Sadly, have to update this review. Very disappointed with the end result of the brake job on my car... Going to report this place and even considering hiring a lawyer at this point. I spent several hundreds of dollars for new brake pads($220 for the rear, they told me I had 45% left on the front and not to worry, only to have them STILL squeaking, so I went back just a few weeks later and they told me it was now 25% and charged me $300 for the front). I am stil feeling UNSAFE because it takes so long for the brakes to actually stop my car and the squeaking only stopped for one week. In fact, I went to the tire store and they mentioned the wear on my TIRES due to excessive pressure applied RECENTLY BY BRAKES. I had my brakes looked at by another mechanic and they said my rotors never got touched. I didn't know this before, and I trusted MMAT, but now I know not to simply blindly trust someone/something, just because it sounds like a better deal. I had to go back and forth about 4 times to get brakes fixed and replacement of spark plugs. It was a colossal waste of time, money, and gas . I kept trusting that they knew what they were doing and had my best interest in mind, but sure enough- just another place looking to take money. They said I could come back in again and would work on the rotors for just the price of the parts , but why would I go back to a place that clearly cannot finish the job properly the first time? Or even the second, at that?? Unbelievably disappointed. Alan is very nice, but do not be fooled!! I was happy to work with him at first, but just a few weeks later, I am left with useless brakes and spent over $900!!! I wouldn't even be surprised if the lied and didn't touch my car at all because I now need to go and get everything actually replaced. read more

My mom recommended this place after the owner of the local Honda mechanic place closed down and he went to work with his younger brother, who owns this place. I've been there twice in the past year due to inconvenient appointment times with my regular mechanic in Escondido. The first time, my car was thoroughly worked on. They discovered that the ball socket joints were on the verge of completely ripping off of my wheels. It was costly to replace them but it had to be done. The second time, they just went through an oil change, replaced spark plugs and checked my alignment. No recharge of the air conditioning. No flushing of fluids. I had to go to my regular mechanic to get those done. Weird. Anyway, it's not bad. read more

2 Stars because I had been coming here for 3 years with my ex, who's also Asian like the owners, and received excellent service and care. I just went in by myself today, and my experience was very different being there a single white woman. I was sent out of the shop to wait, I was not offered an adequate diagnosis (the owner seemed to be in a hurry to get me out of the shop), and I was refused a future appointment for service. I have always been polite and warm when visiting their shop. I felt their behavior was very unprofessional, misogynistic, and racist. My observations could be wrong, because I'm not a mind reader, but this ultimately doesn't change that I experienced this treatment. I will not be returning. read more

It's funny I just noticed I had already written a review in 2015. Well, eight years later and I'm still a very satisfied customer. Between my husband's and my car we have been to this place many many times. (Never anywhere else). The work is excellent. We have never ever felt taken advantage off. In fact a couple of times we thought there was something wrong with the car and he told us it was fine and didn't charge us anything. Today we thought there were many issues with my car that needed to be looked into. The owner called to tell me everything was okay except for the sparkplugs. And that's all he charged us for. This place was awesome. I came here on a Saturday morning on open and they were busy and gave me a wait time of 2 hours. They actually did it in 45 minutes. The lady at the counter was very nice and they had free water bottles while I waited. They were very very reasonably priced. Cheaper than other places price even after Groupon discount. Update Jan 9, 2020 Sooo my dumbass went too close to one of those little curbs while parking and it practically ripped the bumper off. I tried to put it back, failed, and went immediately to Mira Mesa Auto Techs. I had just been in earlier this week for an oil change ($36 and fast btw, you should definitely go here for oil changes) and in my panic drove over hoping that 1 they could reattach the bumper 2 today and 3 inexpensively. And guess what, all 3 wishes fulfilled - the guy kind of laughed at me and was like Yes I can fix it. 20 minutes later my car was pulled up out front, looking brand spanking new AND they didn't even charge for the service! Crossing my fingers that something bad doesn't happen now to balance the universe. Update July 2019 - Got an oil change for $36. My AC hasn't been working and it turns out it's the compressor ($800......). Guy tells me, Hey summer is almost over, maybe just roll down the windows?? I love this place. And yes... I am just rolling down the windows. Great service and super reasonable prices! I came here for an oil change and a diagnostic since my car was having trouble starting these past couple days. My appointment was for 1230PM on a Thursday but I got in about 15 minutes early and they started on my car right away. Total time for the oil change and battery replacement was about an hour fifteen, with a final cost of $160. The waiting area is super nice and staff was very friendly. I needed to get my oil changed and I happened to be in the area so I stopped by this shop. The waiting area is great! They had magazines, computers, wifi, tv, and some drinks you can have while waiting. There were also other customers there and I basically just walked in. There was a little bit of waiting that didn't bother me so much. Once it was time for to pay (a reasonable price of around $36-45 if I remember correctly), the guy broke it down for me...like he tore into me about the damn oil and how I was going to ruin my car. I thought it was actually pretty thoughtful. There was something comforting about an Asian guy with a thick accent yelling at me for not taking care of my car. haha! Will definitely go to this place for brake replacements, oil changes, and everything else they can do! Lady was super nice at the front, the waiting lobby was the best I've seen (plus they have complimentary water), + everything I got done, was $20+ cheaper than what I'd get done at Jiffy Lube! I went in to get my oil changed, brake pads replaced, and check on my tires. Turns out all I needed was an oil change, brake pads were fine, and my tires needed replacing soon. They even referred me to one of the tire places nearby to get them replaced...(by the looks of the review this tire place looks great too, yay!). I've always been nervous to get any car maintenance done with my car, but they make me feel confident in doing just this. I don't feel like they're trying to up the prices or anything on me, everything is fairly priced. I will be back soon! :) Super happy customer. read more

I wanted to rate MMAT now after my family's been coming here for over a decade. I was referred here through my parents who know Alan the owner, and I'm not sure if Alan knows me or not since my parents usually bring the cars in and I usually work on my car with friends so basically I feel like my review is valid because he's been consistent with everyone I have referred over here (basically if they name dropped me he doesn't even know my name). Overall, I had a minor incident today where a bolt broke off for the battery terminal on my WRX, so I called up Alan and he said just come on in and he had one of his mechanics fix it and also cleared the check engine code that resulted from moving the terminal around on the battery. When I asked how much he said don't worry about it! I have referred at least 10 friends to come here who all had similar experiences, where minor things he would just fix it for free, or basically the way he does business is personal and genuine, not trying to rip you off. He has serviced all the cars we have had over our lifetime which include 94 Camry, 97 Corolla, 03 Sienna, 08 Elantra, 10 Tundra, 11 Corolla, 13 Accord, etc. From friend's cars that I can remember there's been Integras, Infiniti G20, RX450H, Chevy Malibu, Mini Cooper, etc. so he does a variety of cars. Overall come thru if you need any service! I would recommend him to anyone as it's been pretty consistent for those who I have referred in my network! He gives you a breakdown of what's wrong, and you decide what you wanna fix or not, very straightforward! In the many decades I've lived in San Diego, I have taken cars to lots of different shops for repairs and maintenance. This is the first time I have felt moved to write a review. It's a good review because: (1) Mira Mesa Auto Techs made a very good impression on me when I first walked in. The people are friendly and the waiting area is unusually comfortable and welcoming. You can get work done while waiting there. If I'd known it was going to be that nice, I would have stayed on site instead of getting a ride and coming back later. (2) They fixed the problem promptly, and even did more than I'd expected. Let's just say the price was more than fair. I've been coming here for several years and I'm very happy with their knowledge, skill, and fair pricing. It's not posh but they have a waiting room with WiFi and a TV. I sometimes wait for an oil change, but usually, just do a drop-off in the morning and come back before closing. I was here last in April 2021. I haven't had any need for major repairs so it's been mostly minor things like oil and filter changes. He did replace my failed knock sensor and a wiring harness after an animal (rat, squirrel?) started living under my battery and ate some wiring. Lee checks my brake pads and lets me know how they are doing. With the pandemic my commuting was way down so they haven't needed replacing yet. read more

Being new to the city, I had to get my car maintenances so I called around and every place quoted me a crazy number. Luckily, a friend recommended me to this mom and pop place saying that the price is hard to beat and their service is always to please the customers. I was sold and was not disappointed. The manager even came out to explain to me the repairs that were necessary even though I was hesitant because I feel that all mechanic shops always try to up sell you to get more money, but not this place. Their waiting area is nice and spacious with complimentary water and a TV, but who watches TV anymore? So they hook up their customers with free and fast Wi-if. I would definitely say that is a win!
