played with and honestly loved while you are away, Ashley should be your go to. I don't trust my dog with just anyone and the relief I felt each day with the pictures and updates allowed us to relax and enjoy our vacation. Radley didn't want to come home when we picked him up hahah! This is a great business with an individual who is knowledgeable about dogs and provides a safe haven for traveling owners to leave their pets. Will definitely use Ashley again!!!

Just the facts. Our…read morepup is 8 months old. Our plans were to travel abroad for 2 weeks. What to do? We considered boarding w/ established kennels, but wanted something more personal, bespoke. Among others, we were referred to Ashley Scontriano. We paid Ashley for numerous pre-trip visits, a few hours each, to acclimatize our pup, and allow Ashley to determine if he'd be a good fit. We valued her opinion and trusted her judgement. We received the thumbs up, with less than a week to go before our trip. Ashley agreed to care for our pup while we were out of the country. What a relief! We dropped our pup with Ashley, the morning of our departure, excited for our vacation. Less than 24 hours later, already 2k miles away, we received a text from Ashley which began "Please think of a plan B..." A plan B?? We had cancelled our plan B when Ashley gave us the green-light, prior to departing. The message continued, and I paraphrase, that our pup kept her up all night, crying, and she just couldn't take it. She didn't see that coming? Separation anxiety from a puppy, the first night away. She's a "dog professional?" What to do?! We'd cancelled our plan B, and wouldn't ask friends to take on a puppy for 2 weeks. Thankfully, Ashley had a possible solution -- we could pay her $200/day for "doggy boot camp!" HA! And I wonder how often that has worked with other clients -- too busy, too wealthy to say no? We called Beds & Biscuits. Fortunately, as our initial plan A, we'd completed the pre-reqs and they were able to accommodate our puppy. Glowing progress reports, too, from his stay with them -- yes, a needy puppy, craving attention and love, something they provided him. Something we thought Ashley had agreed to provide him. Instead, she wanted more money, after agreeing to watch him, and proposed drugging him to "better manage his anxiety." And so, after spending $$$ on Ashley's pre-trip evaluations, delivering our puppy into her care, and flying 2k miles away, Ashley reversed course, bailed...his "separation anxiety" (one night in) was too much, but it wouldn't be too much if we'd pay her $200/day? No thanks. And now she's demanding $130 more for the day/night she "cared for" our puppy. Ashley has said that WE didn't do enough before departing -- that the time at her home was insufficient, that she was "set up to fail." As a "dog professional," wasn't this something she should have, could have flagged BEFORE we departed? She didn't -- she assured us our pup would be well cared for, that he was settling in just fine. And then we departed, flew 2k miles, and without a conversation texts us "Please think of a plan B..." Incredibly unprofessional. Lacking completely in scruples and integrity. Further -- if you care at all about who you're entrusting your dog to, the quality of the human being -- who you're giving your money to -- then please do what we should have done, prior to this whole mess. 1-Star Review - Extremely Disappointed - Would Not Recommend…read moreI boarded my two dogs at Heritage Kennel in Santa Cruz for four days and was very disappointed with the care they received. One of my dogs, Winnie, arrived with a paw wound. She was wearing a cone and sock, and I provided all the necessary supplies: gauze, bandages, and ointment, along with clear instructions for treatment. None of the supplies were used. When I picked her up, her paw was noticeably worse than when I dropped her off. Additionally, when I collected their bedding to take home and wash, there were dead bugs on the bottom. I also specifically requested anxiety medication for the dogs for the car ride home. I'm not sure if it was ever given -- the dogs were extremely anxious and distressed during the drive. If the medication had been administered as requested, they should have been calm and sleepy for the trip. For the price paid (including what appeared to be charges related to Winnie's paw treatment that was never provided), I expected basic care and follow-through on instructions. This felt like a complete failure of the "VIP treatment" I was hoping for. If dogs could talk, I'd love to hear exactly what happened (or didn't happen) while they were there. I will not be bringing my dogs back to Heritage Kennel.

The first year with my golden retriever, Luka, was extremely hard. He was a mouthy dog who had zero boundaries at home or outside. He would get excited or frustrated and grab/bite onto my shoes or clothes daily. Walking him became an impossible task because he was extremely dog-reactive, and he dragged me a couple of times while trying to chase another dog. Walking him also became a two-person job, with someone always on the lookout for other dogs so we could turn the other way. He also began to resource guard and snapped at my dad twice.. I had already spent thousands on another trainer and didn't have much success. I began to feel like this was just what life with Luka would be like forever. It got to the point where I felt scared of him, and the life I was giving him out of that fear wasn't fair to him. So I decided to try and get help one last time. I found Lori's page and after reading the reviews I became hopeful again. I took Luka in for an evaluation, and Lori recommended their board-and-train program. I can't thank Chelsea and Lori enough for everything they've done. I've learned so much about Luka, how to manage different situations, and how to better understand his behavior. We had training lessons throughout his board-and-train stay and afterward, because we are the ones who need most of the training! Chelsea did an amazing job with Luka. At home, Luka is unrecognizable in the best way. We can actually go on adventures outside without being terrified that we won't be able to handle him. Those who knew Luka before his stay and see him now always comment on how well he is doing. I cannot recommend Lori Hamilton's Dog training enough to anyone who feels like they've tried everything and is feeling discouraged. I am so thankful because it finally feels like Luka and I can start living life and enjoying everything around us.

She trained us and trained him and ultimately transformed life at home. Our 3 cats are now able to be in the same room as him. Our visitors no longer have him standing up on their chest in exuberant greeting. We can relax and have dinner without Ruben trying to eat our feet or running zoomies around the room. We can walk him without having our arms ripped out of our sockets. He is calm around other dogs. He is crate trained and easily goes to sleep at night. He has his own treadmill and works out twice a day, in addition to our daily walks. We been to Pack walks with Lori and 15 other dogs, all walking obediently through the Pruneyard shopping center. The dogs get to work on socialization and good manners on these field trips. Lori came to our house and we staged a meal with a visitor. It really helped us learn how to keep him on his best behavior during meal time with a guest!!! Our first year with Ruben was really tough, he was not the mellow golden retriever we anticipated. Lori's teaching changed everything. She provided the methods and the tools to help us have the best outcome and a relaxed home life with our beautiful dog; more than we ever expected!!!
