Take out order at mustard Café
    Tony J.

We had a delicious takeout order from Mustard Café today! So very, very nice to eat eat healthy. Takeout order included grilled vegetables deliciously seasoned grilled chicken, And a wonderfully tasting flat iron steak! Maria, the waitress hostess she does it all! She knows that we eat healthy, because we eat quite often, they use healthy oils cooking the food, such as olive oil! In addition, The place is immaculately clean. Important to note that, The menu is very multicultural a bit of the the best of everything, which is perfect foothill Ranch!

This location is in a slightly hidden strip mall. I stopped in for a late lunch, walking in at 2:25 and not realizing they close at 3. I immediately noticed how exceptionally clean the place is and that the interior has a welcoming, comfortable vibe. At the counter, I ordered a pastrami sandwich with chips, a drink, and a chocolate chip cookie. I thought the prices were a bit on the high side. I grabbed a bag of chips from a bin and poured a drink from the soda fountain. The amiable woman at the counter handed me a plate with my cookie and let me know she'd bring my sandwich to my table when it was ready. The sandwich was not a traditional deli pastrami sandwich but the Mustard Cafe version. Served on pillowy soft ciabatta, a satisfactory amount of warm, tender pastrami was covered with fresh, crunchy lettuce, juicy tomato, melted swiss cheese, mayo, and of course - mustard. It normally comes with onion but I asked not to include it. It was a delicious sandwich and, while the bread initially looked to be overwhelming, it actually was fine. The cookie was dry and the chocolate chips were sparse. To put it nicely, it wasn't my favorite chocolate chip cookie. I was the only customer in the place as they started to mop, turned off the television screens, scooched chairs under tables, turned off some lighting, and moved outdoor signs inside. I checked my yelp app and realized they were closing in 20 minutes. Their activity made me feel like I was being pushed to leave so I ate far too quickly and didn't enjoy my meal as much as I should have. I firmly believe businesses should clean and close after the doors are locked not when you still have customers. I know workers want to hop in their cars and go home right at closing time but this is one of my pet peeves so I knocked a star off.

Stopped in for breakfast today and Maria assisted me. Her smile lights up the place and she is professional and kind. I ordered the omelet with spinach, tomato, onion, avocado, sausage, and Swiss cheese. It came with potatoes and sourdough toast. The meal was fantastic and the ambiance soothing. A great spot for good food, people, service and ambiance. Highly recommended

A very quaint and casual spot in Foothill Ranch worth checking out. The owner is very friendly and welcoming with prompt service. The food is consistently great and the place is family-friendly with an atmosphere that is not too loud. Definitely worth coming back.

I love finding places that aren't big chains, and even though I learned later there are a couple of other locations, this one still feels cozy. It's small, inviting, and has its own personality--plus theres the option for outdoor seating. I stopped in for brunch and tried the Shakshuka for the first time... and wow. I went out on a limb but every bite was amazing. The food here may look casual at first glance, but the flavors are not. My server was so friendly, helpful and attentive. While I was there, I noticed so many regulars coming in--some just picking up to-go orders--and and with the conversations I overheard you could tell they are definitely often visit. supports this place. I already know I'll be back and yes, I'll be ordering that same dish.

This was our first time at Mustard Cafe, heard great things from others so we walked in excited to try. I'm not the type of person to write reviews but I want to share my experience so they can improve their customer service or you can think twice about coming here. First they ignored us waiting to order, then were rude taking our order and didn't direct us to water or a seat. It was not busy by any means, he just kept chatting with customers. I understand if low staffing was an issue, but the attitude is inexcusable. You pay at the front before getting your food and I still tipped 20% which I know now was a mistake. We waited so long for food that it came cold without an apology or acknowledgment of the wait. I've never asked for a new plate before but the bread was soggy and my eggs were cold. He was rude when we brought the food back and didn't even remake it, just put new eggs on top. Wasn't apologetic or trying to make it up to us. I worked in food service for years and it's common to apologize or offer some kind of compensation if the circumstance warrants it. I bet the food would have been delicious if it was hot. Sadly, I won't be back.

Clean and cozy restaurant. It was interesting to order at the counter before you sit. They will bring food out to your table. So, you pay first, not after you are done. We ordered 4 dishes for 5 people total. You may want to order 1 dish per person tho for their food portion is a bit less than I expected. They use noticibly fresh ingredients. I love all the dishes I tried.

Again! Excellent service all around. Cashier/Server Maria was on point as usual. The cooks in the back were outstanding again, the food prepared looked good, and it was delicious. We got to meet the owner and his daughter today. Cool guy, amazing work ethic. Very welcoming. Love the atmosphere of the place.

As far as cafe's go, Mustard Cafe & Grill was very average. The bread on the Avacado toast was lack luster and took away from the avocado itself. The French toast also seemed flavorless and burnt on the outside. However, where mustard cafe thrives is its variety and friendly service. The inviting and calm restaurant gives a homey feel, I hope to try it again. The espresso I ordered was pulled perfectly , and the staff was so friendly!

Avocado toast, side of bacon/sausage, French toast in the background, and a couple cups of coffee.

Ordered the salad and the Olivich sandwich with meat. I noticed several customers going up to the counter to check on their food, so figured they were pretty overwhelmed but after waiting 40min for 2 items, and getting no follow-up from a gentleman who said he was going to check on my order (I saw him leave instead), I asked them to cancel my order. The guy told me to give him 5 min. to get it done. I was happy to get my food 10min later! This is where my disappointment happens.... After waiting 50min for a salad and a sandwich, they forgot to put the dressing in the bag and according to the menu, the sandwich should have been on a baguette but it was on more like a French roll. Tasty, but I love baguettes which is why I ordered it. Maybe a "I'm sorry" piece of baklava would have made the experience a little better? Next time I will turn around and leave if they are really busy. Better to go on a slow night.

5 stars for the goma matcha latte and milk bread with crunchy pearls!…read more The goma matcha latte 5/5 had a black sesame paste that was like the black sesame version of smooth peanut butter! One could probably eat it by the spoonful! Such a complex flavor complement to the matcha latte. The matcha latte (4/5) felt fairly strong (I estimate 4g at least), and the mango puree tasted real/ fresh but was nothing special. However, I did like that it was not too sweet. Caveat: I am partial to mango/coconut milk or mango sticky rice matcha lattes. The goma matcha was worth the $8 pricetag. Tip: Matcha Mondays=10% off matcha drinks! The mango one maybe was worth it due to the amount of matcha, but I do feel like I could make it at home. The milk bread ($5.50) was soft, with a delightful bursting sweet cream filling topped with those shite pearly crunchies-- unique and delicious. I also loved the kinako an pan (sweet bread with red bean filling, $5.50) because of the nostalgic flavors, but also because the azuki bean had a nice crunchy sugar quality. It was on the drier side the day after purchase, but I enjoyed it. Service was cheerful and speedy. The space is pretty large with probably as much outdoor seating as indoor, and there were a few open spots at 1:30 on a Monday. Parking was plentiful in the shared plaza lot with some shady spots. I would drive back just for that goma matcha latte!! Also to try a few other breads or for a nice friend date spot to sit outside.

This spot is pretty busy around 12pm because people are eating and some studying. there will be a line when there is a lot of people. The workers are cool, but because I went during a busy time I felt like I was rushed when ordering especially because it was my first time there. I took a look at the menu while I was waiting in line and geez their sandwiches are pretty pricey; hoinestly everything there was pretty pricey. The Goma Matcha seems to be a very popular drink here, so that is what influenced me to try it and it was mid. The matcha flavor was washed out by the black sesame, the drink was not really cold, and it was not filled to the top like I saw other drinks. So there is a little bit of inconsistencies there. At least it was not overly sweet like some places were. The thing that really got me to dislike the drink was the fact that it was $8?! I understand that there are ingredients, labor, etc. to consider into pricing, but I have been to other places that do not charge that much. The drink did not taste good enough to be worth $8. So in my opinion I give the Goma Matcha Latte a 1.5/5 The Mango Vanilla Custard.... The bread was good kind of like a cream puff feel. the custard was very liquid-y when I tried it in the car. As I bit there was filling that oozed out, so I am glad there is enough filling inside. I put it in the fridge when I got home and after a while I took another bite... I think it is better while cold than staying outside of the fridge on display. This pastry was $5.50... a little pricey for it, but the taste was good overall. I give this a 3.5/5 overall this place receives and avg rating of 2.5/5 please take this review with a grain of salt. this is a personal review. your experience may have been/ will be different.

Once I dropped in with my nephews (3 and 7 at the time) for lunch and enjoyed it however we had an odd experience where one of them wanted a sandwich dry (meaning no condiments) and we were told by the waitress that no alterations were allowed on the menu. That was a year or so ago. Moving on I thought it was strange but didnt think too much of it other than them not liking kids. Yesterday I stopped in solo after a 30 mile canyon ride and asked for a IVL (Latte) to go (in there small defense they did ask if I wanted for there or to go). They made it quickly which was great. It was maybe 9am and there were maybe 3 tables seated in their side outdoor space with maybe 6 cars in the lot, it was not packed at all. I went to walk thru the door to the side outdoor seating just to look around and maybe sit for 5 minutes and was told I wasnt allowed back there as they're 'full service'. My assumption was that meant they wanted to keep the tables open for people who eat there which is fine. So I said no worries and explained I just wanted to look around instead of sit and then was told yet again I couldn't even go through the door nor sit indoors. I was told my only option was to take my coffee out front. It really felt as if I wasnt welcome there at all. It was a very odd experince to be honest. I've worked in customer service for over 20 years myself and all that they had to say to me was 'you can look around and sit for 5 minutes or until we start to get busy'. Instead whoever trains the staff here seems to train that of it's to go then people arent welcome to stay even for 5 minutes. As for the drink itself. Instead of making a latte with an expresso shot it was simply milk with brewed coffee sat atop (very bitter at that). Which was really odd as I could see they had a full expresso machine setup. Not sure if it was intentionally made bad but once again it felt as if I wasnt welcome there. *Updating below in response to the owner/managers response* 1. Regarding the latte with brewed pour over on top I didn't get that information from anyone. That WAS the drink I was served. Ive had maybe 5000 lattes in my life time from about 500 different cafes. Maybe someone pulled a really bad (over extracted shot) but it was 100% like a pour over on top of milk. 2. I never tried to use the emergency side exit/gate. I tried to use the adjoining door way. 3. I completely get the outside is reserved seating only now. That could have been explained friendlier on the spot. The approach of the situation could have been a sure you can take a look but cant sit. Simple. 4. When I went with my nephews it wasnt a question of not having a kids menu it was not allowing the slightest of alterations (no condiments) for kids who are typically picky at a certain age. 5. Ill agree maybe its just not a good alignment.

I'm someone that loves food tripping and breakfast burritos are something I eat often, but this one was other-worldly. The custom pick of protein, the cheese, and jammy sunny side up eggs inside, the crispy tater tots, and the tenderly crunchy griddled tortilla; it was incredible. And if you think I'm overplaying how good it is, then your loss; you don't get to try it. Anyway besides how good the burrito is, service is great! They made my food quick and were attentive to the things I needed. The inside is nice and there's good seating inside, maybe not enough for a big party, but there's a couple two-top tables and a bar seat counter (no bar, just bar counter). HIGHLY recommend! I've been living in RSM for the past couple years and I have zero clue how I'm just finding out about this. Gem alarm!

**This review is only for their breakfast burrito**…read more CK's cousin introduced us to this place while we were visiting town because she said it has the best breakfast burrito in the OC. CK & I were a bit skeptical, but we were surprised. Definitely one of the best breakfast burrito's I've had in the OC - especially when fresh! Made with your protein of choice, sunny side-up eggs, tater tots, pico de Gallo, cheddar cheese, and a flour tortilla - I ordered it with chorizo and CK ordered with steak. The steak are thinly sliced - not carne asada style like I assumed, but it was still good. My favorite had to be with the chorizo. Everything in the burrito was well put together and created a good balance. I think the star of the show in the burrito was the tater tots because they're the perfect crispyness and I think it's what the tied the breakfast burrito together. The breakfast burrito comes with a side of salsa verde, but there are additional condiment sauces above the trashcan. Definitely coming back for more when I visit!
