It was just supposed to be a first check in/check up , but they recognized the urgency of my bunny's condition and decided to offer the tooth filing for that same appointment, rather than scheduling another followup for the next week. AND they even charged me way less money than what the estimate was for. They are rock solid and I'm so grateful. Most importantly, & I say this because I care about all animals, including yours, GET A SECOND OPINION. Dr. Pfann misses vital things & has misdiagnosed our animals. Because Dr. Pfann is local & he sees rabbits, we have brought all of our animals to him (2 dogs and 5 rabbits) over the last 10 years. Our overall experience has been that we have left his office with more QUESTIONS than answers. He is very vague in his diagnoses, & it's become clear that it's because he has no idea what's wrong with your animal or he thinks he knows, but unfortunately has been wrong too many times to count. In general, Dr. Pfann will do a minimal inspection, prescribe an antibiotic or painkiller (or something else basic that we've already been doing), & tell us to see how they go. He has told us that any further diagnostics would have to be done at UC Davis & would cost tens of thousands of dollars, so we should just follow his treatment plan. Sadly, we did & have deep regrets. When we DID opt for xrays, he had to send them off to someone else to read & interpret them. Vital things have been missed by both parties & we've lost animals as a result. Most recently, he was treating our bunny for what he said was an ear infection. She had stopped eating & appeared to be in pain. I had also asked him about Megacolon (during various visits) as her fecal pellets were misshapen, a common clue. He said he didn't think she had MC. Again, he prescribed antibiotics for her ear infection without doing a culture. When she went into stasis a second time, he said it wasn't her ear infection (that had cleared & to stop giving her antibiotics for it) but an issue with her cecum (her GI system) & he prescribed more antibiotics & painkillers. I asked again about MC & if she had a blockage & he said NO, she had neither. When she continued to be ill, not eating, low temp, etc., I decided to get a second opinion. We had lost too many animals because he didn't know the cause of things, or he didn't advise treating them, & instead he recommended euthanizing them. I took her to the bunny experts at Chabot Vet Clinic in Hayward & she was immediately diagnosed with a life-threatening blockage due to Megacolon. They were able to treat her for about a month, but the condition HE MISSED got so bad that she died. Had he recognized the symptoms of Megacolon 2 years earlier when I brought it up, had he diagnosed a blockage & treated her accordingly, had he not told us her ear infection was clear (it got so bad, she developed head tilt & couldn't move without falling & flailing) . . . Her outcome would have been VERY different & she may not have suffered as much as she did. I was warned about Dr. Pfann missing things with friends' bunnies when they were sick, but out of convenience & hope that it wouldn't happen to us, I stuck with Brandner. I will regret that for the rest of my life. I implore you to get a second opinion and/or make the trip to a renowned rabbit vet elsewhere. You won't get answers from Pfann. You will get prescriptions written and more questions, then lots of stress and eventually grief. If you DO decide to bring your bunny to him, PLEASE insist on thorough diagnostics, including blood work, a culture test, x-rays, an ultrasound, etc. and pay to have another vet interpret it all because he has been deadly wrong too many times. Your family members deserve more. read more

Brandner Veterinary Hospital has taken care of my dogs (Mickey and 2 previous dogs) for 29 years. My last sweet dog, Max, was diagnosed with leukemia by my friend's vet who was watching Max while I was on vacation. This doctor gave him 2 months to live! Dr. Pfann gave my Max almost 2 more years of a happy life thru non-invasive treatment, gentleness and compassionate care. I am so grateful for that. Dr. Pfann and Erin were wonderful with our dog, Mickey during his recent intestinal upset. The office staff are always very friendly, caring, and loving with my boy. I used to bring my pets here when I first came to town in the 80's and was a customer for about 20 years. My vet was Barry Santero, great guy and a fantastic vet. In the early 2000's it started getting difficult to get an appointment with a 4-6 week wait, they didn't fill the vacancy made by Santero. Tried to get an appt for both my dogs to have their teeth cleaned but was told to try again in the spring (6 months away) since their one guy who did oral surgery (Dr. Pfann) was "all booked up" thru the end of the year... Then, in 2018 my dog gets badly hurt at 2:00 in the afternoon on a weekday and I call to get him in, they say they're "all booked" up and they suggest I take him to the emergency vet in Rohnert Park(?) which I did after much gnashing, rending of the garments & bad words, WTH?! After that episode I didn't go back, I found another vet that was adequately staffed. Don't get me wrong - they're a great bunch at Brandner's, fantastic care and a dedicated staff and I sure hope things improved for their customers since then. I posted this because I know a few other folks who left because they were short of staff for so long. **If you're looking for a vet be sure to check on appointment availability, care delayed is care denied. read more

Thank you to Dr. Pfann I recommend any rabbit lover to this vet he took us in on a busy day first thing in the morning. My rabbit stopped eating in the night and we spent all night at the emergency vet who wasn't bad but just didn't know anything about rabbits. Well, we went to Brandner Veterinary Hospital and I loved how much he loves rabbits not only did they make sure of what was going on but be got on the floor with him and did an everything to make sure he was cared for. He told us what we could do but he doesn't feel it's necessary, and gave My bunny great care and to make sure we follow up on how he's doing. We still have a recovery but I couldn't be so much happier to see 3 poops in the box we need 30 but 3 is still good. I had taken her to another vet who supposedly knew rabbits but had a very disappointing experience. I took her to Brandner for a second opinion, and I'm so glad I did. Dr. Pfann obviously knows rabbits extremely well and I immediately felt like Lola was in the best hands. He gave her a much more thorough exam and detected some teeth irregularities (previous vet said her teeth were fine). He got down on the ground with Lola to observe her behavior, a gesture which told me that Dr. Pfann cares very much about his patients. Saddest part about this is the Dr is amazing! Absolutely hands down a very cool dude and great dr. After being a client here for many years and spending countless amounts of money on sick pets as we all do, I was informed within the last couple weeks that due to missing my last appointment I can no longer bring my pets here and I'm dropped as a client. When you're in crisis mode trying to get your animal in ANYWHERE post pandemic you're not even thinking straight, especially if their life is on the line. To say I was disappointed in this policy after being an amazing client in all the years prior would be an understatement. My cat was diagnosed with FIP and Leukemia and it was a rush to get her in the right hands and care. I've been taking my cats, dogs and rats to BVH for about 15 years I think. Most often my animals see Dr. Pfann. We have and have had a lot of animals so we are in there a lot! My cat and the dogs all get regular scheduled care including annual dentals. I have three Chihuahuas currently and they all have "Chihuahua mouth." BVH diagnosed and treated my senior cat over the years for a thyroid condition, pancreatitis, and most recently bone cancer. They boarded him couple couple of times for us. BVH has euthanized two of our beloved rats and my cat. In all cases the entire staff shows so much compassion and care. In fact they made donations to an animal charity in honor of a couple of our pets who have passed. Dr. Pfann helps us understand what is going on with an animal, costs associated with next steps and cost effective ways of diagnosing and/or treating. Anyone who has an animal knows how invaluable this service is. The women in the office are wonderful. The techs are wonderful. I feel there is a high level of competency and care at Brandner. They have jumped through hoops for me, they have squeezed us in when it was needed and possible. I have never left there feeling that something wasn't right or that they let me or my animal down. My family has been taking our cats and dogs to Brandner's for over 2 decades, and every single time, we have felt that our pets have been taken care of with highest level of care! Most recently, my 19-year-old cat was in kidney failure and at the end of her life. The staff at Brandner's could not have been more helpful and supportive! Dr. Pfann is THE vet to see at the office...he has taken care of every single one of our pets, and he was especially great with my cat. He advocated for trying everything we could for her...from diet changes, to medications, to me administering fluids to her at home on a regular basis. I could not be more thankful to Dr. Pfann and the staff for doing everything they could to help me through this difficult process. I recently moved to the area and chose Brandner based on these reviews. I took our dog in for severely swollen and bloodshot eyes. The vet barely looked at the dog, and stated it was kennel cough. Then asked if the dog had been around other dogs. The dog hadn't been around any other animals in weeks. The vet then said it must just be allergies. He never actually even looked at his eyes. He prescribed some eyedrops and Benadryl. I should have trusted my instincts at that point and taking him somewhere else for a second opinion, but I made the assumption the vet knew what was best for my pet. Within three days my dog was completely blind. When I took my dog to another veterinarian, they immediately ran a wide range of tests and determined the dog has Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Which is potentially deadly, especially if not treated within the first five days. The lackadaisical manner in which Branbner Veterinary assessed and diagnosed my dog may have closed the window of opportunity for my pet to be able to recover. At this point I have no clear indication of what the life expectancy will be for my four-year-old dog, but I do know I would not recommend anyone take their pet to this veterinarian. read more

Brandner Veterinary is the best! They can always find a time that fits into my hectic schedule to fit my pups in and you can tell that they are dog savvy, especially with my shelter rescue boy who tends to be anxious with strangers and has a tendency to growl in a menacing way. The front staff never blinks an eye and appropriately ignores him and makes their interactions quick, while I distract him with their provided treats. I've seen both Dr. Santero and Dr. Pfann and both are knowledgeable and personable. Another aspect I also like about them is that they are not quick to prescribe a lot of medications, something that I was worried about with my allergy prone retriever mix. All of the ladies at the front desk are always happy and a pleasure to talk to, including but not limited to, Serena and Melody! I even convinced my boyfriend to switch his "princess" to Brandner after she broke out in a bad case of hives. He was so surprised by the quickness at getting her an immediate appointment and the reasonable price they charge for the office visit + medications was only around $75, compared to the $90+ he paid before at her old vet. read more

After an excruciating horrible experience with Central Marin Cat & Exotic Hospital (see review I posted on 10/16/12) my mom brought her beloved Tick in to Brandner Veterinary Hospital on the recommendation of a friend. Given the horrible circumstances of which our family was brought to Brandner, we could not be happier with our experience. The staff was ethical, caring, understand and actually waived fees for us because of Central Marin Cat & Exotic's incompetence. How many places do that!? They x-ray'd Tick and confirmed what our family had feared. In fact, it was this hospital that couldn't believe Central Marin would even think TIck's x-ray's showed pneumonia, or anything other than the cancer it was. When the time comes for my mom to adopt a new four legged friend she will exclusively bring him or her to Brander Veterinary. read more

This is the first time in 11 years that I had to write a bad review the service was heavily discriminating towards my mother who's fighting for her life with stage 4 breast cancer refused to see our dog Regan who's been going their for 11 years now. Obviously the management has changed cause I was never met with hostility before, during our phone conversation with one of the vets on 2/12/21... I've been told previously that if Reagan was up-to-date with his shots and up-to-date with his yearly exam and given a certificate of both and I owe no money that they could phone in a prescription for his ears which he has seen this doctor for in the past. When I complied and did all the things that they were asking of me to do they refused to give him any medication also refused to see him and they hang up on me before referring me to someone else. I thought vets were about animals this place obviously does not care about animals and the next day sent me a certified letter when I live right across the street saying " they won't never see me again" cause I was upset That I followed their policy and they did not after 11 loyal years to them of being a customer sending me a certified LETTER SAYING " WONT NEVER SEE ME AGAIN" ????!!!! takes me back to my original point that Being a person of color is not look with kind eyes any longer at Breander Hospital. Yet I can still hear them snickering when I walk my dog in the evening time. How bad it is to be face with that awkward situation that they created themselves. read more

Bradner Vet Hospital is the best! It's no secret either---show up on an afternoon and the waiting room will be full---everyone who's pet is more than just a pet---more like a member of their family----will take them here! The doctors are amazing! They are very compassionate and very very experienced. They don't try to recommend everything possible in an effort to squeeze every last penny out of you. They are fair and honest and make their recommendations and work with you and your budget. After my dog had some vaccinations and other treatments, the office followed up the next day with a phone call to check on my dog to see how she was doing and make sure everything was going well. They really care about their patients! I've been going here for years and wouldn't trust anyone else with my pets. The girls in the front office are awesome too! They are so polite, yet personable, and are so nice and professional! Tori and Serena are my favorites---but they are all super nice and great to work with! I know there are the vet techs who work in back, behind the scenes---and they are awesome too! When I bring in my Frenchie to have her anal glands suppressed, they take her in back, perform the procedure, and then she is back in a jiffy, and she's clean and happy and you'de never know what went on behind closed doors! They are so gentle and take such good care of their patients! Don't try to save a few $$ by going to a clinic. With Bradner, you get what you pay for and their office is clean and they will treat your pet like it was their own. They all have such a strong love of animals and it is evident from the moment you walk in there. I highly recommend this office if you don't go here already! The doctors are fantastic, as is their staff. Don't try to save a couple of $$$ by taking your pet to a clinic---- such as the Aezr clininc. That place has got to be the most filthiest place in town and Dr. Zamora (if he even is a doctor) is rough with the animals, and is nasty, filthy, dirty, and a very unprofessional perv. Thinking of Aezr makes my stomach turn --- stay away from places like that! Stick to Bradner. They've been around for years and for a very good reason!!! read more

We recently got a schipperke puppy and have been taking him to Brandner for all his puppy needs. They offer a puppy pack that includes all the normal vaccines and office visits for a pretty good deal, which we got for our little dude. Everyone on staff here is great, the doctors, the front desk, and assistants. They really genuinely care about their patients and their humans. Schipperkes can have a rare autoimmune disorder we had questions about. Dr. Santero researched it for us, and found a lab that tests specifically for it and sent a blood sample for us. I certainly feel he went above and beyond the call of duty. I get nice reminder calls before every visit and a call following to check up on the pup. I have been to a lot of vetraniarians, as I've moved around a bit over the last few years and the folks at Brandner are truly top notch. read more

We have used brandner for our cats for over 35 years. That's a lot of cats. They always take the time to listen and have the pet's welfare in mind. Dr. Pfann, the owner, is very personable and dr. Castro, whom I've seen lately, is really interested in serving the customer. Recently I brought my ten-year-old cat in for a bad infection. Not only did they recommend a more inexpensive treatment since I'm comfortable giving meds to my cat, they now have a follow-up by text service that allows me to update them on his condition, and ask questions. The only problem right now is that they are so busy I can't get same-day appointments. read more

I have gone to Dr Pfann for over 15 yrs with my companion, foster rabbits. I would say for many yrs he was top notch, but that ship has sailed. After Barry retired, I saw a real decline in his diagnostics skills, clinical skills and heart. Same with staff. I'm sorry to see, him listed as a House Rabbit Society vet; there "are" Several good rabbit vets in Sonoma County. He won't own his mistakes, he listens, but does not "hear" and diagnosis and/ or behavioral symptoms has to always be HIS idea, or they're not valued. He doesn't own his mistakes, his misdiagnosis. This last experience with parting with my beloved companion rabbit, Stanley, was an experience from hell.. he was in a big rush, made it obvious he had better things to do, ..as a Senior, 72 yrs old, after losing your beloved pet, you would have thought "at least" one staff member in that hospital would have acknowledged my loss. Not one! I have fostered animals all my life, and have had many vets and many dealings, and of course, sadly had to say good bye to many over the yrs. Thankfully, I've always had sensitive And compassionate vets. What I went thru with was unconscionable. read more

As, for the veterinarians' knowledge and interactions with their patients and owners... I have nothing to complain about. As for a front office staff member named Chelsea (if I remember correctly), she gives the Vet office itself a bad name, she is completely unprofessional and does to have the personal skills needed to interact with the customers. They were unable to see my very sick rabbit who is and established patients and I called EVERYWHERE and couldn't find anyone to see him... later that day he died in my arms writhing in pain. I tried calling the vet office back to try to understand why they couldn't at least give him pain meds so he would die peacefully and she began to become argumentative with me, wouldn't listen, and hung up. I thought it was an accident so I called back and she said it was no accident. I tried to explain to her that she could have at least told me she was hanging up, so she said goodbye and hung up again. The next day I tried to contact her again to maybe work things out and explain from a grieving pet owner's perspective what she could have done differently. Instead of listening she argued again, said the vet would NEVER see my pets again, and hung up. I will be trying to reach out to her supervisor or even the vet to inform them of her actions. It is not her business that she is giving abad name. Her actions came across as unprofessional, argumentative and worst of all unsympathetic. I hope she learns how to interact with grieving pet owners in a healthier way. read more

Brandner used to be 5-star, but since Dr. Santero has retired it's really gone downhill. I've been taking my dog here for 11 years and it's unfortunate that I'm having to switch but that's what I'm going to do. I like Dr. Pfann but we've been assigned to the other doctors when we go now. The other reason for my switch is that the current office staff is incompetent and unprofessional. There used to be a gal that worked in the office named Sarina, she had excellent customer service skills both in-person and on the phone, the current office staff should take a page out of Sarina's book. read more
