She doesn't reach the 4 feet height requirement so she couldn't do the gravity ropes or laser tag, but we came for bowling anyways. Since we got there shortly after 11am, the line wasn't too long and we got a bowling lane. Bowling shoes are $5, so even with the promo, you still are paying $41 for 2 people. Bowling. Bowling is by the hour NOT game, which I find annoying. They WILL shut down your lane in the middle of a game, and you'll never know who was going to win if you're playing against your friends Or even if you're going for a personal best. UGH, this is probably my biggest complaint. once your hour is done, You can put your name on a waitlist for another lane if you are doing the all you can play. This was bad timing for us because I just ordered lunch, so the waitress had to move our stuff to one of the back tables and deliver our food there. Food. Waitstaff is friendly and helpful. They will even get you water to your table, no charge. This time I ordered the cheese pizza kids meal ($7) and boneless chicken wings ($12) for lunch. I like that their kids' meals are reasonably priced, but then they make us order food too... hm. lol Food was decent, minus the brussel sprouts side which was an extra $2 and just boiled, not fried & crispy like what I was expecting. Next time, maybe just ask for the fruit (orange slices) as a side? Arcade. The promo included a $10 arcade card per person which was 50 credits. Each game is about 7.5 to 10 credits. I thought the Wicked Tuna game gave us the most tickets (40ish) with the least amount of skill & luck. With two $10 cards, we came out with 200 tickets and got a squishy ball and candy. We weren't going for tickets though so I'm sure we could have gotten a little more if we tried and didn't play Mario Kart, but that was her fav game haha. At the redemption center, the attendant can easily combine cards and also add funds back to your card if you hit one of those machines that didn't work. Overall, we spent $30 (with tip) on lunch and $40 on play, so $70 for a mommy daughter play date on a school day off and stayed for about 3-4 hours. Not terrible. In this economy though, it's getting tougher to justify these entertainment visits as it quickly adds up! when really, my kid just wants to play video games .

Simple in theory, brilliant in execution, and one that no other venue has successfully replicated since. The space was gorgeous. The ample dining space, dedicated private rooms, and gourmet bowling alleys across the place was a sight to behold. This experience cost a pretty penny, which is partially what doomed them in the first place. As a brunch destination, it was a hot mess, largely due to their staff which had a hard time to keep up with the demand. The waits without reservations were brutal and even ones that arrived with reservations would still have to wait if the seating arrangements weren't done properly. The food itself was solid, featuring premium items like prime rib and mean herb roasted chicken, along with smoked salmon, shrimp cocktails, and even a dessert fondue. Throw in a few pasta + pasta dishes for the kids, along with an omelette station. At $35, this was a good value. The bowling experience was always their best asset. Lane reservations were a cinch, and the bowling balls were always quality. The area was well maintained and had a decent amount of seating for groups. Shoes and socks were always included in the $20 per person/per hour deal, which for River Oaks standards is on par price wise. While they live on in other cities, I do think Pinstripes was onto something in Houston. While it may not have fully materialized into what they envisioned, it did lay enough ground work to see the possibility was there. Here's hoping they find another home in H-Town in the near future.

The technology is really cool, as there are graphics to show how to hit all the balls and replays, and classic graphics of the old days still make their appearance :P The pins are attached to strings, so resetting for each turn is faster. The food selection was better than expected but still just okay-- the pretzel was my favorite: soft, served warm, but not much taste beside straight up salt crystals (but it did come with sharp mustard on the side). The highlight is definitely the gameplay over the food, but they are nice snacks in the meantime. Really liked having hand sanitizer at the table too! Balls and tables and shared with your neighboring lane, and we definitely needed a bigger table just for a few dishes and drinks. The bowling shoes felt nice and didn't look super worn out like they usually do. The skates are definitely old and several pairs are missing stoppers. I did see the attendant cleaning the skates so that was impressive. We decided on Funplex because it was the only place that was available for open skate. Other rinks have limited hours or lessons during the week.

But instead, they told me the flight will consist of five 5 oz cups.... WHOA. So I grabbed the first two and had to come back for the rest after I finished. Every single one was delicious, but I really liked the mango habanero and the one with the coconut. Now, the games... I rarely come to a barcade that has TWO Guitar Hero setups. The downside was that, in the lunch rush, it took 30-40 minutes for that one pizza to come out, though you could tell they were individually making each item in the big pizza oven. If you want drinks, you separately order those at the front, near where you check in, which is a little odd to have two separate food/drink ordering spots. When we walked in, we paid for a wristband, which gave "free" access to all of the arcade games, except for the claw machines, which required you to buy an extra card.
