We've loved the care we've received from Central Animal hospital. Both the office staff and medical team have gone above and beyond to be helpful, caring, thoughtful, and gentle for our puppy. When he wasn't feeling well after his second vaccinations, they encouraged us to come in for a checkup that was included in our puppy plan--free, and made space for us just two hours later. How many businesses encourage you to come in for a free checkup when they already have your money, and on such short notice? It made me feel like Central Animal Hospital is more than a great local business, it's a good place with kind and capable people really care for their patients.

A very clean office and friendly staff and doctor! Dr. Atkin patiently answered all the questions I had as a first time cat owner. They graciously and gently dealt with my wild, but sweet, cat who tried to make a run for it as soon as his carrier was opened. It's totally understandable why we can't go in the back with our animals right now, I don't get why people take issue with this and complain about it in reviews. We're all just doing our best right now during this pandemic and I think Central Animal Hospital is caring for Petaluma's animals well and keeping everyone safe at the same time!

Dr. Woltz and the Central Animal Hospital staff are wonderful. We have been taking Mickey to Central Animal Hospital for a number of years -- it's about time we left a review! While Mickey is not always thrilled to be visiting the vet, he has calmed down significantly over the years. We think a big part of that is because of how welcoming and kind Central Animal Hospital has been to us -- or maybe he just likes to collect more compliments with extra treats! Unfortunately, it's tough to ask him! Dr. Woltz is always very thorough and takes the time to explain exactly what he's doing as well as why he's doing it. Additionally, no question is too silly for him. He always makes us feel at ease when we bring Mickey in for regular check-ups or for the one-off visits like today when his paw was bothering him. We never hesitate to reach out to Central Animal Hospital when we worry and Dr. Woltz always knows what to do. Finally, it's worth noting that when we have to board Mickey, which is very rare, we know he is in excellent hands here. He still gets annoyed with us when we pick him up, but we know he was well taken care of while we were away. We cannot thank you enough for your kindness, Central Animal Hospital. For anyone reading this, please don't hesitate to try them!

My cat came home from Cat Fight Club with a weepy eye. I called Central Animal Hospital on a Saturday morning, and they fit us right in. They even called and asked me to come in earlier, when they realized they had room in the schedule, since eye injuries are time sensitive. Rebecca, one of the Vet Techs, was able to scoop my cat right out of her carrier, despite the fact that my cat becomes positively murderous at the vet. The fact that she didn't pull back a bloody stump proves that Rebecca is good at what she does. Rebecca and the vet, Lindsay (whose last name is escaping me), laid everything out for me, including treatment options and a cost ballpark. And they did not imply that I was a bad cat owner for not being ready to spend hundreds of extra dollars on recommended blood work and shots not associated with the weeping eye today. They ended up having to sedate her, because the honeymoon only lasted until they tried to begin the exam, but I fully expected that. The icing on the cake was my book was $200 less than I thought it would be, since they didn't see any signs of injury, so they didn't do everything they said they may need to do. I really appreciated that, because I've been to vets where they seem to want to do every test or procedure possible, and felt like they were just trying to run the bill up. This was our first visit to Central Animal Hospital, and the care and customer service we received definitely earned our repeat business.

She is always a wealth of knowledge and I really appreciate her attitude and perspective. I never feel rushed or like any single one of my concerns isn't addressed. She has given me some great suggestions and advice, and she offers helpful insight and a kind approach to helping you care for your pet's health and wellness. Everyone in this office is friendly and helpful, every single person who's worked the front desk or helped me on the phone, all of the techs, and every veterinarian who has helped us in the past. They are really great with my dog and always kind to me no matter how busy they are. I really appreciate the entire staff because no one wants to take their pet to the vet, but they make it less of a drag here and they run a smooth operation from online bookings to the online pharmacy and offering me digital invoices/receipts after each visit that I always receive immediately. There's almost never a wait and the appointments start on time. So they also respect your time as well and I personally don't think I've ever waited more than five minutes even on the absolute busiest and most crowded days. My dog hasn't always been the easiest for them to work with but with their help, she has become so much less fearful of the vet's office. She's really shown so much growth coming here over the years. Thank you to Washington Square Vet for always being available for any of our pup's health concerns, and I feel lucky to have you as our trusted vet's office for many years and for many more years to come.

They would do nice things like leaving special diet cat food on the porch so that I could pick it up after work, and they would add the cost to our next bill. They would also make a point to us that they appreciated that we paid our bills in a timely fashion. Nice. All that has changed. I just got off the phone with them. I was trying to make an appointment for a check up so they could resend Leo's prescription. They found an opening for us for the very next day. Cool. Well, apparently they have a new policy that they need a $50 deposit just to make the appointment. I don't at this moment have $50 to spare but I explained to them that I just deposited a large check and that funds would be available tomorrow. I also reminded them that we have been long time customers and that we have a good record paying our bill and asked them that since this was a new policy and we were all paid up if they could just give me a pass this time and I would bring them cash tomorrow at the appointment. The receptionist put me on hold. The second woman I spoke with said to me, a good customer for 14 years, no. She said she wanted to backup her receptionist rather than accommodating a long time customer. I then told her that she was forcing me to go to another vet and that I would rather stay with them as my cats have been going there almost their whole lives. (They are 18) She then told me, that was fine with her. Over the years we have spent thousands of dollars at PCH. No more. I fired them and now we go to another vet. It didn't have to be that way.

It cost me $564 to have them do two exams on my two cats, one set of shots, and flea medication. This is much higher than any vet I've used in the area. On top of that, this bill is after fending off constant upselling on the part of the vet. She couldn't tell me what was wrong with my elderly cat because, despite a $90+ exam, she needed to do a full panel of blood work to even guess why the cat is acting a little low-energy (he's 17 years old). Despite being unable to diagnose anything with my cat, she suggested I get him a monthly shot that "some people" feel helps elderly animals with arthritis. When she told me that, I watched her write $170 on my chart, as if she was calculating how much money she could get from these shots every month. Also, she said she couldn't tell for sure if the cat has arthritis or not. Likewise, when she learned my younger cat's vaccines were out of date, she told me she would have to start the whole thing over and that I would have to take the cat in AGAIN in 6 weeks for boosters. When I pushed back on this, she dropped it and gave the cat his shots. This isn't the first time she has done this. When my cat had an abscess in the past, she used it as an excuse to send me home with bags of medications, bandages, a cat collar... all for a fairly routine and not serious injury. It truly feels like a car salesman trying to add expensive seat warmers or stereo upgrades I don't want. It makes it so I can't trust anything she says. I was also shamed by this woman. She scolded me repeatedly for letting vaccines lapse and not coming to see her sooner, even though the last few years have been really hard on my family (unemployment, deaths in the family etc) and bringing healthy cats into the vet wasn't a priority. Here I was trying to catch up on the lapse and I was told how negligent I am as a pet owner. She also discovered one of my cats had a flea and acted like it was the most disgusting thing she'd ever seen and told me *three times* how I was going to have to clean my whole house. She was in the middle of telling my how quickly fleas breed before I asked her to please stop. It was way over the top and felt designed to make me feel like a filthy person because the cat had a flea. This is ironic because the office is feeling really dingy these days. There was also a toxic atmosphere between this vet and her underlings, and they passive-aggressively bickered in front of me. The assistant also gripped my cat in such an uncomfortable, harsh way during the exam that I intervened and told her I would hold the cat instead. It wasn't hurting the cat, but it was intrusive and was adding stress to an already upsetting situation for the animal. Overall I think this is a vet to avoid.
