What a cute little cafe and coffee shop. Don't be fooled, I said "little" but this place is actually huge! The seating area isn't what you see after you order, walk to the left and through the door and there are table and chairs down the hallway. Keep walking and there's a nook with more tables and chairs. Food was good. The slice of quiche was HUGE and filling. The bread of the Croque Madame that I ordered were both light and fluffy as well as chewy, it was a GREAT breakfast! We ordered a kouign amann for a little sweet bite after breakfast. It was nice and crispy at all the little edges. I really appreciated the artistry of the pastry. Parking n the street was not too tough. I'm from Los Angeles so I believe I'm always battling for parking but we found a spot a short distance away and there's lots of shops to stop and check out to keep you busy. Tidbit!!! There's plenty of seating here, including patio seating. It's a weird L shaped shop, so bring your friends for breakfast and enjoy this beautiful industrial Parisian shop. Onto the review -- I can't stress enough that the food to get is the breakfast here. My office has stopped by quite a few times for coffee, pastries (multiple croissants, tarts, all of it flaky and delicious) & the quiche. All of it has been quite delicious. In fact, the only bad bites have been lunch, but that may be my personal preference for good crumb on the bread (their baguettes is kinda undercooked, so the crust isn't as crunchy as I'd like; and their croque monsieur and madame have felt soggy with oil from the cheese). Service-wise, everything comes out pretty quickly! I think the only confusing part is whether or not to bus the tables ourselves. Sometimes we get told not to. I Went thinking it would be a quicker option since you order at the counter and then the food is brought out when ready, but it was a bit of a wait. The pastries and coffee came out quick/immediately but the actual plates took over 30mins. The staff were nice, and there were many seating options! Great French food for brunch or lunch. Order at the counter and food comes out to your table. Plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the outdoor seating was shaded. We were there on a fall Saturday around 11am and the line to order moved quickly. There was no problem finding a place to sit. Quiche was classically French - very rich! My husband and I were out and about for Boulder Startup Week and in the process, we bumped into a friend who told us about Maisonette. I hadn't been into the building since pre-covid Frank's Chophouse and it looks amazing. It's always been a neat structure, but the current version of simple, rustic, elegance works perfectly for this little pastry shop. The desserts are beautiful and were very tempting, but I ended up with the Matinette. It came with a side of beautiful fresh greens. The Matinette itself was topped with a perfectly cooked egg and was superb. Parking is as easy as anywhere in the area (there's an underground garage just across the street). Also, this is the most walkable part of Boulder with plenty of public transit. Overall, it's really exciting to not only have the space in use again, but by such a great little place. The more I go here, the less enchanted I am becoming. It has potential to be better and I hope they get there. My friend and I finally went early enough to see a full variety display of the pastries. We were there minutes after opening and they had a full case. We bought a few to take home for other family members and I will report on the quality of these later. I had an almond croissant and a cortado at the table. I'm glad they have opened up more of the existing seating which had been used by the previous occupant of this building. I saw why there are almost no pastries left by 11. Within 10 minutes of opening the line was long. There is a hotel directly across the street, whose food reputation is only fair so I guess this place serves the purpose. The cortado was the smallest and most tasteless I have ever had. There is an excellent one down the street at the coffee bar of a popular food hall. They got confused and made this one "to go" in a silly tiny "bathroom type" size paper cup. My almond croissant was "for here" so why not the drink? The almond croissant was warm, large, fresh and as heavy as lead and too sweet. I have had them all over Boulder and this was not even close to as enjoyable as a long time north Boulder bakery. I washed the serving down with 2 glasses of water to make up for lack of fluid in the cortado and broke off a big chunk of the warm baguette to eat immediately, that I was taking home. The baguette was the star of the day, warm, crispy outside and fluffy inside like any in Paris I have had. I will adjust the review if necessary once the rest of the pastries are eaten. Know that even compared to quality places across Boulder, the prices are here are high. Not for every day for many. They have apparently spent a lot on the remodel and it does look great and they are still training serving staff and need to continue to do so for sure. read more

I went here on a date with my wife and our baby girl during our anniversary weekend. It was a great start to our morning and completely found on a whim while we were parking. I wanted a coffee shop and bakery and it like magic appeared. They have ample seating outside which was ideal for the day and the fact that we had a stroller with us. Inside, they have a nice cafe set up where baristas are making drinks, a decent amount of seating, and a long pastry and baked goods case. Coffee was a given for our order but now we had to decide on treats. Immediately, I saw a berry brioche bun that looked amazing. I also got a French onion straw and my wife got a strawberry tart. For coffee, my wife got a vanilla iced latte and I got a cold brew coffee with some vanilla in it. They made sure to get the baked goods fast and the coffee came out super quick. I guess we both ordered cold drinks which speeds it up but the barista were moving like lightning. The food was amazing. The French onion was savory and perfectly crisp. It was the exact type of baked good I like to have in the morning. The berry brioche was delicious and every bite was flavorful and layered. The coffee was good but for sure go here for the pastries, baked goods, quick service, and outdoor seating. read more

My husband is French so we are always on the lookout for some authentic French pastries and Maisonette has exactly that and then some! This gorgeous establishment was right across from our hotel so naturally we went right after check in to grab some pastries. We got an almond croissant, plain croissant, chocolate chip cookie, banana bread pudding and something similar to a pain suisse which I forgot the name of. All were AMAZING. The almond croissant was easily the best I've had anywhere! Our last morning here my husband grabbed me another croissant and a latte which was the best latte of our trip! You would never guess they opened less than a year ago! It feels like it is already a staple in this community. My one regret is not dining in and trying some of their breakfast and lunch items! Great coffee! Croque Monsieur was average at best. The ham slice was almost see thru and could not taste it but was able to taste the great cheese ontop of the dry bread. Did not like the cream sauce served with it. High priced for what it was. I think I ordered the wrong item given all the options. The almond croissant was great but the apple puff pastry was not. The ham and cheese croissant I heard was good. I did like the owner stopped over and was cleaning tables. Huge plus supporting his employees and that alone would have me drive 20 miles to this place. I give a four star for their pastries, which are good (not great), but today my husband and I got the Parisienne sandwich, which states that it is the classic french sandwich made of toasted baguette, butter, ham and cheese. I have had their baguette cold and it was good, but today it tasted like it had been microwaved, not toasted. It was so rubbery I could barely take a bite. I literally had to rip it with my teeth to get a bite! And then had to chew a really long time. It was beyond hard and rubbery, almost inedible. It was exactly like when you microwave bread. I am not a microwave fan at all, and a french restaurant microwaving their baguette's is almost blasphemy. This would never happen in Paris where bread is everything. I eat this same sandwich every time I am there and this was unfortunately not that glorious sandwich. I will probably still go back for their pastries, eggs, and I am willing to try the salads (they just opened), but I will never order a sandwich again. It was terrible. Which sucks, because how hard is it to just toast bread?? If they had not just opened, and perhaps working out the kinks, I would have given them one star, but I am hoping perhaps this review might change the way they make this sandwich, and get it together. read more

This was a pleasurable experience. My chocolate almond croissant was amazing. My husband ordered a ham and cheese croissant, and realized that he was allergic to an item in the croissant. Fortunately I ran into Florian Tétart, the amazing chef/owner of the restaurant. I explained my situation and suggested that my husband would be able to eat the Quiche Lorraine. With incredible ease, Chef Tetart changed our order, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the quiche. We'd highly recommend Maisonette, the pastries were amazing, and Florian Tetart's team provided amazing service. Boulder is fortunate to have this new establishment. read more

I went by myself one day and had the Matinette breakfast sandwich. It comes with an egg on top, so it's a knife and fork sandwich. It was absolutely rich and delicious. Perfectly grilled. Took a friend there the next week, looking forward to a Croque Madame. The bread seemed not grilled at all. Lift the bottom of the bread, and it was soft to the touch with pretty much no color to it. I took it to the counter to ask if that is how they make it, and if so, ok, but I've had it other places, and I'm pretty sure it is usually at least somewhat crispy. She said she didn't know, she should, but she could take it to the chef, and she asked if I would like it crisp. I said that it would be nice. It came back with no egg on it this time, and both sides of the sandwich had the hell grilled out of it. The cheese on top was one big crisp. It is a sad thing for a new, otherwise cute and wonderful restaurant to do. Now I can't even recommend it to people, which I love to do when I can. I last sent something back about 20 years ago. If the chef was having a bad day, they should not take it out on their food. If I go back, I'll stick with the Matinette. read more
