Came here after breakfast because I wanted a high quality coffee and this place did not disappoint! I just had a simple iced latte and it was perfectly made and great in the heat. **(YC2017, 100/100)** finally! Arguably ranked one of the best coffee shops in Boulder in any online search, Boxcar certainly does live up to the hype! On a business trip, I went a little out of the way to come here in the morning before work and there was already people waiting for the shop to open. The line was quick and efficient since they had 3-4 baristas on hand to start the morning. Parking can be found on the street. Boxcar has a nice, clean interior with a shared space with a cured pork shop (or something similar). There was wifi and plenty of seating inside towards the back with some seating outside also. I ordered a Cortado and a Latte from some friendly baristas. Both came out quickly and near perfect. The crema was excellent and the art was clean; the cortado tasted a little burnt though, but still good. As I was waiting, I noticed these two giant beakers with coffee grinds in it -- turns out Boxcar has a unique method of BOILING coffee, with a drink called "The Boilermakr." They take advantage of Boulder's high elevation, which apparently lowers the boiling point to 202F, a good temp to make coffee. It's a meticulous process, and I hope I get to try it next time! They also have some artisanal pastries too. Boxcar is undoubtably one of the coffee juggernauts in the area, and I encourage you give it a try. This is strictly a review of the coffee. They seems to have like a deli with sandwiches and stuff also. Did not try that. The coffee however was on point. I had a cappuccino, I always have a cappuccino, it's my standard candle by which I judge coffee places. The coffee was very rich and flavorful but not bitter. Which is hard to find. They also serve it in real glassware if you are dining in which I like. Would love to try their deli someday but has just eaten before coming here. read more

Boxcar is a classic go-to coffee shop. I usually go here earlier in the morning to beat the rush (7-7:30). I am impressed with there warm faces and excellent service so early in the morning. They are on their game! I've gotten a variety of their beverages here, anything from one of their drip coffees to their teas or speciality drinks; I haven't been disappointed in one. As for food, they primarily have small plate pastries and a few egg baked muffins. My favorite is the spinach and feta everything croissant! When it gets busy, it can be hard to find seating. However, there usually is a steady flow in and out so if you do want to wait for a table, it goes pretty quickly. There is also outdoor seating off of pearl which is wonderful on a warm sunny day. read more

What I ordered: 1 filter coffee, 1 chai They put your order on a tray with a receipt that doesn't match your name or say what you ordered. There aren't labels on the cups so you have to taste test if you ordered more than 1 drink. Filtered coffee - extremely burnt beans. Tasted like coffee was brewed too long so it burned. & it was bitter just like Folgers coffee. Chai - more like warmed oat milk. There was no chai flavor (spicy nor sweet flavor) & tasted like oat milk. If you like burnt coffee or want a drink you didn't order, this is your go-to spot. read more

I only started drinking coffee a little over a year ago, so I'm not by any means a coffee snob or junkie, but I heard about this place and really wanted to get a drink here. A couple friends took me here because it was also their favorite coffee house. And I got my drink. A latte. A little, fabulous latte! It was perfect. And it was beautiful. Literally. The drinks are works of art. The baristas create hearts and flowers and swirls in the foam, which are a lovely touch to the already wonderful drinks. And the way they brew it? Old-fashioned cowboy style! As for Boxcar itself, it's got a bit of a minimalist hipster edge. Brick walls, marble counters, minimal decor, stylish baristas, and limited seating. While not the best space to camp out with your laptop or spend hours chatting with a friend, it's a marvelous little coffee shop -- mainly because of the drinks. There aren't too many food options because their main focus is coffee. As it should be. Boxcar also shares its space with Cured, a meat and cheese store. I was a bit confused at first and thought that half of the building was part of Boxcar but it isn't. A friend of mine recommended Boxcar Coffee Roasters since we were from out of town. I'm so glad she did because it was the best coffee we had on our entire trip to Colorado! The coffee was perfectly balanced and robust with flavor. They also have a nice selection of baked goods including gluten-free options. There are several tables inside and outside where you can work with a laptop. Boxcar shares a space with another business called Cured where you can buy sandwiches, salads, and prepared foods. Simply the best cup of coffee in town. Boxcar had super high quality roasted coffee, I always go in and order a Oat Milk Latte (yes is amazing/bougee but just trust). I checked out Boxcar coffee on a Monday morning after receiving a recommendation from an Uber driver. The coffee shop was busy, but the line moved quickly. Prices were on the higher end, but overall what I expected for a place of this caliber. The espresso blend used for the cortado was stellar. My friend and I split the koign amman (a sweeted croissant-like pastry) and the Boxcar bar, both of which were good, although I had a slight preference for the Boxcar bar. I would definitely return here if I find myself in Boulder again, and I'd highly recommend this coffee shop to locals and visitors alike! read more

I was passing through Boulder on my way to the mountains and stopped here to grab a latte. The coffee was so delicious that two days later, on my way back, I stopped here again. Not only was the coffee exceptionally delicious, but the service was friendly and speedy. The second time I came in, the line was long, but the baristas were so highly efficient that I still got my coffee and got out the door in less time than I would have in other shops with half the line. Im not a huge coffee person, so when I go to places like this I always order hot chocolate because I'm a bit sensitive to caffeine. I can say that this isn't any Nestlé stuff, this is genuine hot chocolate. When it was served it had a layer of cream that wasn't too sweet and it was served at the perfect temperature.
