I took my 3 year old daughter for her monthly hair appointment back on June 8 and the service was horrible. The stylist had a horrible impatient attitude and walked away because she couldn't handle my 3 year old crying because she was tender headed. I had to plead with them because it was the day of my baby shower. The only thing that I recommend is for this place to be shut down and revamped. read more

My daughters had a marvelous first experience. But the second visit was an appointment from hell! I was charged $320. For what was NOT med box braids . For my daughter's. The braids were unravelling upon leaving . And my daughter informed me that the stylist was rude. I support local business, but this is one that is not for the community! I went to the Brat Box Salon twice. The first visit was very pleasant. The stylist was friendly, professional, and I loved her work. The second time was the worst experience I've ever had from a stylist. My daughter is 5 and does not like getting her hair done. With that said, you just need to be gentle and patient with her. She's not a screamer or won't try to fight or run away but she will start crying if it hurts. I showed the stylist the requested style which was half lemonade braids at the top and feed in for the back. The stylist quoted me $160 which I thought was a lot for a 5-year-old, but I agreed to the price. Now to the stylist's credit, she did say the style may not be completely identical to the requested style due to factors like head shape, etc. Our appointment was scheduled for 2:00 pm. We were about 15 minutes late and I called over an hour in advance to inform them that we would be running late. I had a nail appointment for myself at 6:00 pm and I thought the timing would be perfect because the first time we spent about 3 hours at the salon. By 5, the stylist wasn't even halfway done her hair, so I had to call my sister to sit with my daughter so I could make it to my appointment on time. My sister called me when the stylist was done braiding and about to start adding beads. The style that was done was not the style requested. Instead of lemonade braids to one side for the top like requested, the cornrows were going in different direction, some to the side, some to the back. I'll try to add pictures, but I want to make sure I keep my child's identity private. I expressed my concerns about that not being the requested style and the stylist became rude and offended. I requested to speak with the owner. While waiting to talk to the owner, another adult was complaining about the exact same thing. I requested a $20 discount based on what I could see on facetime. Now get this, I was able to leave the salon, go get my nails done (full set with designs), and head back to the salon all before they were finished braiding my baby's head. I returned back round 8:15 and they were still putting on beads. Once I saw the hair in person, I was more upset because not only was the style different than requested, but the cornrows also looked more amateur than professional. The cornrows were done with her real hair, and fake hair was added once the stylist started braiding the cornrows down but there was a clear difference in size. I also requested minimal hair added and the braids ended up being halfway down her back. I expressed this concern with the owner who seemed to understand at first, even hinted at having problems with this stylist in the past. They offered to redo her hair, but I declined because my baby had already been there for over 6 hours, and her scalp was clearly sore from the tension, so I didn't want more tension added. When came time to check out, I requested a discount greater than $20 since there was more than one thing that was wrong, and the owner basically called me broke. I think a discount should've been offered as a courtesy. Had the owner responded more professionally, I would have considered going back. Now, I'm trashing this salon every chance I get due to the utter lack of customer service skills, professionalism, and basic human decency. read more

Im so happy I went before i read the reviews or I might have might have missed out. My daughter is a swimmer and she is in the water atleast 4 days a week for hours at a time. We get hair hair done monthly and we have always had a good experience. We have never had the same stylist but the professionalism is the same. My girl also travels so instructions are sometimes necessary and are followed everytime. read more

I called to make an appointment and was given an 11am appointment. I arrived around 10:55am and no one was at the salon. A stylist showed up at 11am and called and texted the owners to see what was there ETA. She did not receive a respond. The owners came strolling in around 11:13am and at that time 3 other families had arrived. They did not apologiz for their tardiness. The only question was do we all have appointments. The female owner tone was like we were bothering her instead of appreciation for the business. After signing in my daughter was assigned to a stylist. I told her the style my daughter needed and showed her pictures. After she was finished the shampoo I went in the waiting room. Within a hour the stylist came to me inquiring how I wanted the headpiece placed on my daughter's bun. I showed her and within 5 minutes my daughter came into the waiting area to show me her hair. I went to the stylist to say thank you and took pictures. I then went to the front to pay. Unfortunately, this is when things took a turn for the worse. I was told the total was $85. My immediate response was are you serious! The male owner told me that's the base price. It would have been $95 if she got hair added. My daughter had a dance recital later that day and simply needed a bun. The stylist shampooed her hair, blow dried it and put it in a simple bun. She did not flat iron or straighten her hair. She did not braid her hair. She did not put beads in her hair. I will never understand how nor why they would charge me $85. Pictures attached. The bun is ok but not a $85 hairstyle. I will NOT recommend this salon and I will NEVER return! A total rip off. No respect for customers time. Zero organization. I was ripped off and extremely disappointed. read more

My last three visits have been less than stellar. My kids' hair didn't last long despite protecting it every night. The colorful strings they attached to the braids were coming out the next day. The last few visits they've had a shortage on braiders. My very last appointment the owner asked me to wait while her husband picked up some braided from their homes. My kids complained about waiting and tight braids. They've also mentioned that the employees often are on their phones or laughing, cursing, twerking, and arguing in front of the children. My second to last visit the two women who did my girls' hair cursed each other out in front of me about a discrepancy about how I wanted their hair. My last complaint is the extreme wait times. 8 hours for straight backs? You be the judge, but I won't be going back. I'm dedicated to doing my kids' hair myself rather than deal with inconsistent braiders. read more

I've have taken my kids to this salon twice and both times was not very good, the first time we waited about 30 minutes after our scheduled time but on the flip side their hair was absolutely gorgeous. However their last visit was unforgivable, one stylist with 6 clients, 11am she did not do a good job did 1 and a 1/2 cornrow and said I can't style his hair he moves too much, his hair was not completely dried and this was a different stylist, his hair came out horrible his sister hair also horrible nothing like the first two girls, I was not offered any discount refund nothing, no empathy just excuses and I noticed a day after my sons hair is missing in the front. Steer clear of this place... proceed with extreme caution!!! If you could help it don't go to this place. Find another salon. read more

NEVER TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE! I'm currently sitting in the salon at 9:35pm when my appointment was at 3pm. I got to my appt at 2:50 and was told the stylist would be ready in 10mins. Well an hour later and I'm asking well what's going on. The husband (owner) says he's sorry the person is almost done. Another 45mins later and the wife comes and says they were behind and she can come back. So now it's 4:45 and she's back getting a wash and deep conditioning treatment that takes another hour. They get started on the style which is medium feed-in cornrows into a ponytail. The wife owner has nothing but excuses and had the audacity to blame me for waiting when they are the ones that kept saying a few minutes. It's one thing if they had good customer service and told the clients what's going on but no, you have to go to them constantly to see what's going on. Had we not been in a pinch and needed her hair done quickly I would have never waited. Do me a favor and never go hair. Although the stylist did a good job. You should never be in a salon for 7 hours for cornrows! read more

If you cannot book AJ, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE! Kiana did my child hair. After 2 weeks the style was becoming messy and I took her hair down. I notice 2 gash like areas in my daughter hair. I immediately took her to the emergency room. Doctors confirmed the gashes and pain were caused her pony tails being pulled too tight and the pressure from the pony tail holder caused gashes. I was extremely upset! I'd never experienced this. My daughter has came to this salon several times and has only been serviced by AJ. The owner Jeneva is extremely rude and careless. when I contacted her to follow up on the issue she advised that I neglected my child. NEGLECT? A protective style should be able to last from 2-3 weeks. My daughter is very articulate. If there were any previous signs or indications that she was in pain or uncomfortable I would've reacted accordingly. During the 2 weeks my daughter never complained. The neglect was on Kiana and Jeneva. Jenevas allows inexperienced and none licensed stylist to work at salon providing services to children. Whose hair and scalp are twice as sensitive. They both failed to ensure the style was protecting my daughters head. I'm currently working with MD Department of Labor and highly recommend anyone who has had a terrible experience with this salon to submit their responses to barbers.cos@maryland.gov. read more
