My mom wanted to travel through South America, down to Argentina and then hop on a cruise to Antarctica. I've always seen deals for cruises to Antarctica from Argentina. So I had her call Albert for some advice on this type of journey. To my surprise, my mom had a terrible phone conversation with Albert. Not only was Albert rude to her, he criticized her for supposedly confusing him with her questions. The most shocking part was when he questioned why she would travel to Antarctica and that it was super hot! Um, really? I have no idea why he would think Antarctica is hot. Last I checked, it's -24 degrees Fahrenheit down there! And this was just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended). He then proceeded to tell her that he was really busy and that she was wasting his time. Told her to just go to his office instead. I understand if she's not a customer and just a random caller with questions. However, she was a referral from a customer. Even if she was just a random caller, why be rude to the person? The whole "Antarctica is super hot" comment was just perplexing. A travel agent made this comment...a travel agent. And to make her feel stupid for asking about cruises to Antarctica was unnecessary considering these cruises DO exist. The poor treatment of a referral from a regular customer was very disappointing. Needless to say, I'll be searching for a new travel agency.

Flight was not included in the tour, we were told to secure our own flight arrangement! This is rather bizarre, people use travel agencies to make the whole process, easy and cohesive. That's just the beginning! Here's more: 1) Luggage transfer: We were told no worries, our luggage was going to be checked in through our final destination to Akita. However, the moment we checked in at LAX we were told differently. We actually had to pick them up and take it to the terminal for the connecting flight. 2) Ritz made it sound easy, told us that upon arriving in Tokyo, the gate to the connecting flight to Akita is just "a few steps away" from terminal 3 to terminal 1. Wrong again. To get from terminal 3 to 1, we had to take a shuttle bus, which was about a 5 to 10 minute ride. Keep in mind, we had our check in luggage with us, take it up to the bus and back down to the next terminal. 3) Currency: Ritz's representative told us "don't worry about it just use your credit cards". This was very misleading, because a lot of places in Japan accepted cash payment only. Needless to say, those who did not exchange currency prior to the trip had to scramble to exchange cash while in Japan. 4) The guide seemed green - can use better crowd management skills. While leading the group towards the bullet train station, she did not make sure that everybody is following and accounted for. One got separated from our group and until we told her that somebody was missing, she had no clue! We had to suggest to her to please occasionally stop and make sure everybody was still together. Navigating through a sea of people getting on the bullet train is not easy and keeping the group together should be top of a tour guide's mind. 5) the boat ride to Lake Tazawa was canceled due to inclement weather. The agency was not thoroughly prepared for a Plan B. We were brought to a samurai town to "visit" 3 Samurai houses - but as it turned out, we were only going to see the houses from the outside. Entrance fee to the houses were not included. A few of us who chose to go in paid for our own entrance fees. The rest went back to the bus to wait. As of this writing, we are waiting to hear if the group will be refunded for the cancellation of the boat trip. The group's overall sentiment is disappointment and to never use this agency going forward. If you choose to, we recommend you ask a lot of questions and doublecheck the information they give you.

Wow! What happened to this tour agency? When I took a tour with them in 2008 they were great! Our…read moretour guide was James and he was very organized, very knowledgeable, and really accommodated us when we had problems. He even gave us money to use the toilet when we hadn't exchanged any of our money into Euros/Pounds yet! (They make you pay to use the loo in Europe!) We took the 17 day tour of Europe. The countries we visited during this tour were Italy, France, Britain, Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Belgium! The tour was awesome and its a shame they don't offer it anymore (at least not what I can see on their website). They might offer it though because I remember the tour was only advertised in their brochures but not on their website. So make sure to call them to double check! The tour was approximately $3000 for all those countries and included many meals! It was such a deal! Our main transportation to Europe was by plane, but travel to the adjacent countries were by bus or high speed train (Eurorail). The tour was mostly an Asian tour and our guide spoke Mandarin and English, so I did not have any trouble understanding what was said. The only thing I would have changed were the many meals at Chinese restaurants. Unless we did their optional tours, where an ethnic meal of the country we were visiting was offered, all other meals were at Chinese restaurants! This was mostly because many of the people on our tour were Chinese/Asian elderly people (and I guess they like what they are accustomed to?) Thankfully I did not get sick from eating any of the food which is an indication that the restaurants Ritz Tours took us to were clean and sanitary! (I have a sensitive stomach) Overall (in 2008), I thought Ritz Tour offered a very organized and well planned tour! I'm so grateful I got to visit all those countries! Quick update: Just read the filtered reviews for this business and Kelly C indicated that there are two types of tours with Ritz. One tour is for the Chinese speaking Americans (the one I went on apparently...) going to Asia and Europe (ritztours.net) and the other is towards English speaking Americans going to Asia (ritztours.com). Check out her review. It was flagged (dunno why?) but very thorough on how the tours are like.

If you consider any upgrades, the hotel in Athens ONLY may be worth it. The hotels in Mykonos & Santorini were great. We enjoyed our tour with Nikols. The earpieces allowed us to hear throughout the tour. After the tour we wandered around Platka looking for food & shopping. We were escorted back to the ferry to leave for Mykonos. You must load your bags onto the ferry and leave your bags to go to your seats. The seats and ambience on the ferries are nice but the boarding and disembarking is a bit rough. You can also purchase food on the ferries. Mykonos was wonderful and the hotel was splendid. The walking tour with Kevin was nice, informative & he showed us all the great places & even gave us recommendations of restaurants. The food was fresh, little Venice was a great time! Then another ferry ride to Santorini which was a bit cramped but the hotel was gorgeous. The walking tour was nice. The experience was a bit rushed/brief but no complaints. It wasn't all that interesting but it was beautiful. We went on the catamaran sunset tour. AMAZING! We did lots of shopping at the markets near the hotel and went to Oia one evening for dinner and more shopping. The ferry back to Athens was very spacious and comfortable for the 8 hours of travel. 1 more day in Athens and then departed for home. Overall it was a great trip. When we…read morewere stopping by a hotel to pick up people, all the other tour group buses were nicer than ours. The bus was very uncomfortable, especially seats at the back, which are even more shallow. We had to sit in this old bus for the first and the last days. Last day was ok since seats change and moving to the front is more spacious. The tour guide was mediocre, talked way too much. Yet not really useful information, repeating things over and over again. Yet she was super unclear about were to meet up and unorganized. Also her attitude was not very friendly, rude at times. Still we have to pay the tip, she really deserved less than $8 per day. I remembered the morning of the 2nd day, we had to wake up as early as 5:10AM to go to Antelope Canyon. Which is okay, because ai understand that traveling with a group, we must head out early and work as a team. I was expecting at least a "good morning, how was your sleep" to everyone. NOO she didn't , she just asked everyone " what's your group number, it felt like counting sheeps. The agent Miss Li told me that the tip will be $8 per day per person. I have confirmed this with her. But in reality, the second day tour guide, a man this time, asked for $10. This was not what the agent told me. I don't like to be lied to. If you want to charge $10, then say so in the beginning, don't change the price from what you originally have promised me. It's not the problem of the extra $2, it's about keeping your words and being trustworthy, which they have failed to do. The guy tour on the second day was very knowledgeable about the places we were visiting. However he only used Chinese. My boyfriend do not speak Chinese, and same goes for few other people on the bus. Inconsiderate. The only good thing about the trip was the attraction places itself, the Antelope Canyon and Las Vegas. And also the cheap price of about $230 per person including tips and hotels and transportation. We got the buy two get one free option. But with no third person. If a third person comes, it would be even cheaper.

Supera did an excellent job in showing us the highlights of this beautiful country. We were spoiled and treated like VIPs throughout. Highlights include: Temples - so many Buddhist temples, beautiful and unique. Elephant sanctuary - A highlight! Up close and personal with these majestic creatures. We walked with them, made and fed them medicinal treats. Tuk Tuk tour - a VIP tour of the streets of Chang Mai. So fun and enjoyable. Hotels resorts - beautiful, elegant and top service including massages and buffet breakfasts. Food - Supera goes out of their way to handpick local specialties that most tourists don't know about. The food was unique and delicious. A real treat. Transportation - buses, longboats, flights - all handled for us, including all luggage transfers. Our tour guide Betty Tsai. What a pro!
