I was surprised to see a Loopy! I grew up with a lot of these old consoles as a military brat/kid in Japan and I was hit with so many fond memories playing games with friends. I'm still on the hunt for a Nintendo Disk System but at least I found one of the ゲゲゲの鬼太郎 games! Some prices were a but ridiculous IMO but others seemed like a great deal. A few days ago, my Son and I were hanging out in Beaverton, and he suggested that we pay a visit to the Uwijimaya Japanese grocery store, which has a small-ish Kinokuniya Bookstore situated within the back corner. After escaping the tractor beam of the grocery store's extensive Saki selection, we make our way over to the bookstore. We found the usual contained within: manga, magazines, Totoro, and of course notebooks, lots of pens, and various other unique office supplies. The stationary section is mostly contained in the last 3 rows of which I wandered repeatedly. My Son finally told me that time was up, and so I reluctantly checked out within the store with just a cool campus spiral notebook and a cheap olive-inked ballpoint. I could have gone for more, and I will during a future visit.

But what I've grown to love best about them is their outright disdain for the lowest form of "hobbyist": The drone bro. Call it a "multicopter" all you'd like, pal, but your cheap piece of plastic trash is, at best, flying camera gear and, at worst, a suburban air rights debate just waiting to be solved in the most hostile way possible. I'm pleased that Hillsboro Hobby has never catered to these plugs, and I wish them continued success in selling the exact type of anti-air countermeasures that make these guys think twice about flying them over residential areas.

Pick a Brick was interesting for you get a box and fill up with Lego pieces to create your own piece of work. Noticed an adult snapping on Lego piece. He gave a great tip. He took all the Lego piece and created item before he disassembled the pieces and put it in the box for purchase. Staff friendly and helpful with any questions. Family fun time here.

They were selling some zygard collection boxes at retail and we snatched those up! Also 6 packs at retail also!? Sure. There were some things that were market but what do expect? They didn't have shelves of sealed Costco product so I was happy and willing to spend my money here. Happy we did, ripped some great packs from here. Small collection of loose bulk but a large arrange of things. Day 1 was busy, lots of staff, lots of customers; day 2, no staff, back log of customers, but the staff that was there was hustling. I want to give a big shout to this shop before it decamps for Beaverton…read more Rune & Board came into Hillsboro at a time when Hillsboro retail didn't cater to anyone under the age of, oh, 55 and certainly didn't address the interests of broad swaths of the city's population. R&B made it clear that not only were there a ton of gamers in the area whose needs weren't being addressed whatsoever, but that a knowledgeable staff and a stable space were all that was needed to give that community a home. Also, to be so inclusive of women that my longtime gamer buddy's wife was stunned when she walked in and was not only one of several women in the building, but the only one not actively buying or playing... that's how you start to need double the space. I'll admit, I don't like seeing this place go and I'm not a fan of the trend I'm seeing. We lost the town's only bookstore to Beaverton. Retro Game Store's gaming club and Gongali also moved from west of 185th to Beaverton. If Hillsboro and Forest Grove can't find the space for businesses like these--the ones that actually build communities, create third spaces, and encourage people here to join in and become part of something--they're going to keep losing both business and interest to Beaverton, Portland, and other places that are generally more encouraging. Oh, I don't go inside, I wait in the car scrolling my socials and taking selfies and then ooh and ah over his purchases while he explains refractors and grading and colors and bits of bats or jerseys. I'm sure he says other stuff...The Sportsroom has had a few different owners and the latest has been there for over a year. After taking a long break between owners, we're back to visiting about every week. It is nice to see someone who seems to enjoy what they're doing who genuinely wants to make visits to the Sportsroom a positive experience.

One of the older employees wrote numbers on sticky notes and placed them on my cards. He offered me $600 for a stack worth around $1,000, so I politely declined. Immediately after, he aggressively ripped the sticky notes off my cards, walked away, and completely ignored me. He didn't say another word or even look at me. On my way out, I still said "thanks," but got no response. It's sad to see people like this representing the hobby. If you're looking to trade cards or buy boxes, I'd recommend going somewhere else. Hoody's, 1 Stop, and Orb all have much better customer service than this place. This business does not deserve your cards or your money.
