I got a Brazilian wax. I have a high pain tolerance and I've been getting waxed for over a decade but this was, by far, the most painful experience I have had. I actually said those exact words twice during but the waxer just kept going and talking like I didn't say anything. Didn't even acknowledge my comment. It's been an hour since she's finished and I still feel tender, which has never happened before. I just need whoever goes here to know that a wax does not need to be anywhere near as painful as her waxes are. It's as if she has never gotten a wax herself. Her technique is also off because I still have splotches of hair and it seems like some hair broke at my skin line instead of being taken from the root (basically I paid someone to give me ingrowns). I'm told that it's all in the wrist and she makes large sweeping arm motions which definitely makes the pain worse. Even just applying momentary pressure at the freshly waxed area would help with the pain but she doesn't do that either. Absolutely hated it. Will never go back. read more

I received a groupon for a brazilian, and although this isn't my normal waxing salon, it was closer to me, and thought it would be worth the visit. It was fairly easy to schedule, and there is a very affordable pre-pay option offered to you upon check out. That being said, this absolutely did not compare to the experience I am used to for this type of service. While the cerologist was very friendly, the experience was very rushed and mechanical. What I mean by that, is there was really no gentle approach...The quarters were ok, seemed a little run down. The positioning they ask you to do is awkward and uncomfortable. And again there is no finesse with the process. It wasn't the experience I was anticipating, and I likely won't be returning. read more

Not even one star is what my review. I was so excited to buy Groupon for a waxing procedure. I even bragged about it to friends. I tried to call and schedule an appointment but I did not get an answer. (Cell phone) I left a voicemail and asked her to give me a call back I was trying to see how soon she could make an appointment for me. I did not get a return call. I tried to schedule online but I did not get a confirmation. So 2 days later, I looked at my Groupon to see how long it would be valid for but it showed it was voided. I contacted the store and was informed I was a "no call no show." The owner was not going to honor the Groupon she insisted several times that a text message was sent. I kept telling her I did not get any notification or else I would've been there. If she had time to "void" a Groupon she could've called me to see if I was still coming since we never touched base. The appointment was at 2:15 and she voided the Groupon at 2:33. (I have documentation) I was not going to argue back with her. So I asked her one more time if she would honor the Groupon. She said flat out, "no! that I can contact Groupon for a refund." Which I will try to do. It's just ridiculous with everything that's going on in the world the last thing you want to be doing is fighting about money because the business doesn't wanna accommodate a client. It was a miscommunication.I was bringing her business. I am a business owner too. This is the time that we should support our local businesses in Albuquerque. Word of mouth is the best advertising than Groupon. All I would like now is to let other customers to be wary if you choose to be challenged with getting services done. Especially when they've already been paid for. This owner does not honor her obligations. Nor does she understand or care of the value the potential customer. Now I need to see if Groupon will return the funds. My resolution to this was to give her the opportunity to take back what she had done so angry. She declined to do the right thing. read more

I would agree with Monique V. I came in BBW to find that there were no holes in the wall/ceiling(?). The place was well decorated and clean. My waxing girl was very peppy and upbeat. She made me feel comfortable and was professional. My wax was quick yet thorough which is something I'm very particular about. My waxing girl used 2 waxes one for the outer area and a harder wax for the more sensitive spots. Which from my experience from being waxed at other salons is normal. I also liked how this boutique doesn't use heavy oils "to soothe" the skin like I've experienced at other salons just because I've had a bad reaction to them every time (but that is just a personal opinion). I was very hesitant to go here because of all these negative reviews but I had bought a groupon and couldn't let it go to waste, but when I walked in it wasn't a hell hole as someone else described it, it was quite pleasant. The receptionist was very polite, and welcoming. My waxing girl Jackie was excellent, she made me feel comfortable, and was very professional and friendly. I am rating three stars based on their pre-pay option -- in house voucher. I think it's awesome that I paid $19 for my original appointment through Grupon and then just had to pre-pay for my second at $20. I am all about savings and realize that there are things I can do on my behalf to prep for my wax as well as ensure its longevity. Overall waxer was peppy, and nice. Eyelash extensions and all wax services. The most convenient thing, in my opinion, is the on-line scheduling. You click on the service you want and set it up anytime that there are spots available. WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE holes in the ceiling, holes in the wall, HELL HOLE the first pull she made caused my leg to bruise, she blamed me for it. She blamed me for the pain she caused me. I had to throw in the towel half way through. She used 2 different waxes, neither of which seemed to do the trick. Which also.....IS MY FAULT?! I've gotten probably 20 waxes in my life, never had a problem once. This woman has nooooo idea what she's doing. Arguing with the customer about why she's making bruises?! She claimed there was nothing else she could do! Come on! So I went to my usual spot directly after the WAX FROM HELL, they were able to fix what she had done thank god. NEVER GO TO THE PLACE! Most people will only drop trou in front of a complete stranger in very specific circumstances, and those tend to come with...umm...expectations. In the case of a personal waxing service, a clean, comfortable environment and professional, capable service should be in there somewhere. This shop hits that mark, but just barely. It's not what it used to be----the space is rapidly showing its age, while the techs get younger and less experienced. Services are brisk (almost relentless) without any of the professional polish that might upgrade this kind of intimate experience. Equipment is in desperate need of a cleaning. Mercifully, no double dipping here. Be prepared for the sales pitch at the end, for prepaid vouchers and such. If you need your giblets groomed in a jif, it'll do, but expect the kind of service you'd get from the anonymous corner nail salon. read more

Cancelled my original appointment the day of due to AC problems. Couldn't reschedule until 3 days later, them waited 15 minutes past my appointment time. Then right before she took me back told me she would honor my Groupon even though I had come in once before (over two years ago because I moved out of state and didn't realize it was the same place when I purchased the groupon). The entire time she was very unpleasant and showed extreme lack of customer service. After she tried to charge me $30 for a prepaid wax on top of the Groupon price. Needless to say I was extremely dissatisfied and upset at the lack of respect for my time, will not be returning nor promoting her business. read more

I went to this Salon twice. The first time the owner did my waxing and it was fine. I made a 2nd appt a month later and specifically said I wanted the owner again. When I got to the salon, the owner said she was too busy to wax me so had an employee do it. This time the woman took forever to do the Brazilian wax (partial), it hurt then and for days afterwards. I was given a Living Social deal for Brazilian Waxing Boutique and went the same day I wrote the original review. No where in the terms and conditions did it mention a clause about "New Customers Only". I was told I would have to pay full price and couldn't use the Living Social deal b/c I didn't have a pre-paid voucher sold through Brazilian Waxing Boutique and I had previously used a Groupon (some time ago). Here is where it gets shady. They than told me I COULD use the Living Social voucher if I bought a pre-paid voucher from them. No thanks. Trying to coerce me into buying their vouchers was tacky and laughable. I told them I wasn't interested and that I would not plan on returning. I immediately called Living Social and was told, yes, that "New Customer" was not apart of the deal and they should have honored it. Living Social also thought it unethical for Brazilian Bikini Wax to try to "strike a deal" with me by allowing me to use the Living Social voucher only if I purchased their in-house pre-paid vouchers. Living Social gave me a cash refund, an apology, and a thank you for letting them know about this merchant and the incident. In my previous review I said Brazilian Beauty Boutique is okay with a Groupon or Living Social deal but can't stand behind that after this incident. I have bought several of their in-house vouchers before and was shocked that they would only honor another of their promotions if I bought more from them. Do not waste your time. The dealings are shady and the services aren't great. Go to Brazilian Waxing Boutique on San Mateo, spend $10 more and get a really great wax without the hassle of owners that don't honor their own promotions. read more

On my first visit I had a difficult time finding the location and called several times for some assistance and nobody answered. Once I found the location I walked in and was treated like my business was disposable. Brazilian Beauty Wax has lost me as a customer. The last time I went I got the worst wax of my life, it was incredibly painful, the wax was too hot and she ripped bits of skin off with the wax. Plus she didn't even get all the hair off. It's not worth getting a cheap wax if you end up as a hairy bloody mess afterwards. I was a customer here for over a year and have been getting Brazilian waxes for longer than that, so I know how it should be done right. The past 2 out of 3 waxes I got here were awful, they have obviously hired some incompetent employees so I will be taking my business elsewhere. Bottom line: go somewhere else that might cost a little bit more but I can promise it will be a better experience than here. read more

I had a slightly indifferent experience the first time I went to BBW but I felt it was worth trying again, especially since it is privately owned. What I didn't like the first time was the kinda "3rd-world country' feel as the decor seemed somewhat unfinished. However, I also understood that it was a new business trying to develop clientele. Six months later, I am glad I went back a second time as this latter experience was great. I had slight reservations when I was introduced to my waxer, "Arianna", as she appeared a tad on the young, and perhaps inexperienced, side. Shame on me for judging a book by its cover! Yes, they do use two waxes depending on the area and I am totally thankful for that. Also, she took her time, (but not too much), and the "pulls" were as gentle as they could be, considering the area and the situation. Plus, and this is a biggy for me, she didn't make me roll over and put my hind-end up in the air AND still did an excellent, clean job. On the pain scale where "1" is a pin prick and "10" is un-medicated childbirth (or papercut on the tongue if you haven't experienced the "miracle of childbirth") , I would give this waxing session a solid "4". The fact of the matter is that NO waxing is going to be 100% pain-free. The best you can do is to find a clean establishment with professionals that are experienced, compassionate, and calming, all important traits that were delivered by BBW. I would have given BBW a "5"-star rating but I don't like the bright lights of the rooms. I understand that the professionals need light to see what they are doing (Having had a crooked-"landing strip" at a nail shop (!), you will not argue this point!) but I wish there was some way the lights can be directed to "down there" and perhaps dimmed everywhere else in the room. And yes, I am so confident I will return that I bought a package for three more sessions. read more

This place was pretty terrible. It was my second time getting a brazilian so I had an idea of what to expect. Before going, my sister called and asked many questions so that we would know what to expect. She was assured that they are very thorough and often take just a little longer in their appointments to make sure the job is done right. They did not do a very good job at all for my sisters and me and of course they blamed it all on hair cycles. Not to mention, it has only been a week and I am already seeing regrowth because they used strip wax instead of hard wax which only cause hair breakage instead of extraction. It was very awkward during the actual waxing and there was no care taken to make the experience less painful. Also, after my sister went first and saw how terrible it was, they would not allow us to get a refund for the other two waxes that we had not yet used (they charged us first, including tip). They made no effort to satisfy her when she mentioned that large areas had been missed and claimed that there would be an additional charge for those areas to be done which I KNOW other places do it all when you say you would like the hair completely gone. I would not recommend this place to anyone, even in desparate situations. It's just not worth it at all. The only plus side was that each wax costed about $20 because we had coupons so we at least didn't pay full price for complete crap. read more

I had an expired groupon for this place and I wanted to use the value towards my wax. Once I got there, the person checking me in tried to upsell me on buying additional groupons that never expire. I declined and she seemed to get upset. Once I realized this was the person that would be waxing me, I politely explained that I hesitated to buy additional services because of the location, it was far for me. She then proceeded to wax me in about 8 minutes, never warning me when to exhale, etc. She seemed to have "taken it out on me". And even laughed when I seemed to be uncomfortable. I've been to the Coors and Montano location, and had a good experience. The technician, Heidi, was very courteous and friendly. She made me feel very comfortable and was quick and appropriate. Since I liked the service, I purchased a second session for myself and one for a friend at that time. However when I got home, I noticed that she did not do a very thorough job at all. Still, since I had already purchased the second session, I decided to give it one more try. When I went back for my second session, my experience was completely different. I went to the Indian School and Louisiana location this time. I had called ahead to see if they took walk in's and was told that they do and that that particular location didn't have any appointments for the next hour, so they should be able to fit me right in. When I got there, a little before 1pm, no one was at the salon. The woman at the salon next door told me that the technician had just stepped out and she would be right back. So I waited... And waited... And waited. Finally the woman at the salon next door called the technician and told her I had been waiting there. She told me that the technician said she would be right there. So I continued to wait... At almost 2pm, the technician showed up wearing 4 inch high heels, a very low cut, strapless tube top, very short shorts, and had makeup on that looked like she was going out to the club that night. For me personally, I felt uncomfortable knowing that this was the person I was about to expose myself to. I felt like her appearance and dress was very unprofessional. When she finally showed up, she didn't acknowledge me at all. She didn't invite me to step inside. I stood by the door and finally had to ask if she was ready for me to come in. I had to approach her and get her attention. She looked very annoyed, so I apologized for making her come back early from lunch. I told her that I had been waiting there for almost an hour. She was very short in her responses, avoided eye contact and was unapologetic for the wait time. When I told her that I had already purchased prepaid voucher for that session, she could not find it in the computer. I had her look under a different name, and she finally found it, but said that it didn't show the voucher I had bought for my friend. Again, unapologetically, she refused to look further into the situation. The rest of the session went somewhat like that. Uncomfortable and short. When I got home I looked into my bank account and found that I have, in fact, been charged for 3 sessions in total. I will be taking my bank statement in to the store and getting my money back for the third session, as I will not be going back to Brazilian Beauty Wax... Since my business seems disposable to them, I will treat it as such. read more

It was extremely painful compared to another one I received at Brazilian Waxing Boutique which barely hurt at all, I had a lot of bruising, and a lot of hair was still left after going over the same areas a few times. Bought the groupon and booked my appointment online for the next day! I went to the location in sola salon studios off of Louisiana and Indian school, right behind pier one. I had been going to a European wax center in nashville but hadn't found a place yet in abq. To my surprise all the regular prices were a couple bucks cheaper than European wax center, which is the cheapest best place I found in nashville to keep up with a wax schedule. The experience here was totally pleasant, the studio is clean and pleasant and my girl Arianna had a great bedside manner and was really comfortable and effective with the wax, which is combo soft then hard, whereas ews uses only hard wax and that's all I was used to. Pain level is probably the same or slightly more but I noticed she could do bigger areas at once than ews with the hard wax so it actually was over faster. I also got underarms lip and brow- no issues or redness later in the day and no breakouts day 2! Also she nailed the brows! So whatever she's doing is great! I prepaid for the next wax for $30 instead of $45 which is an option every time not just your first visit- so that's great too! I recommend. read more

I gave this location multiple chances. My first experience was fine. I had a Groupon, got a Brazilian Wax, and received a voucher to pay ahead of time and lock in my pay rate for the wax next time ($25). I scheduled an appointment for my second visit, and when I showed up for my scheduled appointment, the doors were locked. Nobody was there, lights off, no sign on the door. Myself and other clients waited over 30-45 minutes for someone to come back from lunch or something. Turns out, someone had up and quit that day. So I received a voucher for the same rate I had already paid, $25, with it saying "none" on the expiration date. Recently, I tried to book an appointment by phone, which they do not use, so I'm not sure why they even have a phone number. It just directs you to a website. When I went to the website, the scheduling system was down, so I sent a message asking for assistance. I never heard back. Finally, I tried again a few days ago and it worked. I was finally able to schedule. I went to my scheduled appointment today. The atmosphere in the room did not feel very warm or welcoming. Lots of girls waiting around, standing or sitting. Cramped, closed quarters. When it was my turn, 10 minutes into my appointment time, lo and behold, the lady told me my coupon was expired. When I told her it was a voucher to lock in the rate since I paid ahead, and had no expiration date (again, it specifically says "none" on expiration date), she proceeded to tell me that it was expired and that their rates have gone up since then, and some other explanation. I just cancelled at that point. I had it with this place. I will never be going back. Not user friendly or customer service oriented at all. "Sorry" to you too, ma'am. read more

Brazilian Beauty Wax is a disreputable business. I bought a Brazilian waxing package (3 waxings) when the business was located at Uptown. They did not inform me at any moment that the package had an expiration date. The first issue was that they moved locations and refused to reimburse me even though I explained that their new location was very inconvenient for me (I had to drive 45 minutes to get there). I went for my first two waxings and each time was worried about the hygiene of the place. The whole place looked dirty, and was messy. The service was also awful. The beautician was borderline rude and sloppy. Then I went for my last waxing appointment and was informed that the package had expired 2 days previous. They would not honor my last session, nor discount a new single session. Thus, I lost 25.00 dollars (they did offer me a whole new package of sessions). They never sent me an email informing me that the package was about to expire 2 days before my reservation. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
