This is the second time I have used Joe, this time for a small apartment move within the same building. I found Joe through one of those "man with a van" type ads on craigslist after buying a very large dresser and needing to get it from Medford to Somerville. The prospect of hitting up U-Haul just for this wasn't terribly appealing, so I checked in for a price quote. He emailed back right away (this was around 10PM) and was able to offer me a flat rate of $40 to pick up the next afternoon. Perfect. Even better, he was able to pay the seller when he picked up the dresser; I just reimbursed him when he got to my place. I helped him carry the dresser into my apartment (it was lighter than I thought, though still awfully big), and he kindly provided me a pair of gloves to protect my delicate hands and made sure I went back inside to put on a coat so I wouldn't catch my death of cold. Used Joe yesterday to fetch a desk purchased off CL -- Joe picked up the desk, paid the seller, and carried it into my apartment - makes buying off CL so much more pleasant! Haven't written a Yelp review in years but the excellence of Joe's service prompted me to chime in here. Made the delivery happen within 6 hours of calling him and everything was super easy by text message and that he always answered his phone. We were particularly impressed with how carefully he handled the piece of furniture - was extremely cautious and respectful about our bannisters, walls, and other furniture. Joseph is awesome! He is a super careful professional mover, not just a dude with a truck. I found a cabinet on Craigslist and needed to find someone who could pick it up for me the next day. There aren't many movers who are available at the last minute for small jobs, but Joseph miraculously came through for us. The across-the-board 5-star reviews are no joke, people. Boutique Moves earned them. I found Joe/Boutique Moves through a Craig's List post, so I was kind of expecting a sketchy operation, but Boutique Moves is anything but. I needed to transport a large dining table I was buying on CL, and initially planned to rent a truck or van and beg a friend to help. Then I saw Boutique Moves' CL ad. I called, Joe answered immediately, he got back to me with an estimate right away, he contacted the seller to get details and arrange pick-up time, he even fronted the cash and paid the seller for me, and he kept me apprised with regular text updates (en route to seller, arriving at seller, leaving seller with my table, etc.). AND, he charged me less than a 2-hour van rental would have been! He's just one guy so I had to help him carry the table from his truck into my apartment, but I'll just chalk that up to a free upper-body workout. Joe is fantastic! I had him help me move all of my items out of my apartment's storage lockers back up to my apartment after I was gone for the summer. When I moved everything down there in the spring, it took me at least 4 hours. He completed the job in less than an hour! Joe provides an excellent service to the city of Boston. I found him on Craigslist when I was stressing about how to get a futon from one end of Allston to the other. I called Joe at BoutiqueMoves and got SAME DAY SERVICE. Seriously, I called him at 3pm and had my futon by 7pm. He was an extremely good communicator, which became important when we were working together to get my futon upstairs. He was very patient with me despite my lack of brawn and spatial reasoning and overall was a pleasure to work with. Joseph of Boutique Moves just delivered my new home bar!! Not and easy task considering how large and heavy it is. Fast, friendly and excellent service which can be hard to find! Although it is not the cheapest moving option out there, it is well worth the cost, and is very reasonable. Joe drove down the Hingham, Ma and fronted the cash for our Craigslist pick up (the bar in the picture) then delivered it to our door in somerville and even helped us assemble it. The total cost of the service was $125, and he was so excellent we gave him a tip. I don't think I'll ever rent a Uhaul again! read more

I found Joe on Craigslist. He quoted me a reasonable price and I gave it a try. He started loading my stuffs at 12:45 which was 15 mins before we timed up at 1:00 PM. I had 42" TV and the box was broken. He offered to wrap it up and handle it with care and expertise. He is super nice and has excellent communication. I am not a person who reviews businesses much, but Joe's service deserves a five star review and I would feel guilty if I didn't post this and share our experience with those looking for similar experiences. Joe was absolutely fantastic. I found his advertisement randomly on craigslist, and his price was the most reasonable among the competition. We had to reschedule due to our time conflict and he was accommodating and responded quickly. Because of our change in plan (longer distance with the new plan), Joe communicated that the price would be slightly higher than what he initially asked. I appreciated his clarity in communicating this upfront, but even with the raise in price it was very reasonable. He met with my husband at Costco, helped carry and deliver two large boxes of sofa, carried them upstairs with the stairs, and helped carefully unscrew the door stop to allow for wider entrance. He was very warm, friendly, careful, detail oriented, and a pleasure to work with. BoutiqueMoves and Joseph are the best! We bought a big glass table and chairs on Craigslist and had to have them moved (the glass for the table is 52" and very heavy). I emailed Joseph at 10am and the table was in my kitchen by 5:00pm (from Sudbury to Belmont). He was incredibly courteous and even called the Craigslist seller for me to get the measurements to make sure the table would fit in his truck. When he brought the table in, he measured the glass to make sure it was exactly centered on the base. I would never have expected that level of attention to detail, but Joseph is truly a professional and takes pride in his work. His prices are very fair (actually on the low end, especially for the high quality) and he is well worth the money. Joe is super friendly, communicated wonderfully, and very patient - my boyfriend and I were basically pulling our hair out after two weeks of moving with the help of friends trucks, my little car, and literally *carrying* our stuff down the street to our new place. But we just had zero way to get a couch. I saw one I loved on craigslist, despaired of ever being able to get it, then on a whim shot him an email. He got back to me immediately, was really flexible with the scheduling (he had to push it back an hour but didn't mind waiting a few hours for me to coordinate the pickup time with the seller). He got the couch *for* us, paid the seller, and then helped us get it into our place. His rates were really reasonable (this whole thing cost us $50 and saved us a lot of hassle) and I'd definitely call him again. Be sure to tip your moving guy! read more

I've got to add my 5-star rating to the accolades for Boutique Moves. We had an unusual request for Joseph, asking him to come out to the Metrowest suburbs between I-95 and I-495 and move a single large, heavy (maybe 300 lbs), but delicate museum-quality piece of fine furniture that we bought from a collector who was downsizing, and bringing it to our house 2 towns away. Joseph was in touch before heading out and when he couldn't reach me he even took the initiative and looked up the number for the seller and contacted them to ensure they'd be there for the pickup. He was on time despite evening rush hour. We met him there and my husband (who is reasonably fit but neither handy nor gifted in spatial relations) helped him with the move, but worked directly under Joseph's supervision and guidance. Joseph gave him a simple overview of the plan for lifting and moving the piece, and while in progress gave very simple, clear, effective, and thoughtful instruction. It was like having a professional moving professor or coach to ensure that you did it the right way without getting hurt or dropping or damaging anything. He really ought to be teaching a course for other movers. He took the time to first move the furniture away from a low-hanging crystal chandelier (he's very tall and didn't want to bump the chandelier) and then wrap the furniture in movers' quilts secured with movers' cling wrap. He then wore latex gloves and had a spare pair for my husband, as these help with gripping the cling wrap-covered furniture. He brought a furniture dolly and had movers' quilts lining his pickup truck bed as well. If you hire Boutique Moves, just realize that if you are moving something very large or heavy then you will need to supply an able-bodied and reasonably strong person to help, since Joseph is a "one man with a pickup truck" operation but that description does not do him justice as he is leagues above competitor small movers in terms of quality and reliability and his pricing is extremely reasonable. I will gladly use Boutique Moves again when needed and will recommend highly. For context when considering this review, I will note that we have had several moving experiences of all sorts, local, regional, and international overseas and have used movers all along the range from ourselves (back in the young and broke days) to other mini-movers on Craigslist to regional movers and international movers. Some have been extremely good experiences and some have left us with broken furniture and property damage. From these experiences we would recommend Gentle Giant Movers if you're doing a big household move locally or regionally, and Nippon Express if you're moving to Japan, and for anything from picking up an item at Ikea to doing a local apartment move (where you help with some of the lifting), you will not find better quality than Joseph of Boutique Moves. It's great to find someone in any industry who is really a professional, with expertise and the ability to think outside the box, as well as reliability and fair prices. I found BoutiqueMoves on craigslist and needed Joe's help in moving an Ikea bed from Arlington to Brookline. Joe was extremely conscientious, industrious, and careful about taking care of the bed. Even though we had agreed that he wouldn't take the disassembled bed up our stairs to the third floor (my husband had a friend to help him), he quickly saw that my husband had a sore back, and offered to take the biggest piece upstairs with our friend - for free. Joe has helped me over the years both personally and for work. I have recommended him to clients who were more then thrilled. Joe is as professional as it gets. I oringinally connected him off Craigslist and I was at first skeptical as one could be. I had an out of the way request and sent several inquires initially but Joe's response sealed the deal. Very detail orientated which is what you want to avoid potential problems . I can assure you Joe is as good as it can get and better. While I have yet to experience this, I do feel that if you had a task which was just not realistic, he would let you know and offer what is doable or suggestions. That is very important. I have met with Joe for a wide variety of random or seemingly impossible requests and some, more then lesss desirable requests and have had nothing but beyond stellar experiences. I found boutique moves on craigslist. I was new to the area and didnt have a car or furniture so I decided to take a gamble with Boutique Moves. While we did have some issues with scheduling (I had asked if he could come at 6:30pm and he originally said yes, but then later said he doesnt typically do deliveries during rush hour. Both seller and I (the buyer) were inconvenienced by this change of tune) but when we actually got down to moving the dresser he was very careful with my furniture and even fixed a broken railing. He is just one guy though, so if you plan on using him be aware that he will ask the seller to help him get it into the truck if the furniture is too big to move himself (which, most likely it will be.) When he gets to your end, he'll need your help to move big furniture into your house. I only say this as a caveat that you may have to throw in some extra dollars to get the seller to help move the furniture out. read more
