Ok, while I do not consider this place a tourist spot, everyone visiting Nuremberg must visit this restaurant. And for what's important: You should (must) order the bratwurst. You can order 6-8-10-12 with either saurkraut or potato "salad". As you sit down you will find a basket of bread/pretzels, keep count how many you eat, they are NOT FREE. You'll also find mustard. The whole point of the restaurant is to order the bratwurst, eat it with kraut, pretzels and mustard. An order of 10 is more than enough for a single person. They have other items in their very short menu, but C'MON you are there for the bratwurst. We tried finding a table during the summer and weekend, good luck....we tried once again during Christmas Market time for a late lunch and not issues finding a spot during the weekday. Loved it. Gotta go here to have what is reportedly the best Nurembergers in town. Not a huge place and they really pack you in and even double and triple you up at tables with others. But that makes for fun social situations you might not otherwise have. The grill is in the middle of the room where the bar area is grilling these sausages and the smell is intoxicating. They come with the best tasting sauerkraut ever that even those that don't like sauerkraut would probably like. Our server was awesome and we had him bring out one more plate and more beer because it was so good. Would go back here any time. read more

Not sure why this has decent ratings. My experience was poor. I found the staff disinterested in my business and presence. It felt like I was a nuisance to be there. Food was average for other local fares I had, and compared by price it was terrible value compared to other local restaurants I visited. When I paid the server she didn't even offer me change? As if she was entitled to a 5 euro tip on my meager meal for 1? ... there's tons of great food and service around, skip this one. read more

Definitely a tourist trap! I heard they were the best Bratwursts in all of Nuremberg, but while they were good, they were by no means the best I have had. That in itself is not a crime, but the service was rather distant, it is very busy and cramped, they seat you right next to total strangers so they can pack more people into the restaurant, AND to top it all off, they put bread and bretzels on the tables as if it were free, and then charge you for what you eat at the end. Probably wouldn't be a bad place if it wasn't busy, but this is just my experience. I would try it again when I go back. read more

Yep, good brats. Very good brats. I'm from Wisconsin, I know brats. The best brats in Bavaria? Not sure, but they're worth eating for sure. The weinkraut was amazingly good, and the prices are fair. The weirdest thing was seeing two Chinese girls in dirndls flirting with two American businessmen. That was, I guess, the floor show. Americans who complain about the service: it's not like the US. You have to drag them to your table and ask for the check, otherwise they just think you're having a good time and want to stay. They're not into turning tables, they're into good service, which is different. So don't go given my Bratwurstlefreunden a one-star because you had to wait soooo long for your bill. This was one of my BEST meals in Bavaria! The restaurant is very cozy and the service was perfect. I love that the "Kitchen" is an island in the middle of the dining room. It kinda gives you the feeling that you are at an actual barbeque - yet eating the delights of the small Nürnberg style Wurst. The sides of mustard, hot-n-spicy horseradish and wine Kraut are the perfect match to the little metal plates of meaty goodness. You'll get a basket of bread on the table, and I suggest eating the "Bretzeln" with all of it. Dip away! It is INSANELY delish with the "Senf". If you don't have the time to sit, Wurst sandwiches are available to go.... at a great price. Also, if you're sneaky enough, you can bring cans of the sausage back as souvenirs to make all your buddies jealous of this blissfully 'German' experience. One note: It gets REALLY busy. We were lucky to be there during the week for lunch. We spent the day drinking pints of the "Haus Bier" and Rosé. This one institution makes me dream of a visit to this city again! If you want in a charming interior decor enjoy one of Nuernberg's and/or Franconian's famous meals that is the place to be - definitely! You can either take a Nuernberg Bratwurst in a roll to go or take a seat inside and enjoy the Nuernberg Bratwurst grilled, boiled or smoked or Pork Knuckle. As a side you can choose between just plain mustard (btw. you do not eat Nuernberg Bratwurst with sweet mustard, that is totally wrong!! see post of 2012), rolls / bretzels (not free, watch out), potato salad or sauerkraut. But honestly, the sausage tastes so good with its spices and meat and then the grilling process (or smoking) you better do not need a side dish to taste the unique flavor. read more

Overrated. Definitely a tourist stop. Maybe my wife and I were spoiled in Munich, but it doesn't measure up to even second-tier biergartens at which we've eaten. I will concede that the interior decor is Bavarian-charming, with wood-carved details and waitresses in traditional garb. However, the service less than charming. While I will say they were slammed, almost all the decent biergartens we've visited have been busy, but didn't resort to being brusque or rude. The day we went, because of a convention, there were many international diners and apparently they didn't have enough English-language menus. So minutes after receiving it, the same server attempted to grab the menu out of her hand (I don't mean asked for it, I mean physically tried to snatch it). When she resisted and said she was still using it, the waitress seemed quite put-out. Of course, a restaurant review should be mainly about the food. It was Ok but again not in contention with other biergartens. The currywürst was suitably smoky. However, I must ding the pork knuckle. They didn't specify crispy/roasted or boiled on the menu. It was boiled, which is nowhere near as tasty as roasted crispy pork knuckle. Bottom line, it's ok if you are in the area, and it's conveniently located in the old town. Had late lunch here and it was delicious! We had 7 in our group and they had plenty of space. They immediately put down pretzels and rolls but beware they charge you it's not free bread. Wow what a restaurant. If you're visiting Nuremberg this has to be a place to go no matter what. Very quick service and the food was awesome. If you're here during the Christmas Market don't expect to be waiting long, but also don't expect after you're meal to be sitting around. They have a quick table turnover because of the high volume of people waiting. That's how come you didn't have to wait too long. Really good authentic German restaurant /bar. The beer is as always delicious, they serve the zirndorfer kellerbier, which I really enjoy. There is no sitting, you just got any available spot, and don't be surprised if you're alone in a big table and some ask if is ok to join you and share the table. They specialize on bratwurst, so they have a wide selection of sausages and side dishes. They also have bread and pretzels. The server was very nice and to my surprise they mark on the ticket for tips, which is not usual in Europe. The service is also very fast, from order to having your food on the table in less than five minutes. read more

They sell Nurnberg sausage to go in vacu-paks and cans, so you can take some back home with you. I do consider this a tourist-y spot since it's right next to the hBf at the city wall. But I like it. So drink some Keller beer, have some brats, go easy on the bread, and enjoy. read more

In addition, they refuse to serve my wife, who's 28 years old, a raspberry-schnapps because, "its too strong" (when we sat down and did not have anything to drink/eat prior). We went early on a Saturday evening (4:30 pm) but with the Christmas market (which is very close by) we knew we had to go early. Good thing we did because it was out the door by the time we left. We were seated at a table with two other families, which was different. Menu is not extensive; bratwurst and pork knuckle, potato salad and sauerkraut. Service was the biggest deal breaker, and I don't just mean the impatience of the waitress, but the fact that everything costs extra there. I know that America's free bread, water and condiments haven't made their way across the Atlantic (yet?), but when the restaurant ONLY sells bratwurst, and every other plate of brats in town come with bread (and a side for 6 EUR), then it's kind of a downer to pay extra for less. Adding insult to injury, water costs nearly as much as a beer (3.40 EUR), and they won't let you keep the fun shaped bottle that you just overpaid for so at least you get a souvenir for the 3.25 EUR. A final gripe is that we were on the fence about ordering waters before looking at the menu, yet the waitress brought us each an opened bottled anyways. I'm sure it was an honest misunderstanding, but when we began to decline the bottles, she didn't seem to care about the mistake and rather forced us to accept the bottles (Again, at 3.25EUR each). Things aren't all bad though. The atmosphere is cozy and has an authentic feel to it. It's just too bad that the experience is made more sour than their kraut by not offering an explanation of how pricing and the menu selections work. With only 3 varieties of the same sausage on the menu, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out, but sometimes a bit of friendliness can make a better experience for both the unaccustomed American and the annoyed German. Almost always crowded, be prepared to be seated at a table with another party. The "rostbratwurste mit beilage" has a wonderful smokey flavor, grilled. A 12 piece order comes on a heart-shaped platter. For me, the sauerkraut was the better choice over the potatoes. Ask for their pretzels - they seem to mysteriously be unavailable once you've received an order, but pay attention to the counter in the center of the room, where the keep them. Very convenient location if you are touring Nuremberg. We thought it might be hard to find, but then we noticed the smoke from a chimney a block away and followed it. We went during afternoon hours and they had plenty of seating, waitresses were always responsive when we signaled we need something.
