I additionally contacted the owner Jo in reference to some landscaping work and he advised me that he is booked until next month. By booked he meant unavailable to give an estimate until next month. If there is a knock against Heaven's Garden their plants will be a little smaller than you'd fine in a "Non" Organic Nursery. Last year when they were less busy, Jo walked us around and gave us useful tips on how to plant our brush. The young lady this time explained that even when you do everything right factors like wind, soil acidity, mulching, and fertilizer deficiency can play a part in failure.

Running short on time, it was suggested I try Heavens Garden, as it was much closer to home. I called, and was given directions and told the lady what I needed, i.e. compost, gloves, and most importantly on this trip, Peonies!! I told her i would be right down. When I arrived I was met at my truck by this very friendly woman, who said, "you must be the Peonie lady!" lol! As she was walking me to the "Peonies" I was looking around..very well kept grounds, and all areas of interest were clearly marked with signs telling you what type of plants could be found there. They even had areas marked, "Sun Loving", "Shade Loving" ect.. I was particularly impressed with the ornamental trees...all trees, and plants were extremely healthy and robust. I was told they grow all their wares on the farm just next door, and that it was a family operation. I was really happy with the knowledge, and the attention to customer satisfaction given to me. Loved my experience, and hope everyone gives this hidden gem a try! Kudos to Heaven's Garden!

Greenstreet Gardens is one of the few plant shops I physically visit for my gardening needs. Staffs are friendly and knowledgeable, and they carry some of the more common cultivars of Alocasia, Ficus, Philodendron and other Aroids. If you know, you know. As with most nurseries, the indoor tropical plants and succulents are displayed inside the vicinity. There's a small greenhouse across the main building where you can find some of the larger indoor plants. Outdoor in the back, you can find annuals and other seasonal plants. In the summer, they occasionally have succulents out in the back as well. FYI-- If you're loyal a plant parent, who tends to frequently shop for plant supplies, make a rewards card!

I ended up going to Ed's Plant World in Brandywine where the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful to a beginner. The difference was night and day. Don't expect a staff of apron wearing employees standing at the cash register. It's (in MY 64 year old opinion) it was the perfect day to meander and just look at all the hidden gems. Back in 2018, shortly after I moved to the U.S., my husband and I selected three healthy, pink crape myrtle trees at this garden. I personally took photos of each tree and paid a deposit to reserve them.However, when we returned at the agreed pickup time, all three trees had been replaced. Two of them appeared undernourished and in poor condition, and the third one was tall and thin -- completely different from the compact variety I had originally selected. None of them matched what I had chosen and paid for. When I presented the photos I had taken as proof, the owner was dismissive and admitted that he did not know how to say what had happened. Despite this, he still refused to refund my deposit. As someone who had just arrived in the U.S. at the time, this experience was extremely upsetting. They're also incredibly informative and helpful. I recently purchased some herbs from Ed's and their team meets you at the entrance to try to guide and assist you. It's a nice touch. Once you move on to the area where the herbs are, other folks will assist you there as well. Additionally, the selection of herbs is superior and more varied than what you'd find in the nearby home stores. Ed's also carries a ton of flowers - fortunately they are around to answer questions because the selection can be overwhelming. Bottom line: there is no better place in the area for landscape that beats Ed's. Even for Christmas trees or herbs.
