I had acquired a guitar from a family member that was in decent shape, but needed some refurbishing. After looking around on Yelp, I came across this business which seemed promising. The young clerk at the business figured the body of the guitar needed a realignment, new strings, and some other TLC. I got an estimate which seemed fair so I left it in the care of this shop and waited for a call or email. After a few weeks of not hearing back, I shot the shop an email and the owner was nice enough to not only be expedient in their response, but to assure me that the guitar was ready to pick up. They did such an incredible job bringing it back to life that I bought a guitar strap and some other accessories to go along with it. The prices here are actually REALLY reasonable and I would argue comparable if not *better* than bigger retailers like Guitar Center. Really solid selection of product to choose from considering the size of the shop and, like I said, they are very hands on which was refreshing. I'll be sure to come back in the future as I'm ready to get back into building out my home studio again. read more

Bay Tunes Guitars is my favorite place to try out new gear and purchase in the Annapolis/Edgewater area. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and never pushy to get you to buy something. From them I have purchased 2 guitars, an amp, several effects pedals, I also took a few guitar lessons, and had them upgrade the hardware on my archtop guitar. Which included upgrading to a set of dimarzio pickups, a new bigsby and pots and wiring. The work turned out perfectly. If you're looking for friendly expert advice and good prices Bay Tunes Guitars is where you should be going. As I said I will drive past other guitar shops in the Annapolis/Edgewater area to go to Bay Tunes Guitars to get recommendations on gear, try out gear and make my purchases. I found myself with a free 20 minutes and decided to wander over with my 2 kids from Panera Bread after lunch. I've been going down the guitar rabbit hole for a while now searching for the perfect tone - and it's a bottomless pit. Maybe I'd find it here I think to myself? We walked in and the place full of beautiful guitars and I'm thinking this will be a pleasurable experience. It's otherwise empty for a Saturday afternoon. I've been trying to get the kids interested in music for a while now and what better way then a room of beautiful instruments. It's about 5 seconds before I'm greeted by a man that says "we don't usually allow drinks". I'm thinking okay, "usually". "What should I do with our drinks?" I ask. His eyes motion to the door and he says firmly now "We don't allow drinks in here". My kids were a little confused. I thought a suggestion to leave the drinks somewhere was were he was headed, but he turned icy cold. It was clear that he wanted to continue whatever he was reading behind the counter in his empty store and not offer an alternative. I don't mind the rule, but the way it was offered wasn't my favorite. I'm not confrontational, so I offered a "so glad we stopped in". We left, and my 8 year old daughter said to me "why would anyone buy anything from that man". I told her that "A rule is a rule, but an ass will usually always be an ass". It's a hard place for a store to survive in an internet shopping world. I really want to support local, but I can't and won't support Bay Tune. read more

Rude, unhelpful guitar tech. Very bad guitar set up that he ultimately blamed on dead strings, my playing, and my 'perspective'. Worst customer service I've experienced since Time Warner Cable. Full Disclosure: I lost my temper at this place and was rude back to this guy, so I accept that I didn't help the situation. But it was only after he was smug, arrogant, and unhelpful, and only after the 3rd time I came in to have his work redone. In my defense: I chose this place because I prefer to avoid Guitar Center and the like. I'm from out of town. I came here a week earlier to have my Martin HD-28 E set-up with a simple truss adjustment and a loose input jack to be tightened. I'm a 20 year veteran guitar player, I'm a member of AFM (the musicians Union), I've had tons of experience with guitars, guitar techs, and guitar set-ups. I've worked with some great people and I have a large volume of knowledge, but I still choose to take my guitar to a shop because I recognize that I may not know everything and I appreciate a second opinion. When I took my guitar in, I told them that I had a buzz on the G string at the third fret. The guy told me the buzz was caused by dead strings. I highly doubted that, but again, I value a second opinion so I said ok, just set me up. That evening I picked up the guitar and left only to play it an hour later and find that EVERY string was buzzing. On multiple frets. With brand new strings... I took it back in and politely asked the tech to listen to the buzzing, could he please fix it. I left and returned a few minutes later and the guitar was still buzzing and again, I was told it was the dead strings. I told him I disagreed and instead of asking what he could do to help or make a customer feel taken care of, without looking at me he said 'based on what? Based on what do you disagree?' I stared at him, stunned. This smug, arrogant person was now making the choice of insulting his customers knowledge instead of helping a CUSTOMER. He also suggested my playing was causing the buzzing and he said that 'life is all about perspective' and it was only my perspective that the set up wasn't right. So I lost my temper. During the following disagreement he insisted the setup was right, there was nothing he could do or would be willing to do, and he also insisted that Martin would say the set up was right. Well, funny enough, I have a relationship with a lot of the staff at Martin Co. and I'll be discussing it with them. I was pretty rude as I left. I used a lot of cuss words which was probably not helpful, nor was it polite. In the end, this guy was very rude and insulting. I was refused the proper setup that I had requested in the first place and had paid for. More than his bad attitude and terrible customer service, the set up he did on my guitar is awful. It remains to be seen whether the input Jack is solidly in place. I would highly recommend going any where else. read more

Bay tunes is a great guitar store. I live very close to them and I've been using them for years now and haven't been dissatisfied. the owner bruce is constantly working in store and is super friendly. The other employee is a little disregarding at times but if you ask him a question he will help you out with reasonable advice. read more

A really great local music shop with excellent customer service. They have voice lessons, guitar lessons, piano lessons and much more. I bought an amp fhere 3 years ago. It died. Bay Tunes had the manufacturer fix it right away at no cost to me. They also let me borrow one while mine was being fixed. Nothing like a caring local business. Thanks Jeff! read more

What can I say other then...DON'T GO THERE...Terrible customer service and even worse people. There were 3 people watching tv when I went in there and not one of them looked away to greet me...and I haven't even got to the problem yet. I took a guitar into them to have them look over top to bottom..told them I needed to make sure it worked as it would be a Xmas present..after dropping it off and having to pick it up the next day...I assume so they can go thru it..I pick up the guitar and take it home after being assured that everything was good to go and low and behold...it doesn't work..i called and the resident lacky says no..i didn't test it at all. I bring it back into them and express my disappointed and I'm told that I'm out of line. They charged me to do a job that shouldn't have been performed. So now I have an electric guitar that has been reduced to an acoustic. The owner of the place tells me to leave and then refuses to give me any of there names..all the signs of a guilty man. Hard to believe people like this are allowed to be in business in a small town just to take advantage of the people who live there. I'm on my way to where I should have gone to begin with...GUITAR CENTER. My own fault I guess..what a horrible place with horrible people read more
