I had a wonderful lunch at the Costas Inn location at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. The main dining room was fairly large with lots of tvs. I could definitely see this being a hot spot for catching a game with friends. Our server (I wish I could remember her name) was so attentive and nice. She made sure we were well taken care of and felt welcomed for our first time dining at Costas Inn. I got their Shrimp Salad Sandwich and a side of their Creamed Spinach. That might have been the best Shrimp Salad Sandwich I've ever had...legit! I loved the amount of Shrimp they put on the sandwich, the way the Shrimp were fresh, and the seafood seasoning they put on it was a very nice touch. I give the sandwich a 9.5 out of 10. The Creamed Spinach came soaked in Amaretto with Provolone Cheese melted on top (sorry I didn't get a picture), and I love Amaretto as a drink. So, I had to try this as a side. It was overall good. Not as creamy as I thought it would be, a bit watered down, but the Amaretto did indeed give it something different and unique to it that I liked. I give their Spinach a 7.5 out of 10. The manager (I'm assuming that who he was) was very friendly and came to check out everyone's tables to make sure everyone was enjoying their food and experience. I really appreciated that. 10/10 for the customer service from our server and the manager. I definitely will be back, hopefully soon, to try their other menu items. read more

Stopped by to cash a winning ticket from Derby and celebrated by staying for early dinner. Wife and I started w beers and steamed clams. The clams were cooked perfectly and were very tender. Wife had crabcake Sammy and I had a special sammy w shrimp salad and crabcake. Mine was huge huge portion and was great after giving it a few shakes of old bay. Wife said crabcake was ok but more backfin than lump. Both came w mountain of crisp fries. Server was the nicest person ever. Katie. We went here with another couple and we all enjoyed everything. Crabcake eggrolls were super yummy! Gulf shrimp entree had HUGE shrimp. Service was OK but server seemed young and new - we went when they had just opened. The restaurant itself has an older feel - it could be a little more lively. Took my mom here for Valentine's Day. Never been to a State Fair so didn't realize it was there. I really enjoyed the food. The mac and cheese was delicious as well as the portion size (it was for a kids meal) and the breadsticks were winners. I had scallops and a crabcake. It was tasty. Mom had a surf and turf type meal and she was very very pleased with her meal. Overall - great food choice. Interesting location and service was acceptable. We made a reservation on Open Table and requested a quiet table. The restaurant is located in the center of the grandstand building at the fairgrounds. There is an elevator at either end that you can take to access the 2nd floor where the restaurant is located. As soon as we arrived, opened the door, and stepped into the restaurant, we knew that having a quiet dinner inside would not be possible. The noise level was so high - everyone was having to raise their voices to communicate with each other. I will never understand why restaurants do not do anything to mitigate the noise - this restaurant has all hard surfaces. My mistake was in thinking that this was a restaurant, when in fact it is a sports bar that serves food. It is a very large space surrounded by TV's and beyond noisy. When the hostess finally arrived, I asked her if there was a quiet table inside, and she agreed that there was not. So, we decided to eat outside on the grandstand concourse. Thankfully, it was not too hot, but at least we could hear each other speak. We had to wait a while while she seated other parties that arrived after us for her to come and clean off a table. She did that - put down place mats, gave us the specials menu and their regular menu and told us that Ethan would be our server. After a bit of time, Ethan did come out and asked us what we wanted to drink. We asked for water with lemon and the wine list. We also told him we needed silverware. Our friends had yet to arrive. He came back with the water and the wine/drink list which had no prices on it, and he was unable to tell us the prices of the wine. Our friends arrived and we debated as to whether we stay or go. We decided to stay and try the food. Ethan, our server, did a good job. My husband ordered the Hot Beef on white bread with French fries with gravy on the side. He was very pleased with his choice. I had the Shrimp Salad on a Brioche roll with lettuce and tomato with French fries and a pickle. The shrimp salad was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Our friend ordered the Soft Crab sandwich only to told that they were out of them, so she changed to a Shrimp Salad sandwich and her husband ordered a bowl of the half Maryland Crab and half Cream of Crab soup. After the food arrived, the only problem we encountered here was that we had no silverware to eat with, and Ethan had to go get some, which took a long time to get. When he returned, he explained that they were out of silverware, and he had to wait to get clean ones. All in all, we liked the food. Will we come back? - not likely! read more

What a great meal! We made our way to this new location of Costas Inn for a Sunday evening dinner. Though we had made reservations, we didn't need them as there were many available tables when we arrived. Landon was our server and she was excellent. We ordered water and as soon as it arrived put in our order. We each had crab soup and both the size of the cup and bowl were bigger than other restaurants. The soup was tasty with lots of vegetables and lump crab meat. I ordered the soft shell crab platter with fries and apple sauce. The others in my party had crab cakes and they looked and tasted very good. My soft shell crabs were big and meaty with a light coating. I opted to take my fries home so that I could get the rice pudding for dessert and it was wonderful. The rice was just the right consistency and very creamy. The meal was wonderful and it was a nice location, relatively close to home. I'm looking forward to returning here soon and I highly recommend visiting for wonderful food and service. read more

Full house during Thursday lunch hour! Very encouraging to see this house is catching on! The excellent? Server aka waiter was over the top and very attentive during this visit with my buddies and me. Ambiance? Hospitable and inviting. Food? Cream of crab was ok. Very thick and dense with Sherry. Other than that, tasty and abundant with crab. I loved the half n half at my flagship visit with soon to be extended family a few weeks ago! Entrees are abundant! Loved my Costas cheeseburger though a tad overcooked. One buddy had the open faced roast beef Sammy with fries and gravy. He enjoyed it and gave me an idea for my next visit. My other buddy ordered the cheesesteak. I don't know if he asked for provolone as the sub came out with American. Still enjoyable. I had the cheesesteak the last time with these guys and the meat was a little dry yet tasty. May need to revisit this one as well. So glad Costas is catching on at the track. I was thrown off because the Mac and cheese wasn't what I'm used to I thought it would be baked but let me tell you something do not judge a book by its cover that Mac and cheese is GOOD SO GOOD!! Came here opening night and this place makes you truly feel like family. - A million TV's, great music, great food for a family restaurant. Having never even been to the original location, I highly recommend the Pit Beef Classic and was pleasantly surprised and loved the bite of the horseradish mayo. - Apparently they never fry in Non-Trans Fat oil and you can definitely tell a huge difference in their food. - The restaurant is located on the second floor up an elevator inside the racetrack and my wife and I had a beautiful walk back down to our car watching the sunset on the fair grounds. - Service was 10/10 and literally all the staff went out of their way to check on us constantly throughout our meal and made us feel apart of the family! Went there with a meetup group last evening. Had to ask a server to start taking our orders after sitting there for over half an hour. They took our order and food delivered after a 45 minute wait. They forgot my order. The place was packed but that is no excuse. I complained to the manager about not receiving my order after waiting 1 hour. She said she would get on it but didn't offer me any compensation. I continued to wait but got tired of waiting and walked out. The server apparently arrived shortly thereafter and the group leader told the server he would go get me if they offered to waive any charge for the order which they did. The group leader found me and I returned. Bottom line while the food is excellent but the service is horrible. They need to staff up especially on a music night which this was featuring a local jazz musician. Bad service will cost them customers. read more

Went for the first time Saturday night to watch horse racing and March Madness. Service was great, beer was cold, place was busy and well staffed. Had the oyster stew and it was delicious and done just right- you could tell it was fresh. Went out on a limb and had hot italian sausage sandwich. So many times the peppers and onions are soggy afterthoughts from some warming bin- not here! The peppers and onions were grilled then and there. Fries were also very good. Good crowd too- about 50/50 locals and out-of-towners. Locals told me that food was very consistent so I will be going back. It is admittedly off the beaten path but if you can't find, means an open table for me when I get there. read more

This was a turnkey operation for Costas. Interior hasn't changed but definitely carries a bit more charm. Sat at the large stainless steel bar and had a couple drinks and a nicely chilled salad. Moved to a spicey gumbo which bordered on too much rice but tasty all the same. Funnel cake fries for dessert dusted with powdered sugar. Requested a hot fudge dipping sauce, which worked out well.
