I left my instrument to be cleaned 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Today 2 weeks after Thanksgiving I am still waiting for their call to pick up my instrument. It is a new instrument but it has not been cleaned for a few years. My daughter has a concert next week, so I decided to call instead of driving there because their hours are odd. My instrument has not been cleaned and it has been out with their rentals. The lady told me her employee put it in the wrong spot. Pick up next week, 2 days before the concert. I am a student who took lessons for 5 years and I played both piano and trumpet. The lessons I have been in were great, they know everything about an instrument and how to play. I am currently planning to go to Towson university for music education and jazz performance, and they helped me throughout the years. Other lessons from professionals at the same level they teach would cost around twice as much. I have learned so much and gotten so far in my life. I've repaired my trumpet a lot there because of stupid decisions I've made, mostly just my mouthpiece getting stuck in the lead pipe. Nothing bad about my repairs has happened yet ;). My high-school band director gets repairs from him often and the repairs are cheap for what is being dealt with. I keep going back to him because of he great work he does. He only reason I stopped doing lessons is because of the program I'm in involving music, because they helped me get all the way through to my level of playing. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have there kid or themselves get better at music. I would recommend their repairs for the quality. Small, mom and pop with limited supplies; but in cahoots with the local schools so always has what the teachers need the students to have. They are quite knowledgable if not a more than a little stuck up and sick of dealing with parents that aren't experts in musical instrument maintenance and repair. That said. They mark up about 175% or more over average retail. I can buy RETAIL for at least 50% off their prices ANYWHERE. Like around the corner at the guitar center...( if they have what I need. which they rarely do) But if My kid breaks a string the day of the concert, I can buy one there. They rent Chinese made instruments with german names for a school year based fee of what you would pay to purchase that instrument outright at any other store. They will tell you that they (the strings anyway) are "german" because they have a german name, but they are not. They are german named chinese instruments. Same manufacturer as you'd find on ebay and amazon for $45 in the $60 satin finish with a different set of strings. We had a bit of a polite argument about this, they wouldn't accept the company's website explaining this as proof. With old stuff they (the husband anyway) is a very knowledgeable repairman who does very good work. I wouldn't give him my perfect finish antique brass, but for players, he's fine. Really ruined the finish/patina on one of my instruments because he insisted on giving it a bath to sterilize it. Anyway. Good in a pinch. But absolutely unbearable unreasonable prices. They're probably being screwed by their supplier, but still. Not worth it. read more
