This place looked and started off promising. The bourbon and whiskey selection was amazing and the knowledge of these by the bartenders were on point. To start, we tried the jalapeño hush puppies which were flavorful and delicious. I could've easily had a few of those orders. I tried the mahi mahi for my dinner. I love fish and it was their special. Upon being a few bites in, I saw the fish was raw/uncooked. It was so noticeable, the gentleman next to me also was like um that doesn't look right. I told the bartender and his response was oh it's not cooked to your level. I'm sorry - this is not a meat where you pick how well you want it done. It's also not sushi grade fish which would be okay raw. This is fish that should be cooked all the way thru or else you're going to get the worst kind of sick (which I did after only a couple bites). He took it back and the kitchen just re cooked the same pieces which was a complete turn off. Like you re cooked raw fish that has already touched all my food cuz I cut it up to make sure it was raw all around. Yah, NOT ACCEPTABLE. If you come here, maybe just drink. But even then, be wary as more attention is given to male customers. Guess women aren't suppose to be bourbon whiskey drinkers contrary to the shirt they sell. Stopped in for an early dinner when the place opened at 4:30. First ones there but by 5:15, the place was slammed. Massive spirits menu, we came for the bourbon and we're not disappointed. I wanted to try some new ones and the best part - the bartenders didn't steer us to super high end older bourbons, just some very good ones that were very reasonable. We rolled into town late at night, most places were closed so we hit the downtown area. This place had good reviews on yelp and so we gave it a try. My dad is a huge bourbon fan and this place did not disappoint. Nothing like a good old fashion after flying coast to coast. The food was great and they made sure that my allergies were taken seriously by the staff. I did not want to take part in any alcohol and they made me a mock shirley temple which was great. The downtown vibe was so magical and welcoming with the lights and looking up to see the capitol all lit up. read more

The space isn't big at all, cozy comfy atmosphere. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The bartender was very knowledgeable and very helpful. The first time I cAme to Bourbon a few years ago, I was blown away. It was so nice to have such high quality food with great ambiance in Columbia. I also remembered it as having a great burger. Saturday night we went back for some late night sustenance after attending a Christmas party and I wAs stoked to try that delicious burger again. Unfortunately, something had changed. The burger was a flavorless little densely packed puck that tasted like one of those frozen Bubba burgers from the grocery store, except not as good. Really a let down. Also the ambiance wasn't quite like I remember. It was a little bright in there. On a side note, the boudin balls are still fantastic! Hell I wish the burger patty was made of boudin. Hopefully we just caught them on an off night, or maybe the late night kitchen pumps out different cuisine than earlier in the evening. read more

My wife & I had sat at the bar for drinks on the bar side of the restaurant while we waited for a table. The drink I had was a gin concoction which was really good. Our table was ready and so we walked over the other side to get our table. All downhill from there. My wife is black. I am white. Either this restaurant is racist and/or the waitress that was serving the white people at our same table (long tabletop that could serve multiple parties) is racist. The waitress is definitely because we sat there for at least 10-15 minutes b4 a black waitress came by and asked if we have been served yet. We told her no and so she took care of us. A black group was seated next to us at the same table and the same thing happened to them by the same waitress. The manager walked by our table and did nothing. The waitress ignored our table walking by multiple times, so our waitress had to wait on them too. A white group was seated at a separate table and all of the sudden the waitress decided to take a table. This appeared to be encouraged by management and our black waitress didn't seem to be surprised. We took care of her but we WILL NEVER BE BACK. Pork chop was dry, boudin balls were just okay, collard greens really good, salmon was pretty good, my gin drink was excellent. Food & drinks not good enough for us to come back. If you are white, then you will probably like it. read more

We have been to Bourbon previously and greatly enjoyed the service, drinks, and food, but our experience Friday night was disappointing. The server clearly was unfamiliar with the menu delivering the wrong wine and not understanding the name of bourbons on the website. The staff person was unprofessional, not properly trained, and should not have been on the floor. read more

Very disappointed. Came to enjoy a place I heard had good bourbon and good food. Had three drinks not even whiskey and spend over 120 each with three other co workers, waited 40 minutes for the waitress to come back to deny us from taking a shot or sample of their bourbon. Manager wasn't pleasant at all and didn't seem understanding. I would like to give this place a higher rating. The drinks and atmosphere were good but our waiter was not very welcoming. We would've stayed longer but he never came around to check on us for more drinks, service etc. ultimately the manager Debby/Debra came by and brought us our checks. I've always passed Bourbon walking down main street and never gave it a try... but after hearing how good the burger was from Kelsay, I had to give it a go. I went for happy hour with my brother and his girlfriend for their $10 special: burger, beer and shot of bulleit bourbon (hell of a deal right!!). So of course you can customize a few things that up the price a bit... adding cheese, certain beers may cost an extra $1, etc, but in the grand scheme you get all that for about $13. The burger is delicious! I added pimento cheese, and I couldn't have been happier. I'm normally a sauce guy, but the burger was so flavorful I think the only thing I added was some mayo! I can't wait to get back to try their other food, because if the burger is any indicator... it's all top notch! read more

But slightly disappointed they used regular bar ice instead of a single craft cube. The burger was ok, but seemed rushed out in the preparation. Loved this place! We had the Pork Mac & Cheese, really great flavor! Then the gumbo. Wasn't a huge fan of the duck meat, it was drier than what I expected but everything was still good. I have just had an exceptional food experience at Bourbon. The Biscuit of Champions embraces South Carolina heritage and is just to die for. Biscuits have to be done right, and Frank Bradley sure has outdone himself on this one. It's crispy around the edge, fluffy and moist in the center, and its accouterments elevate this beautiful and delectable dish to a whole new dimension. The fried chicken breast is perfectly seasoned, moist, and crisp. The fried egg adds a soft and creamy texture. The andouille sausage gravy is balanced and unbroken, the pimento cheese is sharp and delicious (although I would like a little extra dollop next time), the bacon embellishes that crunchy, smoky layer and the green onions add a fresh element to finish it off. The vibe is low key, jazzy, and welcoming. Give this a go next time you find yourself in the capital of South Carolina. read more
