There's a young woman who works here--she has an accent (possibly Russian or Italian)--and I was truly impressed by her professionalism, care, and ability to connect with people. During my visit, she was the only staff member on duty, yet she managed to acknowledge every customer and graciously let them know she'd be with them shortly. I had a number of detailed questions about racquets, string combinations, and other gear (I'm an advanced player but always eager to learn from different perspectives), and she answered each one with impressive knowledge and insight. Could not be worse service! You take your chances there depending on who is working that day. Ranges from completelyZERO tennis knowledge, to indiffernt, to rude, to ruder. I told them I wanted to BUY a raquet. I play tennis and wanted to upgrade. In trying their test drive system you check out raquets, a service you pay for. When I brought the raquetes back after a week to exchange the person had ZERO knowledge. A young woman, she looked up on her phone the raquet i asked about. She read off the details. I asked how that one compared to another raquet in the sore. She googled that raquet and read the details. ??? I was asking the difference between the two. I added that I am a serious buyer and looking forward to buying from them. She was at a loss. On another week I returned two raquets and asked to try two more. For the fee you pay you get one month of trying out raquets. I asked for two different brands of racquets my tennis partner had on the courts that I got to try out for a few minutes. The young man wasn't sure if they had those. Ok, could he find out? These racquets are pretty easily found -- Head and Wilson. Sheesh. This continued for my month. They were unable to provide me with different raquets, mainly said to keep trying the two i tried at the beginning. Over the years i have gone in to the store to buy balls or clothing and when you walk in they look at you as though you are bothering them as they are busy stringing raquets. God help you if you put out your credit card and say you want to buy. They will tell you they are busy and you have to wait. I had no limit on how much i would pay for a new raquet. I had the grip size; i had two raquets in mind, Head and Wilson and just wanted to try out 2 per week, for the month i paid for. They were unable to do their part of the bargain. they got my money. i got no racquet. That store has been awful for years. Spending my money elsewhere. I'm not a picky person. Wandered in to a tennis store in Manhattan with a great selection and service and spent $550 in half hour! read more

I recently got back into tennis and discovered this hole in the wall downtown. Leonard was very friendly and helpful. I needed some new shoes and he narrowed down the best pair for me. They have a great demo program for rackets to make sure you find the best fit. The fee is waived once you purchase a racket. You can also find tennis attire, tennis balls (Rodger Federer's Wilson RF Legacy are my favorite and worth the price), a basket of used tennis balls for 25 cents a piece, shoes, bags, and racket accessories such as grip tape. I haven't restrung my racket yet, but they also offer this service. This is my go to tennis shop! read more

The guy in this store is rude. If I could leave zero stars I would. I am new to tennis and visited the store on the recommendation of the guy I play Tennis with. when I asked the man working at the store (never got his name) what do I need to look for in racket for a beginner he told me to google it. I was literally just asking him how to pick head and grip size for a beginner. when I started to ask about the rackets he said to me "well I don't want you to spend your rent money". I told him he was insulting me and left. The funny part is If he had just taken a moment to explain to me how to pick a racket he very easily could've talked me into buying one of his more expensive rackets but he chose to be a jerk and lost a sale and customer forever, and I will tell anybody don't shop at his store. read more

Brad Gilbert Tennis Nation has a great demo program, and believe me, I demo'd a LOT of racquets. Each time I went in to exchange they listened, and narrowed my choices down and I now have the perfect racquet. Pat and Harry are knowledgable and helpful. When I picked them up after stringing ( I had already i paid for them) I said I needed 3 dampners. he made me get out my wallet again and charged me $5. Really? for a piece of plastic that costs you $1? if I spend Hundreds of dollars at your shop, I'd think you could be friendly and toss in a dampener... What a sad looking place! A tennis shop you would think as nice and classy store. Poorly lit, overly crowded looking, but mostly bad lighting. I was completely caught off guard. I like Brad Gilbert and like his ESPN tennis commentaries, but boy, this store in Marin County must be: a: relocated and b: redecorated . Lastly : There are brands besides Nike. Solid tennis store. The good: They have a good demo program which allows you to try many different racquets over a period of 3 months. This costs 30 bucks. They do a good job stringing racquets and usually can get it done relatively fast. The staff is knowledgeable, professional and friendly.
