Pro-tip: Don't sleep on the tortillas! SO GOOD and made by hand. Always a great visit to the Maya Restaurant and the closest thing you can get to authentic foods. If you're not ready to dive into traditional dishes, there is a variety of options such as burritos, lomo/chicken saltado. Tamales are top notch, as well as the chile rellenos. I'm curious about the different jugos (juices) and atole, as I suspect a lot of added sugar. Highly suggest they consider more natural blends with less sugar. As for service, not quite sure about the validity of other yelpers experiences, the manager had a great smile and greeted us wonderfully. Overall, excited to go back! read more

First of all, I have been coming here for over 10 years maybe over 16 but I'm just being nice here. This place is always welcome. We were open arms. I've seen workers come stay or come and go. They accept me every time I come here with my friends from Mexico City come here with friends from Guatemala Ecuador, all the time Majority of photos in this review and from years ago, my photos food is always on point meaning it's always good. It is the same every time never bad always good very attentive and always give you a smile service with a smile and that is why I return after all these years 2007 is when I came to Connecticut and discovered this place place is very welcoming. Came here for my lunch break. The place was pretty empty. Nothing special about the ambiance. This is Guatemalan style food; It sucked they don't have birria tacos on the menu, so I ordered chicken tacos instead. It took 30 mins for me to receive it, but at least it's fresh. The chicken could have been juicier. A little salty but at least it had flavor. I'm a fan of the corn tortilla. They could have been more generous with the cilantro. This is my family and i's go-to restaurant. We would make it a point to come here every friday this past Summer! The food is delicious. The portions are generous. There is always a table available when we get there which is awesome. The staff is friendly. There are many options to food. I love to order the ceviche and chaufa. About a month ago I arrived with my wife on a Friday. The waitress was attentive. The dining hall has large windows for sunlight. The tortilla chips were stale and soft and the manager didn't believe me until another customer confirmed that they were, but I still didn't receive new fresh chips. I also found out the tostones come frozen and then they fry them, making for dry too crispy tostones. When the bill came I noticed that the drinks were not given happy hour prices even though on the menu it says Happy Hour: Wednesday - Saturday 3pm - 8pm. The manager didn't bother to come talk to me but pointed at a sign that that had a different time frame for HH. I asked him to bring the menu but he ignored me. He eventually gave me the drinks at HH prices but it was too late. I cannot believe he lost a customer over $4.00. read more

(Delivery review) I was craving Mexican food but my go-to is closed on Sundays. I decided to try something new and based my decision on the fact that Maya has tamales (if you read my reviews, I'm always after places with tamales haha). While scrolling through the menu, I was surprised by the cheap prices (and noticed some things were cheaper on Grubhub vs the online menu on their actual website). My fiancé and I decided to dabble in quite a few things...well, by my photo, 20 menu items. We thought that portions were small because of the $2-3 menu prices. Well to our surprise when delivery arrived a few minutes early, we may have gone overboard. The portions were HUGE. To my surprise (and boy, what a great surprise), the tamales were massive! Everything tasted SO good and I'm proud of myself for branching out and trying new flavors (I'm not a huge Guatemalan food fan but I tried some anyways). I loved every item that we purchased. Went here bc near me it was the closest thing I can grab a soup from that was Latin style for a sick person. Soup was good, I asked for tamales they said they had so I bought six. Asking if it would take long, she said no, however I made that clear that I had a sick person waiting for the soup. 10 minutes in, I told her forget about the tamales bc I felt it could have been quicker and felt the dilly dallying and she said no it's ready. Tamales were good and big, but for the life of me why would you keep bones and fragments of bones in the tamale they were scattered everywhere. Be careful for the bones. Ambience was quiet and clean and just went in for pick up but I don't think I'll be returning sadly. No pictures didn't feel the need. read more

If I could give them zero stars you best believe I would. I placed an order for delivery I waited for over an hour almost two they still told me it was on the way and nothing. I called the restaurant and they told me that they called 1 million times yet I have no missed calls. They said they would re send the delivery and put me on "hold" yet I could still hear them in the background saying how they would send the same COLD food. Was recommend this place by a friend which was great because it had Guatemalan dishes which my family is from. So decided to check out the spots. The parking situation is a bit weird they have a parking lot behind but there are residential parking spots so you kind of have to read the signs that tell you where to park and cannot park. You have the option to sit inside or outside. Sitting outside is nice but there were a bunch of bugs flying around and for some reason a lot of birds were attracted to the spot. But the. Menu has a great selection of food ranging from Guatemalan, Mexican, Peruvian which was interesting. I couldn't decide what to get so I got the burrito. It was an okay burrito. Nothing special. They had seafood which was I was told was not great. And the enchiladas were decent. What really was great was that they had Gallo which is the best Guatemalan beer. No salad and no beans. Ok. I ordered a pupusa and an entree of fried chicken... the pupusa came out. Cheese but no chichacrone (sp?) Just flecks of what could be meat... Fried chicken???? Didn't show up. First time my entree anywhere went MIA. Like seriously. Service is usually hit and miss... today was a miss. Ladies are always nice and friendly when they're waved down. I give them credit, they were busy running around making drinks (no bartender) taking orders and so forth. Normally I'm laid back chill and can laugh off little crap when it comes to service but FUCK no food and no service... 20 minutes wait for a check to leave... Honestly we won't come back for a sit down meal. Takeout yes... maybe.... if I'm craving a pupusa but then again there's other places to buy one... Waitstaff needs to touch tables. Although nothing out of the ordinary, it hits the spot - the location is fairly central, the restaurant itself always comfortable enough. It's a bit more casual than then ambitions it harbors but that's part of the charm. Any dish will taste as good as any home-made Guatemalan dish. I really like El Maya. I come here with my Mum sometimes and it's always a good meal and a good time. The outdoor sitting is nice, and the trees do a good job of secluding it from the bustling street in front of it. The Central American food is consistently cooked properly, I always opt for the thin steak with rice and beans. She opts for the spicy shrimp, and a funny indicator of a restaurants authenticness is the waitress saying "i don't know it's pretty spicy" before us trying and failing to eat it. I think its the worst place ever!!! Every time i order food something comes out wrong. In 2 occasions the meat was green! Hello that means the meat was old. I also ordered gorditas which don't come with spicy sauce - they end up putting spicy sauce. I don't know how grilled chicken is supposed to come out oily too. For being a busy restaurant, they should have better service. In conclusion, i wouldn't recommend anybody to come to this place. read more

The Maya is hands down the best restaurant in the area. The lomo saltado with the aji sauce is a must try. I cannot wait to go back.
