I've gotten the Lukaniko plate a couple times now. Every part of the dish is tasty. Great pitas, bread, salad, hummus, etc. Some day I will try another dish, but this is a great little hole in the wall Greek restaurant. I forget about this place because it is a little bit off of my usual path, but I hope to start coming more. I have ended up at Daphne's near the Movie theater on a few occasions, but this place has a little better quality food. Awesome greek food! I love to eat mediterranean food in the Los Angeles area & when I visited the OC, a friend of mine who lives in Laguna made me try Bravo. It was so amazing to finally have authentic greek food for a change. They have a great atmosphere & you can tell their cooks have thrown in some family recipes. Healthy, happy, & a lot to share! Loooove the food here. My dad and I ordered food for the whole family (5 total) with 2 appetizers (babaganoush, falafel) and 3 desserts (2 tiramisu and 1 order of baklava, 2 pieces) and it cost about $130 not including tip. We took it to go for everyone. I ordered the kebab plate I believe with rice and kebab meat, salad, yogurt sauce, and pita included. Very tasty plate, the only issue for me was that the salad had a lot of soggy and rotting lettuce pieces. The balsamic dressing was great and was not too acidic. The babaganoush was amazing with the pita and the falafel was tasty (3 lil pieces). The rest of the family ordered dishes with shish-kebabs and for the most part they liked the chicken. Its nice to see mom-and-pop places opening anywhere in Orange County. Portola Hills definitely needs it since its a relatively newer area and the majority of businesses in these newer areas are large corporate chains. I was here for lunch on Saturday. I wanted to order the Combo (sandwich, salad and drink) for $7.37, but it looks like they only serve those Monday through Friday. Kinda lame if you ask me. Most places have some sort of lunch special even on a Saturday and Sunday. Give it a few months and I bet anything they will offer this at lunch time everyday of the week. Without the special, your looking at mid $9 for lunch which is minus the salad (which I have hear is hit and miss anyways). Anywho... I went half and half on a Gyro (Beef/Lamb) and a Doner Kabob both in a pita with lettuce and tomatoes. Also got a side of Dolmas (or Grape leaves with Beef as stated on their menu for the white people in Portola =) ). The Gyro and Doner Kabob were both about average. Same goes for the Dolmas. The food was good but nothing outstanding. To be honest, we both left still a little hungry. Had we ordered something else, it would have pushed the total even higher (for 2 people, like closer to 30 and not mid 20s) and for lunch, that is no good. Bravo Avo is average. The food is good but the pricing on certain days has a lot of be desired. I arrived on Saturday just after 12 and there were only two other people in the establishment upon entering and only one other couple entering by the time we finished our meal. The peak of lunch and only 4 people. Maybe its because the price is higher on the weekend? Had I come on a week day, it would have been a 3 star. However taking into account the the price on the weekend, its a 2 star. I hate to say this to a small business, but... avoid this place on the weekend since you get a much better deal during the week for lunch. read more

YUMMY!!! I have been craving falafel for weeks! Decided to give this gem a try and so glad I did. From the minute I got out of my car it was great service. The waitress opened the door for me, the owner (I assume) was at the register. I asked for a menu to look at and he explained it all to me and even said "there are pictures above". I said OK I already know what I want and I ordered the Falafel plate! While I was waiting he gave me a sample with some hummus to try and if that was an indication of the food I was going to get, I was in Falafel Heaven! It was so good! Not dry, spicy enough, flavorful. For about $10-$12, I got 6 Falafels, hummus, pita bread (made there), salad and rice. I could not even finish it all! I will be back for sure! read more

Great, fresh food and the owners are very welcoming and happy to see you. I actually heard him on the phone, ending an order someone was going to pick up by telling the caller to drive safely on the way over... this just doesn't happen very often. Most of the time I call a business (or even if I'm standing inside the business) the employees seem to want to be somewhere else. Huge fan of Bravo Avo. I've eaten at a fair bit of Orange County Mediterranean places, and I'd say Bravo Avo along with GG's in laguna are the best of the bunch, and considering how inexpensive Bravo Avo's is, you really can't go wrong going here. I pretty much switch off ordering the seven hour lamb and the gyro plate, both are delicious. It's quite nice how during lunchtime it's more of a fast food place, and at dinner they bring out real plates and wait on you. Ordered the Lule Combo and side of Falafel with hummus. Probably some of the most tender, juicy, flavorful chicken and beef kabobs I've ever had. This is about a 4.5 star affair. STAFF -- owner/chef very friendly and helpful with the menu and explains items in detail with his passion clearly evident. PLATING -- nice presentation; price is "fair" for the portion size but not overly generous HUMMUS & FLAT BREAD -- the texture of the hummus isn't smooth or creamy; there is an abundance of garlic in it which we like; there isn't any olive oil or herbs/spices by taste or sight which are things I normally love about this dish; this isn't my preferred rendition of this appetizer but it tastes very good...so I will leave it at that LAMB SHOULDER with SIDE SALAD & RICE -- the lamb is shredded, tender and flavorful; it appears residual meat juices were dripped across the rice and sauteed veggies which made them taste AMAZING; the salad dressing tastes of a morph between a creamy Italian and a dijon mustard and it works very well GREEK SAUSAGE -- slightly spicy; reminds me of Italian sausage (gray colored variety) with plenty of fennel present; it tastes very good BAKLAVA -- two medium size pieces per plate; there isn't any rose water which is good as at Persian restaurants they tend to overuse this pungent ingredient; very light on honey (some pieces had essentially none); three of the four pieces ranged from having ZERO chopped nuts inside to having barely any; I think the nuts were walnuts but it was hard to tell given the lack of quantity; one piece consisted of 10 layers of phyllo dough, no honey, and no nuts...it was as if someone made these while watching their favorite TV program; there is very little to no cinnamon (which I'm appreciative of); they need better quality assurance measures if this is an in-house item or possibly consider another bakery if an outside bakery made these for them. We came here on a Friday, greeted by the owner, very welcoming with choices on a wide variety of wine. Ambiance is casual. Locally owned. I ordered the lamb, 7 hour something, and my boyfriend ordered the combo plate, gyro and chicken. All of which were delicious. If you like garlic, you must order the garlic potatoes. We both had a glass of white wine but have no idea what type it was, just some generic white. Our food came on plastic plates, plastic utensils, and paper napkins. The food is good. Several of my coworkers and I were looking for a place to eat to celebrate some birthdays. One of us just looked up what had the highest Yelp reviews in the area and this place popped up. We decided to go and were all pleasantly surprised. The building itself was not too big, but we managed to fit 10 people together anyway. The staff was friendly and everything was clean. It does have a bit of a fast food feel to it, but that doesn't bother me. The food came out pretty fast which was nice. I had ordered the 7hr roasted lamb, which was delicious. We went for dinner and it was full service restaurant for dinner time. I think Lunch time is more casual. Fresh pita bread was really good. Portion is not huge but its good size! I wish I could post a video, but this my "Lemon chicken soup"... a whopping 3 tiny pieces of chicken..hardly any rice, and maybe 5 bits of carrot. He as well as the staff, gave exceptional service, and the food was delicious! After the meal, our waitress brought out a tray with all their dessert items which was a nice touch... Clean simple interior decor with optional outside dining The food is fresh and definitely more authentic and qualified to advertise Greek and Mediterranean food than a Daphne's. The popular dish of Chicken a La Avo may be ordered mild or spicy. Both dishes were a hit. I favored a lamb dish which is offered cooked several different ways. I had the seven hour roasted lamb. A good size portion with wonderful flavors surrounded by fresh vegetables. Pita bread was hot off the grill and delicious. We dined early at 5.30pm so the restaurant was not busy. The owner/chef, Avo waited on the table, answered questions and the service was good with the constant refill of water glasses without interruptions. So many restaurant servers are constantly stopping by the table asking how the food is. I am grateful when you are allowed to eat your meal first and then decide! read more

I ate this take out at a friend's place today and I was amazed. I had to know where he got it from and give them a review. The quality of the gyro meat was excellent. Very juicy and not dried up like other gyro places. Secondly I was impressed by the generous amount of meat in the gyro. So many other places skimp out on the meat. Thirdly, the sauces were excellent. The yellow sauce that comes with the fries is delicious and I ate way too much of it. The gyro was one to be remembered.
