The place is always clean, well maintained, it helps that it's in a nice location, but, it isn't so much my criteria in rating them 5 star. Of course, they are many good salons in Boston. This one checks all the boxes in primary requirements for a salon. It's not about fads and buzz words in their service. It's the depth of understanding of hair and people. For about 10 years and couple different salons (each were good, just did not give me creative options). They had cookie cutter suggestions which gave me a good hair cut, but it was standard - plain jane type. At Bradley and Diegel, my stylist Maite, has given me 2 distinctly different and new looks in two years. Greg at the reception, took time to understand my needs and recommend the right stylist to me. I could not be happier with my experience at Bradley & Diegel Salon. I went to a salon (on a recommendation for their great price) a few months ago and left crying, my hair was orange and it looked terrible!! They did what they could to make it better and I let it heal for a few months before deciding to go to a real salon. They are friendly from the moment you walk in! I was introduced to my colorist within a minute. They girls I worked with were amazing. Yasmeen knew exactly what to do with my color to fix it. She was honest and I loved that. The last lady I went to at the other salon basically tried to do what the picture I showed her was and that was not a good idea for my hair. Yasmeen looked through the pictures I brought in and we chose a look that I really liked but would also ACTUALLY work for my hair. Hayley came over and did a cut consultation before the coloring even began! That was awesome! I knew what was going to be done from start to finish. The staff was consistently asking if I needed anything they were great. They also have the most comfortable chairs to sit in for hair washing. Hayley and Yasmeen fixed my hair and were very easy to talk to. They are my new team I will be going to them from now on!! I was very impressed with their products and the price of everything. Came using a Gilt Deal for a haircut and blow dry. The deal stated a haircut worth $90 would be provided and upon looking at the website a $90 haircut is usually provided by a level 2 stylist. My hair was cut by a junior stylist. I left with a subpar haircut, my bob was uneven after I requested a fix and my bangs came out horrible. I wanted side swept bangs and instead got thick straight cut bangs that look out of place. My hair is now choppy in the back and still uneven. I left feeling that I could have gotten the same cut at a Supercuts. A person at the front offered to have the stylist fix it so I was happy but at that point I just feared that any attempted fix would make it even worse. Thank god hair grows back. Just had my first experience at Bradley & Diegel yesterday. It certainly lives up to its fantastic reviews! I went because I got a deal on Livingsocial.com, and also because I was extremely bored and fed up with my mop of black hair that I've been dealing with my whole life. Alex was wonderful! She asked me what I was looking for but gave me all the facts up front and discouraged me from bleaching my hair to get the color out. She said she personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing it as it would severely damage my hair and I'd most likely have to cut a lot of it off. I was really appreciative of her honesty and her and the salon's commitment to maintaining healthy hair, not just great-looking hair. The chairs that you sit in for shampooing are massage chairs! That was a nice surprise. I had a 'malibu treatment' to remove coloring from my hair, and during the process, though long and a bit boring, Alex and the salon staff were always attentive-- plus they have a great selection of current magazines that kept me entertained. I then got highlights after chatting with Alex about my options for lightening my hair. She also didn't just go ahead with it without telling me her opinion on how it would suit me. I was super worried because I'd never had highlights although the one time I attempted to have my hair lightened at a salon a few years ago, it was a complete disaster, came out patchy and I ended up paying for basically having my hair look worse than before I came in. This was not the case at Bradley & Diegel! Alex's enthusiasm after looking at how the highlighting came out made me optimistic, but still skeptical. She diffused my hair since I had initially mentioned wanting it curly, and I was amazed at the results (I was also a newbie to diffusing!). The highlights looked great and were a fantastic accent to my hair. I ended up being at the salon for about 3 hours and it was great. My hair came out wonderfully and I already made an appointment to finish the highlights for a few weeks from now. The decor is pretty simple, but it's clean and classy- and keep in mind this is a brand new salon (only a year old I believe) so they still have a lot of room to grow! Karen is an absolute genius with a cut and color. I was so nervous about going light after a few bad experiences and she was incredible. She is easy to talk to and professional. My 3 stars has nothing to do with her, but rather a few of their policies. First, the prices are hard to swallow. Worth it for great color but I wouldn't shell it out for a cut. Also, if you get highlights (full set) which can be 175+ they won't blow out your hair. It was a very strange experience to come back for a big bill and leave with dripping wet hair and not even be able to see the color in full (because it was wet). You only get a blow out with a cut, which is less expensive. You'd think at a high class Newbury street location they wouldn't want anyone walking out with wet hair. read more

I love Lynn Bradley @ Bradley & Diegel Salon. She is an extremely talented colorist and a fantastic woman. After she colored my hair recently, I was told it would be $25 to have my hair blow dried!!! I am paying $90 for a root touch up and then they want to have $25 more for drying my hair? Am I missing something here? Since when is drying your clients hair not part of a hair cut or color? My choice was pay the extra $, leave the salon with wet hair or do it myself! I would really like to know what other people think about this because I am outraged!!! As much as I love Lynn~I will NEVER go back to this salon if this continues to be their policy. The place was bright and clean, and the staff were very friendly, and great location. The Shampoo in massage chair was the best part. I actually had my hair cut by one of the owners (Peter Bradley) who was also very friendly and professional. I came in hoping to get a brand new/different hairstyle than I always do - as normally I always ask for some layering and some angles, but figured going to a place on Newbury St who normally charge $100/cut, maybe they have a new style that will better fit my face. I pretty much told him I trust his expertise to see what would be best style for me - and he still suggested some layers/angles. Overall did a good job, no complaints, and its a great salon, just think its a bit overpriced as the quality of work is comparable to other salons. read more

I really love this place!!!! I always go to Evan, he is amazing and always gives me a fantastic haircut. I originally thought this place was out of my price range, but I think the price depends on the stylist and Evan is really reasonable. I LOVE coming here, it's almost like a spa day. When they wash your hair, you sit in a massage chair that massages your back, while they give you a fantastic scalp massage. Soooo relaxing, I always want to fall asleep. Then they always offer a Nespresso cappuccino or latte to sip on while you get your hair cut. Honestly, I haven't had such a relaxing hair salon experience since I lived in Italy (massage chair, espresso, scalp massage, and use of iPad, all for 15 euro, *tear*!). Evan always does a fantastic job-- I have long, really thick hair and he layers it and frames my face remarkably well, leaving me with shiny, awesome hair that is easy to style afterwards (it even looked great air-dried when I didn't have time to style it). In my seemingly never-ending quest to find a hair salon during my three year stint here in Cambridge, I think I have finally found a new home! A love (Maria) to call my own! I found out about Bradley & Diegel through Gilt City and bought one of their specials to get a hair cut. I procrastinated for so long that instead of getting a pre-birthday haircut as I intended, I got a "God help me, I'm starting to look like Medusa!!!" haircut. My appointment was set with Maria and from the consultation, I knew she was going to be outstanding. I plopped down in her chair, lifted a lank lock of my overgrown hair, and told her that I just celebrated my 30th birthday (*sob*) and wanted a change from the long hair that I've been sporting for the last 6 years. I just wanted something fresh and contemporary that wouldn't be a huge hassle. Maria suggested an a-line cut with the shortest pieces still at the base of my neck, so I went for it. I was led to what I think was the world's most perfect shampoo chair which was all Star Trek-like and mechanized....and gave a pretty good massage, too! The shampoo assistant (Gabe?) had great hands and I felt myself relaxing under his head massage. Normally I'm not a chatty salon person. I will bring a book and read and don't want to make small talk. However, Maria and I talked almost the entire time while she was cutting and blowdrying and flat-ironing and not once did I regret our conversation. She is so funny and spunky and cute. Maria gave me some tips on how to keep my hair from looking such a hot mess (like gee, get some mini highlights because the unintentional ombre look is passe). HAIR DAMAGE...BE AWARE!!! I do not write reviews very often, but I feel I have to warn people. I have been coloring my hair on a Newbury street salon, but wanted to try a different one. I found Bradely and Diegel and saw that they offer a Gilt City voucher. Not knowing any of the stylists over there, I thought trying it with a voucher might be a good idea. When I called, I was told that the only colorist who accepts the voucher is Yasmeen Osman (sometimes goes by Yaz/ Jasmin). Since I like my current hair color and highlights (photo), I asked for touching the roots, but she wanted me to do baylage. I refused and told her I only wanted to do the roots. She gave me an attitude because I refused the baylage then told me that she would then have to do some low lights along with the highlights in the rest of my hair to blend in the color. I agreed, but after she assured me that my hair won't get darker and I won't get the look of dark hair with bright highlights. I thought she would just do a couple of low lights here and there. It took her such a long time to do the low lights and highlights that she had to wash every part of my hair separately before she moved to the other part. When my hair was washed and she started to blow dry it, it was very noticeable that she did A LOT of low lights so my hair became so much darker with very light highlights (90s highlights) and there were some strange brown strands and the highlights were not even. It was also very streaky and blotchy and was totally unflattering (photo) When I expressed that the color became so much darker, she again gave me an attitude and told me that she had to do it darker because my natural hair is dark. She literary said "it sucks when your natural hair is dark"!!! Well, I came to color my roots, not to get rid of my highlights and get my natural hair back. She finally offered to correct it and although I thought she was incompetent, her willingness to correct what she had done, made me not talk to the manager or owner and I finally decided to give her another chance. BIG MISTAKE! She suggested adding a couple more highlights to brighten the color a little bit. Again I agreed after she said, " I would really be careful not to color the strands that were previously colored". I trusted her and she did the highlights, then in the sink she applied something (that she claimed was a toner) but was making my scalp burning and itching although a toner should not do that. Then, while blow drying it, I noticed that strands of my hair were almost gray and were breaking and falling off (photo). Obviously, she colored some of the strands that were previously highlighted so I asked her to stop drying it and I asked to talk to the manager. The manager was very nice and offered a full refund for what I paid, asked a senior colorist to do a hair treatment to try to preserve the hair I have left and to apply a gloss to tone down the color. He even refunded me the $25 tip that I had paid that stylist and gave me a complimentary conditioner. Also, the colorist, whose name is Erica Colameta, was beyond amazing and she was very understanding and did the best she could. However, the manager when he was apologizing said " Yasmeen is a junior colorist and she is still learning and it is unfortunate you were the one she was learning on"!!! Well, we all continue to learn our whole life and that is why I gave her a chance to correct the first failed hair color, but there is a difference between missing up a hair color and allegedly damaging someone's hair. As a certified colorist working at a Newbury salon, she must have known that coloring strands that were previously highlighted would result in severe breakage and hair damage. My hair damage was due to her negligence and I actually believe that she did that to get back at me for having her correct the color. Earlier last year: I got my hair cut by Hayley. She revived my hair from the dead! It took about two hours but it was worth it. She was very detailed, understanding, and the experience was very lovely. Most of all, I loved my haircut! Last summer: I got my hair dyed by Kristina. The process took about two hours and my hair was a cherry red. I loved it! It looked brighter when the sun hit it. She did an amazing job! The dye smelled sooo good and she was careful about it staining my face/ears/neck. The head massage was euphoric. read more

I didn't own a dryer until last year and I still don't know how to use the thing, I don't have hair products, I don't own cute yet differentiated purpose hair bands, I don't know how to volumize, texturize or stylize and for the life of me I can't get rid of this part down the center of my head! And for that one daring risky moment where I permed it all, oy, a mistake that I'll never suffer again. What it amounts to is that I'm a wash 'n go girl trapped in a primp n' style world. Imagine the horror floating across the face of stylists when I mention all this in consultation. Can their cut stand up to the me treatment? Maria wasn't daunted with the challenge, she made me look so pretty so many times over that I wake up looking fabulous! (Well, at least my hair does.) My cheeks are still burning from our hilarious conversation. This place is fabulous. Although I don't go here anymore, I must say that it wasn't just my amazing hair stylist that made this place great, but also the decor, other employees, lay out, technique.. and well, basically everything. I had a hard time finding it the first time around and wound up in an art gallery. Its secluded on the second floor right next to Marc Jacob on newbury and its very chic. You're greeted by the secretary who is super friendly and checks your coat and gives you a smock to change into. They have a dressing room just for putting a smock over your head, talk about high class. They give your head an awesome massage while shampooing/conditioning and its amazing, who wouldn't love that? Each stylists' station has essentially a ceiling to floor mirror which is awesome. Sometimes I would sit turned around away from a mirror in past experiences and have no idea what the lady cutting my hair was doing. So I felt very safe here. Very pricey, but worth it. I have followed my hair dresser from James Joseph @ Wellington Station, to James Joseph on Newbury, to bradley and diegel, and unfortunately, she has moved 45 miles away, a distance I cannot keep up with. So currently, I am hairdresser-less. With that, I probably wouldnt see anyone else here, just because the prices are so high, and hey, I'm a struggling college student. read more

Tldr; There for a free training cut. Reception desk not too friendly, stylist was an hour late. Unhappy about that. Once I finally got it, was pleased with the service. Stylist was required to check in with two senior stylists (Dirk and Maria) who were both great. Final cut was very good, but it took 3 hours (for long hair to short hair). Will return again, as it was a training and the cut itself was good. Overall, just wish I hadn't had to wait so long and the communication on that was better. read more

Absolutely love Evan. He deserves his Allure 2013 Best Stylist mention. He's always the right level of conversational (sometimes I like to read) and most importantly, respectful of my low-maintenance approach to my too-long hair (it's not the most flattering, and I'll go 8-12 weeks between cuts because I'm lazy. Many stylists recommend other cuts. Evan doesn't care - it's mine and he executes perfectly every time, fantastic grow outs and all). Best of all, he's amazing about service and BD enables this. Last year, I needed a highlight refresh prior to a wedding at which I was maid of honor (ladies know: NO major changes before a wedding you're in). Evan spent over 3 hours on a perfectly natural-looking highlight job that unfortunately came out way too dark. I lived with it for a few days but ultimately was not satisfied. With a few hours notice, Evan happily squeezed in an enzyme treatment that undid all his great work. This could have been one of those awkward, terrible situations that forced me to go elsewhere, but I'm still happy with Evan and BD a year later. read more

I do not live or work in the city but it was time for a new hair dresser. I was highly recommended B&D by a friend, so while I knew it would be difficult for me to make it happen I was assured it would be worth it. When I called to make my appointment the gentleman I spoke to was very kind and helpful. He listened to exactly what I was looking for and I was set for a half highlight appointment in two weeks. Since I knew it would be difficult getting to the salon I booked it for a week I was on vacation from work. I was spending the week in northern New Hampshire and told my family I would be leaving vacation early in order to make this appointment. The day before the appointment I received a voicemail from the salon to confirm my appointment for a full highlight. I called back and let them know that my appointment is for a half foil and that I didn't want the hairdresser's schedule to get messed up if they had confirmed it incorrectly. Cynthia rudely asked my name and informed me that this was booked as a full highlight because it was my first appointment and they wanted to ensure they had enough time for a consultation. She couldn't sound more annoyed or get off the phone quick enough. The next day I began my 3.5 hour drive to the salon and got a flat tire on the way. I had factored in some extra time so while this was a nuisance it was not going to affect my appointment. I took care of what I needed to and continued on my way. I then ran into traffic because of road construction and rain drops. I was getting nervous because it was almost time for my appointment. I called the salon and let Cynthia know I was on Newbury Street parking but because my appointment was in a couple minutes I wanted to make sure they knew. She again, as rude as the day before, couldn't get off the phone soon enough. All the nearby garages were full and there was no street parking. I finally found parking and was running to the salon when I got a call from Cynthia. She asked where I was and when I told her I was running to the salon and was just a couple blocks away she (rudely, of course) told me that she was cancelling my appointment because I was now 15 minutes late. When I pleaded with her she put me on a brief hold and then came back and said "no, we have to cancel your appointment." She informed me of the cancellation policy of charging 50% of services but said because I was recommended by someone who had previously worked there she would waive it for this first time but would not make the exception again. She then asked me when I would like to reschedule to which I explained that I would not like to reschedule. I was really looking forward to trying this salon and they could have gained a very valuable client in me (consistent color and extensions). Maybe if the pleasant gentleman I booked the appointment with was the full time receptionist I wouldn't have been put off as much as I had because of Cynthia's rudeness but that's just speculation. Maybe their client services inside the salon are just as bad as their outward facing receptionist. read more

Located in a glamorous and upscale neighborhood, I wasn't sure if I would walk into a pretentious salon today. I was very pleasantly surprised, as the staff at Bradley and Diegel Salon promoted a truly down to earth and friendly environment that felt like home. I first had a color consult with Gabe, who was extremely knowledgable about how to correct my color from a previous experience at a different salon downtown. He explained to me his plan to correct my tone from golden to ash blonde, and made me feel extremely comfortable. I trust he will do a beautiful job, and can't wait to update this review in a few weeks once I have my appointment with him. I then had my appointment with Shannon, who gave me the most beautiful a-line cut I've ever received. She was extremely concerned with ensuring I got the type of style I was looking for, but provided really helpful advice as to what length would best suit the cut and my face shape. She was very easy to chat with, and made me feel very comfortable. She was also very knowledgable about product and styling as well, offering me suggestions that the salon offered that was animal cruelty free- something I had told her was very important to me. Aside from that, all the staff genuinely seemed happy to be servicing their customers. Reception was very helpful and patient with me as I asked about a million questions about pricing for my next appointment. All the assistants that I observed were smiling and positive- complimenting me on my jumpsuit and striking up conversation. This type of customer service really makes a difference. Also, the massaging chairs are SO great. I've been so nervous about booking appointments with upscale salons, based on past experiences at other places on Newbury St.. I couldn't be happier to be proved COMPLETELY wrong. Everyone here was wonderful and made me feel so comfortable and respected. I followed Laurie over here from her previous salon and really enjoyed my first visit. The salon has some interesting design elements with clean lines and a bright interior. Getting a guy's haircut I don't tend to interact with many different people in a salon, but the people I did meet there were very nice. Regardless of all that, a good haircut is the only thing that really gets me to keep going somewhere, and I can only really comment on Laurie, whom I continue to love going to see. She always does a great job, is totally laid back and is the antithesis (in all the good ways) of what some might see as the stereotype of a Newbury St. stylist. Laurie does a great job with guys' hair. So, I recommend the salon on the basis of the place itself, the massage chairs in the shampoo area, the general friendliness of the staff, and the online scheduling. The 5 stars I'm giving it though are really thanks to Laurie. read more

Ive gone to him for years when i lived in Boston, and was highly disappointed to find out he no longer worked at James Joseph Salon and no one there knew where he went. i live in NJ now and refused to go anywhere else. But without knowing where he was I had no choice but to find something here until i googled him and with an extreme excitement saw that he works at B&D now. needless to say I'm making a trip to Boston in 9 days to see him!!! I'm just another loyal fan/follower of Laurie! She's just about the nicest person you'll ever meet and extremely talented. After trying another salon/hairdresser and not getting what I was used to - I went SPRINTING to B&D. Having grown up on CostCutters it's taken me some time to get used to shelling out big $$ for a haircut, but you get what you pay for here. I'd hand over my first born to the shampoo-gal if she asked, it was that good. Not only do the chairs massage, but (I'm sorry I didn't catch her name) gave me an awesome scalp massage along with my shampoo and condition. I didn't want it to end. Ever. The design of the salon is beautiful. White walls, dark wood, very clean and streamlined everything. I wasn't sure what to think of the full length mirrors at first (well, now I know how my lap looks when I'm seated and draped in a cape) - but you can see everything going on in the salon through those. I have been looking for a new salon for over a year now since my old stylist quit working. I've seen my share of really expensive bad haircuts. I, too, had a deal, so thought I'd try Bradley & Diegel. I was given an appointment with Alex, which turned out to be pretty damn lucky. She just absolutely gets it...she gave me a great consultation and showed me why my last ($110) cut wasn't doing what I wanted it to. She was funny and friendly and I ended up with a haircut that not only looked great when I walked out; it looks great after I did my amateur styling too. I just had an amazing experience here! I saw one of the apprentices (Jeanna) who needed a model for a mid-length layered cut. The training program at B&D is very rigorous- it's two years long!- so all of the stylists are very well-trained and professional. When I sat down she offered me coffee, tea, water, latte, or a cappuccino. I took the cappuccino & it was delish! We talked about my hair, which had been bugging me ever since I grew it out from a bob, and she had really great suggestions on how to make it look less heavy and help it look longer while it continues to grow out. I was really impressed with her knowledge and vision, and the haircut turned out amazing!! I think it's the best haircut I've had- no exaggeration The salon is gorgeous & full of giant mirrors. I loved all of the little touches they give that make the clients feel special- like taking your coat when you come in the door & offering hot drinks during the appointment. Everyone in the salon was so friendly and professional. I was very lucky to get my hair cut for free this time, but I would absolutely come here again to see Jeanna when she's a fully trained stylist! Highly recommend :) read more

B&D is fantastic. The vibe is professional and relaxing, the front desk staff are super nice, never any pretension, and the stylists are skilled. I see Alex, who is wonderful for cut and color. Over the years she has made my hair both dark brown and blonde and both were great and natural looking. One of the best things about B&D is the hair washing massage chairs -- they lift and flatten out totally so you are lying down. I always almost fall asleep, and the other day Robin gave me THE BEST head massage. I love this place and how they have consistently stayed on top of the game. Plus you can get a Georgetown cupcake before or after your appointment because its right there. Bonus! read more

Nice salon and location with parking conviently on the street and valet across the street. I have been searching for a colorist for 6 years and have finally found one to stick with, Dirk you are the best! After years of having my hair died every way imaginable my brassy long waivy/curly combination hair needed some TLC and Dirk was more than patient with me. After discussing that my hair has now become a investment we came up with a plan on how to treat it... a maintenance plan if you will. Not shampooing every day after a hard workout at the gym, etc. And also a plan on what to do in the future in terms of coloring... and eventually i'll have to cut it to keep it healthy! I'm in my early 20's and althought price wise my checkbook took a punch I left very happy, you get what you pay for. I will not have my hair blown out due to the additional charge, only for special occasions. When leaving the staff was very accomidating to making sure I got my coat back, scheduled any future appointments, etc. And I love how they didnt push products on me. Love this salon. Definitely the best part is the deep scalp massage when they shampoo+condition your hair, plus you're already in a massaging chair (but nothing beats good massaging hands!) My actual haircut was done by Laurie - she was super nice and did a great job listening to what I wanted done with my hair. She also recommended some great products I should use (sulfate free shampoo, girls, that is a must!). The only thing was that I came about 20mins early and she was running about 10-15mins late, so therefore my haircut seemed a bit rushed so that she could take her next customer...But since my haircut turned out great I won't complain too much :] I'd definitely recommend this place for location, look and feel alone. This is a new salon on Newbury. The salon is very stylish with European flair. I felt very comfortable there, everybody is very friendly, customer-oriented and professional . Get a hair cut with Dirk, he is truly amazing! He has cut my hair for the last 4 years and now that I live in Denver, Co, I travel back to Boston every 3 months or so and get my hair cut with Dirk - careful..... you will never want another stylist again! read more

This place is it. Effortlessly, they provide professional, friendly and sophisticated service. I have seeing Alex for my cut and color for several years now after having traveled my way up and down the Newbury Street salon circuit never fully satisfied. The feel of the salon is modern, classy, stylish, up-scale without being stuffy or pretentious. Alex gets my cut and color right every time. I came in as an over-processed blonde and she was able to tone down the yellow and make me look more natural, just what I had hoped for, from the first time that I saw her. After a friend recommended B&D after I had gotten HORRIBLE dye job at a different salon in Boston, Greg directed to me to Yasmeen Osman (Yaz) for a color correction. She is a miracle worker... Took my orange and green hair (orange roots, weird greenish tips) and turned me back into a brunette with blonde balayage in just two appointments. Not only was she incredibly skilled, but she was also considerate, friendly, and entertaining. She knows her stuff but takes her time to listen to you as a client and ensure you have an A+ experience. My hair is somehow healthier after leaving her salon than when I initially went in despite her having both dyed and bleached it. I feel so lucky to have come across Yaz! read more

I was in need of a new colorist and stylist, and had heard consistently excellent praise for Alex. Turns out she just moved to this new salon, so I made an appointment. I had a wonderful experience there! Alex really took her time getting to know what I wanted/expected; then she totally fixed my color. I LOVE it. And the cut! My hair is hard to cut; it has a lot of wave. I know I've got a good cut when it looks good no matter what I do to it. The salon space itself is very tranquilizing. They have the most relaxing and comfortable hair-washing chairs ever! They raise up, then lay you completely flat, and if that wasn't enough, they have massaging rollers embedded in them... Staff were friendly; I felt very welcome there. I loved it. read more
