My 6 yo Trane unit was not cooling properly and the original installer isn't doing residential service any longer. A friend had a new unit installed by Bounds last year and was very happy with the service, so I called them yesterday hoping I could get service before the July 4th holiday weekend. I received a call from the technician within 2 hours who was able to meet me as soon as I could get home, which I was within 30 min. I told him on the phone (at 3pm) that I had an appointment and would need to leave at 4:40. Anthony (Tony) got right to work checking the system inside, then outside and determined that I had a leak somewhere. He had to add Freon, then added a dye to the system which will get checked in 10-14 days. Tony was very professional and kind and was working hard to adhere to my schedule so that I wouldn't be late for my appt. He explained the cost of the service provided (Freon isn't cheap, but necessary!) and the cost of the leak detection when they return is included. I am so pleased that they were able to respond as quickly as they did, especially with the heat we've had lately! I want to preface this review by stating that I was satisfied with the employees who provided the initial estimate and performed the repair. However, my complaints with Bounds Heating & Air stem from their business practices, lack of pricing transparency, and poor communication. Earlier this week, just days after my wife and I welcomed our first child, our AC stopped blowing cold air. While the unit was cooling, the blower motor had failed. Since Bounds had installed the system when the home was built in 2013 (their sticker was still on the unit), I assumed they would be well-suited for the repair. I called on Tuesday, and they sent a technician who diagnosed the issue and quoted me $1,420, plus a $90 diagnostic fee, bringing the total to $1,510. While I had seen similar repairs estimated between $800-$1,800, I needed the repair done quickly and didn't have time to shop around, especially with a newborn in the house. Scheduling Issues The technician was scheduled to arrive between 3-5 PM the next day, as we had a doctor's appointment earlier that afternoon. However, I received a text just before 2 PM stating the tech was on the way--meaning no one would be home. When I called the office, they claimed the appointment had been scheduled for 1 PM and that the tech was actually running late. I still had the original voicemail confirming 3-5 PM, but despite the miscommunication, they did send another tech later in the day. The technician arrived around 4 PM and completed the repair in 40 minutes, which I appreciated. However, after researching later that night, I found the blower motor itself typically costs around $500 at retail, and likely less for a contractor. Lack of Pricing Transparency The next morning, I received an invoice--but it was not itemized. There was no breakdown of parts or labor, no part numbers, no taxes, and no indication of whether the parts used were OEM, aftermarket, or remanufactured. I had never seen an invoice so lacking in detail. When I called to request an itemized invoice, I was told that Bounds does not provide itemized invoices and that it was "not standard practice." After pressing the issue, I was eventually contacted by a manager named John, who explained that Bounds uses a third-party national company to determine pricing and that they would not disclose the cost of parts or labor. I expressed that while I understood a markup was involved (as is common in many industries), a business should still be able to break down what the customer is actually paying for. If the motor cost around $500, that would mean I was charged $920/hour for labor, assuming a one-hour minimum. When I pointed this out, John refused to provide any further breakdown and made it clear the owner would not either. Essentially, the response was: "We're not going to tell you what we paid for anything. Tough luck." Final Thoughts I have never encountered a company so unwilling to provide basic pricing transparency, and I will never use Bounds Heating & Air again. Beware of a company that installs new units and does not ensure that the homes existing electrical breakers are compatible! This company neglected to ensure the amperage of the new AC unit was compatible to the existing breaker, which is their responsibility! When my 20 Amp breaker started getting hot and tripping, they had the nerve to send out a technician , Chris A, who advised that I needed to hire an electrician to fix the problem they created on installation!!! I wouldn't trust this company to do anything at my home. They display negligence, deceit and a total lack of concern for their customers' safety, and they actively trained a new technician in front of me to continue to deceive customers! TERRIBLE Company! Huuuuuuuge Parts Price mark up!!!!! be careful, BOUNDS told me $90 diagnostic fee, came out and told me transformer was bad, relaced it, then said thermostat was bad. Diagnosed in 5 minutes, swapped transformer and left temporary thermostat, the tech wrote down info off my old thermostat so parts could order and swiped my card for $690. I never rec'd email with billing/charges so I called the next morning and they had my incorrect email. Still did not receive so called back in afternoon. Spoke with Mathew was able to email my bill but said they cannot order a matching thermostat. When I told him maybe i could find it online he informed me that I can drop off temp thermostat and BOUNDS was only going to refund part of the cost of the temp thermostat! Here is the crazy part, they charged me $399 for a $99 cheap thermostat! Unethical business! Call someone else. read more

They were very accommodating to our schedule. The first technician treated you like a friend with solid advice. The young men who installed the unit could not have been more polite. The office end of the service went out of there way to make sure we had what we needed. They even called us back after their office hours. read more

Bounds was called to diagnose and FIX an issue causing coils to freeze. Prior to arrival, The entire units coils were cleaned and the drain pipe cleared. When the tech arrived he screwed the drain pipe back into the unit and stated the unit was fixed. (see receipt) Unfortunately, he never placed gauges to test pressure of freon in the system. He stated to my wife that he couldn't do that because "coils were frozen" Yet the receipt clearly shows it was "running" Within one hour of departure the unit was totally frozen. Bounds stated they would send him back out to actually fix the unit. One hour later the secretary called and CANCELLED the appointment stating the yard was "dirty" When we confronted Mr. Bounds about the issue instead of apologizing for the error in not checking the system thoroughly BEFORE the tech left the property, he attacked us for having a working farm with free range animals which is how we make our living. It's important it customer relations to not attack the customer when your staff was negligent on the job. Not only we will obviously never use them again. We will certainly steer ALL of our homestead friends and family to a company that's honest and competent. read more

We totally trust this company for service at our home and our rental units. We recently needed to replace a very old wall unit at the rental unit and Bounds really worked with us to find the exact correct model. The company took great pains to find the exact right fit and the technicians were outstanding in the care they took in the installation. We are also on a service maintenance contract which gives us great peace of mind that everything is kept in good working order before the summer heat hits. With this service agreement our tenants get same or next day service when something needs attention! Cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

Robert Bounds and Bounds Heating and Air are the best! About 6 weeks ago our A/C started tripping our breaker intermittently. We had multiple local A/C companies and an Electrician come out to our house but unfortunately, the problem was not that easy to diagnose. After already spending a considerable amount with no resolution, we were referred to Robert. Robert took my call directly and talked me through the issue and offered some input. He then sent his technician to our home. The Tech was professional, friendly, thorough and even spoke to Robert directly for more input on the issue. After spending over an hour, he found the root cause of the problem that others had missed. Came home today at 5 pm and my AC was not working. I work in construction and was in the heat all day. Luckily I live right by Bounds Heating and Air. I walk over as they were closing the doors for the day and told them what was going on. They called a service tech to come by on his way home. Within 45 min the service tech was at my house and got my AC running. Thanks Bounds for the quick service and helping me enjoy some cool air after a hot day outside. Bounds is the worst hvac company in the business. They were hired as subcontractors to put in the heating and air when I built a new house in 2005. The design they proposed was so terrible I asked them to leave the job. My GC talked me into letting them finish and after a new design review I agreed. I noticed immediately after moving in that the dwell on the thermostat was wrong and they'd left wires dangling here and there but they were so bad I didn't call them back to fix stuff. A year later when we had someone staying in our upstairs for several months we noticed water dripping from the ceiling. Turns out Bounds had installed the second hvac unit in the attic upside down so it couldn't drain and eventually condensate soaked thru the rafters, the attic insulation, and the ceiling. That cost almost $1000 to fix. They suck! Don't EVER use Bounds for anything. read more
