This place just opened up in July 2016. As of right now it's not quite fully operational, but they're open for tours, they do tastings of the four different batches they've got and they have a small store that sells their product. They've got four different batches of moonshine right now - a 101 proof and 121 proof. They have an "amber" that they've aged in whiskey barrels, and they have one batched called "Armored Diesel" that was my favorite. Even though the place is only half finished, and they're still producing their product at a separate facility until they can move everything in, I'm giving them five stars just for the stuff they have. They're adding a bourbon to their line sometime later. The master distiller took time to explain his products, and his son gave me the samples. I can't wait until this place is fully operational. Till then, make sure you bring some cash with you to take home a bottle. The Armored Diesel runs $46, and the Amber is $42. I forgot to ask the cost of the 101 and 121 moonshine. They have some of the bottles of Armored that are boxed in replicas of General Patton's footlocker for $270. I can't wait until they're fully up and running. I come here a couple of times a year, so I'll be sure to stop in at a later time. read more

I initially loved this distillery because of their production of military themed bourbon: Patton. CAV, 3rd ID, 82nd Airborne and so on. However I felt a certain way when I inquired about a military discount of sort. Maybe it's just me but I thought there would be at least a 5-10% adjustment for military personnel. They're only located 7 miles from Fort Knox and over half their inventory is military affiliated. Definitely disappointed in this establishment. Been to new numerous distilleries in the area and most of them ran 10% off for active duty personnel. read more

This is our first HH site We enjoyed the tasting & video. I'm not a bourbon drinker, really learned a lot about different whiskey & in particular Bourbon during our very informative tasting. The video was an excellent history of spirits in America. Tour not available because of Covid. The back lot has room for 6 large rigs. We are excited about exploring more Bourbon distilleries & wineries during our Kentucky tour. So happy we joined HH & finding good camping options. The staff were very friendly & helpful. This tiny small batch distillery is a must-stop on your Kentucky bourbon tour. The newish family run enterprise is a great counterpoint to the big establishment distilleries and their products are top notch. The family takes great care and love with their offerings and tastings are informative and friendly. Nice gift shop, too, with rarer offerings. They make not just bourbon, but American whiskeys, a nice cane based moonshine that tastes nothing like corn shine, and a cinnamon cane-based liquor that puts Fireball to shame. If you like bourbon and whisky...or moonshine, you definitely need to visit! The distillery is small, but the liquor packs a big punch. They have a little theatre room where you can watch a 15 minute video on the history of bourbon. There's also the "gift shop" where you can purchase liquor and other items, like jewelry, glasses, and t-shirts. Lastly, there's a tiny museum where you can view items like furniture made from old bourbon barrels (my kids enjoyed playing with the checkers) and a chunk of Lincoln's Boundary Oak Tree. Side note: if you're flying back and want to take liquor with you, you can purchase bubble wrapped envelopes at the Liquor Barn in Elizabethtown for under $2 each. They're big enough for two bottles, but I suggest you only put one in. We didn't have any issues flying back with them. read more

Boundary Oak Distillery moved into a space once known as a science museum. I suppose the kids didn't care so much for the science, but the adults liked to drink. In all seriousness, the state's local small craft movement has experienced both a new found interest in our state's classic drink for a very good reason. People really care about making good bourbon and the founders of Boundary Oak are putting their proverbial... mash in the barrel? Let's go with that. Boundary Oak is located at the intersection of Joe Prather Highway - the major thoroughfare connecting I-65 to Brandenburg - and 31-W - the north-south connector between Louisville and Elizabethtown. It's actually charming that the city renamed the back entrance way Bourbon Trail. There is ample street parking around the distillery and, as of now, the tasting feature can accommodate five to seven persons at a time. When you walk in, it's really dark inside and the clerk makes no bones about it - yup, this was a science center. Tasting is done at a pseudo-bar station; behind it, a worker idly checked or read something off of a tablet. Quiet day, I suppose. Boundary Oak's claim to fame is two-fold. The master distillers sold their first bottle of the to-be produced small batch for tens of thousands of dollars to an anonymous patron in the country. Second, and more important, Boundary Oak is experimenting with the inclusion of sugar cane into their mash, promoting it as a great taste additive and burn reducer. The tasting featured two moonshine proofs (101 and 120), three bourbons, and a cordial. The three bourbons included an "amber," the signature Patton, and a wheat variety. Servings were kept (understandably) small; the sample cups resembled plastic thimbles or lotion caps. [cues "The More You Know"] I mistakenly thought Bourbon was a strictly Kentucky designation. It's not. Any distiller who makes a spirit with at least 51% corn aged in a new oak barrel for at least one year can call their stuff "bourbon." It's the limestone water and the humidity of our region that gives our stuff the unique taste. [/cues] The 101-proof moonshine had a hint of butterscotch and was surprisingly smooth, whereas the 120 had that familiar fire feel. Of the offerings, I enjoyed the bourbons the best. The clerk explained that the amber variety wasn't specifically a bourbon or a whiskey due to its blend; I don't remember which. It was surprisingly light and, agreed, minimal throat burn. The Patton was the ultimate surprise. I'm an admitted novice to bourbon still, but this was probably the first bourbon I have ever had that I could drink neat. It's sweet and certainly not cloying; not that any of them were, but this one was the least so. The clerk explained that the Patton family wanted to endorse a bourbon reminiscent of a scotch-bourbon mixed drink that the General enjoyed. For that to work, it needed to mix well. Finally, the wheat bourbon had a full-bodied mouth taste. It's kind of like biting into a flower. Damn, I am *killing* it with these metaphors today. Anyway, the wheat bourbon really has a lot of flavor of the front end and it felt like the entirety of my mouth got in on the taste. I skipped the last sample - a cinnamon whiskey called Sinnful - because I'm existentially angry at Fireball becoming a "thing" in the whiskey market and I didn't feel like sipping a Hot Tamale. I found the clerk to be well-informed, charming, and delightful. She was knowledgeable about the brand and its production and made the distillery's history accessible to the average listener. My bourbon-appreciating friends have chided the presence of "bourbon bros" at a number of facilities closer to where I live: loud, tank tops, insistent on minutiae, braggadocious about the shots of Pappy Van Winkle they could afford. In contrast, I tasted with a group of middle-aged and older folks from out of town and the clerk kept things light and interesting. Great time. The tasting ended with a suggestion to visit the gift shop. Patrons can buy bottles of what they sampled as well as t-shirts, flasks, and bourbon-themed jewelry. I took a bottle of Patton home for just shy of $50, a typical price point for the small craft distillers. The only regrettable part of my trip was that the tour was not yet online. SUCKS.... I would give it no stars... I rushed there after class and got there at 5:30 pm.... their website says they are open until 6 pm... I got there and everything was closed up and there was a car there but ghost town... so I called... someone picked up, but then hung up on me.... I called back, but it was busy... I think that SUCKS... I was only in town for some Army Training for 3 days and had limited time... I had stopped by jim beam, which is Not really open til 530, last tour is around 330. And stopped at boundary oak on my way back to the hotel, and was pleasantly surprised. no. It is not bourbon, but it's a great drinking liquor. The amber was the best "bourbon" I can think of. The moonshine is dangerously easy to drink. And the cinnamon was literally like drinking candy. Went to the location from New York. Arrived at 5:30 pm and it was supposed to close at 6 pm. Doors were locked and person inside was drumming. When he saw us he quickly got up and closed the blinds and continued to drum. Did not give the courtesy of telling us whether they were closed, just left us to wait and leave. I traveled to Kentucky in July to see my son graduate from Fort Knox. I wanted to try a local home grown distillery, not the usual big name distilleries you see while traveling through Louisville KY. I stumbled upon Boundary Oak which happens to be the closest distillery to Fort Knox. When I walked in to the distillery I was met by the owner Brent Goodin who you would have thought was a long time friend of mine. You will not find a more down to earth person then Brent. He spent 20 minutes telling me about all his whiskey, bourbon and moonshine then invited me into the back distillery room and showed me how he makes his products. I ended up purchasing a bottle of his Lincoln and Patton Armored Diesel. (I am still kicking myself for not purchasing the moonshine). I have tried MANY of the expensive big name bourbons and Whiskeys out there and I can tell you that the Lincoln and Armored Diesel bottles that I purchased from Boundary Oak are just as good if not better! If you are in the Fort Knox area and love bourbon and whiskey and great people, this is your place! read more

The owner himself gave us a free tour of the facility that ended with some tastings of the bourbon and moonshine they had available.
