Two stars, and that feels generous. My wife and I recently visited Bonnie and Clyde in Fairport as part of a group of eight, and we left disappointed. At $117 for the two of us, including tax and tip, we expected a lot more than we got. Let's start with the positives. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The building itself is a converted bank, and the old vault is a striking architectural feature, though we didn't dine in it. The restaurant also deserves credit for offering some vegan options, including one vegan entrée. That said, the issues outweighed the highlights considerably. The noise level was genuinely awful. We were at a table of eight and had trouble hearing each other. The space felt sparse and cold, not in a minimalist-chic way, but in an unfinished way. The whole "Bonnie and Clyde" theme has such strong possibilities it's a shame they didn't pursue them. The food was mediocre and overpriced. I ordered two vegan sides instead of an entrée: French fries and a roasted beet salad. I asked the waiter to prepare the fries vegan-style with just ketchup, but they arrived with two sides of non-vegan aioli anyway. The fries themselves were average. The beet salad was fine but small and forgettable. My wife ordered the king trumpet mushrooms, the only vegan entrée on the menu. The mushrooms were decent, nothing more. Her cocktail special, a kiwi and vodka drink, was watery and bland. A few other frustrations: the vegan items are not labeled as such on the menu, which is an easy fix that would doubtless help many diners. There is only one vegan entrée, which feels thin. And Lagunitas non-alcoholic beer is available, but you would never know it, since it does not appear on the drinks menu. We will not be returning. read more

This was our first time trying this restaurant, after one of our friends had told us about it. The fact the restaurant is in an old bank is so cool. Seeing all the ways in which they have kept the old bank theme brings out a nice ambiance. The service was very quick, and our servers were very attentive. We ordered the Bravas Potatoes and the Fried Chicken Sliders as our small plates. The potatoes were delicious! I was surprised when they came out with marinara sauce on them, but it meshed so well with the dish. The potatoes were cooked very well. The chipotle mayo was a really good finishing touch. The fried chicken sliders were sooo good! The chicken was so juicy, and fried just right. The bun had a good toast to it, and the pickles were nice and fresh. Both myself and my wife ordered the chicken fried steak with polenta and a sunny side up egg. To be frank, this dish was very disappointing. I won't put the polenta against them, because I have never been a polenta fan, but it was okay. The egg was cooked perfectly, but was a little salty. The chicken fried steak was so so salty. The breading tasted as if it had a whole bottle of salt in it. The gravy was also just okay. I decided to give the restaurant 3 stars just because of how disappointing the entree was. But on the flip side, the small plates were sooo good! My wife and I will be back to try this restaurant again, to try out some of their other foods. read more

Had an excellent time at Bonnie And Clyde in Fairport. Staff were attentive and friendly. Love the way they decorated this place! We had Jeremy as our waiter, he was fantastic! Easy going and knowledgeable, being our first time ever to Fairport let alone the restaurant. I asked for his advice on a cocktail for me and he hit the nail on the head (it was the 1st cocktail on the menu, can't remember the name but it was pink and refreshing). Next we ordered dill pickle fried green beans as an app. They came out hot and tasty. Next, I ordered the beet salad as my main which was amazing! So yummy! I came in with 3 girlfriends on a Saturday night and this place was packed! Definitely make a reservation if you can. We were quickly seated and greeted by our awesome server. I will say I felt bad for how loud he had to talk due to the acoustics of the building. We started off with a raw tuna special, french fries and scallops. Each dish was SO good. Seriously, I couldn't stop saying mmm with every bite. The scallops were like butter, melting in my mouth with a perfect crispy edge. The fries were really good with the 3 dipping sauces and the tuna was top notch. I ordered the steak and frites for my main. $40 but it came with a nice 12oz NY strip and a mound of fries. I saved the dipping sauces from the fry appetizer too. The steak was literally cooked perfectly and I ate every last bite. No steak sauce needed for that dish. The focus here is to share small plates but at $20 a plate for such small portions, it can really add up. So if portion & price are concerns for you then this is not the ideal spot For you. Parking and walking distance to building is convenient and free, but still very much much under construction with limited lighting and no signage on entrances in the back that can also be used (would be helpful to put some signs up). Food & Beverages: My companion and I decided to share an app and two small "shareable" plates. The waitstaff had mentioned the food comes out fast and he wasn't lying- it was very quick. The empanadas were our chosen appetizers, which came with three very small (Tostitos style) empanadas- odd numbers are always strange at a dinner. They were OK, but nothing we'd order again. For our two small "shareable" plates we decided to go with a Tuna special, which the waiter had said was "to die for!" and we also decided on the octopus plate as well. Tuna was nice, but unfortunately just wasn't very impressive, but what was impressive was the octopus plate- DELICIOUS!! Only one small to medium size charred tentacle leg was given, would recommend two- one was not enough to share- we both had two small bites and wished there was just little more (especially for the price). Drinks were good. Table was extremely small and didn't give enough room for the two of us to have our water, drink and a small plate each in front of us. Great concept for a place, but didn't really resonate or project a "Bonnie & Clyde" type feel- guess I was expecting a little more of the theme throughout the establishment. My husband and I ate here for the first time today for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere is really cool, showing some original charm of the building that was once a bank. The large windows allow for tons of natural light, giving it a bright feel. The menu has lots of elevated American style food. We were greeted by our waiters who were very nice and gave great recommendations. I ordered an espresso martini first. I am sad to say I was displeased with the drink and was unable to finish it. Normally, espresso martinis I have drank in the past have some milk in them and it is a bit sweeter. This drink had only the bitterness of the espresso and a strong alcohol flavor that do not taste good together. The orange juice, however, was very good. For starters, we had potatoes and fried chicken sliders. The potatoes were delicious with a great chipotle mayo drizzled on top. The friend chicken sliders were the highlight of the meal for me. They were fresh with the perfect amount of moisture and crunch. My main entree was very underwhelming. I ordered the chicken fried steak. The sauce had a very sweet flavor that was unexpected and the breading in the steak was so salty I was unable to finish it. The scrambled eggs I ordered with it were good. Very loud and voices echoed throughout. A long bar stretched across the length of the wall with plenty of bar stools. The seating near the bar is cramped very close to your neighbor. Small square tables, booths on one side and chairs across. It was a birthday celebration dinner. The waiter came and he was very expressionless. I like the outgoing welcoming warm hello, this was not the case. The food presentation was very beautiful, however the portions for the price were not. The sea bass was under cooked. The noise level was so high that we could barely hear each other across the table. I can't recommend this restaurant based on the staff, prices, and uncomfortable volume. On my first visit, the food was noticeably under-seasoned, though the service was excellent--our server was attentive, and both food and drinks arrived quickly. I later inquired about hosting a private event in their vault space. A key guest on our list follows a vegan diet for health reasons and I was surprised to learn they require a fixed menu for events--with no flexibility. Their policy is that if one guest needs a vegan option, then the entire menu must be vegan, which feels unnecessarily rigid and dismissive of individual dietary needs. When I asked if there was any room for compromise, the response was essentially, "Oh well." Given their unwillingness to accommodate reasonable dietary needs and the lackluster food, I can't recommend them at this time. I made ours several weeks in advance, understanding that it is a new restaurant, and chances are, it would be hard to get a table. I was glad that I did. Even though it was a holiday weekend, the restaurant was bustling. We were greeted by three gracious young women who took our names in the unique space. We were a bit early, and though our table was ready, we could grab a drink at the bar. The sleek, modern lines of the bar made the flow of guests to the bartenders easy. I could immediately tell there was thought behind how the bar was set up to accommodate the steady stream of people ordering drinks. The bartenders were giving personal attention to each of the guests. We ordered drinks from the curated cocktail menu - "The Teller" is a beautifully balanced cocktail, with Evan Williams Bonded Bourbon providing a rich backbone complemented by the soft sweetness of honey and Giffard Apricot Liqueur. Bright lemon and earthy molasses bitters tie it all together for a smooth, layered sip that's both refreshing and deeply satisfying, and the "Monkey Business" is a tropical delight, blending Ten To One White Rum with caramelized banana, coconut, pineapple, and lemon for a rich yet refreshingly bright flavor. It's smooth, playful, and captures the perfect island vibe in every sip. While waiting for our drinks, we could admire the sleek lines of this restored bank, with its modern touches and nods to days gone by. So a couple of friends and I decided to check out Bonnie and Clyde to see what the hype was about for this place. For one, there are no signs outside of the restaurant that say "Bonnie and Clyde". No signs of any kind at all to suggest a restaurant is there. I only knew where I was going because I used to bank at the location when my former bank was there (and I knew Bonnie and Clyde is in the bank building). At least invest in a sign. I think that's important for people to be able to find you. Anyway, the ambiance is ok. It's kind of loud in there but nothing unbearable and I was still able to talk to my friends without having to yell. Riesling selection could use some work. Espresso martini- DELICIOUS!! Now for the food, quite a disappointment. The lobster croquette was all potatoes. No lobster (nor the taste of lobster) anywhere in site. The chicken empanadas were good. The fois gras was definitely not good. Especially with the sweet jam component. It just didn't go well together. For entrees, there were some redemptions. The steak- give me more!!!! Delicious and not chewy at all. It almost melted in my mouth. I would go back only for the steak honestly. The Amish chicken was also good and juicy. Their bolognese though... maybe a touch on the dry side. Just a touch though. I love a good bolognese but this one was just ok. Now for the desserts.... Such a disappointment. The chocolate cake they had was so bitter tasting almost as though they used super dark chocolate and forgot to add some sugar to the batter to balance the bitterness out. It looked so good but definitely didn't have the taste to back it up. We did have the lemon chiffon cheesecake which was ok. Bonnie and Clyde is good for a nice hang out at the bar and grabbing a couple of drinks. But they can definitely use some more work on the food. But, the STEAK- don't change that! Huge fan of the Cub Room so super excited to check out Bonnie & Clyde. It was a mixed bag to be honest. The space itself is gorgeous, but very loud during peak bar times. It is quite hard to get the attention of the bar staff on a Friday night at 7:15pm. When the hostess came to get us from the bar, we were given a choice to sit on the bar side and opted to be seated on the opposite side of the restaurant. Also should noted that we were seated without menus, which added time to placing our order. Moving onto the bar, it was a little disappointing that there aren't any craft cocktails featuring tequila. Since the focus is on gin, we tried a few of those cocktails. The Cucumber Currency texture (I can't believe I'm using that word for a cocktail) was off-putting. Going in a completely different direction, I tried Monkey Business, which was an upscale version of an island drink. All of the flavors should work but it came off as flat? I then moved back to gin with the Negroni Bianco. This was the best of the drinks I ordered. My husband stuck the Cherry Cherry which is a solid version of a Manhattan. For dinner, since the large plates were standards from the old place, we decided to do a bunch of the small plates. Listing in order of favorite to least: Grouper Crudo special was perfection! Lovely dish. Stracciatella Cheese was fresh, creamy and delicious. Foie Gras Paté was lush but would have appreciated a small spoon or knife to assist with getting it out of the serving jar. It was awkward to share in its current presentation. The Braised Pork Copa was highly recommended by our server, but neither of us really thought this was rave worthy. It has interesting texture and it was nice to have some accompanying vegetables, but I don't think I would order this a second time The Empanadas were, frankly, disappointing. They were reminiscent of toaster oven frozen apps, to be honest. The filling was moist but the dough and finish wasn't spectacular. Since these were small plates, we ended up tacking on the Beef Cheek Ravioli to our order. This was an interesting dish but I'm glad we decided to split this as it really is something you only want a few bites of. Our server did tell us it was a very "sour sweet" dish, but it tasted more of red wine vinegar without a sweet counterpart.. I would love to try these ravioli in a different preparation, maybe more of saltimbocca style? We opted out of dessert. On the ride home, we both felt it was such a mixed experience. Host and bar service needs work but the table service was great. There are some really good dishes here and a few things that I would tell others to avoid. We will try it out again. Although, we agreed that this is a place we would return to a few times a year, but after visiting remember why we don't go there often. read more

If you've been to the Fairport Farmers market on Saturdays they use the same lot. All village owned. It was raining a bit when we went. The new design is very upscale and designed for bar dinning, small intimate, group or large group. Deuces next to 4 tops was smart. Long high back cushioned bench style on one side chairs across the table. This was my sister's birthday and a very special occasion for us. Head to the front for check in and seating. Smiles and special attention to seating us on time and with many choices. Hannah, our server, was going to guide us through the evening. She was the best. From cocktails to small plates, sharing plates, specials and entrees. We settled on a variety of cocktails from a perfect bourbon Manhattan, to a Kettle one dirty, Cosmo and a special Clarified Cosmo. No rush for our order, answered so many questions about menu choices and we really wanted to know how to proceed to enjoy our experience. Note if you really want to enjoy your evening get to know and understand what they are striving to achieve with their guests. The dinning vision! Hannah did a great job. For starters we shared Small Plates of Stracciatella Cheese and toasted baguettes, Beef Carpaccio sliced paper thin, Anahi Tuna special, a Braised Pork Copa. For entrees, large plates we shared, the homemade spaghetti Cacio Pepe, Amish Chicken, and a Shrimp Special over pasta. We did not want large heaping portions like all of the other restaurants around. Small portions, take your time, seasoned and prepared delicately and with a unique style. Hannah told us about the Vault and how they have a five course chefs dinner. Book it for 6-8 people. We will. Upstairs is additional seating or a place for a private party. Outside seating and walk up bar. Like where the drive up teller used to catch checks and take deposits. All in all an incredible dining experience. Our guests were thrilled. The drinks were delivered in a reasonable amount of time but it took about an hour and 10 minutes to get our food which was ridiculous. We both ordered pasta and were disappointed it didn't include bread. The food was good but we passed on dessert because of the wait. They apply a 3.5% surcharge if you pay by credit. The remodeled bank looked very nice but this was probably the noisiest restaurant we've ever visited. I assume it's because of the high ceilings. We went here for Father's Day brunch so my review is based on that menu. The venue is slick. Nice big windows everything is clean and streamlined. They have a large seating bench that breaks up the space into two sections bar view and non-bar view. I prefer a more dynamic environment so choice of seating is important for your dinner preference. We had the homemade pastrami hash and the seasonal frittata. Unfortunately both were underwhelming and under seasoned. So much potential to have this be a top tier dinner spot in Rochester but it fell flat. I think changing the executive chef could change the trajectory of this place! Good luck to B and C. Also i understand you can get a hamburger almost anywhere but you still have to offer one . otherwise you'll go down the path as the cub room. You are not eleven madison park . He did apologize for the delay in getting to our table but the service throughout the evening continued to be choppy at best. The acoustics were tough and it was very difficult to carry on a conversation. It felt that people were actually shouting at each other instead of conversing. As the restaurant started to empty out, it became much more pleasant. The appetizers are laughably small. Steak was.. Meh in every aspect. Low quality, which is disappointing with Skips being just a couple hundred feet away. We ate at Bonnie and Clyde and it was one of the best meals I've had out all year. They had a tuna crudo appetizer special that was so fresh and just melted in your mouth. The fried goat cheese was incredible. We had such a hard time choosing because everything on the menu looked so good! I took a risk ordering the bolognese as I tend to be very disappointed with restaurant bolognese, but this one was amazing. You could tell the pasta was made in house and the flavors were incredible. My husband got the chicken and it was so moist and a nice sized portion. The service was fast and attentive and the prices were surprisingly inexpensive for the quality. The ambiance was great, I've seen other reviews complaining about it being too loud but we went on a Friday night and I honestly didn't think it was any louder than any other restaurant would be. we had received a $100 gift card that was issued by Bonnie and Clyde and given to us, by friends who purchased it with a credit card. After a delicious meal, served by a friendly, knowledgeable servicer, we asked for the bill. We presented our gift card and paid for the remainder in cash, expecting change. The server returned to our table, informing us we were "short" several dollars, because the restaurant charges a fee whenever a "card" is used!! The "fee" was already paid by our friends and there would be no processing fee since it was a gift card generated by the restaurant itself!!! We explained this reasoning to our server, but apparently that is the POLICY. We did not argue, left a 20% PLUS tip and left, quite disgruntled. I consider this to be "double-dipping" I'm hoping this will be a cautionary tale to anyone considering buying a gift card from this establishment. Second time back and a bit disappointing. First time sat upstairs but next to the restroom. Second time downstairs in a crowded noisy uncomfortable tow if tables and a long straight back couch. You can hear people next to you so no privacy and can't hear the waitress. The tapas are really expensive for what you get. Not sure where they got the idea but not one chorizo, or meat, choice. White bean chorizo soup? Had the steak frittes, steak was over cooked, fries were over salted. Deserts were good . Service slow and you can't hear the waitress.
