On August 12, 2022, my wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary at Bowleys on the Bay. Although the wait to be seated was a bit longer than we were told, we were satisfied with the service. Our waitress, Lindsay, was friendly. She got my wife's order wrong, but was willing to fix this. Because it was late, we declined. When we received the bill, I was shocked at the cost of $74+ for just the two of us. After examining the bill, I saw that a 20% gratuity had been added. This annoyed me. Although my wife's order had been incorrect, I was already prepared to pay a 20% gratuity, which is something that I normally do. However, the customer, not the establishment, determines how much the tip should be, especially for a small party of two! We decided to pay the 20% despite my annoyance. When our waitress returned with the check to be signed, we noticed that there was a place for an additional tip with the recommended percentage range from 15 - 25%. The percentage was based on the original cost of the meal PLUS the already added 20%!!! These folks expected an additional tip on a bill that already included a tip. They want you to tip on the tip!!! WHAT bs is this?!? I have never written a review on Yelp before, but this is utter nonsense. Can you imagine how much money they are making in tips from folks, especially in large parties, who don't review the bill before signing? Usually I would not have noticed that the tip had already been included and would have added another 20%. Also, when I'm part of a large party in an establishment that charges an included gratuity, I always add an additional tip, especially if the service is good. However, I do think that it is a scam to include a 20% gratuity on a party of two and THEN expect an additional tip on the first tip!!! Bowleys, if this is your practice, you need to do better! Beachfront casual complete with real sand and palm trees outside, bar made from a partial canoe inside, and classy but cute white wicker decor. They must have read the reviews about the food being poor because it seems they tweaked everything including the crab cake which is now a crispy, classic take without any weird toppings. My wife and I have to the new indoor seating dining room several times of the last three weeks. Bowley's on the Bay has been following all of the Covid protocols, including taking temperatures when you enter. This is one of the few restaurants that we have visited during Covid. We have been here for brunch, lunch, and dinner. We have not been disappointed once. The special rockfish with lump crab over sweet potato hash is incredible. The crab benedict has a new twist, they use a crisp potato cake instead of an English muffin. Nice change up. One of the new specials is a charcuterie board, it was huge and really good. The tuna wrap had large chunks of perfectly cooked tuna. We have experienced nothing but outstanding service. Sophia and K are very professional and friendly. The food and drinks were solid. Not bad and not good. The place (decor) was good. It was a rainy Saturday night so we couldn't sit outside on the bay. But it was odd that they closed the kitchen at 9:00. The server said because it was raining and slow (there were a good amount of people eating inside), they were closing the kitchen. This is not the first time we ate here. So today, I'm celebrating my bday & told my husband to choose the restaurant. So we came in here. Food is great, ambiance is perfect but the service is not good. Waitress is not attentive to your need. After they got your order & food is delivered not a single one ask if there's anything we need. Have to ask for ketchup for the fries. I even said it's my bday, I don't care about the free dessert coz I can pay for that. Went to Bowleys on the Bay for Easter Brunch with family members. From the moment we walked in everything was exceptional. We were seated in the bar area at one of the many high tops. Shrimp salad sandwich was very small , literally 5 shrimp .on a mushy roll ., no seasoning but garlic . Who puts garlic in shrimp salad . Go back to the old recipe ! Also the crab corn chowder had a lot of jalapeños and very little crab or corn . Also restaurant should have a do not leave children UNATTENDED in water POLICY ! I am saddened to say this, but would advise families with children to steer clear. The actions of the GM, Wayne, ruined our experience this evening. We have thoroughly enjoyed all of our previous experiences at Bowleys on the Bay. Staff, food, and atmosphere are all great. Our kids really like going there to be able to play in the water, and we come because it's historically been kid-friendly and all other aspects meet or exceed expectations. During our most recent trip, however, Wayne stopped every parent to scold their children for playing. Oddly enough, he was eating with his family and friends and not even working. No customer complained but he felt the need to walk to every table on the beach with kids. We have likely all seen situations where kids are running rampant without oversight and disrupting other patrons' experiences; however, that was not at all the case in this situation. For example, Wayne approached us because our kids ran around our own table (which was immediately next to the water) one time. We and several other families left because of his behavior. The local staff was all very apologetic and made accommodations for his behavior. I hope that senior leadership will take note and drive a change in Wayne's activities. read more

Service was professional and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was comfortable-classy... upscale but still welcoming and cozy. However, I was disappointed in the crab cake. Especially when many of the other restaurants in the area have much better crab cakes. All of the other food we had was very good. The turkey sandwhich was the best ever! And then we went outside to skip rocks with the children, as children do, and we were also being stared at. We felt unwelcomed as we believe if we were white people, we would not have been shown this behavior. My new favorite restaurant, how lucky to move into the area and have such a great restaurant 15 minutes from my home... Not only do they have an amazing chef but the view is breathtaking and the staff is super fabulous... If I could I'd eat there five nights a week I would but I will just try to keep it to at least two nights a week, I look forward to reading their daily specials on Facebook that looks amazing and when I actually order them they taste as good as they look in the pictures, I highly recommend this restaurant! First time visiting here. The atmosphere and view was great . First the Appetizer , fried Brussel sprouts were delicious. Fried green tomatoes were a bit different, black bean salsa but good . Baja chicken wrap was delicious, sweet potato fries also delicious. The shrimp salad wrap was very bland definitely needed some old bay . Ordered coffee at the end of lunch it came out steaming hot and old as dirt. The waitress immediately took it away and brewed a fresh pot. They have live music on the beach and couches with fire pits in the middle. If you go, get Shari as your waitress. I'd describe it better but the lifeless, limp consistency threw me for a loop. I ordered iced tea, which I can only assume was brewed sometime at the beginning of the week, about five days or so ago. We all ordered and I'll only discuss my shrimp salad sandwich-it really wasn't a salad-large shrimp dragged through a salad dressing wash, on a potato bun. I finally gave up trying to eat it like a sandwich because the shrimp kept falling out. It was messy and flavorless. The fries were greasy and limp. It is possible that the last time the oil was changed was sometime during the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I could go on, but you get the idea. The ambiance was extremely nice. The decor was clearly an attempt to compensate for the bad food. It is a marina, so I assume that having a captive audience helps their bottom line. I don't know if there was a manager on duty or not, but if there was, he/she clearly wasn't looking. I would sternly recommend steering clear from this place. It's not worth the drive and certainly, it's not worth the price. I am from out of town, only here to visit family so I know I'll never return. My score is more like a 2 1/2; in general lackluster. Service was fair to poor with Madison doing her best to avoid making eye contact with our table. With not very many tables occupied, our order was very slow to come out taking what was probably 40 minutes. Quality of the food was passable. Taste of my shrimp salad sandwich was good but the bun way too small and shrimp falling off. C'mon guys, it can't cost that much more for a bun a little larger in diameter. When we went into restaurant for breakfast at 8:57 am, (breakfast begins at 9) the bearded guy in the white shirt who I assumed was the manager copped an attitude, abruptly telling us that we were early and then turned to the hostess saying "that's why we don't seat early". Came here today for the first time. Lovely eater views, got to see sunset. Food was pretty good, I got the Italian scallop pasta which the scallops were perfectly cooked but the pasta and sauce were very salty. We also got the prosciutto Flatbread which was nice. We also got dessert. I had the creme Brule and I liked it alot. Not too sweet, nice crust on top. My friend got the chocolate cake, also nice, but I found it too dense for my taste.
