I had the opportunity to visit here with my Cub Scout pack and take my kids d for their first rock climbing experience- what a treat! The staff was able to make the whole experience safe and informative and were so engaging and interactive with the kids. They cheered them on and encouraged them while teaching them safe practices and a safe space. Clean facility and the esperar activities rooms for group was nice for our snacks etc. I highly recommend this spot! read more

It was my kids first time climbing inside a climbing gym. Luckily we had a wonderful crew of parents who made the experience amazing. We were celebrating a birthday with a group of kids. The lady working the gym today was such a buzz kill. I am all about following the rules and being safe especially in a climbing environment. We were told two rules at the beginning. Harness and shoes must be worn in rope areas and the bouldering area is off limits to 5 and under and that was changing soon. Icing on the cake was the pretentious tone she gave my young son and I by stating that he wouldn't enjoy climbing as he is being put in a harness. Way to set him up for success by saying a negative comment before he even gets to try it. Remember boulderdash staff what you say around kids they absorb. Words have a huge impact. You might "teach" children in your classes but not all children are the same. I've never been to a climbing gym that a manager can go climb with friends and family for hours. She wasn't supervising who was coming in and out and what was happening throughout the gym. When said manager did decide to come around she was randomly yelling at our kids or us for not doing things she never told us about in the first place. One star for the power trip employee with a negative attitude. One star for the cleanliness of the facility. It could use a deep cleaning. Sanitizer stations would be good. The lady working chased and almost grabbed my child for accidentally walking in the restroom with her climbing shoes to wash her hands. Again I understand it's the rules and we followed the rules given. That was one moment a child forgot and a parent was standing up to stop the child from going in. The gym had plenty of beginner routes and top ropes. Boulder area could use improvements. The weight station is a joke. A few free weights and kettle bells crammed in a corner. We will stick with climbing outdoors. After all it is Southern California. read more

Ventura climbers are really lucky to have a well set gym. Interesting problems for all levels and I have climbed at more than one dozen gyms over the years. I also organized a work party there recently, including kids. All the gym instructors were super encouraging for all. It was a fun time for the whole family. First time here. Awesome experience. Came with a friend over the weekend. I had no idea this place existed. I've heard of indoor climbing gyms but had always been fairly intimidated as I'm no pro when it comes to that sport. I was happy to see that this venue catered to all skill levels. The place is on the outskirts of town in a large, newer warehouse. It's bright and clean, with ample parking. There were a good amount of other users here when I came early afternoon, but the courses weren't busy to the point where it felt crowded. Boulderdash offers two options: a rock climbing wall with harnesses (which you need to be certified in), and a free form bouldering section. As I'm not certified in belaying, I opted for the shorter bouldering area. $25 got me a day pass along with shoe rental. The walls are color coded by skill level. Being the absolute novice I am, I stuck with the easiest sections (sturdier grips). I was able to navigate up to the top of a few different sections and would liken the experience to a jungle gym. It was a crazy workout and I'm still feeling it two days later. There were all ages and skill levels here. I will admit that I was a little intimidated but don't feel that I was judged by the others. It was a welcoming environment and I was free to climb where I wanted. The flooring is a large trampoline of sorts and won't hurt you all that much if you lose grip and fall. This was an adrenaline-inducing experience and I would come back again sometime. read more

Great route-setting, cool staff, and a really cool community here. The yoga classes are also great if not crowded. But I got a few small gripes as a dues paying member: They don't seem to be changing the routes as much as they used to. There's a few that I think have been up for ~4 months probably. Not a huge issue but you get tired of climbing the same stuff, and after a while everything is super greasy, it would be nice if they changed it up more like they used to. They also bumped their prices up and got rid of most of the discounts. I can understand with the hit they probably took during covid, but they don't even offer a discounted annual plan which seems like a shame. One of the 'benefits' is a buddy pass for a new* friend once a month. I think the only way to use this once a month is to bring tinder dates here. (fwiw pretty sure a few members are getting their money's worth this way). I would really appreciate if I could just bring a few friends in once in a while without restriction. After I brought my cousin in at least a year and a half since the first time I brought him, I asked about the policy, staff said the policy was "in case someone had enough friends with memberships to keep coming for free". Just limit one buddy pass per month for non-members, they already have everyone on file to check if they've visited before anyway. Lame excuse for a stingy policy if you ask me, but I don't blame the staff for doing their job, just the ownership. So my few gripes are: - increased membership cost - lame policy on buddy passes - lower frequency of route setting If they fixed these I'd be a happier customer, but for now it's a bummer. read more

Update: recently got a membership when they changed their pricing structure, increased daily rates, and reduced savings from 10-day passes. This is a plus among many minuses. My main qualm is SAFETY: On my most recent visit, there were a bunch of teenagers in a big group. I don't really have a problem with this, but I do have a problem with a crowd of people around a wall when I'm on the wall. I don't want to get hurt or hurt somebody else if I fell off the wall. Another thing during this same session was this pair of adult men trying to learn how to do a backflip for the entirety of my session, about an HOUR. They were taking up a lot of space on the pads, not checking behind them for people before flipping, and nearly kicking me and my friends in the face several times. There was a guy egging the other guy on to keep trying and then doing a whole double back hand spring across the entire length of the bouldering mats. I don't go to a parkour gym or a gymnastics gym. I go to a climbing gym where people climb. I'm not trying to get body slammed by some reckless, childish actions. Later, one of the teenagers was inspired to also do backflips and then they just kept on going. Staff members saw this going on and did absolutely nothing. NOTE TO BOULDERDASH: I WILL CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP IF THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR IS SEEN ANYTIME IN THE NEXT MONTH. I think it is ridiculously irresponsible of the staff to allow crowding around the wall with no spotters, reckless climbing, and unchecked gymnastics routines. I get they sign the liability waiver, but it really seemed like they were going to break a wrist or land on their neck at any moment. read more

Wish this place could have a plug and play set up. Been to many rock climbing gyms that offer a play and play set up. You don't have to proove your self to tie the knots to move forward. Wish they would have a guide to help assist vs calling you out like a douche working a minimum wage job . Also, it's super easy to climb the walls , they make it sound like it's a mission lol . THEY DO NOT ALLOW GRIGRIS ONLY ATC USE BEGINNER BEWARE Definitely don't agree with their reasoning of having the belayer only use an atc so people don't let go of the rope. We had an AMAZING experience today. My four year old daughter wanted to rock climb for the first time, and we went to Boulderdash not knowing what to do or expect but wanting to help her to try something she was interested in. The extremely professional staff accommodated us on the fly. My daughter became afraid once it was time to climb. But Cat took time to quickly and gently build a rapport with my daughter, and ever-patiently worked as her belay to help her make it to the top. My daughter left feeling accomplished and more confident thanks to Cat's positivity and encouragement. The facility (including the bathroom) is extremely clean. Plenty of space, great lighting, and a stimulating array of climb options. While we were there, we saw kids and parents, couples, novices, and advanced climbers. Lots of smiles everywhere. Great, positive atmosphere. Whether you've rock climbed before or not, Boulderdash is a must-visit. We're so glad we did, and can't wait to go back. read more

Overall a great facility! I've been a regular for 2 years now and I really enjoy the setting and the staff. Tuli excels at customer service! He quickly recognized me a regular, learned my name, and always greets me with a smile on his face! Always makes my day! My only feedback for the gym as a whole would be that I wish there was more work out equipment and space, but I think they do a good job with the limited space. Additionally, I'm not a fan of the spray/ "Stōkt" wall. I'd much prefer a moon board or another standardized training wall. read more

Was told I didn't pass my belay test because my feet came off the ground when my partner who weighs 160 lbs took a fall (I'm 100 lbs). It is true I wasn't used to their dynamic rope as SBRG uses semi static but I still didn't think I had done anything unsafe or in a way that would warrant not being allowed to belay. Overall I think the staff is nit-picky and condescending and the routes aren't as good as what you'll find in Santa Barbara or SLO. read more

Great boulder problems but really inconsiderate staff. Pre-COVID I would drive from Santa Barbara all the way to Ventura to go to this gym. Once I heard Boulderdash was opening back up I booked a reservation with my punch pass ID and was extremely excited to get back into a normal routine. I got a confirmation email that said I had a reservation and thought I was good to go. When I arrived the gym was mostly empty but they turned me away since I wasn't a member even though I had a reservation. Evidently the site has no validation even though it looks like it has some. Going to the gym was really important to me, I'm truly hanging by a thread mentally and NEEDED this. I felt very disrespected both due to wasted time and a general lack of compassion. I have decided that I can't support a company that treats people this way and will stop recommending Boulderdash like I did before. read more

I have been enjoying taking my daughters here for climbing instruction, and they have loved the experience. Now I am learning to belay so we can climb independently as a family. My belay instructor Mike Williams was skilled, personable, and professional, with an affable conversational ease that made it great fun, even though I am the old dog learning new tricks. Mike went above and beyond in helping me out, lending his climbing expertise and putting up with my myriad questions like a champion of patience! My wife and I had been there before and had a great experience there so she wanted to take her niece there for a day out. She made the reservation a few weeks before and was looking forward to rock climbing, however was diagnosed with COVID the week of her reservation. When she called to reschedule, they refused to rebook her for another date and told her that if she wanted to change the date she would have pay again ( she even offered to bring in a note from the doctor). Very disappointed in these business practices and their customer service, pretty crappy policy. read more

This is a great addition to ventura. Lots of great routes and very friendly and helpful staff. I have brought my youth group kids and my own 4 year old and they all loved it. The only thing I would change is the closing time on weekends. 8pm is too early and 10 would work better. read more

Looking through the rules and regulations for your gym it looks like there's many rules that go way beyond what most gyms in the USA enforce. I would recommend reviewing them as I have recommended many people not to visit your facility because of them. Some examples: Grigri2 is an approved and recommend non tube UIAA breaking device. https://www.theuiaa.org/safety-standards/certified-equipment/ Forcing people to use a ground anchor serves little purpose. The wording for tying in does not match manufacturer recommendation for most typical harnesses which simply would be the tie in points. "Figure 8 follow-through knot must be tied through waist belt and leg loops." As worded it could be easly confused with tying to the wrong parts of the harness. Thanks, Alex read more

I'm really thankful I tried rock climbing because now I'm going rock climbing about 5 times a week. The staff is really encouraging and nice, the people who climb there are awesome too. It can get crowded on Tuesday's and Thursday's but you can use those days as rest days. Staff can be low sometimes but you as a customer have to be understanding because if it was you then you'd be stressed. You have to take safety tests to rope climb which I think is good. read more
