Worst hair cut I've EVER had. Strange shampoo experience and went down hill from there.

I have lived in Austin since 2000 and generally slut around when it comes to hair stylists. That combined with impulsive last minute appointments have lead to some bad haircuts... But it's just hair and grows back... No worries. So this month I did my normal thing and called Bradz for a same day appointment and was assigned Olivia. Then I proceeded to get the best haircut ever! Seriously. It's normal for your friends and maybe some coworkers to comment on your new haircut. But the girl behind you in spin class!? Your dentists receptionist?? EVERYONE I encounter tells me how much the like my haircut. It's borderline annoying. I went to Bradz years ago while I lived in Austin, and made another appointment with them now that I've moved back to town. The stylists all seem extremely knowledgable, patient and kind, 5 stars to them (especially Lauren)! The salon is clean and the Aveda product selection is great. The front receptionist, specifically the long-haired blonde lady was rude, inefficient and derogatory. If I could only rate the stylist I'd give 5 stars, but as I have to go through the receptionist both before and after each appointment, points off. Maybe I went on a bad day, hopefully next time is better. read more

Purchased a Groupon and used it towards a haircut and color gloss. I had Lauren, who did a fabulous job. I was extremely happy with the cut. Also, as someone who has curly hair, most stylists simply leave my hair wet and curly and don't offer to style it. Lauren offered to blow dry my hair straight, which I really appreciated the extra effort. It looked fabulous, and I got tons of compliments. I am looking forward to stopping by again the next time I need a cut. read more

This is the best Aveda salon I have been to in Austin thanks to a referral from a friend at work! I was greeted as soon as I can thru the door with smiles and a friendly hello! Michelle did an absolutely amazing job!! She took her time and made sure as she was cutting I was completely satisfied. I am so happy and excited about my new cute that I can't wait for my next cut! I've gotten two good haircuts from this salon... For free, because they messed me up beforehand! One of them was a re-cut after I got a bad cut at Bradz New Talent Salon, so that's another story. I got the other free cut after one of the girls burned my face during an eyebrow wax! The sensitive skin just under my eyebrow on one side got burned because the wax was too hot, and I walked around with the nasty burn above my eye for almost two weeks. The day of and day after, my eyelid hurt like hell! I am so over eyebrow waxing... Like I said, the haircuts were fine. But I'll never go back to Bradz. read more

I've been to two different stylists at this salon, and I'll say straight up that these ladies do have skill at cutting hair. I've had my hair cut there 4 times, but after my last cut I decided no more. The problem is I can't get them to cut my hair the way I want it. I have extremely silky, baby-fine, awful hair, and I need a fairly simple, soft haircut that I can wear off my face. I asked the first stylist I saw to cut it above shoulder length. She wouldn't listen and styled it into a long flip down on my shoulders. I had to ask her to re-cut it shorter, which she did, but it still wasn't the length I wanted. Next time I switched stylists and asked for a simple cut with bangs, tapered on the sides and longer at the back. I wound up with a complicated, severe cut with blunt layers on my face. NOT what I asked for. It looked stylish, but it was unflattering, made my hair look thinner, and was impossible for me to work with. I went back twice to get the layers on my face cleaned up, but it has taken months and months of growing out and they're still not gone. I won't be going back to Bradz. read more

Head stylist Tammy (I think) is extremely rude and I have seen her roll her eyes at her clients during introducing herself. Needless to say, you won't see a smile on her face EVER. Now onto Brad, if you have heard that Bradz has the highest turnover rate in Austin, you'd be correct, and for a good reason. I know people who used to work here and heard multiple complaints about their money and pay checks (such as everyone's checks bounced once, and they've had money missing out of their checks). He is snippy and rude to his employees (before letting them go without reason a few months later) and sometimes will push the stylist out of the way and start cutting/styling/whatever himself. This wouldn't be as bad if he had a license to do so, but he doesn't (which is highly illegal). Bad energy! Love this place. Schedule online + set prices + free bang trims + scalp massages = happy me! One of my pet peeves about getting my hair done is never knowing the price until the last minute, or even worse, being charged extra because you don't want to leave with wet hair! Trust me, that won't happen here. I am a student so I always opt for the "New Talent" option, and I have had a different stylist every time, but it's always been a great hair cut. Being an Aveda salon, they will try to sell you the products, but they're not pushy about it so if you don't want/need them, just say so. PS: I also have to compliment this salon on the friendly receptionists. I have stopped going to other salons in the past just because I felt like I couldn't talk to the receptionists to schedule an appointment without feeling intrusive. Go anywhere but here!!!! The staff is completely inexperienced and unknowledgable. I came in for a haircut/hi lite and there was NO one at the front desk to greet me. After waiting for a few minutes a girl stopped a haircut to help me. That's not even the worst part! After getting my color done, they put me in a little waiting room. I guess it was supposed to be relaxing but it wasn't! There seemed to be a break room up there bc the staff kept going in and out of a slidding door. I could tell they were eating in there and could hear them laughing and joking off. In another room is a salon chair were a girl was blow drying another persons hair. So loud! Then they bring a "foot soak"??? The tub was gross and already had a ring around it before I put my feet in - no thank you! Gross! Finally after what seemed to be an eternity someone came to get me for my haircut. The girl really seemed to be lost or something. She was confused about what time to get me. Then I had to walk down the most awful set of stairs known to mankind. I felt like I was going to fall down them, no railing on the top half. How is this even possible in the year 2014 for a place to have no railing on the steps???!!! After playing musical chairs, I got shampooed downstairs and more staff taking a break in the shampoo room and eating! Gross and loud. Not relaxing at all! I was completely unimpressed! The color and curt were way overpriced! $65 for a haircut!!! The girl didn't seem confident in her work but she kept talking about her personal life the whole time. It was an uneasy ending to the most unrelaxing salon experience ever! After getting home I noticed that the color was super brassy and looked like stripes all over my head. Even in the 90's this look was not cute! And my haircut looks really choppy. I wasted over $250 and it looks like I could've done a better job by myself at home! The owner took a long time to get back with me and asked me to "work a deal" with him?! Says he would give me some free products not to give them a poor review. I've been getting my hair cut at different places for my whole life, until Olivia at Bradz cut my hair. And now I'll never go anywhere else!! She always does EXACTLY what I ask for, and when I had her dye my hair back to my natural color, she did it literally perfectly. She matched it precisely to my roots. It was incredible! Just like her haircuts! If I say "one inch" she cuts one inch, not two and a half; I swear it's exactly one inch. Make an appointment with Olivia, and you'll be hooked, just like me. Thanks Olivia!! ***ASK FOR LAUREN!*** Seriously the best cut I have ever gotten! She took the time to do a consult and ask about my daily routines. I can't express enough how happy I am with my cut. I have gone to Bradz for a couple of years now.. At first, all I needed was a trim, so I figured it wasn't a huge deal who cut it. I chose the nice sixth street location and had a good stylist. She wasn't a perfect match for me, but since all I ever got was a trim, I was fine with it. When I found out she left, I was a little disappointed, but I felt relieved, because I could finally leave bradz. They put too much pressure on you to purchase products. It's certainly not unique to them, but their approach is irritating. They do this stupid bs conversation where the front desk person comes up and compliments you and asks the stylist what products they're using. Then when you go to pay, they have a basket of all of the products they used on you. A couple of times I have felt them to be very pushy. My second complaint is their stupid complimentary services that they push more products during.. It's not uncommon for them to--not offer-- but insist that you get a make-up touch up. Sorry, but I don't want a bunch of shit on my face that people stick their fingers in on a daily basis. Personally I am too fair skinned for their powder, and when they insist on putting it on me, I have to wipe it off when I get to my car, taking off my makeup along with it. They make it uncomfortable to say no. Another complimentary service I received was a hand treatment where they used the exfoliating salts and lotion on my hands. It was fine, but again, I wasn't asked if I wanted it, just whisked away to the (sales)person doing the service. During that experience, I was asked directly, "which item would you like to purchase? (salts, lotion, moisturizer or lip gloss" I was very uncomfortable. Now that the sixth street location is no longer Bradz, and I was told at one point, would completely sever ties with Bradz at some point, maybe Happy will calm the fuck down and stop pushing products like crazy. A recent trip to the original Bradz confirmed their practices are as bad as ever. The stylist was inattentive and the other employees are catty. It's not a place to receive great service, and definitely not a place to get a quality hair cut. My recommendation would be to save your money and time and look elsewhere. Personally, I'd rather go to a higher end salon and get my moneys worth. read more

I visited on a Saturday at 11am to get my hair colored and cut. The salon is in a cute house and was quite busy for a weekend day. Everyone works as a team and rotates. I had Malia color my hair, another person wash and then Harmony cut my hair. All did a fantastic job, despite the salon being busy. They make sure to pamper their clients by offering a foot bath while you wait for your color to process and also a hand massage when you get your hair washed. Lastly, after I got my hair cut, I was offered a cosmetics touchup. I can't think of any negatives to say about this salon.. I wasn't kept waiting and calling to make an appointment was quick and easy! THANKS! read more

Suzie is AWESOME. she did my waxing and my facial and was really good at distracting me and walking me through the waxing. the facial was so relaxing and refreshing. no pressure on buying products either. if i were staying in austin, i would definitely go back to visit her. i will visit her when i come back to austin. read more

This was my first aveda salon in Austin so I wasn't very sure who I was going to see, but I received assistance from three stylists. Deborah cut my hair, and has a very warm personality. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking for a new stylist. The colorist however is another story. She did not introduce herself, nor did she give me the opportunity to change into my smock. I got color on my hands, arms, and pants, which I wasn't very thrilled about. Fantastique! I went in about a month ago. Let's see it was 1pm on a Wednesday, could they fit me that day? Why yes of course! By 4pm, I was seated and getting a consult with the ever observant, detail oriented Harmony. I wanted it ALL LOPPED OFF and yesterday. So we did a mock up, she held up how much hair I would lose. Er well, uh maybe not! We settled on six inches. I went from stringy hair to a flippy flirty cut which everyone at work complimented me on the next day at work. Winning! Oh and Harmony spent like an hour and a half with me because she is a perfectionist. Brava Harmony! Oh and PS, the product you recommended for my fine hair, the Aveda Phomollient is AMAZING. I was finally able to take advantage of one of Bradz occasional 1/2 facial promotions and it was SO worth it -- it was worth FULL price. Kristin was really sweet and we ended up talking through the entire facial, but it was still relaxing.I'll definitely be back. I haven't had a regular salon/stylist in years and was in dire need of a real cut -- I needed advice on what to do with my long, straight, boring and unflattering hair (can't call it a style). Since I was already there for the facial, I asked if any of stylists might have an opening today -- being a Saturday, I figured it wouldn't happen. I was in luck as Lo (I think her last name was adams?) was free right after my facial. I explained my hair situation and needs -- and that I had no idea what to do with it -- and she immediately had a plan. She had great energy, was also super nice and even gave me some lessons on how to fix my new style in a few different ways. I booked another appointment in 6-weeks, which I haven't done in years. Honestly I really thought I was going to have a great experience at Bradz salon because I had been to Bradz new talent several times and been happy with their service. When a google offer came about to go to the regular Bradz salon I jumped at the chance. I really had a great experience getting a facial there. But my haircut experience was less than satisfactory. The girl that cut my hair was extremely rough with my hair. She was pulling my hair and litterally smacking my head with her hair brush as she blow dried my hair. Being timid, i hesitated to speak up and let her know that she need to be a lot gentler with my scalp! My hair cut was mediocre and my bangs turned out to be shorter than I wanted but the good thing is hair always grows back. Sadly I can't say that many good things about my experience at this salon. read more

Just moved back to Austin and was feeling kinda shaggy. On a friend's recommendation, I booked an appointment with Alexis. The haircut was great, but the service was spectacular! A shampoo before AND after the haircut made sure an itchy neck didn't drive me crazy; she also gave me a "mini men's facial, complete with hot towel. It was nice, but not really my thing. Overall, a 5 star experience, and Alexis is highly skilled and very welcoming. I'll be back for sure! read more
