The person that helped us was great! He was patient with us considering we had no clue what we were doing to start with our baby chicks. Helped us get a started kit to get everything we needed. Heat lamp, food and water tray, bedding and explained the different types of chickens. Very informative and great customer service. The cashier kinda sucked, he looked like he hated his job and was very dry. Seemed like he was being bothered when I would ask him a question. They have lots of things you would need for all of your barn needs. I did end up paying over a hundred bucks since it was my first time getting everything that I needed. Next time it wont be that much, I hope. Great place to visit and would recommend. If the cashier was more friendly and looked more approachable I would have gave this place 5 stars. She informed me that there is a high chance that they are hens, however it's not guaranteed. They have a pretty good amount of selection. The hens and roosters are in separate areas. Out of all the location in Sacramento I've been too the last 5 years, this feed shop has been the best as of customer service, hospitality, helpfulness, informative, educational and kindness I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Came here and started as a loyal customer April 2020 for my first batch of chickens and while mid pandemic was helped to the fullest, and now on my 6th batch of birds, prices are reasonable and great.!!! First time here. One of the guys was nice and greeted us but I saw a majority of the baby chicks had pasty butt which idk if that's really common and normal at feed supplies. It was just sad to see and they would walk all wobbly because they seemed ill. Then on the other side I saw a baby chick slowly dying. I get it happens but maybe they need to tend to them more. We came here because I needed bedding for my kitten. I first called to make sure it had bedding they were very helpful over the phone. Then we went to the store it's off a long road but it's on its own you can't miss it. They have a ton of stuff here. They are very well stocked and everything was reasonably priced. My sister and her husband were adopted by a rooster that apparently didn't have a good home life at a nearby neighbor's house. The poor little guy looked beat up and undernourished. He really seemed to feel safer in my sister's backyard. That's when we started doing research on how to care for chickens. We decided to go to Bradshaw Feed & Supply to see what they had available. It was a very hot day outside, and there is no air conditioning in this large building, only fans blowing hot air. We walked up and down the aisles looking for chicken feed, feeder, water dispenser, vitamins and possibly some kind of dewormer (just in case he needed it). We were helped by an employee who was somewhat helpful but distracted by other customers. That was OK by me. We could take our time checking all the products they had in stock. They also carry a large supply of dog foods which I did not recognize the majority of the brands. I am a retired veterinary technician and used to the brands we sold at our hospital. But anyway, we decided to buy a few cans of low residue intestinal tract canned food for my sister's dog who happened to be vomiting ever since the rooster came into their lives. We pretty much found most of what we needed except for an anti-parasitic product. They have it only in bulk and way too expensive to try a small amount for one lonely rooster. My one concern was if the food and supplies would degrade from the extreme heat. My other concern was, that they had a large number of chicks and wondered if they received adequate care. They seemed to be OK when we were there though. Very cute and fluffy, separated into different breeds. There is nothing like watching cute baby chicks melt your heart, besides enduring the summer heat! read more

My first time trying to trap a kitten. Came to Bradshaw Feed to rent a trap. Of course I told them what I wanted to trap...maybe a 4 month old kitten. They could have told me the one they had me rent won't work cause it's too big! More for a large sized animal. The step to set the trap would need wayyyy more force than what a 4 month old kitten could give. I called when I got home to tell them I won't be able to use the trap because it was too big. Brought it back the next day because when I arrived at 6:02 even though someone wad inside and they knew I was returning the trap, they were closed at 6pm.ok. turned around and came back the next day and guess what... THEY STILL CHARGED ME THE $3.21 rental charge! AITA THE PRINCIPLE NOT THE MONEY! It was CLEAN and still had the paper on it! The same 2 people I called and told I was coming back to return it. WOW! HOW SAD! Next time I'll take my business to Sheldon Feed. Only 10 more minute away and they listened to me when I told them what I was trying to trap. they brought me 2 different sizes. A small kitten trap or one just a little bit bigger. That's good customer service. LISTENING TO THE CUSTOMER SO WE DONT HAVE TO CONE BACK BECAUSE IT WAS WRONG! Just because you work in a store that smells like poop doesn't mean you have to act like poop. Watching my words. Lol Then when she gives me back my change she says 2 cents with a smart tone. at least in my mind. How sad. Glad I don't have to frequent this feed store.. This is a really happening place to pick up chicks in Sacramento. Ha! Made you look! My husband's hobby is chickens. I know, I know, it's a peculiar hobby to raise chickens. I figured, "Hey. The man doesn't smoke, drink or gamble, so if he wants a few chickens and it keeps him at home, then I'm all for it." So we headed down here after a tip from fellow Yelper Katie T. (thanks for the tip Katie!) and were met by a chorus of chirps. I've never encountered a place that has so many varieties! They even have Jungle Fowl - eagle-looking things that are not sorted by sex, so you don't know what you end up with. We figured we already had some Rhode Island Reds, something called "barre" and a New Hampshire Red so why don't we get a Delaware. This way we can have all the East Coast named chickens. There are also baby ducks, baby turkeys (I've been relentlessly chased by one in my old neighborhood and would never ever spend money on one!), rabbits, etc. Anyway, we ended up with two very cute "blond" chicks. One does not stop chirping, however. We tried to "exchange" it for a quieter one, but they do not allow chick exchanges. So now it is on Craigslist. read more

I came here today to stock up on dog food. There is a sign outside that says: "For The Protection of Our Employees and Patrons MASKS REQUIRED To Enter Store Thanks, The Management" I was glad of that because it gives me a level of confidence to shop here and feel that I can get in and out without undue risk for exposure to a deadly virus. Well, it's nice in theory but does no good if not put into practice. When I came in, I and other customers were complying, but I passed one employee with a bandana over his mouth and not his nose which is as much use as using a condom with a hole in the tip, and worse yet, the employee behind the counter had his mask just dangling under his chin. When I said to him, "A mask doesn't do any good if you don't actually wear it." His reply was, "We have a shield." I said, "That really isn't the point." and his response to that was to tell me, "If you are scared then you should stay in your house." Isn't that nice. An employee who works with the public and demonstrates he had no concern for his own health and safety or mine. And with that attitude, I'm sure he is exactly the sort of person who is taking other risks and is most likely to be exposed and spread Covid-19. It shouldn't even be a question to comply, it's not just the minimum one can do to reduce disease transmission, it is store policy, and beyond that, there is currently a state-wide mandate that masks be worn when out in public. I don't think anything can be done to cure Rob's ignorance and bad attitude, but the owners have the right to demand he follow the health and safety mandate that is in effect. After having been a customer for over a decade, who drives out of my way to come here, I am reevaluating that choice unless things change. read more

Tell me one single person that doesn't like looking at baby chicks?! This gal does!!! I go to buy feed and spend more time gazing at hens I will never buy... but they are so cute!!! All those feathers and fluffiness... ahhhh the cuteness! Back to the nitty gritty. As a horse owner my biggest pet peeve is having to go to 3 feed suppliers to get what I need. This location in particular carries some but not all types of hay, which sucks so they lost a star. Sorry. Not sorry however because it's annoying! If they were a one stop shop, they would be a 5 star location. They are always well stocked and well educated on feed, deworming needs, inoculations, grain, etc. Pros: They have cute chicks and the staff is super knowledgeable about products and recommendations. My husband has bought chickens and feed here many times. Last year, when he bought the chickens, he had to queue for about half an hour to an hour. I want to add new members this year, so I brought my little son here to pick the little hens. The first time we visited the store, the clerk's kind service gave us peace of mind. Our English is not very good, so we do not understand some words, but the clerk is very patient, using simple vocabulary to explain the characteristics and advantages and disadvantages of the chicken, let us know how to choose the chicken we want, I really Thank him very much. However, after returning home, I found that the chicken amount on the bill was wrong. Each of the chickens I bought is of a different breed, but they look very similar. It may be because of this that the checkout clerk mistakenly identified it as a different breed of chicken, so the price was calculated incorrectly. It was not until after I got home that I compared the bill with the price of the live auction, and realized that the price was wrong, and I paid a little more. Fortunately, I just bought some chickens to keep as pets. The price difference is a little bit. If I buy a lot, I will lose more. read more

So out of all times my dad and I have came in and purchased food and snack for the bogs all of sudden today, it's 4% to use my card. The owner must be greedy and hurting for money......did I mention GREEDY? White dude with the beard is the one with an attitude.....when I told him he was the first person to tell me this of course his response was "these guys always tell everyone" NO the heck they DONT! I say greedy because 4% is the max a merchant can charge with using your card....50c a dollar yeah smh greedy greedy greedy! My total went from $76 to almost $80 well $79 and some change! RIDICULOUS! A great animal supply store, although it's located out of the way for me. I bought supplies for a rabbit here but noticed that they carry items for pets as well as farm animals. I especially like the bulk food area. Prices were very reasonable, and the employees were knowledgeable and friendly. I know where I'm going if I ever need bales of hay. Just a note, the hours have changed recently so make sure to call if you're not sure when they open or close...especially if you're driving out specifically for the store. read more

I used to come here a lot because i wanted to support the local businesses around my area. I stopped coming here because the customer service have gone down hill. Back then when I came to this place I was greeted by an Asian guy and he always wanted to help out customers. I don't see him anymore and now I can't get help and don't see anyone helping out customers who have question or need help locating a specific item in the store. I was buying feed for my chickens and there was a huge line with one register open. There was a younger and older lady behind the counter. The older lady didn't even bother to open the second register. She just looked at all the costumers and let out a sigh like she didn't want to be there. I'm giving this place five stars well they don't carry as many supplies as the Sheldon feed store they are the best local place in the area. Yesterday when my mom was picking up 10 bales of hay the kid loading was concerned that my mom would be unloading it all by herself with the storm coming. He mentioned that he got off in 45 minutes and he would be right down to help her unload that he if she needed. My mom had us waiting at her farm so we were able to help her but it's nice knowing that the staff of this store is there for the older phone folks in our community we have been shopping at this establishment since they opened I did not realize they had a yelp page because this should've been done along time ago. I haven't been here since I was a kid, and pass it everyday on my way to work and home. And it's just as I remembered it. I recently came out here to get a high protein dog food for my newer American Bulldog/American Pit Bull Terrier puppy. A couple weeks ago he was 13 weeks old, and had been only 'I AMS' Puppy formula and one raw egg a day. And we were told of a couple good dog food brands for our puppy breed, on of which was Blue Buffalo which was really expensive. The other brands weren't in the big box stores were generally go to or at the Pets Smart down the street from my house. So I told my girlfriend about Bradshaw Feed & Pet Supply, as my mom use to get supplies for our rabbits, and birds as a kid from this location. So we stopped in with our puppy in the late morning on a Monday afternoon. Because it's a feed store, there's nothing fancy needed or expected about this location It looks like a barn/ranch type of place, that has a large selection of animal supplies for everything from cats and dogs, to rabbits and chickens, to goats, and horses. The main supplies are inside, which the things like feed for goats and horses are out in the back. Inside everything has typical ranch feel, basic wooden setup, concrete slab floor, supplies to your right and left. Visually it's easily to tell what areas are for what animals, I believe large animal harnesses and thing like that were to the right, and the food and supplies for domestic animals were to the left. The staff were helping other customers which was fine when we walked in, because we wanted to just look around anyways, and quickly found the dog food section. We were looking for a particular brand that was in a turquoise bag (the brand escape me right now), and it wasn't hard to find. It came in a 40lb bag and was about $15-20 cheaper than the Blue Buffalo brand there that was in a 30 pound bag. So with went with the turquoise bag, and as we were looking customers saw our puppy and noted how beautiful he was. And several of the staff who were now free came up to us to say the same thing, and ask if they could give the puppy some treats. We also asked some questions other treats and toys that they had there, and one of the gentlemen showed us their selection. We went with just the dog food that day, but were curious about their selection of dog collars and chew toys, for when our puppy got older. And once we were ready to go we checked out at the front counter, and the older lady who worked there who was very nice took care of us. And asked if she could get our puppy a treat as well. I said sure as I did with the other staff, and just asked her to get him to sit first. Which Helo (our puppy) did eagerly, lol.
