I wish I could give 0 Stars! I do not recommend The Braiding House at all. I drove over an hour to this shop and spent more than 8 hours getting what I requested as tribal braids. I provided multiple reference photos and even brought my own human and synthetic hair. Despite that, the final result looked nothing like the style I asked for and was not done professionally. To make matters worse, I was required to pay before my hair was even finished, and I was never given a receipt, even after requesting one. I did not leave until after 4 AM, exhausted, after coming straight from work. The next day, I returned to the shop and even the manager/owner acknowledged that my hair did not look right. I requested a refund multiple times and was refused each time. Instead, they kept trying to get me to come back, even though I clearly stated I did not feel comfortable allowing them to redo my hair after that experience. I ended up having to pay out of pocket just to have the braids removed, Pay again to get my hair redone properly, Lose the money I spent on the hair I brought, since it could not be reused. There was also clear inconsistency in how they handled me. The shop accepts walk-ins daily, but once I raised a complaint, I was suddenly told I needed to schedule an appointment instead of being helped immediately. Overall, I lost time, money, and had to fix a service that should have been done correctly the first time. Poor professionalism, poor communication, and no accountability. I have been to the mondamin braiding house and it was a reasonable experience. My double stranded flat twists were really tight and itches alit afterward. I read the reviews for security location and I thought eehhh, I'll give em a try. The location is at security square mall. The back lot is #18, near the movie theatre. I walked in the back door from lot 18, and was immediately greeted, asked what service I want and seated. Shortly after that, Christian was just finishing up some knotless braids and she immediately started my hair. I was not uncomfortable, there was soft African music playing, And I actually fell asleep. I HAVE NEVER FELT COMFORTABLE ENOUGH IN A BRAIDING SALON TO FALL ASLEEP. I was comfortable in the chair as well. There were no distractions, everyone was masked and appropriately spaced, and my hair and scalp was not being pulled and pinched. This was an extraordinary experience. The ladies there were extremely professional. Ms Betty finished up my hair while Ms Christian started another person's knotless braids. The transition from one braider to the next was seamless. It's been three days and my hair is not tight nor is my scalp itchy. I even asked Ms Betty not to use the lighter on my hair and she did not. I've come to this place at least three times in the past. They charged $200 twice and $180 once for the same style. Today, I walked in (of course no one said hello even though everyone stares at you), I then noted a sign-in paper so I signed in. Maybe about 15 mins later, the lady asked me what style I wanted, I told her - then there was no additional conversation. Then, I sat there for at least an hour for them to tell me that it will be $220 for immediately below shoulder length Senegalese twists. This is more expensive for less. The previous twists were mid-back for $180-$200. The additional star is because the twists typically look good afterwards. Over the years I have had my hair braided here a few times before, I live in DC so it is not a quick drive to get there. I have had Tree braids done 2 time prior to this visit one with the hair they supplied and one with hair that I provided. This time I brought the hair I wanted to use because the hair they have kinked up and looked very bad within a week of it being installed. Well, the braider told me that she could not use the hair I provided and said that the only hair they have available was the hair that when previously installed looked a mess within day. Because I had traveled so far and had an event that I was attending that night, I let her put that hair in. Big mistake! within days I had a full bush. My daughter's hair (style: Goddess Faux Locs) was done at Security Square Mall on Saturday, December 8, 2018 and it was a hot mess! I reached out to them via Instagram and I sent them a video of how the ends of my hair was stuck together as well as unraveling. Too my surprise, I finally realize that the Marley hair was stretched that was being wrapped around the braid and it was NOT supposed to be. This was definitely a waste of $300. I walked into this salon today to have Kinky Twists installed after calling in for pricing the previous day. Two ladies worked on my hair from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM and when my hair was complete, I WAS PLEASED. I have to compliment both ladies that worked on my hair. The one that started my hair was fast and efficient. The other lady that assisted seemed to be struggling. Her twists were not consistent in appearance. When I mentioned it to her, she received my comment and consulted with her fellow stylist. She actually removed the noticeable different looking kinky twists and redid them. I loved that she was receptive to my dissatisfaction and was willing to fix it. She earned a star for that! My complaints with the salon varied. 1st: When I arrived, I needed to use the restroom. Needless to say it was rather gross. The walls were suppose to be white, but they were so dirty. There was soap, no paper towels, but I was so glad that there was toilet paper. 2nd: All the stylist were throwing the packages of hair on the floor and walking through the hair on the floor. I couldn't understand why they wouldn't use trash cans. No one swept the floor the entire time that I was there (4.5 hours). 3rd: I used a credit card for payment and was charged a $5 fee, but the fee could not be explained. Truth is--- I've come to this location on and off over the years. When my oldest daughter was younger I took her to get her braids done here. My experience recently was a horrible one. I walked in on a whim to get 7 French braids done. I showed the 1st young lady the picture and she said she could do it. This was 820am. I look at the clock at 1030a and she is still "trying" to get the first braid in. Is it that hard to do French braids in a braiding shop? DON'T just DON'T. Only 2 weeks of having my "knotless" braids and I have taken the edges out to redo them. Half are knotless and some are cornrowed first. Older lady who did the back did a terrible job. I requested several times for her to use jam on the ends of my 4B natural hair she refused that but thought it was okay that her braids look shabby and worn where the ends of my hair stopped in each braid. Hair looked 3 weeks old in the seat. She ended up cutting my freshly trimmed hair when she went back to clean up her mess. She complained that my hair was too thick.. didn't bother detangling the section before braiding and had attitude when I took it upon myself to comb a section of hair out and apply jam to my ends. I have done my hair and had to done before and it never looked this trash. They acted like they have never seen African hair before. Very bad customer service. This was my first time going to this location but I use to go to the Mondawmin location and I was always happy with the way my hair was braided. I went on a Friday for Spring Twist and I appreciate how spacious the salon is and the stylist started my hair upon my arrival. When she was finished with my hair of course she moussed it and when I looked in the mirror it looked nice (let me mention here that I gave her a nice tip). Upon getting home (by this time the mousse had dried) I could see that my hair was cut in all different lengths, the twist of the braid's was uneven, my real hair you could see was starting to unravel and my hair looked as if I got it done at somebody's kitchen table and not a professional salon. I called them to express my displeasure and went back in the next day. Of course they proceeded to tell me how the braids are supposed to look like this and when I refused to accept this (considering I have been wearing my hair in kinky twist for about 20 years or more) they all started speaking to each other in French (as if I didn't know they were talking about me). I told them that was very disrespectful and anything they felt the need to say speak it so everyone in the salon could understand especially me. Kudos to her However, the shop is absolutely disgusting. The tools that were used on my hair were filthy and were not sanitized. I called in advanced and confirmed walk-ins were accepted, I wasn't sure what time I would arrive so this worked perfectly for me versus making an appointment. I got Senegalese twists three weeks ago and now they're out. It sucks because I was so excited to get them. I got there little before 8am and was in a chair immediately. Was quoted $185 over the phone and then $200 once I was in the chair, I let it go. I told them that I wanted to be able to put my hair in a bun for work. And she said "Ok" I didn't get started right away because the lady that was braiding my hair was arguing with some of the other braiders in French. Once she started there was another lady that assisted, she was really sweet. The shop started getting crowded, the first girl I started with stopped my hair to do someone else's. The second lady literally did some large cornrows and also some dreads... Five and a half hours later I was finished. As the second lady dipped my hair and everything she said you can pay her (the first girl) as I'm getting the money out and my stuff together she says "Excuse me" with her hand out. I got annoyed because you don't have to be pushy I had every intention on paying her. That's just rude. As I get to my car and further examine my hair I noticed that the twists were started off as braids and then transitioned. I was mad at myself for not asking because I would've just gotten box braids if I knew they couldn't do them seamlessly as I expected. About a week or so later the hair along my nape got really loose. It was hanging and I didn't want it to pull my hair out so I took those out. My actual hair was peeking through the twists. It just looked so sloppy. My parts were horrible, I couldn't style my hair the way I wanted. People told me to go back and get them fixed but I opposed. I literally sat in there and watched them ignore a customer that received faux locs two days prior and they were unraveling. She just wanted them fixed. She didn't ask for her money back. Instead they kept ignoring her, speaking in French and taking customers. It was horrible. The twists were all different sizes.. some skinny, some chunky. I didn't notice until weeks later. Ohh Braiding House. I've been here about 5 times hoping it'd get better but it never does. This is a summary of all of my experiences. I've gotten box braids, Marley twists, French braids, Ghana braids, and faux locs from them. My faux locs were pretty good, but I can't remember the stylist's name and won't go back to ask lol. 1. They'll quote you one price over the phone but it will be completely different (more expensive) in person. 2. They will take your edges! Like even if you explain that you're tender-headed, or that you don't like having your hair combed with a fine-toothed comb, they'll do it anyway. Like after I got Ghana braids, a portion of my edges were gone. Not thin, GONE. I actually cried. 3. They complained about my hair, and were rude about it. Like I know my hair is thick and hard to tame, but the woman complained multiple times about it while doing my hair and almost refused me service. Ma'am, you're getting paid AND you raked through my hair with a blow dryer and a rat tail comb. You'll be okay. 4. The shop is FILTHY. Last time I went, I saw a mouse. The women in there were not phased so I'm assuming this is a common occurrence. Just find another shop. read more

Never in all my life of visiting braiding shops have I ever dealt with such unprofessional. In the evening, security locked all of the doors, except for employee only doors connected the back entrances. After asking to check if I was near the entrance, The stylist led me through the back and all the doors was locked. I was then told to check with security. I walked halfway around the mall and couldn't find him. She then pointed me to walk across the hall and try another hallway of back exits BY MYSELF. I tried several doors and had to again go back and ask for help. Begrudgingly, she came and found an open door in the back of the mall. In the dark, heat and rain I walked alone almost 15 minutes to the complete opposite side of the mall where my car was parked. Before walking I asked if there was anyway security could let me out the main entrance and why had I been told to park on the side that would be locked. She just said "Um ok, I don't know". The whole time walking half of my hair was still unbraided and sticking to my skin. When I finally drove to the right side I called twice and no one answered the phone. A random worker let me back in, the musty and dark entrance. It was very unnervingly and scary. No-one apologized or had anything to say. Also, the shop is very hot. There was one fan blowing back and forth. The little air that does hit you is half blocked by the braiders. In french (which I'm fluent in), the women braiding my hair made comments on its thickness and how tired they were because the time my appointment was set. It was very rude. They also argued over me with a women behind the counter on misappropriating receipts and money. Several times instead of asking me to move my head they just pushed it. By time I made my way back in after walking in the dark I just asked them to finish the braids and I cleaned them up myself at home. They had very passive aggressive attitudes and act annoyed by any questions you ask and the fact that you show up in the salon. For several minutes braiders complained about the number of customers and working all day. This place is extremely unprofessional and many of the women are rude. I never raised my voice, I paid the asked price and even planned to tip. If you value your money, time and SAFETY do not come to this shop. This past Saturday I went to the Braiding House for my second trip. WOW, the first time my first tree braid were install, it as fab. This time around they are AMAZING...I brought my own hair however, I purchased the wrong hair. Not only did they start to remove my braids on time but they stylist went with me to purchase my hair. First off they didn't have my normal hair color that I ALWAYS get and the hair was very terrible quality! Basically not normal braiding hair. She insisted that my hair Is jet black and correction it's not! Dark brown clearly. I'm a 1B. Moving forward she started on my hair and I should've known by the way the first braid looked hideous! I had two people working on my head and they both kept stopping to answer personal phone calls and to join in on conversations that were going on around them, so unprofessional. They weren't gentle at all, I am not satisfied with my braids, i've only had them in for 3 days and their a mess although i protect them. I'm never going here again, they do a horrible job! I'll stick to my usual braider. read more
