Called them up for a smog check and was told I could get in and out if I brought the car in. Usually you can't get quality, price and service but here you can. There is no way anyone else in San Diego can touch their smog prices (including any other spot on Miramar). Great experience. Would definitely consider them for repair work, as well. The second time, was to get a transmission repaired and it was also one of the cheapest place to get this done. first impression of this place: sweet, it's cheaper than Lo Sieu Smog Test Only Center next door! there was no one at the counter so i talked to one of the workers, who quoted me a $15.95 price for smog check. of course i knew that didn't include certificate / fees, so he said it would total to be about ~$27. still cheaper than Lo Sieu Smog next door at ~$36, so I let them have my business. the original guy i talked to was busy so he brought in another guy at the counter to help me. i guess he tried to get a couple extra dollars out of me, quoting me a higher price than what the original guy quoted. of course i told him my price, and he tried to cover it up by asking if i had a "coupon" that brought the price down. i thought, whatever, i get this done once every two years, i'll let it slide. it took about 30-45 minutes for the smog check. when they came to collect me from the waiting area (they actually share it with Lo Sieu Smog next door which is kinda weird), the up selling that Albert W. mentioned in his review began. apparently my driving belt had "cracks" in it. i went to check it out. i saw the tiniest hairline cracks, maybe one or two of them. they kept insisting that i replace it, telling me, don't worry, its cheap, it's just $85! who knows what else they would have tried to up sell me if i had agreed. google'd it later and apparently a few tiny cracks are normal with age. needless to say, the smog check price was all right. i experience a fair amount of up selling being a girl anyway, so i feel it is commonplace and endure it. since its not anything that you do often, i'd say this place is all right for a drop-in. i wouldn't avoid it, but i also wouldn't go out of my way for it either. read more

Stay away from this place. They failed my car because they said the gas cap didn't fit properly. I sarcastically reminded the tech that it was the same gas cap I bought from THEIR other shop next door when they failed the car 2 years prior for the wrong gas cap. So let me make this clear. The car passed the emissions test BUT failed the "visual" test for having the wrong type of gas cap. A gas cap that was supplied by THEM. read more

Finally, a SMOG Shop that knows what they are doing. Fair and Honest and Knowledgeable is the best way to describe Brandon's Shop. He was recommended by Carlsbad Jaguar for my BMW Smog check. They diagnosed the problem, then fixed the bad sensors and tested it for SMOG. My car is 17 years old so I expected a few things were worn out. Don't want to fix your car- then lease a new one. But don't complain. PS Hot Tip - Google the "Drive Cycle" for your year and model car before you test the car after having it repaired. read more

Very frustrating experience. I needed some brake pads changed so I called Brandon Tires, spoke to Jason and made an appointment for the following day. We agreed on a price and I was told the job would take 2 hours. I'm still sitting in the waiting area over 3 hours later and the job is not close to finished. To me, time is money. If you can't give your customers a reasonable time estimate for your work (or communicate properly in general), you shouldn't be working the phones/front desk. If your business is too busy, you should either not make appointments or tell customers to go somewhere else. I feel misled and lied to. I will not be coming back here. read more

Had my car towed there after my car broke down on me after work. The good Jason stayed late until the tow truck got there. Next day Jason said it was the mass air sensor. The bad news he took advantage of the situation charging me $350 for a new sensor and $95 for labor. Its a $250 part at Napa and $10 labor to remove 4 bolts and replace the part. I appreciate that you waited over 30 mins the night before but over charging me $200 for the repair will not retain my customer loyalty. If you need emergency service use Brandon but pricey. If you want fair prices and some one who works to retain their customers go to Miramar Autotech. Learn from your colleagues Jason, because I did from this mistake. read more

OK I guess I was wrong the gentleman didn't explain that I also had to pay 895 for the certificate for the DMV. They went out of their way to contact me because they didn't want the bad yelp review I respect that and I apologized for the misunderstanding but again I am keeping tabs on every penny right now due to financial distress so and explanation would've been nice. So the rest that you're going to read was the review I left yesterday but I am revoking it everything was fine they did it quick Extremely disappointed took a coupon in there after reading all the great replies and five stars I knew it was too good to be true. Jason the guy who checked me in didn't even touch my coupon I asked him several times if you needed it while he ignored me the service was fairly fast I got in and out of there within 1520 minutes. However when I went to Bay he told me it was going to be $20 I had a coupon for 1199 smog certificate. Again he did not except my coupon and told me it was $20 I looked on the receipt he charged me 1599 and 495 for labor. After reading these previous reviews, I was a little nervous in my decision to use Brandon's to repair my car. I needed a catalytic converter and an EGR valve for my car to pass smog, and his quote was the cheapest. Not too cheap where you think you are getting ripped off though. Reading the previous reviews on how the owner tries to up sell you, did help me going in there, and I was able to easily troubleshoot what I needed and what was simply an up sell. I dropped my car off on Thursday night, and the owner gave me a loner car to use to get to work the next day at no charge. My car was ready and passed smog by Friday after work. My car needed a new catalytic converter to pass smog. They offered to replace it but I decided to shop around(always shop around). The guy at the counter is definitely an up-seller. I'm not going to judge the quality of their work because they didn't put any work into my car. I did go ahead with just one of the four up-sells because it was something I totally never heard of about my EGR needing to be re-routed. I watched the guy test all the tubes for the EGR and put them right back into their ports. I did NOT see him re-route anything, nor find any clogs in the tubes using his pressure guage. It was a waste of $95 upsell but like I said, I didn't know what it was and figured it was worth it enough just incase I failed smog again. Anyways, I have to hand it to them. Their prices ARE competitive. But haggle with the guys..they WILL budge. read more

They don't take appointments so it is first come first serve. Their place is a little hard to find but it is between the Evans Tires and Car Audio on the Car Audio side. Perfect for Smog Check! I was worried as a young(ish) girl going to get a smog check on my car that they would see me coming a mile away and see $$$$.... It is a test-only station which means I didn't have to worry about that. Had a coupon from the penny-saver it only cost $27 including all the state and dmv taxes - beat the other places in the area by $8-$15. Quick and easy. I went there to have a CV axle. After leaving my car there and going to lunch, I got a call saying I needed my bearings replaced and the other axle. They quoted me a package price which later turned out to be higher than if I had the work done separately. I agreed to have the work done and was told it would be done in two hours. Two hours turned to be nearly eight. I watched the mechanic take a hammer to my car to get the axle out. This ended up damaging a sensor which caused a warning light to come on. When they finally finished the work, the supervisor tried to say the light was on prior to service and it wasn't. He said he would pick up a new sensor at no cost to me and replace it. We scheduled a day for me to bring the car back. I brought my car back 3 days later, but the supervisor forgot to pick up the sensor. I waited another four hours for a sensor to be delivered. I got a call that my car was ready. When I picked it up, I was told the problem wasn't the sensor so they didn't put it on. I later found out the sensor was damaged and they didn't want to eat the cost of it. They also informed me they put the bearings in wrong. While they had my car, they did an oil change for me and a tire rotation. I have directional tires which they put on wrong as well. The bearing they replaced is also noticeably louder than my old bearing. read more
