TL/DR: The poor professionalism and customer service of 3 specific stylists (names start with F, E, & R--with E clearly being a follower) on 3 separate occasions is not worth the mid hair result that you get & made me never want to go back here. I gave this place THREE separate chances, as I usually like to do a three strike rule for everything because I know everyone has a bad day here and there. However, after 3 separate appointments at Headline Hair Salon in Elkridge, MD I can confirm that the somewhat decent hair (6/10) is ultimately not worth having to deal with the EXTREMELY poor professionalism & customer service (punctuality, having one of the stylist's child run around/mess with the hair I bought for the service I was getting, talking on the phone/FaceTiming MULTIPLE different people throughout the services, talking about me in their language thinking I couldn't understand what they were saying, passive aggressive comments/actions, making faces to themselves or to other stylists when you ask for something to be fixed, I could really go on & on!) from some of the stylists. I'll be nice and not put the full names of the stylists I'm referring to, but all three times I had an appointment here I aimed to get a different person because of the previous experience, but still ended up with or near the person that worked on my hair the time before. Each time I left my appointment at this salon, I left feeling uncomfortable and shamed for speaking up on things I'd pointed out that I wanted fixed (mind you, I paid $400+ for the hair that I brought myself, so I make sure to confirm and remind them throughout the service of what I want when they'd clearly not do something I repeatedly asked for). And it sucks because some of the other stylists seemed nice so idk why I kept having to be around the same three people. The cherry on top is that the last two times I went here, I still had to go home and actually style my hair because I didn't want to be there any longer & couldn't trust them to do It. So I'd spend like 5+ hours at the salon just to spend the rest of my day fixing my hair to look how I'd requested when I was at the salon. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! read more

I've visited the salon 3 times each time leaving satisfied. My most recent visit was getting my hair braided before giving birth to my daughter. The salon is always kept neat with beauty/hair supplies up front and suites in the back. I feel prices are always reasonable (I am originally from NY), services are always completed within a reasonable time frame and the staff are always very personable. I have been coming to this salon for more than 14 years. Stylists come and go, so I decided years ago to work with Natalie the owner. When she is not there, other stylists have stepped in and done a good job. Natalie is incredibly professional, runs a good business from a customer perspective. Locations are always beautiful and comfortable. I don't usually have any problems. I have recommended many friends who have all had positive experiences. I bring my two daughters to other stylists. and I am usually happy with their hair. No place is perfect, this place is pretty close. I have no plans of taking my business elsewhere. I have mixed feelings about this salon. Been an occasional customer on and off over the past 5 years now. The main reason I give them repeat business is they are located really close to my home. And they do a fairly decent job in a timely manner (for the most part). But when I've had issues, they are terrible with accountability. Either they deflect with excuses/blaming elsewhere or don't acknowledge at all. Attitudes, even. Services are provided a la carte, so it can get pricey. Scheduling online is very easy but there are some serious glitches with the system they use (Fresha). Can't read when it states loc re twist so I went in there to talk to the lady at the desk. I just discovered Headline Hair Salon recently, apparently this location is new and just opened during COVID. The ambiance is amazing! Feels very luxurious. The staff is incredibly friendly and offered refreshments before and during my appointment. Jackie and Adrienne both serviced me and did a wonderful job on my hair! Headline Hair Salon is a very cute nicely decorated salon. I am fan of all the red. I would suggest that when you make your appointment you check out their website for details regarding hair stylists. Also when making appointment I would highly recommend discussing your hair texture. Everyone here is very nice and they sell and use Moroccan Oil products Yay. I quit about a week ago because I was over being short changed on almost every check like we all have bills and if I'm not being paid properly how can I do so ... I would have to go back and show the owner Mrs Natalie where mistakes were which she knew and she would continue to blame her assistant manger which was wrong because every week i would confirm all my times and hours with the assistant manger Bree at the time and I would see how much my check were supposed to be ! one check was shorten about 450 one time she rewrote the check because she knew she short changed me . than I walk into the salon one day and the owner is in back room screaming at here employee banging her fist on table and I was shocked because she's suppose to to be a women of business ! Than there a issues of my self and another employee with some health issues and she was wrongly terminated for being sick which is a health discrimination act! with my self I'm a type one diabetic and I was sick one evening and had to go to hospital and Mrs Natalie told co workers that she thought I was lying and I'm not really in hospital and so forth I sent evidence to her of a picture of me with an iv in my arm still no respond very incentive she doesn't show a care in the world about her workers what so ever and basically tried to fire me over being sick til we had a "talk " and she saw proof ! And this isn't the first time seeing this happen ! I visit Headline Salon once a month. I have been a client off and on for about three years and I love my stylist Natalie. I am always given compliments. All the girls are really nice and helpful. I would book ahead for appointment especially if you want to be seen on Friday and Saturday because it can be busy at times. The pricing is fair, but it is "a la carte" which I like. I started going to this salon out of the recommendation of a close family friend. I am so glad I did. Previous to going to this salon, I didn't know what it was like to go to a hair salon and have to wait 3-4 hours for my appointment with my double/triple booked stylist, kids running around laying all over the floor and terrible customer service. But this salon is the DIRECT OPPOSITE of a typical city hair salon. All the stylists are friendly, they honor the appointments not to mention that the salon is plush, without being gaudy. The ambience is amazing. Everytime I go get my hair done, I get compliments about how nice my hair looks. Now, if only I could not sweat it out by going to pilates. I partially agree with the previous poster, except I think we had different stylists. My first experience wasn't all that great. They called me the day before my appointment to confirm (fine). The next day they called me 2 hours before my appointment to see if I can come in a little early because they were having an "event" (irritating since I was at work, working). Long story short, when I showed up, my stylist bailed on me because of the said event (irritating). Someone else took me on and did not trim enough of my hair off and put way too much product on my hair and I wasn't feeling the style. I decided to give them a second chance, because maybe it's just me. The same person did my hair very recently and cut more off than I expected/wanted. I admit that I did want a "hair cut" at this point. I used to have 8 inches at the crown, I now have 3 inches. I wanted a bob with layers and showed her THREE pictures. Again, way too much product (grease??!!, I never use that stuff, it weighs my hair down). I hated the style and could not wrap it like I used to because it was stiff with products and too many curls that were flipped all over the place. In addition, it was so greasy and lifeless the next day that I had to wash it. I really wanted to like them. I think it would be awkward to try another stylist from that salon. read more

I came in on the morning of Aug 13th 2013 to schedule an appointment for later in the week. The woman that greeted me wasn't too friendly. I was there to schedule an appointment because my regular stylist was not available. However my interaction with the woman at the salon was so "icy" that I called back an hour later and cancelled my appointment and went in a different direction. I decided to try this salon because it was convenient to my work. I made an appointment a few weeks in advance yet I still had to wait over an hour to be seen. The staff was friendly. I asked for a simple cut-- I wanted to keep my layers and take two inches off. The stylist cut about half an inch off, which I was disappointed with. She did do a nice job curling and styling my hair. It was hard to tell while I was there that she cut so little off because of all the curl. I really should have gone back and asked for more to be taken off. They charged me $60 for my cut and style, which I think is too steep. Particularly because the website said $40 and I asked for only a cut. I also think the salon should be cleaner. read more

I'm a fairly new customer, I've been there three times and each time I've had Shy as my stylist. I've been natural for over 3 years and like many I'm very particular with whom I let lay hands on my head. Shy has always met my expectations and it's only because of her and Iona that I would return. Since I had two amazing experiences with Shy, I decided to bring my 16 year old daughter to get her hair done as well. She is also natural and has been wearing braids off and on for the past year, so her hair needed a little extra care. And of course Shy was up to the challenge, once Shy had washed and trimmed my daughter's hair, my daughter (being the typical teenager) changed her mind concerning the style that she wanted and asked for twists. Being ever so professional, Shy mentioned that doing twists wasn't her strong suit and she would ask another stylist Amy(I believe) if she would do the style. What I over heard during that conversation between stylists, was completely unbecoming and unprofessional. To put it nicely Amy is rude and inconsiderate. Amy absolutely refused to do the twists in my daughter's hair without raising the price outside of what is published on the website, so that she would make more money in the end. She also mentioned that my daughter's hair was too thick, basically inferring that her hair was to "nappy" for her to do.....really?? If I'm not mistaken, she's African and I'm sure trying to do her hair ain't a walk in the park, either. (I digress). I was completely offended. I had been in the shop for quite some time and I don't remember seeing Amy doing anyone's hair while I was there. It wasn't like doing my daughter's hair would take away from any clients because she didn't have any the entire 4 hours I was there. Shy spent at least 20 minutes attempting to convince Amy to perform this service. I'm happy Iona stepped up and said she would do the twists, because at that point, I wouldn't have let Amy spit in my daughters hair better yet touch it. Overall I have been pleased with the services I have received at this salon, however, there is no way I would ever refer anyone to Amy. Period. I started going to Headline about a year ago. Prior to that, I had bounced around a few different salons because I was consistently unhappy with services. Headline is the only place that got me to return on a consistent basis, specifically because of the stylist I see named Shyla. She is awesome! I am always pleased with her work, and I've done retouches on my relaxer, cut, wrap/set, style. It is convenient to schedule appointments, but walk-ins are welcome. I would suggest scheduling because it can get busy in there. I can't speak for the other stylists but Shyla is always professional, courteous, talkative and friendly (not icy, like I've read in reviews regarding other stylists) and gets the job done WELL! What a terrible experience- canceled appts, sloppy and poor service, a manicure that was so goopy it had to be removed as soon as I was home. A facial that consisted of a wet towel plopped on my face, followed by terrible smelling product poorly applied. while working on me, the stylist told me That she just turned a customer's hair fire engine red and was constantly going back and forth between me & the other woman (who, by the way, had to have four different hair treatments that day to try to correct the color!!!) The stylist wasn't at all worried about having messed up this woman's hair saying she was a regular customer so she'd be back . All of this took more than 2 hours. I seriously doubt the woman who worked on me was even licensed to do nails. In addition to all of this my first appointment was more than an hour late so I had to reschedule- my second appointment was rescheduled because they had "another customer who wanted to extend services". I found this place on yelp, reviewed the pictures and reviews so I decided to give it a try. (I was looking for a new stylist to add length, and color and smooth my hair). After a very long appointment- which is expected for the services I was requesting, I have to say I LOVED my stylist Natalie. My hair looked beautiful and I couldn't believe all the compliments I received in the last two week. I obviously decided to come back because she did such a lovely job. I like how there are not a lot of Mirrors every where so you can't see how ratchet you look when you walk in. But of course there is are 360 Mirror when they style your hair so you can examine the end result. read more

So, my rating is deceptive. For my actual stylist Shyla, I would rate her 5 stars, although she is frequently late for appointments, she is always kind, courteous, accommodating, and most importantly very good at what she does! She has become the stylist for all the women in my family and I happily recommend her to anyone seeking a new stylist! The women in my family are of all different ages with vastly different hair textures and lengths, both natural and relaxed, however Shyla makes our hair look great and recommends relevant reasonably priced products. HOWEVER, my rating of the overall establishment is around a 2.8-3. The upkeep is questionable and inconsistent. Some days its very clean and other days it isn't. Some days you call to make an appointment and the person answering the phone is friendly and helpful, sometimes they are unhelpful and inattentive. Though the white chairs are a nice thought, at this point they are filthy but no one seems to care. They began to charge an arbitrary additional $1 processing fee for card usage (credit/debit) which is irritating since this isn't a corner store charging for a bag of potato chips, it is a serious business making probably ~$60 per transaction. Simply silly and inconsiderate, so there's that. Which brings me to my next and last complaint. Previously they had a customer rewards program wherein you got a punch on your card for each $50 you spent in the the shop (including any purchased products) and after the 10th punch you received $50 off your next visit. Awesome right?! Not so anymore. you now have to spend $100 to get a punch on the card. $100?? So you're probably thinking no problem, I'll just take my friend/mom/aunt with me and pay for both so I get a punch. Nope. One card per person. So unless you are getting the works EACH TIME you go it would effectively take you about a year or possibly much more to use it. Which renders the whole idea irrelevant. Thanks. read more

I seen a young lady by the name of Amy slaying someone hair lol so I walked over and I immediately asked if she can do my hair....she was very nice and very pleasent she gave me alot of advice on how I should do my hair. I have had amazing results with my stylist Amy. As an Active Army Soldier for 23+ years and counting that has traveled the globe, I have had my share of good, and bad stylist, but I can say Amy surpass all stylist I have every had. She is the one stop stylist, that knows how to do all styles, from perm, to weave, to twist, braids, short hair, long hair, straight, to natural, color, there is nothing she cannot do. My teenage daughter and I get outstanding results. Amy has performed all styles in my hair. My daughter who is also natural benefit from the different, twist, and braids she constantly gets. After being with her for five years I have done it all. I started with perms, and transitioned to now being natural. I am constantly stopped on the streets asking where I get my hair done, and continue to refer multiple clients to Amy. My natural hair has flourished over the past three years, I believe because of her diligent care, and the education she provides when doing my hair. I went in Tuesday 12/6/16 for box braids and asked for Natalie because she had done a wonderful job on my braids before. When I arrived I had Ami. I showed her a picture and video of how Natalie did my hair and asked for as close to that as possible. Ami told me this service would cost 240. I asked her how when Natalie charged me 190 about two months ago for this exact style and I offered to show her my receipt (just so happens it was in my hair bag because I brought extra hair my previous visit). After listening in to a one sided phone call, she said she would match the price and Natalie must've given me a discount. I told her I didn't receive a discount and that I didn't know Natalie and had only been serviced by her once. She started on my hair and asked me if the braid size was ok. She proceeded to burn the end and keep going with the process (braid a few burn the ends). She braided TIGHT. When she finished I looked in the mirror and it was not at all what I showed her. The braids vary from 4 different sizes. I can't move some braids over to style because it would look like I'm bald. She already burned all the ends so if I asked for her to make them all the size I approved I wouldn't have had enough or not had any braiding hair left over. The hair in my head (money) would've been wasted because it was already burned. I will never come back in to see her. If they can't guarantee Natalie will braid my hair when I schedule I will find another salon to visit. My braids are way too big for my face, they look absolutely ridiculous with all these different sizes and it is clear that they are different sizes. read more
