Being from the NYC area, I was blown away by what I found at Recouture Consignment in Bozeman, Montana. Their selection perfectly reflected the local vibe and season--think Pendleton sweaters, Woolrich jackets, high-end ski gear, and other amazing winter finds. On top of that, they had plenty of designer and brand-name pieces at incredible prices. I scored a Marc Jacobs crossbody bag, some great plaid button-downs, a beautiful collection of scarves and shawls, and even some super cool jewelry. We visit the YC and Big Sky every year, and I will absolutely be making Recouture a must-stop again next trip. I can't wait to see what treasures they have waiting next time. We thought it would be fun to check out so I made a quick turn to head to the parking lot. The store shares the building with a wine shop, but I was really surprised by the selection. Near the front entrance are an assortment of bags and when you walk a little further towards the windows they have a section of bargain pieces! There a $15, $20, and $25 short dress, jackets/outerwear section, and I believe a $10 tops section. The center section of the store had some really great designer pieces, but many were $100+, which is well above my price range for second hand. Nevertheless, if you go to the opposite side of the shop there's a whole section of items that are half off! There's a fun shoe section with some cowboy boots - though they just weren't my size *cries* They have a couple of mirrors around the shop as well as a dressing room, so it's a fun place to play dress up. I did find two jackets as well as a gold belt that I liked on this trip, so it was still a success! Hours Mon-Sat: 10am-6pm Sun: 12pm-5pm Parking: Plentiful Summary: This shop has an upscale boutique vibe to it. Bridger Thrift has a nicely selected collection of items you'd find in a thrift store: clothes, dishes, glassware, toys, shoes, furniture, art, miscellaneous goods. Nothing unusual about that. What made Bridger Thrift standout is that everything was useable. I didn't see any torn, ripped, sketchy stuff and surprisingly, there wasn't a lot of dust. Either they sell out quickly, or the staff takes time to clean and keep things looking fresh. Of course, I may have been there during a time the inventory was getting a refresh, and maybe it was fluke. In any case, the people are great -- helpful, but not pushy. I found some glass jars that have been very hard to come by, even in main-stream stores, so I walked out of this thrift store with my stash placed in a reusable bag. The circle of recycling complete. "Boz Angeles," as one of my uber drivers called it. I was dejected from not finding anything, and set off to meet the rest of the bachelor party at a steakhouse. It was then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw 2 rustic yellow chairs with a sign that read "Rare Bird Vintage." I entered into the small, highly curated space that is an ideal vintage shop. A healthy mix of clothing, old trinkets, bags, books, postcards, shoes, etc. The tags on everything have handwritten prices and notes on each individual item of when it's made. This attention to detail can only come from passion. I immediately pulled off a denim jacket off the rack and tried it on. The owner, Olivia, ran over and said "That looks so good on you, but I have another deadstock denim jacket from the early 90s that I think would look AMAZING on you." I tried it on and loved it, but it was slightly oversized. I'm really shy and insecure so I asked Olivia's opinion. "It honestly fits you perfect. It reminds me of something that I would see in Shibuya, this is a classic Japanese look." 90% of my personality is my trip to Japan and how much I love Japanese culture, so I had no choice. She and her mom, who also owns the shop, gave me a full rundown on how to wash this deadstock denim and why it is such a unique piece. You could just feel the passion oozing out of them. While checking out for both denim jackets, I found a sweatshirt for my girlfriend, a vintage coffee table book about Florence, and a cool Hokkaido pin. He proposed in March and I wore it out only on special occasions (I work with my hands) and by November, I noticed a large chip in my stone. We went in to the store in person to have the ring evaluated for structural issues and discuss potential solutions. The floor rep seemed very surprised at the setting, claiming the stone was too thin to be set in this manner. The issue was brought to the owner, who blew us off. They offered to start over and reset the stone in a more secure setting (at our expense, of course) and offered no reasoning as to why this could have happened. I called later to discuss the situation with the owner, who was incredibly condescending and offered no recourse. To quote Cec, "If you drive a car off the lot and get in an accident, do you call and complain to the sales rep?" As far as I'm concerned, if you buy a brand new car, drive it off the lot, and have a mechanical issue at 2,000 miles, you sure do. They send their jewelry off to be set by a third party and finish the design work in house. If they weren't able to come up with a design to support this diamond for basic wear, I wonder what we actually paid them for... The diamond in question was cut in the late 1800s... it made it all the way to Miller's in 2025 and then didn't make it more than 7 months of light wear. I'm sure their showroom pieces purchased from 3rd parties is fine but if you have custom work or require skilled service, I'd save your valuables and yourself the headache and head elsewhere. That's what we'll be doing.
