Fun blends like Bray-Zin-Hussy, a play of words on a quite nice Zinfandel with a fun label to boot. They're always attentive and so very helpful, get a bottle and have a picnic at Amador Flower Farm. Watch the ducks and the banty chickens while basking in the shade of the 400 year old oak tree. The Shenandoah appellation of Amador County produces some of the finest wines in California, with the snooty pretense of other areas. We've been on many trips to Amador but this was our first time at Bray. We came here on recommendations from a friend and it was great because we didn't need an appointment so it was very flexible. This is not some stuck-up winery - this is a fun place to be! They have picnic tables outside and it's a pretty small bar but there were very few other people there on a beautiful Saturday day so it wasn't overwhelming. The woman who was conducting our tasting was an absolute hoot! She was so entertaining while equally knowledgeable. She explained the various labels to us, let us revisit things, made recommendations and by the end of it - we had signed up for a wine club! Came for the wine, stayed for the personalities. We placed a reservation on a Sunday afternoon and were greeted immediately by super friendly staff. All-in-all I think we tried about 11 different wines. My favorites were the Tempranillo, La Dama Oscura (Sangiovese) and the Late Harvest Zin. The staff couldn't have been more hospitable, and in fact made us late for our next reservation, which honestly was probably a good thing looking back at it. Bray Vineyards has been around for a long time and is a popular destination for many Amador visitors. The winery and tasting room are located at the southern end of Shenandoah Road just outside of Plymouth. You must navigate a paved single lane road to drive back to the facility. Watch out for wild turkeys! The winery is somewhat rustic with a lot of country accents. The front door is on the north side of the building facing the loading dock area next to the bathtub. The interior is similar to a nice barn with the only wild animals being the occasional bachelorette party. You get a standard tasting menu of their average to above average wines in the classic Amador style with purchase refund. The signs of the farmer popping a wheelie are indicative of the place. Bray serves approachable wine in a relaxed country setting with nice staff and a fun atmosphere. read more

Wine is not so good here, it reminds me of the stuff that they call 2 buck chuck that you can pick up a bottle for a few bucks at a Grocery store. The day we came here there was one lady serving everybody and there was about 7 people so she was jumping every where. Love this place! How can you not love a place that has Brayzin Hussy Red wine? Also, they have signs up of a tractor driver doing a wheelie with a bottle of wine in his hand...that is awesome! This was the last winery we hit on our adventure last weekend. I'm so glad we made the trip. The people working were really friendly and I enjoyed most of their wines. The Brayzin Hussy Red was actually very nice and I had to buy a bottle to give to my Mom who is a redhead...and a brayzin hussy! I also left with a bottle of their Tempranillo which is a very smooth Spanish wine. I can't wait to come back for another bottle of hussy wine but that one will be for this hussy only ;-) read more

We went here today because of the great reviews. We are visiting in town and it was a last minute decision to go wine tasting after rafting. It was our very first stop and they told us no. They did not want to serve us. It is important to note 1) we were sober 2) the place was EMPTY! There was 14 of us total. So if you have a large (even if you are mellow) group, don't even bother. Bad customer service. We took our business elsewhere and bought bottles of wine at those accommodating and service forward wineries. Go to Turly or Scott Harvey were super accommodating and had great wine and service! read more

Along the winding road in you will notice a subtle change in the road side tractor signs from the regular yellow caution, to a tipping tractor with someone chugging wine.... The tone is set... If you come to Amador County wines, you want to come here. I like their wines, of course. Some are excellent. Some are good. None are less than that. The service is wonderful. Lovely locals (I say that because they know the wine and the area). Some of the best service you'll find (and that's at least half of the experience). For me, half of the reason of wine tasting is the experience. Respect the rules (Hello, Covid, I have a mask on when asked because I care for other people), as at any other winery. This was our second visit to this winery. Our first visit we purchased 3 cases. However, on this visit the person behind the counter was not busy and still preferred to not bother with us. At one point she asked us where we had been earlier in the day. Half way through answering her question she walked away. Her rude and unprofessional conduct were uncalled for. Authentic Portuguese wines approved by the Portuguese themselves. If the folks here are any reflection of the hospitality of the Portuguese people as a whole, then I'm hopping the next flight to Lisbon! The premises itself is classy and inviting. Beautiful olive trees line the road and the tasting room is a combination of classic style and modern comfort. The pours were generous and continuous. I'm sort of a boozer and I had to cut it short to make sure I could hang at our next destinations. I ended up bringing home a bottle of the Brayzin Hussy Red wine and their Cabernet Sauvignon. Bray really does have a beautiful vineyard. The rolling hills and green landscape are really fantastic. The trees in the vineyard are perfectly laid out for great photos. Not knowing anything about this winery, we went in and had a taste of a few of their wines. Our favorites were actually the whites that they had open, even though they were in short supply. Only a few cases remaining when we were there, but they both would make great table wines. I would also recommend that if you are a fan of port this is probably a good place to stop. They had a few different ports all of which were solid to my taste. We didn't find the reds to be to our liking, but that doesn't mean you wont! I'm fairly a wine newbie. The weird thing about this winery is that I didn't like any of the brayzins at all. I ended up getting the port dessert wine. They had two varieties. I ended up getting the first one that we tasted, which was the last wine in the tasting series. Customer service was alright. My friend paid first and got charged 3x of the price of the wine she bought. Good thing she asked for the receipt. The tasting room was pretty small, but not too crowded. read more

It is hard to give this review because the wine here was actually pretty solid, but after visiting other wineries in the area I just feel like this didn't shine as bright. What brought us to Bray was the fact that we wanted to go wine tasting but we were a little too early for most vineyards. Bray happened to be open, so we swung in. The wine here was good, and for $5 for a tasting, I wasn't upset at all. I'm not a huge wine drinker (more beer personally), so I can't say with an expert opinion how good or bad this wine is, but I was happy with it. We ended up really like the Sangiovese, so we got a bottle for ourselves. The best part is that if you buy a bottle it waves the tasting fee. Wonderful! Honestly the wine isn't what I have to fault them for. They also had some breathtaking grounds. I really wish it wasn't so cold out because it would have been fun to explore. I can imagine coming here in the summer with a nice little lunch and eating outside. The grounds are again and area where this place excels. Where the fault I found, and really the only thing that knocked them from a 4 to a 3, was the service. Now I've been to many small wineries and breweries before, and many times we've been the only people there. In those cases most wineries/breweries will love talking your ear off about their product and answering questions you have. My husband is really the brewer of the family, so he loves to talk about the wine/beer making process. We found ourselves in the wine tasting room alone with one of the owners who seemed nice enough. She just wasn't engaging. She would pour the wine and give you a description of it, and then seemed bored. We would try to start conversations but it was like pulling teeth a lot of the time. This winery just screams fun and personality. Everything from their signs to their Big Red (that goes down easy) just makes you want to feel happy and laugh. The service though just didn't match that energy. By no means would I say skip this winery. I just think if you are looking for a fun winery where you can chat up the winemaker, this may not be for you. The wine is solid, but there is more character and just as good/better wineries elsewhere. 2/100 read more

From their flagship red, Brayzin Hussy to their "drunk tractor" crossing signs, this place rules. You'll encounter some crazy Portuguese varietals here as well as some killer olive oils. We were there when limo of bachelorette partiers showed up un-announced with no reservations on 2/412 for a 'free drunk fest' making no purchases and were offended by this parties behavior. They were rude to the employees and especially to the owners of the winery who showed as much courtesy possible while apologizing to us for the situation. We have always had wonderful experiences at Bray and everyone we've referred to Bray has also expressed likewise. We'll continue to visit and take our friends to Bray. It's ridiculous that groups of irresponsible and immature idiots on a party fest impose themselves on such kind people and then leave bad Yelp reviews when the situation was due to there lack of mature behavior. Bray Vineyards was my group's first stop in Plymouth and I think my favorite winery of the day! The winery had a warm and homey vibe. The workers were all incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The outdoors had a beautiful porch with a fire pit (perfect for what was a cold January day) and a very friendly black cat wandering around. The tasting, while free (like every winery in Plymouth - nice!), had a long list of wines... I had to stop drinking every pour to avoid getting tipsy on the first stop of the day. What really stood out was the Brayzin Hussy, which was one of my favorite wines of the day and extremely reasonably priced at $14 a bottle. This winery definitely goes onto my favorites for sure! If I come back to Plymouth I'd l ike to come back to Bray Vineyards. read more

I've stopped in here twice right before they closed and instead of rushing through a tasting they let us relax, enjoy the wine, and the company! The employees are very friendly and no matter how many times and ways you ask they will not reveal what wine is actually in the mystery bottles you can purchase near the entrance! The most unique thing about this winery is the delicious jug wine! Lots of wineries do jug wine, but the others don't have a farmer poppin' a wheelie on his tractor on the label AND a discount on refills. So great! read more

We stopped by here on a Wednesday and this place was not busy at all. We came to wine taste in Amador County because we have never been there and for the free wine tasting. This was the first winery that charged $5 for wine tasting (waived if you buy a bottle). We all purchased a bottle of wine but it does not take a tasting fee to buy the bottle. If I wanted to pay for a tasting fee, I would rather go to Lodi, Placerville, or Napa for wine tasting. read more

We only came 1,000 miles to visit and popped by on Friday and said we would. be back on Monday. There were 2-3 men that never even acknowledged us as we tried to get in. My husband and I chose to visit this winery specifically because they have a charging station for our Nissan Leaf. :) We were greeted by the friendly staff when we first walked in and served immediately. Our wine tasting included allot more than what was on the tasting list and we went home with a Barbera Rostato. They have delicious wines and estate grown extra virgin olive oil. We ended up sitting out back on their Adirondack chairs until our car finished charging. Super relaxing and quiet. We will be back!! read more

Now THIS is my style winery. I was sold the second we saw the "Farm Responsibly" signs with the guy doing a wheelie on tractor with a bottle in his hand. The tasting room is pretty much a barn, and even with all the awards and medals hanging everywhere, they still don't take themselves seriously! The descriptions of the wines on the tasting menu are hilarious, the pourers are casual, usually older men who are willing to joke with you or tell you about the wines. Whether it's your fisrt time tasting or you're a veteran, you'll always feel relaxed and at home. They'll give you as much as you want, and make suggestions. They also have funny products for sale, as well as tastings of their homemade olive oil. The prices are always good, and they have a great monthly e-newsletter that in entertaining and educational! Last time we went there, they had introduced their "Brayzin Hussy Blonde," and I almost peed myself. I knew I'd buy a bottle just for a label, but turns out it's good wine, too! read more
