Wow, this was great! I could eat a whole bowl of those plantains and salsa by myself. Brillant! I ordered the $15 lunch prixe fixe of salad, tilapia, and tres leches. The salad was skippable. It was like eating grass. Bland and blah. The cake was terrible. Dry and bland. Skip it. Head straight for the tilapia and the plantains and chips. The tilapia had an amazing red pepper sauce, with spinach rice, and avocado. I will dreaming about this dish for months. The turnover here is quick, and the place really packs them in. This place is off the hook. The only "complaint" would be that the guac isn't anything special. The chorizo appetizer is amazing and I came back less than a week after my first time to have the curried chicken entree. The photos on this site do not do the place justice. Wow, we just got catering from this place last night and they sure did deliver! Food was excellent, service was top notch and we will certainly be ordering from here again. Beware, the chicken quesadillas have shrimp in them. While they were delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed them, my colleague who is allergic to shellfish did not agree. Brasitas is great. I have been to the Norwalk location years ago (it was good from what I can remember) and have been frequenting the Stamford one in the last few months. Everything we have tried has been amazing - they really put effort into the food and it shows. Plantain chips and salsa are a nice start to a meal. I recommend the bistec de caballo entree and empenada app. The location may put you off of the place but it's worth it and they have valet parking at night. This place is a bit pricey but worth it - if you go for lunch, entrees are half the price. read more

We stopped by for lunch and was incredibly excited about the reviews - by far the plantain chips and fresh salsa were amazing! However, problem arose when we ordered a salad and a wrap at 1:10 and by 1:50, no food. This was a slower time - only three tables in the restaurant. Other tables who arrived after us received their lunches. After flagging down the expediter/busser, the server finally boxed our lunch to go & comp'd our bill. I hope it was just a case of not enough cooks or staff changeover, because we'd like to see if dinner experience fares better. Folks at work mentioned after I returned hungry, 'oh yeah, great food but SERIOUSLY sloooww service.' I'd love to see them fix that because getting the food right is a great thing - service can be fixed much easier. I went in to Brasitas about 5 minutes after 9:30pm for a special occasion on a weeknight, the place was a little empty yet a few customers had been recently seated. When the host appeared I was informed by the host, who was pulling at his collar and looking up and to the left, that the kitchen closed at 9:30--in spite of their website saying it closes at 10pm. What a wonderful business! A bunch of lazy servers and bartenders that shoo away business so they can get home and squeeze in 30 more minutes of Netflix before they drift off. Wow! Great food - really authentic! Plantain chips with guac and salsa were great.... Empanada appetizer was PHENOMENAL and one was good to share with 2-3 people. Located in a little sketchier area of Stamford but worth it! Creative dishes and even sittign outside was great - there is a wall blocking the view of the street so it's cozy. LOVE the freshly made plantain chips and salsa-- I could eat that for my meal! But then I would miss out on the amazing skirt and hangar steaks! Haven't strayed from those dishes yet, but I will. The mojito was perfection-- complete with the sugar cane-- I think this indicates their understanding of the 'zen of mojito.' Regarding other reviewers' comments: It's a bit pricey, if you compare it to a traditional Mexican restaurant, but this is NOT a Mexican restaurant (and I do love Mexican food). It's Spanish/Cuban/South American fine dining. Our server has always been lovely. I'm local to the neighborhood, so I consider it convenient and just typically urban. Excellent pico de gallo salsa. Pretty pricey considering location and ambiance, but the food was excellent. We had chicken arepas to start - highly recommend. I had a pork chop (not the tenderloin, which is also on the menu) with brussel sprouts, an apple pumpkin chutney, corn spoon bread (delicious) and a chipotle sauce. I would eat it every day it was so good. My dining companions had the flank steak and shrimp, and both said their meals were fabulous. The staff was wonderful. Brought my 15 month old and they visited with her several times during our meal and made her very happy. Great service! read more

Came here for dinner and drinks. Plantains and salsa are complementary. We also had the coca de gambas al ajillo which was a delicious flat bread. For an entree I ordered pollo caribeno al curry which was amazing, interesting flavor of coconut,curry,raisins with chicken and sweet plantains. Also comes with rice and beans. My boyfriend ordered Caribbean style stew which was also had a great flavor and broth. Margaritas were awesome as well. A little pricy but not too bad. Will definitely be back!! read more

Despite hearing great things about Brasitas since moving to Stamford 2.5 years ago, I had never been until tonight...and waiting that long was quite a mistake! It is not in a great area and doesn't look overly nice from the outside, but don't let that fool you. A nice ambiance in the restaurant, great drinks, outstanding food and very good service. Hands down the best restaurant in Stamford. I've taken some very fussy people here (including yours truly) and Brasitas never fails to impress. Everything that hits the table is undeniably delicious. My favorite has to be the chicken stuffed with yucca, although the fried snapper is a close second. Don't overlook the arugula and goat cheese salad, which is delightfully spicy. As the night wears on the crowd becomes noisier and more sophisticated, although the average age never dips below 40. Might be stuffy for a younger set, and too dark and loud for those in the AARP. Make a reservation and use the valet service as it can get very crowded. read more

Amaizing Mojitos! If you love mojitos - this is just a place to go. When you come in, they bring these fresh fried plantane chips and home made salsa - absolutely delicious. But don't eat too much of it, because you'll be full before your entree comes. From appetizers my favourite is Coconut Shrimp - Slightly crispy on the outside and juicy and full of flavor on the inside. Also, their Peruvian bouillabaisse soup is off the charts, amaizing flavor, so far the best seafood soup I have ever tried. Service is really good. read more

Fantastic fish, great authentic jambalaya , risotto accompaniments were a bit heavy but so flavorful. Coconut flan while delicious could have been warmer. Service was great and I would definitely come back for authentic Spanish, not Puerto Rican or Cuban, food. read more
