I LOVE THIS GYM! Rachel is the best because she is so cool and awesome and has the prettiest hair ever. She's also so good at climbing and can do a really cool, strength intensive pose. Also everyone that works here is cool and awesome and great at climbing, shoutout Ventura

First time here. Awesome experience. Came with a friend over the weekend. I had no idea this place existed. I've heard of indoor climbing gyms but had always been fairly intimidated as I'm no pro when it comes to that sport. I was happy to see that this venue catered to all skill levels. The place is on the outskirts of town in a large, newer warehouse. It's bright and clean, with ample parking. There were a good amount of other users here when I came early afternoon, but the courses weren't busy to the point where it felt crowded. Boulderdash offers two options: a rock climbing wall with harnesses (which you need to be certified in), and a free form bouldering section. As I'm not certified in belaying, I opted for the shorter bouldering area. $25 got me a day pass along with shoe rental. The walls are color coded by skill level. Being the absolute novice I am, I stuck with the easiest sections (sturdier grips). I was able to navigate up to the top of a few different sections and would liken the experience to a jungle gym. It was a crazy workout and I'm still feeling it two days later. There were all ages and skill levels here. I will admit that I was a little intimidated but don't feel that I was judged by the others. It was a welcoming environment and I was free to climb where I wanted. The flooring is a large trampoline of sorts and won't hurt you all that much if you lose grip and fall. This was an adrenaline-inducing experience and I would come back again sometime.

Dang the rep was so cranky. Felt super uncomfortable and unwelcome. I guess certain people aren't welcome. Never going back.

Came up to the central coast to zip line and rock climb. Santa Barbara rock gym offers a belay and…read moretop rope climbing class several times a week. I took the Saturday afternoon offering. We spent 2 hours talking about climbing, learning and practicing tying knots, rigging safety gear and harnesses. Working on our belay and braking techniques, and ultimately putting it all together and rotating through top rope climbing, belaying, and observation of the other class members. At the 2 hour mark we had a firm grip, pun intended, on top rope belay and safety. Unfortunately we weren't able to take our belay test that day. The gym policy is that students need to come back a different day to test their skills and knowledge. If I was local I would have come back and taken my test. But I am confident that I have the practice and knowledge to test at my local rock climbing gym and get certified. And that was the ultimate purpose of my trip. I didn't tour the whole gym because I was focused on the class and learning the ropes, again pun intended, so I can't speak to everything. The front of the gym, the climbing walls, and men's restroom were all clean and tidy. The staff were helpful and friendly. The overall vibe was really positive. There were auto belay climbing areas as well as top rope and bouldering. The next time I am in the area I hope to spend more time at Santa Barbara rock gym to really explore the facilities and climbing walls. Also I had a little trouble finding the parking lot. It's behind the gym and accessed from a side street. The parking lot is shared with REI and several other businesses.

Parking is a bit small since it's shared with other businesses. Day passes are decently priced. Nothing crazy. Annabelle helped get me set up. She was super patient and sweet. I've climbed at Hangar 18 which is in the OC so I had an idea of what to expect here. Also a tip for future new climbers going to a new gym, try to fill out the waiver online before arriving. Cuts some time out. Pretty clean gym and not too busy for a Saturday early afternoon.

I used 2 before I had to move to the city. When I called recently, they still had my info and told me my passes were NOT expired!?!?! I'm so grateful I held onto the barcode they gave me back then. Anyways, this location is very accessible. Lots of parking available. They have a small joint locker room available if you want to put some stuff away, but most people here just leave their stuff in the lobby or carry it with them. This is not like a Touchstone gym where guys and girls have their own locker and shower, but they have the basic necessities for a climbing gym. This specific location is more for belaying than it is for bouldering. I was hoping to coach some friends through a few easy routes, but there were maybe 3 v0's and 2 v1's. I had to throw my friends right into the deep end with some v2's and v3's. The routes felt a bit short too. They seem to make up for that here by making the starting points very low. There are definitely way more routes for belaying and the routes there go very high. I'd probably get certified just to belay here. It's just a shame that they spent so much effort for belaying, but couldn't make the routes a bit higher for bouldering.

From the moment we arrived, Gabriel was the one who greeted us, answered our questions, and made us feel welcome. When we walked up to the front desk, two staff members, including the assistant manager on duty, were engaged in a conversation. Gabriel respectfully stepped away from the conversation to assist us right away, and he did so with kindness and professionalism. We had a similar experience at the snack bar, where we were overlooked at first. Gabriel noticed us, came over, and told us about the membership discounts. He even offered to help us personally, and because of him, we went back and had a much better experience. His attentiveness and positive attitude really stood out. Even with a few disappointing interactions with other staff, Gabriel made us feel appreciated. Thank you, Gabriel, for making our visit a positive one. Sky Zone Ventura is lucky to have you.
