After my previous stylist, the guy who only cuts short hair for girls, retired, I needed a new barber. I tried a few in the neighborhood before settling on this shop, and I really like it! It's pretty small, just 2 seats, with one seat inside to wait and usually a stool outside for a second person in line. They're pretty fast (~15min) so the line moves quickly. I was worried about going to a barbershop as a girl but if anyone else is reading this with the same worry, there's no need -- they are really friendly and welcoming. They always remember my preferences and do a nice clean job. I moved a bit further away since I first started going here, but I still always come back. read more

This is a small place - what could actually be known as a "hole in the wall". But in this barbershop, you'll find 2 or 3 barbers (there's only room for 2 so they cycle) who really care about you and your hair. Very nice people who do a great job. read more

Boutique Barber Shop is truly the best shop on the UWS. Located at W 72nd St between Broadway and West End, this cozy two-seater has been my barbershop for eight years. I tried several others in my neighborhood early on but none could compare to Boutique. Alex (the owner) and Gabriel (my barber) are both friendly and welcoming, and always take the time to make sure I'm happy with my haircut. Gabriel has a great memory and always remembers my cut, and even picks up where our last conversation left off! Cuts are efficient, but never rushed, and the emphasis has always been on delivering a quality cut (not getting me out the door). Excellent service for a very reasonable $30/cut. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit... tell them the Mad Scientist sent you! read more

Extremely disappointed with my haircut. It was rushed for absolutely no reason and the results showed it - my hair is extremely uneven and looks awful. There are spots all over my hair which are shorter than other areas in a way it is not supposed to, the guy who cut me clearly never cut anyone before it must have been his first week or so as a barber. The guys were friendly so it's unfortunate to leave dissatisfied with the haircut but honestly, it's a crime to charge $44 for a beard trim and hair cut and to walk away needing to go to another barber to fix it. read more

Best barbershop in the city. I was lucky to stumble on to this gem after exhausting overpriced option after overpriced option in midtown. This place is what a barbershop should be, great people and quality cuts at an exceedingly reasonable price of $20. Most importantly, after even your first visit the owner remembers how you like your cut and is able to replicate time after time even if you are an infrequent customer. This is my new go-to spot! They open at 8:30am and are located on 72nd Street, up the block from the 1, 2 & 3; which is perfect when I "need" a fresh haircut or shave before heading to the office. I've had my hair cut by Alex & Ari, and was satisfied with both. The space is really small; however, Ari did a great job making it comfortable for customers.The LCD screens in the mirrors are a nice touch. The last time I was there; Ari was teaching his son Gabriel how to cut hair. It always feels good patronizing family-owned businesses. I actually just had a "eureka moment"...... Don't judge this place by its looks...unless you're drawn to hole in the wall barber shops. Not sure how well this place would do if you're looking for some sort of posh style, but for basic/classic men's haircuts, they do a solid job. On top of that, they really move through their customers- so don't get discouraged if there's a line outside the door. In addition, the lack of time they spend per haircut is not indicative of their quality. I've never spent more than 15 min in the chair but never have been able to complain at all about the haircut. And for $19, you'd be hard pressed to beat the value. read more

Gabriel and his father Alex are amazing at their craft! It's been really difficult for me to find a barber I trust but every time I walk out of their shop I feel and look fantastic. Most guys would say it takes a few days after a haircut for you to look yourself, I thought the same until I found this barber shop. Genuinely couldn't be more happy when I walked in for my second time and Gabriel remembered, without me prompting, the style I wanted my hair cut, the number buzzer for the sides, and how I look my bread trimmed. It's difficult experience to replicate and impossible to fake that level of attention to detail that clearly shows care for how the customer wants to look. If that wasn't enough they are extremely affordable and half of what I used to pay in FiDi at more than double the quality. After being loyal to a barber who lost her business I couldn't be more grateful that I stumbled upon Alex, Gabriel and Boutique Barber Shop on my walk home from dinner. I took a chance and they did not disappoint. What I also admire about this place is their flexible hours. Open 7 days a week 8:30 on Weekdays and 9:30 on weekends. Yes, this barber shop is roughly the size of your closet. Yes, there are only two seats and you'll have to wait outside until it's your turn. Don't let that put you off. It is one of the few places in New York where you can walk in, get the cut you ask for and not pay a ton of money (basic mens cut goes for around $20.) This is a great place at a price you might think is too good to be true. But it is true- a quality haircut for $19 in the Upper West Side of NYC. I was in Manhattan and in need of an overdue haircut before embarking on a weeklong business trip. After checking Yelp for a nearby barber and reading the reviews, I walked into the shop 20 minutes before they closed, without an appointment, on a Saturday. I was greeted both pleasantly and professionally. It's a small shop (5x10 I'm guessing) with two chairs and a counter. The waiting seating area (one chair) is outside on the sidewalk under the barber pole. How cool is that! Today the shop was manned by two guys (Alex and Arturo) both with personality and barbering skills. After some initial questions as to how I like my haircut, Alex proceeded to give me a perfect haircut within 20 minutes at a price you can't beat! read more

Inexperienced barber, low quality cut. Asked him to go short, but keep the top a little longer. Very basic haircut but seemed unsure of himself. Ended up with a buzz cut essentially since he couldn't remedy a couple mistakes. I would have done better with a clipper in my shower. Haircut was $26 because I used a credit card... pretty ridiculous fee even if I actually got a good haircut. The guy definitely did not deserve a $6 tip. read more

Yeah, the space is tiny, but the great cuts and friendly atmosphere makes up for the tiny spot. I went in one day and described what I wanted, even showed a picture, and the rest is history. They work with you to get the kind of cut you want, and make sure you leave happy. Alex the owner is great - he's usually your first barber if you're new to the place, as a friendly warm introduction. Any guy you get there knows what he's doing, and trust me - each one of them have cut my hair, and I've never had any complaints or issues - just came out lookin' fresh. They remember you too - big importance and factor nowadays when it comes to building that client relationship. They remember past conversations, like trips you were planning on going, and next time around ask you how that trip went. Friendly conversation like how's work, the kids, etc. A great mom and pop shop energy to it. Highly recommend it! Weekdays after work & Weekends are busy, so plan accordingly. read more

~ 1 year ago, my UWS supercuts closed down.......it was tragic! Haha...... Anyways, I started looking for somewhere else and after reading some Yelp reviews..... LOVE this place! The guys who work here are great to talk to, very personable, very professional, and good. It is nice to have the little TV in front of you as well. They work very efficiently, and only costs $16! If you want they will even do a straight razor shave of the back of your neck for no extra! It is pretty popular so sometimes there is a little bit of a wait, but they move pretty quickly. I have gotten three haircuts here. It is fast. it is cheap. It is a crap shoot on the quality. Each time it was OK, but every time there was something wrong. My first time the guy got the side burns uneven, but not too bad. the second cut was ok. not bad, not great ~ but quick. The last time the top was asymmetric to an unacceptable degree and the side burns were WAY wrong. if you are in hurry and want to spend about 20 bucks, this is an acceptable spot. there are two guys cutting hair, they are both roughly the same in terms of their attention to detail. there is a barber shop on w81st that is about the same quality and same price. read more

This place is golden. Don't let the two chair setup fool you, the guys working here are legit. I had been experimenting with a couple different styles over the past year and with my new job I needed something a bit more conservative. However, I didn't want anything boring and after explaining my predicament, Ari helped me find a style that was just right. These guys are nice but they don't get it right. I'm Hispanic mixed with curly hair and it was a nightmare trying to help them cut my hair properly. They should update their bio to only catering to "certain" hair types. My last visit (and it will be my last) I showed the guy what I wanted, he looked at it for 2 seconds and nodded. I asked again and he just nodded and went to cutting. Needless to say, it was not what my photo portrayed at all. I'm really upset that I spent like $25 for nothing but a trim. Going to find someone else who will be able to fix what he did and do some thing better. Super disappointed. If you're not white, stay away. read more
