Amazing coffee shop and market! The drinks are amazing and I loved my turmeric latte. It was spicy and super flavorful and frothy. The pastries are also so delicious! I had the pecan sticky bun. I ended up at Boxcar after a negative experience at Loving Cup down the street and this place turned my mood right back around. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from start to finish. The coffee is wonderful and the baked goods were so good I ended up getting more to take home. The environment is exactly what I was looking for in terms of a small business with a good esthetic. Even though I live in Denver, I'm excited to make this a regular stop on weekend adventures. My only feedback is that one of the baked goods I ordered, the spinach and feta danish, also had ham in it. I'm not sure if I got the wrong item or if the danish was simply not labeled correctly, but I am vegetarian so I was not able to enjoy it regardless. It wasn't a big deal at the time, but definitely something to pay attention to. Although I didn't notice until I was back in Denver, given the friendliness of the staff, I have absolute confidence that the issue would have been resolved with respect and kindness had I been able to address it in person. read more

Boxcar is a classy cafe, shared with Cured for cheese and meats. Its cool ambiance had us excited to try the coffee. We were expecting to have an experience as beautiful as the locale. The coffee here is for a particular taste...if that's what you want to call it. The standard espresso used in their drinks is a very tart medium roast. As an avid espresso drinker, it tasted slightly burnt and was difficult to stomach. At a price of over $5 for a small cappuccino with a milk alternative, it certainly was not worth the splurge. read more

Pastries and coffee at Boxcar were top notch. We visited a few times while on vacation. Pro-tip - we got one of their bottled lattes to share in the early AM before embarking on the drive to Rocky Mountain and it was such a nice way to start the day. My only complaint is the long line. The tables also are not all clustered together so you can still enjoy a bit of your own space. The coffee here is not as rich and smooth as some of the other locations in Boulder, however. I was honestly disappointed with the coffee. I think people hype up this coffee shop too much. It's not great, I honestly would have preferred Starbucks (which is absolute sh*t). I just ordered an iced matcha latte, which there appeared to be black floating balls similar to small boba pearls in it. They were actually balls of the matcha powder. They did not mix it well and as each little ball of powder dissolved in my mouth, it was overwhelming bitter and unpleasant. My husband got an iced latte and that was fine. read more

A couple of bags of whole coffee beans from Boxcar somehow makes their way into our monthly grocery budget every month without anyone batting an eyelash. So I guess the coffee is probably good here? Just kidding. It's definitely great, to the point that we've stopped ordering deliveries of coffee beans from our SF favorites of Ritual Coffee or Blue Bottle. Of course, doing our own version of pour over coffee at home doesn't quite do Boxcar Coffee justice. So before I returned back to work full-time, I would "helpfully" drive my husband to work in downtown Boulder rather than let him ride his bike. I would treat myself to a creamy latte while I was at it for doing all that driving. Whew! I also enjoy the ambiance here, so sometimes I would bring my laptop and do some light work while people-watching. There aren't a lot of outlets, but Boulderites are super nice and willing to share. This was a great stop for coffee and a pastry when I was in town recently. The space is fairly large and shared between the coffee roasters and a gourmet provisions shop, which was about to open when I was there (opens at 10:30AM typically). There is also a wine shop in the back, and several small tables indoors and outdoors. There was a line when I was there around 10AM on a Tuesday, but it moved quickly. The pastry selection is beautiful but very small. I was disappointed to miss the savory feta and spinach pastry I had been hoping for, but enjoyed a selection of other items during my travels that day, including a chocolate chip cookie, a savory danish, and a petite but perfect chocolate donut with delicious cream filling. Mountain time doesn't quite agree with me. I'm still waking up early and being too early for the museums. I stopped in at Boxcar for an espresso and some wifi to wait until the next stop was ready for me. Boxcar is a cute space that shares with a butcher/charcuterie and wine shop. On a Thursday morning, the place was quite full though I managed to luck out and get a table as someone was leaving. There are also tables outside on the sidewalk if your computer screen is bright enough to compete with the Sun. Espresso was excellent. As it was "for here," it was served in a proper ceramic cup of the right size and with a small glass of seltzer water. Well done! They have quite a few pastries on offer but I stuck with the coffee and the wifi. read more
