Summary: Beautiful, educational, dog-friendly winery with fantastic wines! My favorite stop, worth the drive. Wine: Excellent wines, especially their fantastic reds! A little something for everyone here. Ambiance/View: Best view we found at any of the wineries we visited during our trip. Absolutely breathtaking. It is down a kind of sketchy gravel road, but I promise, it is worth the drive. The tasting room is beautiful and the welcoming committee (a sweet brown dog named Ziggy) was our favorite. Plenty of outdoor seating (lots of it covered if you want) and they even have a fenced dog run/park if you bring your furry friend! Education: Fantastic education here; the tasting room staff described the winemaking process and the history of the winery, plus the tasting sheet itself has some great charts and other bits of educational material which was nice to have. Bob, our bartender, also explained using charts and photos the stage that the grapes were in in their growing process, which was very cool; something I've never learned before. Other: I mentioned a bit previously, but this place is super dog friendly! Dogs should be leashed, but they do have an off-leash area customers can utilize. There is a "house dog" there when we were there, though, so be aware that you will likely be greeted at the door. read more

I feel guilty reviewing a vineyard in the Finger Lakes with fewer than three stars, but this was one of the stops that we felt we could have skipped throughout our Seneca Lake wine trail. The tasting room is beautiful and you have to go down a dirt trail to find it. The wines were really not my favorite and it didn't seem like the person doing our tasting had much interest in the wine. They were closing within the hour so I assumed it was because she just wanted to go home but there was nothing special about our experience there. All of the wines were white, one of the Rieslings we had was just okay. I wouldn't race back here. read more

Excellent wine tasting outing--one of our best in the region. It was pouring rain when we went, but still pleasant and cheery under the outdoor tent, which we appreciated because we prefer outdoors and the views, even in rain, are spectacular. Staff was friendly without being overbearing or performative. You could see the hands-on approach, with the owners pouring wine and working the cash register, which I appreciate. We especially liked the Cab Franc and the ice wine. I thought I hated ice wine, but tried this at someone's insistence, and it changed my view of ice wine entirely. Definitely want to go back on a non-rainy day, and could pass hours there. read more

This was our first time at BB and they are a new must. The tasting menu was unique - covering residual sugar, fruit flavor, aromatics body, etc. You pick any 5 for $5 but the fee is waived if you purchase a body. The owner waited on us and she was wonderful - giving us different things to taste and personalizing the experience. The wines we're fantastic, especially the rieslings and cab franc. read more

The owner was a complete jerk the second we pulled up. We had a group of 9 and said we didn't have a reservation before even asking. We did have a reservation. They messed up the time. Here is an idea, if you make a mistake, you apologize and accommodate. This guy blamed us and basically said 'how dare you show up with no reservation'. Don't go here!! read more

Great white wines and a picture perfect view of Seneca Lake from the back patio. The tasting room is beautiful, spacious and we were even greeted by a couple friendly dogs as we walked in the front door :) The staff was super friendly and from 1st hand experience I can tell you that cyclists are welcome here too! As we were riding our bicycles down the gravel road to the winery, my boyfriend and I got a couple flat tires (our own fault for not checking our air pressure before heading down the gravel!) As we were changing our flats on the side of the road, a gentleman drove over from the winery and offered us a ride back to the winery and additional tools if needed. We thanked him, but let him know we didn't need anything more than the patch kits we already had on hand. As it was also almost closing time, he also assured us that he would let the winery staff know we were on our way and he'd make sure they have wine and water waiting for us once we got our tires patched up. Once we arrived, we were very warmly greeted and our host not only gave us free wine tastings to help us forget about our troubles on the road, but also a free glass of wine! We couldn't have been more thankful for such warm hospitality :) Highly recommend that everybody take the side trip (by car or bicycle) off of hwy 414 and relax in an adirondack chair with a glass of their Bubbly Dry! I will definitely make a point to stop in every time I'm in the Finger Lakes area! read more

I liked or loved all the wines here. Lovely tasting room with copper bars in the tasting room. The owner Diana is so lovely and friendly and knowledgeable. Tasted the Bubby Dry, Extra Dry , Reserve and Old Line North Riesling. They were all lovely but my faves were #238 Dry Riesling and the Ovid Line North were my favorites. The Gewurztraminer was delicious too. The reds were lovely,  complex and very drinkable too particularly the Cabernet Franc 2017 and 2016 Cabernet  Sauvignon limited edition. I purchased the limited edition Cab Sauvignon and the Old Line North. A plus was that the tasting fee was waived if you bought wine. read more

My wife and I have been visiting the Finger Lakes for more than twenty years. We've experienced the growth of this beautiful region and appreciate the opportunity to try "new to us" wineries. Driving down the unpaved road to the tasting room I didn't know what to expect. The winery sits directly overlooking Seneca Lake with outdoor seating. The tasting room is beautifully done with ample space for visitors. But let's get to the wines. Rieslings are their specialty and they offer a range of sweetness with most on the dry side. I've tasted many Finger Lakes Rieslings and prefer dry or occasionally a semi-dry. We didn't select the extra dry with our tasting but were coaxed into trying it. We were surprised how much we loved the extra dry (our favorite). If you enjoy Rieslings the variety they offer will include something to your liking. Dry Rose has become trendy and my wife enjoys them. I was not a fan until I tried the one at Boundary Breaks. Has a nice dry finish but is the most flavorful dry rose I've tried. Now for dessert... I sampled the 2018 Ice Wine. I've tried many ice and late harvest wines and their Ice Wine was hands-down the best I've ever had. The 2019 is out now. I'm wanting to try it before I purchase due to the cost but I expect I won't be disappointed. The owner's are very friendly and we were fortunate to visit on an off day so she took the time to describe the wines in detail and offer suggestions for us based on our tastes. If you like dogs theirs is a great four-legged ambassador who can't wait to meet you. If you like the wines as much as we did, check out the wine club. Beautiful fall afternoon We read about Boundary Breaks in the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. Besides the wine they praised the view and mentioned Adirondack chairs. As part of a day trip to Ithaca we decided it was a good day to stop and give them a try - so glad we did. Before going to the winery we stopped at Brew & Brats in Trumansburg (another place worth stopping - see my review). We got into a conversation with a woman who turned out to be the owner of a new winery to open soon. When we told her where we were going she gave them good ratings and said to say hi to the owner (Bruce) if we saw him. While standing and tasting white wines we mentioned to the young man who was serving us that we usually preferred red wines. At that, Bruce interjected a comment, and we proceeded to have a long conversation with him while tasting the whites (mostly Rieslings - which were all delicious). We followed this by each purchasing a glass of Riesling to take out to the Adirondack chairs to sip while enjoying the beautiful weather and view. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to join their wine club and promised ourselves to stop back when in the area, especially if the weather was pleasant enough to sit outside. There are so many good wineries in the Finger Lakes region, and this is now one of our favorites. You won't be disappointed if you decide to give them a taste. read more

This wine is pure deliciousness. Our experience with this winery started out incredibly, getting a personalized walkthrough of the best wines they had to offer. The Extra Dry Riesling is one of the most enjoyable white wines I've ever had. My wife hasn't stopped talking about their Ice Wine for two weeks since we left. Great taste, better experience. If you can make the time to go to the winery and do a tasting, you'll get the Wine Club membership like we did. read more

I was a part of a group who toured this winery. It was our second stop with a large group celebrating two birthdays. When we arrived, the staff seemed to be inconvenienced by us and didn't seem to have much interest in us. In fact, when one of the Birthday girls when to the counter inside to order a glass of what she had tasted, the female owner of the establishment said, "isn't your bus leaving?" Well, it was then after receiving that snobby attitude and being subjected to pretentious behavior. It does however have a great view of the lake. The staff and owner were rude to BUS LOADS of individuals paying money for tastings, bottles, and glasses of wine who were on wine tours. Isn't that the purpose of their business?! read more

Visited today with a group of ten. The tastings were excellent with a good description and explanation of the wines tasted. The staff was extremely knowledgeable. Following the tasting we purchased wine to go along with the picnic lunch that we brought with us and sat outside to enjoy the view of Seneca Lake. We really enjoyed our first visit last year, that was a 5 star experience. They make some good Rieslings, something for everyone's palate. Our most recent visit this past weekend was not as memorable and tasting bar tender a bit unorganized. Hence 4 stars this time. Reds on menu just ok, come for the Rieslings. Best Rieslings up in the finger lakes. The owner, Bruce, did a wine tasting for my wife and I, and it was one of the best tasting experiences that we have every had. This guy is all about the wine, and very knowledgeable. The wines here may be a bit more expensive than some of the other wineries, but after you taste his wines, you will see that they are well worth it! This place is a lot newer than some of the other wineries, but a must visit if up on the lakes. read more

Tom from Muranda cheese suggested I try Boundary Breaks winery and he stated they had the best dry white wines. Well I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce who took the time to explain the process of making each wine I tasted. I have never had Reisling quit like what I had today. 5 bottles purchased later this winery is a MUST if you are into white wine. The only way I could describe the taste of the dessert wine to Bruce was that it was "PURE PERFECTION". read more

Group of 6 people. Visited the vineyard. They focus on white wines, Rieslings specifically. Really enjoys their facility ... It is brand new and really well done. They have a total of 14 acres of vines. Great view of Seneca lake. We did not stay until sunset but regretted that... Should have watched the sunset from this location. read more

First...this winery is now open...not only by appointment as the wine map states. I am from VA and am a Red drinker, but the Rieslings here caught my attention for their amazing flavors. Bruce, the owner, did our tasting and the background of the winery, the thought that went into the planting, and wine making is delightful to hear about. But the wines are the stars here. Bright crisp, off-dry to dessert/ice wine sweet....every wine was exceptional. And I haven't even gotten to the views... Down closer to Seneca Lake, it is simply awesome. This was our first visit to the Boundary Breaks, although we had heard many positive things in past years. Bruce and Diana take their Riesling seriously, so we knew it was going to be good! We had the fortune to taste through with Diana on a slow day...what a great introduction to the estate. From top to bottom of the order (plus a couple of "off book" wines), the Rieslings were uniformly good, undoubtedly some of the best in the region. The #90 "Extra Dry" showed superb aging potential. The sweeter #198 "Reserve" and Riesling Ice Wine were massively complex and viscous, but also had great verve and structure. We regret not visiting earlier, and will certainly be back! read more

We stopped at Boundary Breaks for a wine tasting today and were impressed with the tasting room and the view. Instead of doing a tasting, we decided to have a glass of wine and sit outside to enjoy the scenery. We were only given a third of a glass of wine for which we paid $8.00. The prices for their wines are much higher than the other Finger Lakes wineries. read more
