We had a small surprise birthday party last night and we wanted outdoor dining so we decided to come here on the recommendation of a friend. It was a wonderful experience! The waitress was very busy yet she continued to check back with her tables every so often to see if we needed anything. Drinks came first. I got the Ship of Fools which was very tasty. Everyone had different drinks and seemed pleased with their choices. We ordered a variety of appetizers. I tried shrimp scampi and meatball. Both yummy. Others had fried calamari and a special of the night with breaded fried polenta, shrimp and fish with a spicy sauce. Everyone ate every bite! For dinner I got their lasagna which is different. It's braised which gives it a crispy noodle edge. It was also delicious and I liked the crispy noodle edge! Some got salads that were large and only complaint was they needed more dressing which our waitress brought out extra immediately upon request. Gnocchi also got a rave and review and lastly the pizzas got very high reviews and looked delicious. A very thin crispy crust with the right amount of toppings. No scrimping. They also allowed us to bring our own cake which they cut and served to us. Overall we had an excellent time with great service, drinks and food. I had not been to this location when we went earlier this month for a late dinner on a Friday night. The place was pretty empty so we got our choice of booths. We all ordered pizzas - mine was the Vespa with hot soppresetta sausage and was very good. My wife ordered the prosciutto pizza and it was so firey hot it was hard to eat. I like spicy stuff but this was crazy. There was no hint in the description that it was even a little spicy. Very odd. Also they no longer serve Amazing Grains salt bread - too bad! Impressed with this suburb find! We were not expecting it to be this good, so finding that they make their own cheeses - burrata, mozzarella - in house (as well as how tasty they are!) was a treat. The caparese app is a basic test for any Italian place and it was a fantastic. My colleague enjoyed his burrata too. I have been to this restaurant at least 30 Times pre and post covid. We went tonight and it was so ridiculous that it actually angered us. We sat down and noticed the menu looked different. We each ordered salads and the 1 pizza to split per our usual. We both chose the wedge salad we have had several times before. It was delivered and I literally exclaimed "Is this a joke?" It was literally 3 SMALL leaves of romaine with some toppings for $14. It was honestly a joke. I would expect this size portion to coat $7 not $14. The pizza was great as usual. Honestly - I would go there to have drinks and the bar and NOT eat. Another person got the fish special and said it wasn't so special. Average and pricey. It then took very long for our food to come out and the answers about the dishes we were given were incorrect. An example; She said the marbled potatoes were like scallop potatoes, they were in fact, burnt roasted whole mini potatoes covered in a disgusting lemon sauce. Then at the end they didn't tell us but added a large gratuity to the bill. We didn't see a notice for this and the waitress didn't bring it to our attention. Went for a night out with the wife and had a fantastic time. The ambience is perfect for a dinner for two. Nice booths, dim lighting and music that isn't overpowering. Nothing worse than going out a d having to scream at each other to hear. The meals were excellent! I had the Marco Polo chicken - grilled chicken topped with smoked Gouda and swimming in a cream sauce with pancetta (I think - very salty, ham like meat) and shrimp. It was a close call licking the plate clean . My wife had a brick oven pizza with sopressata and honey. It was incredible. I would highly recommend either dish! Going on the food, vibe and ambiance, I would give Branca five stars. Going on the rest of the experience (the 'tude, etc.), I would give it two stars, so I will meet in the middle. The leisurely pace is perfect for a "date night," just maybe not the first date... My impression of Branca is that the regulars have earned their way to service attentiveness. Once you get in (and I am guessing that means over a few visits) and buy a few bottles of wine, they will kiss your cheek, say hello, and whisk you to your table. If you didn't earn/buy your way in, no worries, you will still get excellent food. Branca was introduced to me by a friend who is a regular. I met him and another friend for a happy hour here, and was a little surprised that your only option is to sit at the busy, often packed bar. The hour was spent sitting sideways, trying to catch up, eat, and not knock the person next to us when we attempted to make eye contact. It was frustrating because a) the happy hour food specials are extremely delicious (risotto fritters and fried spaghetti are on point) and b) there are high tables right by the bar that are perfect to stay awhile but not accessible unless you walked in for dinner. I tried to forget the experience, but I couldn't forget the food. Flashforward to last Friday, when I returned with two friends for dinner. I had a reservation, but the place was packed, so we waited at the Branca bar. The cocktails were fun (pineapple rum and sea salt foam?? tropical!) and so was the bartender, but we ran into a problem when we needed a seat for our third friend (the bar was packed). Good news, we were going to get the high table by the bar! (heavy sarcasm, here). In the back of my mind was the question of why even have a reservation. There was an empty booth so we asked if we could have that instead. The hostess said that we were lucky because someone just went outside. Then she whispered to me "just a tip" that we really should get a reservation next time. The fact that I had to tell her that I had a reservation was disappointing. We ordered pizzas and gnocchi. The server was really excited in the beginning to give us the specials, then that excitement faded over time. We ended up being at Branca for 2 1/2 hours, mostly due to the fact that we were trying to find him again. I remember at one point, we asked for more bread (so fresh and delicious, but tiny). The request was almost not worth the reaction. The hesitancy was scary and then we didn't see him again for another 30 mins. TIP TO BRANCA: Get us free-loading bread eaters out quickly!! Free up that table, you know? The gnochhi with a gorgonzola sauce, asparagus and panchetta was simply heavenly. It's truly hard to screw up here (if it's even possible, I don't know). Great wait staff, a great renovation on the old Pizza kitchen that was here, great ambiance, volume level, you name it - it's great. I've been here several times, and always love it. Tonight a work group and I had the antipasti board, and for dinner I had their pizza special (first branca pizza for me - won't be the last). "You can just pay your bill and never come back."  That was the statement the bar manager made when I simply asked why my drinks were twice what they advertised.   My wife and I went to Branca Bushnell's Basin for HH and we sat at the bar.  Their cocktails were on HH and we found 2 that we were interested in.  Upon ordering we asked the bartender what liquor was in them and she shared their "well" liquor, which we expected.  We asked if we were able to substitute the well for a brand name alcohol to which the bartender said, "Yes, for an upcharge."  This was expected by us and fine by us.  The upcharge of $2-$4 is standard for all drinks at bars and we had no issue with this.  We proceeded to order these drinks throughout HH with the substituted alcohol. When our bill came it was twice what I expected.  The $6 HH drink with a $2 upcharge was billed at $14 with a $2 upcharge for a total of $16 instead of $8! I asked our bartender why and she was unsure so she sent the Bar Manager over.  She proceeded to share that it was because I, "didn't order the HH drink", that I "changed the drink and needed to be up-charged", and that by getting a different liquor I was ultimately "changing their recipe" for the drinks--even though the mix was exactly the same! She came out super aggressive right away with these statements when all I was asking was the "why" the severe change.  I followed up her responses with the statement that our drinks were charged the upcharge and we were fine with that but it was the same drink that was on the HH menu.  I told her nowhere does it say that the drinks with a different alcohol brand voids the price and that I've never had this happen anywhere before.  She proceeded to tell me I was told by the bartender that there would be an upcharge.  I told her she was right, my bartender, who was standing right there, did tell me there would be an upcharge, WHICH THEY CHARGED ME, but never said that you can't put a name brand alcohol in instead of well. She looked at me and said, "You can just pay your bill and never come back."  I was completely shocked.  From the first question to now she had zero customer service presence, was completely on the defensive, and ruined the name of Branca.  To be "the bar manager for 4 years" and to have literally zero ability to have a non-threatening conversation is not a good look.   Ultimately I feel as if her issue was a result of me exposing their scam to squeeze more money from customers.  A substitute of Bacardi for well rum is a standard charge in price but nowhere else does it eliminate or change the composition of the drink.  And if it does, then when you ask you should be told "no" or "any changes are not on HH".   Bottom line, we gave this restaurant/bar a chance and we will not again.  It's not based on the food or the drinks, it's based on the way people treat others, especially when you are in the customer service industry.  I didn't want anything for free and I was completely fine paying the upcharge.  But I did want to be treated with respect. We did take our bill to the "manager" who listened and said that's what the bar does.  But the manager did send the bill back to be adjusted to the HH plus $2 for the drinks.  We paid it and left. Just be careful ordering drinks from their bar.  Check your bill.  This bar has no qualms with cheating the customers in hopes of them not catching things. And to the bar manager, we will take your advice.  We paid our bill and we will never come back. read more

This place is a true gem. I visited a few years back on a work trip and I've been taking about this place ever since. Even though the food and drink were amazing, what made my experience sooo great was connecting with Chef Pasquale!! I walked in later in the evening on a completely random week night, sat at the bar and began chatting it up with the bar tender, who was really nice and informative. I ended up ordering a truffle pasta and a Milan mule, both of which were out of this world! As I came to the end of my meal an gentleman came from the back and had a seat near me at the bar. After we spent at least 10 or more minutes talking about our love for food, I learned that he was the head chef, at this point we were already friends! We must have spent another hour drinking and laughing and eating. I even had a chance to sample all of the in house cured meats! I'll post a few pics of my visit. Sadly, I haven't been back to Branca to enjoy the food or fellowship with my good friend since, however I truly hope to revisit soon. read more

The chicken is dry, the pasta is fine, the duck is more oily than desired, and the cost is high. But the creme brûlée was delicious, and the staff were very nice. It's probably a cool drinks spot (our drinks were pretty strong) if you're looking for a nice atmosphere. The bar chairs are metal and a bit uncomfortable, so you won't mind standing. I'll give it another shot in the event that our visit was an anomaly, but at this time I would not recommend for a business casual lunch. read more

Branca is a delightfully chic little Italian restaurant in the Bushnell Basin; an excellent place to meet for cocktails, a business lunch, or a quiet dinner. We've been there on many occasions and have always had a great experience. The atmosphere is quite lively and the whole establishment seems very inviting. The booths are very comfortable and private, while their outdoor seating is fantastic during the warmer months. The bar area seems to always be bustling and the service is extremely friendly and accommodating. We've enjoyed the entire menu and have found everything to be exceptionally delicious. If I had to recommend one thing it would be their house-made ricotta appetizer because it's so fantastic and unique to the restaurants in our area. Their pizzas are excellent, the pasta is incredible and all of the ingredients are as fresh as can be. Even the dessert selections are extraordinary. Three of us ordered the scallops for $38. - we received a plate of 3 scallops with tasteless pork rinds - that's it! 3 scallops for $38 - nothing else! My friend's chicken Milanese was overcooked! I had dinner with a friend here last night, after we made reservations to eat outdoors due to Delta variant concerns. I was unpleasantly surprised to see that the staff were not wearing masks and asked about it. The hostess told me they had stopped doing so in May. I have to wonder if the owner isn't keeping up with the news and protocols, or if he/she just doesn't care about staff and customers, or what. My friend and I debated about leaving but ended up staying, and our wonderful server was super good about staying distanced. We visited for dinner with friends out of town and overall the food was okay. Nothing spectacular. We ordered 2 appetizers, the Antipasti Board and the Roasted Garlic Al Metro. The board was what you would expect. The Roasted Garlic Al Metro was not what we thought it would be. The description says wood-fired pizza bread but that wouldn't be how we would have described what we got. It was pizza dough with globs of ricotta cheese on top. It would have been more enjoyable if there were other flavors or seasoning in the ricotta cheese. I ordered the Seared Lasagna. Again, just not my favorite. It is a tall lasagna that is cut into a sliver and pan seared. Now for me what this lasagna was missing was what the "pizza" bread had too much of - I missed the ricotta cheese. The other people weren't wowed with their menu options either. Service was good, atmosphere was appealing and it wasn't loud and it was perfect for use to enjoy a kid free conversation. The place and service is nice enough. They weren't the fastest, but acceptable. Not so happy with the food. The duck pasta didn't have any flavor, one of the pizzas was so spicy it was inedible, and other dishes didn't not make it to the list of memorable either, I.e. the Caesar salad was the smallest I have ever seen and felt like out of a bag. I don't believe that kitchen has a chef. Quick tip, when restaurants charge premium, it's not ok not to deliver premium. People don't mind to pay for what they get. This spot is a great addition to Bushnells Basin. I love love love their Neapolitan-style wood fired pizza. I've been a few different times for drinks at the bar, happy hour, and a full meal. I highly recommend making a reservation as the space is intimate so tables fill up fast as does the bar. I'm a huge fan of their head chef, Pasquale Sorrentino after I took a cooking class at Rosario Pino (everything truffle). The truffle thing translated over to the menu at Branca since he's a big proponent for this fungi in his food. So if you like truffles, this is your place. If you don't, it's time to get on board. Which leads me to share the must try pizza on the menu: the tartufata with black truffle sauce topped with pecarino, mozz and mushrooms. The dough is flavorful, with that right about of bite to it from the char of the woodfire oven. Even better when dipped in some of their herbed olive oil. I recommend ordering a bunch of things and sharing. Other must try items in my book: - Housemade ricotta -- creamy and velvety, paired with charred bread - Goat cheese salad -- simple, sharable, light, get some greens in ya - Tagliatelle with mushroom, squash, sage and truffle butter sauce -- what doesn't sound good about that? Very savory. - Bufala pizza -- buffalo mozzarella is just so rich and creamy, everything is instantly better in life after eating it. - French fries with truffe aioli -- handcut fries, perfectly golden brown - I've had a couple of their cocktails, many with Italian ingredients, but I will always opt for a glass of their prosecco, lately it's been the Avissi on the menu. - All of the pastas are homemade so can you really go wrong? New restaurant in Bushnell's Basin owned by the same people who owns the Revelry. It was pretty busy for a Monday night, even for a later dinner at 8pm. The vibe was a young professional, mature but still trendy, yet intimate setting. Since we had to wait a bit, we went over to the bar to try some cocktails. I got a Milan Mule, which was pretty good. The octopus appetizer we got was the star of the night. I had my reservations of getting octopus at a new restaurant, since it can get pretty rubbery if not done right. Glad I got it though, because it was tender, wonderfully juicy and piping hot. Best of all, topped with some pea tendrils. For the entree I got the Branzino in a "crazy water broth". I was craving fish and craving crazy, so why not! Again, the dish came out piping hot. The skin on the Branzino was perfectly crispy and on point. My friend had the gnocchi, which was decent. But I've never been a fan of gnocchi (too starchy for me) so I can't comment. For dessert we had a panna cotta with some berry sauce on top in a cute little mason jar. Disclaimer: The restaurant opened last week. This was my first time dining with Branca as they recently opened. When we walked up to the restaurant I wasn't sure if they were open. The door into the place is covered with a Branca glass door printing so it looked as if there was construction still going on inside. I opened the door and was greeted by a Branca professional. We walked up to the bar and grabbed a seat. There were 1 or two other small groups at the bar(which sits about 15-20). Ordering Drinks: After about a minute we were given waters and asked what drinks we wanted then given menus. I ordered my typical vodka tonic with a splash of St. Germain and she order a Blue Moon(at the time the draught beers were down due to the lines being inoperable, not a big deal we understand the process of opening a restaurant) so she order a Corona($6). My drink was a bit heavy on the St. Germain but still drinkable. Our Meals: It was roughly 3pm so we decided to look for a light meal. She selected a salad under the Antipasti E Insalate section of the menu. The salad: Insalata Ortolana e formaggio di capra (garden greens, local vegetables, goat cheese, balsamic vinaigrette). She added chicken for $6 bringing the salad total to $18. I was interested in the Risotto of the Day but were told because it was so late in the day it was likely to be sold out, which it was. I ordered the $12 Focaccia Vegetariana panini (summer vegetables, smoked scamorza, basil pesto, see photo). I subbed the fries out for a side salad and added goat cheese. The side salad said mixed greens but came out with only arugula. Thoughts on meals: Her salad was a bit small for $18 even the added chicken. The salad was tasty but not $18 tasty. She would not order it again. My "pinini" came on a house roll and seemed more like a sandwich cut if half..but over all very good. The vegetables seemed extremely fresh and the smoked scamorza cheese was delish! The cheese has a flavor similar to smoked gouda and a texture identical to grilled halloumi. The salad was good, I like arugula. Conclusion: Our total for lunch was a little over $40.00 which included 1 sandwich, 1 salad(add chicken), and 2 drinks. We had an average experience. The service was great. Very helpful and knowledge of the menu. The ambiance is soothing, very cool, new, hip, trendy, and classy. Our food we ordered was decent. I would suggest ordering a wood fired pizza or a pasta dish( I would be willing to bet those are AMZING but you will have to try and let me know). Our drinks were average at best. In the end, I'm not in a rush to trying it again, but eventually will, most likely for dinner. It's hard for me to say if Branca or The Revelry are my favorite. Being run by the same group of people, both restaurants are phenomenal establishments that employee amazing, personable & extremely talented employees. Here at Branca however, the food is more closely resembling a traditional Italian meal with an eclectic feel that is next to none in Rochester. The food here is so exquisite, that even my Nonna, straight off the boat from Sicily thinks it's just like a home-cooked meal to her! read more

EXCELLENT Italian Restaurant in Pittsford, NY! This is indeed as good as it gets. The decor is very classy, modern, Italian. Dark woods, comfy chairs and dimly lit. This place, despite the freezing temperatures outside, was very cozy inside. There is a great wine selection with a cool little wine closet open to the restaurant. There is a window with meats hanging and a table with cheeses and truffles on a table, giving it a very Italian feel. There is a very nice bar area with TVs so when with the family eating dinner, one can sneak a peak at the football scores. One of the highlights of the restaurant is the pizza oven. In the back is a 900° brick wood fired oven. The oven and the chef have been VPN (Vera Pizza Napoletana) certified, with the chef having been trained to operate this oven in a way consistent with the authentic pizza making tradition of Naples. They are one of two restaurants in the state of New York to have such a distinction. I ordered a house Cabernet, which was excellent. For an appetizer, we ordered a house cured samalmi and aged cheese plate, which doesn't begin to describe it. On the plate was a generous portion of prosciutto, mortadella, and salami. Also a couple different kinds of cheeses, a creamy chicken liver spread, a small dish of olives, onions and peppers in olive oil and an assortment of bread sticks and other thin, crunchy bruchetta style bread pieces. I feel like they WAY undersold this appetizer and were very generous with the amount of food they included, as we shared it with six people and everyone got to try everything. We also ordered the crispy calamari with sweet pepper sauce. The calamari had a light crispy batter on the outside and was soft and tender on the inside, accompanied by a sort of sweet pepper aioli sauce. For my entree, I ordered a NY strip steak special. It came over broccoli rape with a light caramelized glaze over the top. The dish also had garlic mashed potatoes and parsnips on the side. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was cooked to a pink center all the way through. The steak was huge and about 2 1/2 inches thick!! Very tender and juicy. My wife ordered the risotto with black truffles, porcini mushrooms and homemade Italian Sausage. It was incredible. The risotto was creamy and the white wine and mushroom flavors were infused to perfection. I should also note that the service was top notch. Our server was really friendly and new everything on the menu- from the wine to the details of the preparation of the food. He answered all of our questions and was on top of the service all night. They also had a staff of people that were helping. IE: when the water glasses got to the half way point, someone was right there with a refill. Next time I'm in Rochester- I WILL be back!! I love the quality of their pizza and the ambiance. They have a wood fired grill and their pizza always came piping hot and fragrant. However, I guess the price point is a little high for a neighborhood joint. It would be suitable for special occasion:) read more

Food was very good, from the appetizers to the main course and dessert. The waiter was extremely friendly, but it took him awhile to take our dinner order. I had the sea scallops, which was a special, and came over risotto. It was good and worth having again. The tiramusi was delicious! We split it among 4 of us, since we ordered so much for appetizers and dinner. Overall, the food was good and the atmosphere was very comfortable.
