I have been using them for several years and these people are great! The kind of "old fashioned" pharmacy feel everyone should have. One of the first times I was there to pick up meds for one of my dogs, the pharmacist actually asked the customer in front of me how they were feeling on whatever medicine they were picking up, because sometimes it can interact with whatever medication that person was already on. You know, just what you would expect a pharmacist to do, but something I realized I had never heard at a larger or chain pharmacy. Whenever I have had any questions about medicines, someone always took the time to answer them thoroughly. I have always felt like they really care about their patients. When my second dog was 17 with cancer and didn't want to take one of his meds, they worked with me to make several different compounded versions of his meds into treats, until we could find one that worked for us. I've transferred my own prescriptions to the from Walgreens, when I was told by Walgreens that there was a national shortage of a generic drug my doctor prescribed, and Walgreens didn't anticipate having any in stock for at least a couple of months. I called Braun and they said they had no issues with shortages from their suppliers, and filled the prescription next day. Although I have to go out of my way to get there, it's worth the trip. If I lived in Lincoln Park, they would be my regular pharmacy. read more

I work at a local veterinary clinic and we call in rx's all the time to them. I must say I am very impressed from using them from a work standpoint. I call in medications a lot of different pharmacies, especially human, and they always make it difficult or there is some issue. Not here, you give them all the information and then they contact the owners for payment and they can compound meds to any flavor. Not to mention everyone I deal with there is very nice. I know this review may not be entirely helpful to customers, but our clients have always had good luck with them. read more

Braun sat on a prescription for half a day and then claimed they were not provided the prescription until a few hours before they bothered to fill it. We actually had to insist they fill it before they bothered to do anything. I checked with the Doctor that claimed it had been transmitted the previous evening and they were able to prove that Braun lied. The vet just called the pharmacy to see what happened and they now claim they had it but were busy and hadn't processed it yet. They told the vet that we lied and that they explained to us they had it but that it would be a while before it could be filled. I don't think they know how to be honest. Stay away from this place. read more

Received my fourth large order from Braun today and noticed they did not send me any alcohol pads and stuffed a bunch of my needles and syringes in one bag which they normally do not do. Ashley fulfilled my order and was very nice, I asked her if they could please include alcohol pads as they normally do, she stated they will do so. After I noticed there were no alcohol pads in my order, I called the pharmacy asked to speak with Ashley but Sharron the pharmacy manager answered my call and asked what she could do for me I explained the situation of not receiving any alcohol pads and let her know I was annoyed on how they stuffed all the needles and syringes in one bag, mind you there are 6 different types of needles and syringes stuffed in one smaller bag. Sharron was dismissive about the whole situation saying Ashley is one of her best techs which I wasn't complaining about her. When I asked Sharron if they could please send me some alcohol pads she said it wasn't worth paying the $20 in shipping fees and they really just include the alcohol pads as a courtesy. I mentioned all of the money I have spent with Braun, my orders of medication that I get from Braun range from 10k-15k and you can't even do me the courtesy of sending me alcohol pads. Customer service is not what it used to be and honestly it wasn't so much the alcohol pads it's the principal and the dismissiveness that has me writing the review. Not sure if I will be filling another order with Braun as this really upset me. read more

I'm not one to write negative yelp reviews, but, to anyone going there to get their pet's medication compounded, think again. Unless you want to pay for the same medication multiple times, find somewhere else. My Dog has been getting her medications here for the past year and it always seemed to be an issue, the medication was never the same, it looked different every month and 8/10 times I would have to go back there and have them re-do it. I work at a Pharmacy myself and am well aware how a compounded medication should look After shaking the medication for a few minutes it was never a homogeneous solution, it always had clumps the first time they would make it. So i would call again and speak to Brett (the owner) and then I would go pickup the new medication and that looked fine. The last few times were ok. But the last time it was messed up again, I don't want to risk giving my 6 lb dog too much medication because it would never thoroughly mix, and since she needed such a small dose, getting clumps would mean that she would too high of a dose of the medication. So the last time I called to speak to Brett he told me that it would be better for me to find another pharmacy is Buffalo Grove or somewhere really far because it seemed that me getting my Dog's medication there was "counter productive" I agreed, but for him to tell me that those are the only places that would compound my dog's medication, I feel, was just a scam for me to keep going to them. Well, that's not the case, I went to save rite pharmacy just down the street from me and they were able to compound the medication and I was able to see exactly what they were doing, that's why they have a window in their compounding lab, so you can see what they mix your pet's medication with. I am never worried if the medication will be the same. Working at a pharmacy if a customer is not happy, or the pharmacy makes a mistake, the customer gets their money back, right? Well not here. My husband went in with the compounded medication from Braun and the one from Save Rite, he showed the pharmacist at Braun what a big difference it was from theirs and Save Rite, the pharmacist agreed. Brett wasn't there that day so my husband went back again today and asked to speak to Brett, when he finally came my husband tried to show him the difference between the two compounds and he didn't even want to look at it, let alone refund my money for the medication that I didn't even give to my dog, but paid TWICE for. ALSO, the medication I would get, it was necessary to keep it in the refrigerator, why is it that every time I would go pick it up it would always be on the shelf and not in the fridge? I was also the one that had to look up the compounding information where it states that the medication my dog was getting would only be good for 30 days after compounding when they wanted to give me a two month supply. It seems that they are only in the business of making money, Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else because like many other reviews on here, they do not take responsibility for their mistakes. The owner is not a pharmacist so he doesn't really care when legally the same accuracy should apply to pet medication compounds as it does to humans. I will never go back there because I don't trust them. It is not my job to hound them and make sure that they compound the medication correctly. read more

I needed Braun's services due to a life threatening illness my dog suffered. And I'm sad to say, I had a horrible experience. They messed up my order multiple times and in the final mishap, liquefied 5 months worth of expensive medication for my dog. Brett, the manager that another reviewer here raved about, refused to accept that one of his employees might have made a mistake and in the end shorted me for over $200 worth of medication. Basically they fixed half of their mistake and expected me to foot the bill for the other half. My vet, whom I have been going to for several years, who knows I'm a rational person, even spoke to him and he refused to fix the problem. I love to support neighborhood businesses, but the sad fact of the matter is, a company like Walgreen's or CVS would have fixed the mistake and NEVER in a million years would a manager there yell at me the way Brett did. I won't lie, I had some strong words for him as well, but I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my entire life. I have since taken my compounding needs to a mail-order business in Arizona because unfortunately it seems Braun is the only gig in town for veterinary compounding issues. I can also say, from my extensive time in the store waiting, the shelves are poorly stocked, poorly organized and somewhat dirty. Needless to say, I will not return and will advise anyone who will listen to avoid this place like the plague. My previous review three years ago requires an update. In my previous review, I stated how the merchant successfully compounded an antidote for a dog which was suspected of accidentally ingesting rat poison while being watched by my incompentent (and now former) wife. This visit, my other dog was ordered compounded Denamarin to treat elevated liver enzymes, specifically, the ALT. I identified myself as a pharmacist and stated my lack of knowledge in veterinary pharmacy practice (their advertised specialty). I asked of the pharmacist, "Is this one of these isolated elevated lab values that should be treated right away or is it not." The response was curt if not almost indignant "I don't know, we just compound it. You'll have to speak with the doctor." While I appreciate the honesty, a pharmacist is supposed to know about side effects, dosing, why the patient (dog or human) is taking the drug, and what other drugs this may or may not produce an untenable drug interactions. These are not high level concepts. I teach this to every pharmacy student who walks through my door. The right dose, the right drug, at the right time. Unfortunately, the service, approach to care, bedside manner, and knowledgability all sharply declined since my last visit. read more

But the customer service is awful, they've lost one of the prescriptions from my vet (after they called to say they had it, so then they lost it later), they aren't open when they say they are. I guess they think because they fill a niche no one else does, they can treat customers like they're trapped. I'm looking for other options. read more

I needed to get my cat's medication formulated in order to make it easier to administer. I went in on a Saturday. Since I already had a prescription I was told they could do it if I brought those pills in, and that there would be a 24 hour turn over time. When I got there Kim informed me they weren't too busy and that if I wanted to I could wait! Cool! She even used her own form of the medication as it would taste better than the pills. Unfortunately my cat still thinks it tastes like meds. BUT I will be back and next time am trying the trans-dermal form. If anyone has a pet that is difficult to medicate check this place out. They have all kinds of flavors and formulations. And the BEST customer service! And, they have a 15 min loading zone right in front for anyone who drives. read more

My policy is normally only to write reviews if I have something good to say. However, since this place is a pharmacy, and since they are dispensing medication, I feel the need to warn you all about my experience with them. We have been using Braun for about a year now for all of our vet medication needs for our 3 dogs. Almost every time I needed a medication something was wrong, or there was some trouble with the medicine. I felt like a crazy person fighting with them. Recently however, was the last straw: -They refilled a prescription for anti-seizure medication in a size twice as large as normal: 2 months instead of the normal 1 month. This anti-seizure medication was prepared in such a way that made the medication ineffective after one month. So after 1 month, seizures started to happen on a daily basis even though the medication was administered. Also they didn't ask if it was okay to send a 2 month supply instead of the normal 1 month and charged my debit card for the double amount ($150) without my knowing. -They only gave me correctly compounded Fluoxetine in May, Oct, and Nov. All the months in between were liquid with no medication in it for a cost of $30 each. -We gave them capsules to compound into a liquid; they lost medication and gave me something completely different. Went back to explain it, they made it correctly but lost the full bottle of the capsules again. Eventually they found the capsules I had given them. For all future refills, we needed to hand them the bottle of capsules, wait there while they took out 30 days of medication, then return the bottle to us so they wouldn't lose it again. So be warned. They are not compounding the veterinary medications correctly. If you have a dog that depends on medication to live, do not trust Braun Pharmacare. We will never go back to them. read more

I have been working with Braun, Brett in particular, for years dealing with Genistein powder for our community of children dying from an illness known as MPS. So many of our children depend on this medication that only Braun and one other pharmacy carry. I contacted Brett just 5wks ago to confirm that they still carry the product. I still have the emails to prove all he just said to me. He responded that he did, no plans on discontinuing, and that the price remained the same, $1500 for the kilo. The only stipulation was no international shipment. Four days ago, people from our group started to inform me that Brett was no longer able to be reached as he was on vacation, but that they've completely discontinued the medication and will not be restocking. I tried emailing, his preferred way of contact, and I got zero response still. I was devastated, hurt, furious, and felt horribly deceived. Our children are dying. This may mean nothing to you, but to us, it's our world. Please do not lie to parents who are so vulnerable. We are more than a business Mr. Pine. Thank God for Fallon Pharmacy. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Braun since 2004. Admittedly the old premises didn't look great, but the service was always friendly and efficient. Their "new" premises at Clark and Dickens is bright, clean and inviting. Not only do the staff call to tell you what's going on with your prescription order, they bend over backwards to solve your problems whether it's with the original prescription or potential billing problems. I have just had two of the most expensive dermatology prescriptions ever, which were still astronomical even with the coupon my doctor gave me. Sharon at Braun spent hours researching ways to get the cost down, speaking with my insurance company and the drug firms. There is no way I would have been able to work this out on my own; she went above and beyond what I expect of a pharmacist and she (legally) saved me a lot of money. read more

I purchased fertility shots here because my doctor's office said they were the cheapest because my insurance wasn't going to cover it. The shots were about $140 here and $195 at cvs and online. The pharmacist called me, after he received my prescription, and he was quite possibly the nicest pharmacist I have ever talked to. He was so cheerful, positive, and friendly. When you are going through infertility-positive people are great to talk to. When I picked up the medication everyone was very friendly and accommodating to me. I used this place for my cat's seizure meds. The service was rude and inconsiderate. They were also quite condescending when talking about the dispensing instructions. Also, the hours and location suck. They're only open until 4 p.m. on Saturdays and not open at all on Sundays with no real evening hours to speak of (I don't consider 7 p.m. evening when you're not located near an el). We're now using an online pharmacy that our vet recommended after I complained about this place. The meds are 60% cheaper (my jaw dropped when they quoted their price) and they offer free shipping. No need to drive through the Wrigleyville traffic and be treated like a moron anymore. read more

This pharmacy is so wonderful, I can't say enough glowing things except to express metric megatons of gratitude for being one of our only beacons of light during a time when we were stumbling around in the cold and dark. You know that you are dealing with genuinely compassionate people when they express sincere kindness and caring even though the actual pharmacy patient is a cat; in this case, our cherished kitty, Squeaker. So many people scoff at cat lovers even during times of great stress and dread of losing their beloved feline companion...I will never understand why so many people are cold or outright mean towards cats when anyone who's ever taken the time to build love and trust with a cat will tell you that the bond that forms is something so special -- once a person has taken the time to form that bond, usually they become cat lovers for life. But regardless of that, the folks at Braun were the kindest most compassionate people toward us and our fur baby during this terrifying and unbelievably stressful time. And the amazing thing is, they were so empathetic and didn't even know some of the following details: 1. I'm physically disabled and the cat in question is by my side every moment of every day and every second of every night. He gives me a tangible, touchable, huggable reason every day to be positive and not give up hope. 2. I have a very rare condition that impairs my vision to the point of legal blindness much of the time...my cat, Squeaker, alerts me to all sorts of things I wouldn't otherwise know and is all around helpful when my vision is severely impaired. He is an essential part of maintaining my safety and well being during the worst times. And 3. While my husband is working, oftentimes Squeaker is my sole companion for hours on end. As sick as I often am, he not only provides essential comfort (instinctively knowing when I need him the most) but no matter how bad I feel, Squeaker always gives me a reason to get up and care for his needs...which in turn gives me purpose, which so many disabled people wither without. But the incredible people at Braun were compassionate beyond anything I've ever experienced toward our beloved Squeaker without even knowing essential vital roll he plays in my healthcare and the health of our little family. Now that is a rare thing indeed. In fact, the care and incredible service we received at Braun is unequivocally priceless. We could say it a thousand times and it still wouldn't feel like enough, thank you so much to the superlative people at Braun. My physician uses this pharmacy and I decided to go along with their recommendations. They told me that they are great and they deliver meds at home. My insurance company uses Prime Therapeutics shipping company and I had gotten meds through them NEVER WAS I CHARGE FOR SHIPPING. LITTLE that I know i was told over the phone the amount of copay to pay, NEVER ONCE TOLD there is a charge for delivery within ILLINOIS ?? How ridiculous is that. The worse is that I WAS NOT TOLD . MY COPAY was 30 and they charge 10 more bucks ! !! I"M not cheap but its simply ridiculous. DO NOT USE MAIL ORDERS FROM THIS PHARMACY YOU'LL GET CHARGE. They are incredibly helpful and really seem to care about their customers. Before I was helped, the person working the front counter was asking a customer how far away they lived, because he wanted to make sure the prescription would remain cold on the customer's drive home. When I went to pay for my prescription, I learned that my insurance did not properly cover my prescription as much as I expected. They worked with me and gave me fewer doses, to help me afford what I needed now, so I had time to resubmit/work with my insurance. I saw three other customers come in while I was there, and they were equally helpful and thoughtful with everyone. read more

I, like others on here, use Braun's for my dog's prescriptions and with the one obvious exception of Kim B. below, I agree with everyone else. They are very professional, my orders are always filled correctly and on time, and I trust them completely when it comes to taking care of my dog. I highly recommend them, whether you're using Braun's from afar using UPS or from down the street. In terms of the pharmacy being dirty... I think this is sort of a ridiculous claim. It's pretty small in terms of customer space (plenty of room but tiny compared to the gigantic Walgreens of the world) so there really isn't much room for a person to critique. I've always found it clean and organized. Even when it wasn't (which I find very difficult to believe), it is a very small space and they've always been very attentive to what's going on in customer space. Again, hard to believe.... Anyway. Rambling. Go here. It's great. Very trustworthy and honest pharmacy, local business, good business... 'nuff said. read more

i'll echo the praises - I get my Ramonacita's vet meds compounded here. It's such a great option to have liquified medication - one little squirt and she's off running (as opposed to shoving your fingers down the throat or a squirming kitty, only to have her spit it out 2 seconds later). Service has always been nothing but personable, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend this place, particularly for the pet medication option of compounding, it costs a bit more, but the difference in administration and my pet's comfort level is priceless! read more

Braun helped me in 2007 when my one cat developed a hard to diagnose and treat lung infection. Today, they don't have pickup available, but they are calling to make sure my other cat's medication gets courier delivered to me, "oh, and does she like chicken, tuna, or salmon flavoring?" I cannot say enough great things. They called me back in under ten minutes with our plan and my meds will be brought to me (important since I moved out of the neighborhood, and do not have a car) by the end of the day. They were super nice on the phone! I was thrilled when my vet mentioned them for her specialty meds - these won't interact with her tummy meds, and I'm just thrilled they exist and provide the fabulous service that they do. Use them! Despite the fact that I wasn't going to be one of their customers, Braun still put in the extra effort to make sure I could get my medication from the one online pharmacy that my insurance would allow. I have had impeccable service--always with friendliness and concern.. There have been many instances that required extra time and care, such as dealing with an insurance company, and this was done with a genuine willingness to help (followed up by progress reports to alleve worry) .The veterinary pharmacy is superb (six kitties can testify!), as well, and home delivery is more than prompt and has never failed--even in the worst weather. I have never taken the time to write an online review before, but this pharmacy was great to me and deserves to have all the potential customers out there know. My cat is sick, and in serious need of medication that usually comes in powder form. He has not been eating much, so it was becoming very difficult to make sure he got his medication. My vet said Braun Drugs can make powder medications into capsules... the only pharmacy in the area that she knew of that could. It's great news, considering my cat handles pills and capsules very well. The prescription was called in at the end of the business day on Thursday. I paid by phone and requested an overnight (Saturday) delivery. I was feeling nervous on Friday and wanted to follow up to ensure I was getting the medication this weekend. I felt silly for calling again, but the man on the phone was so kind. He told me never to hesitate calling, that pets are family members ... and, I should call for any reason to put my mind at ease. I know it sounds like a small thing, but my situation has really been stressful and his compassionate costumer service was just what I needed in that moment. I am not surprised to see all the other people on here who are applauding them for their wonderful service. Businesses who make it a priority to be so nice to their customers (particularly ones they do not know, like me) deserve all the positive ratings they can get. You'll also notice I've only Yelper for businesses I want to support and give 5 star ratings because they were awesome so for me to write a bad review means a lot(I see many others gave them a 1 star rating as well) Terrible experience/service. Saturday I got my cat from the vet and needed to pick up medicine. It was pouring rain so I called at 3:50 telling them I would be there in 10 minutes for his medicine he needed since the next day they would be closed. She said that was fine. At 3:58 I tried calling again to tell them I was 2 blocks away and the girl had already shut off the phones. At 4:01 I arrived(closing time of 4:00) and the door was locked, all lights were off and nobody was there. The girl closed shop early to leave at 4 or earlier when she knew I was on the way. HORRIBLE business! Aren't you supposed to care about animals if you work at an animal pharm! I wasn't coming to buy a shirt. I was coming to get medication for my poor cat who spent 2 days at the vet undergoing surgery. read more

I am sorry to say that I had a similar experience as Kim B. I love to support local businesses, but not this one! Their staff just makes too many mistakes!!!!! The first time I brought in an RX, I was given half the amount of pills allotted for the price they charged me. When I brought up the issue, they promptly corrected the error. Still, I was a little disturbed that I had to catch the mistake. Their second error was MUCH WORSE... I brought in an Rx for my dog w/ instructions in big bold letters from my vet - and I verbally explained - the type of medication needed and the type of medication that would give my dog a life-threatening reaction. I was shocked when they gave me the WRONG medication that could have killed my dog. I fortunately caught the mistake before leaving the store. I will NEVER be back! read more

I first met the Braun team before I could speak (as a baby) and today I am 33. They have treated me like family, talked/treated me through every imaginable situation and always shown be sincere responsible and warm care. So frustrating. Yesterday, pharmacy called and said it a prescription would be ready at 6PM. I asked for 5PM because we would be in the area en route to a meeting at 5:30PM. Person yesterday told me that was unlikely, but would call me if they could get it done. No phone call. I called today and learned the script was in fact ready at 5PM. Today, I told the woman on phone that while it was ready at 5PM yesterday according to her, no phone call meant I did not show up. She snarled "I apologize on his behalf" and slammed down the phone. I'll pick this up today, but I encourage anyone to try other pet pharmacies in town or prepare for dropped promises such as I experienced. read more

No one called me to tell me my new insurance had denied my medication. They just charged me without notifying/asking me if I still wanted to proceed. I did NOT want to still proceed. My insurance/I called and canceled the order and asked for a refund. The man said he would cancel and refund. The next day the medication I canceled was on my front door. I then had to call AGAIN and spend over a week back and forth with these people. Now I am having to deal with them saying they accidentally refunded me 2x yet I only have one refund in my bank account so I'm going to guess I'll have to spend another week calling back and forth with Braun when they revert a refund I never got 2x and will once again end up out $260. Also, they are having me send back the medication that I have had now. I haven't opened it at all but find it out that a medicine place would ask me to send back meds. I would never want medication that was sent to someone by accident then sent back. Absolutely ridiculous for a fertility pharmacy to make me have to deal with all of this. read more

This pharmacy was recommended by my vet at Blum, and I have been quite happy with them. They compound my cat's thyroid medicine into a cream that I rub in the pinna of his ear. They also put his Prozac (he is 17 and has anxiety, but so do I) into a liquid that I shoot into his mouth. He doesn't like it, but it's a lot easier than pilling him. For now he is willing to eat his blood pressure med in a pill pocket, so we are set. Everyone has been friendly, helpful and professional. The meds are not inexpensive, but you are getting something that is "handmade" and as my own doctor said, the meds are probably a higher quality than what humans get from factory-type pharmacies. I have not used the delivery service. There is a little parking space in front. One of the guys told me that if I couldn't find a place, to stay in the car and he would bring the meds out, but I haven't needed to do this. I will continue to use Braun as long as they can come up with devious ways to get medication into a fussy cat. read more
