This is probably the most honest review you'll ever get out of me. I've never, um, done this before. And by this I mean waxed below the equator. Get what I'm saying? I hope you do because I'm a lady and this is rough for me to talk about. I've been seeing ads on Facebook for Waxing the City for some time now and I've always been tempted to try waxing instead of shaving. They have an amazing 50% off offer for your first time service. So I figured what the heck? Let's go for the Brazilian! Once I got there, I pretty much went into panic mode. I mean, what did I just get myself into? I started to freak out about if it was going to hurt and if I could handle it. When I walked in, I was surprised at how beautiful the lobby was. It was seriously stunning and I felt right at home. Kyleigh, my cerologist, was right up front and met me right away with a form to get to know my skin better. Once I filled it back, she took me back and made me feel really comfortable. The service was much easier than I thought it would be and we laughed the entire time. It wasn't painless but was much better than I thought it would be. I am not one to get Brazilians all the time because I've never really had a good experience not to mention it's quite painful. My cerologists name was Nicole. She was so kind and made me feel very comfortable. She worked fast but didn't leave any unwanted hair. I asked for a cute landing strip because I don't really like to be bald. I was ecstatic to notice this sign as I drove to work one morning and wondered if my eyes deceived me. Waxing the City, in Albuquerque. Did I get transported back to Denver?!? After work, I stopped in for a walk in appointment. They were able to get me in right away and my Cerologist was wonderful. Their wax blend is the least painful I've ever had put on my skin and I've been waxing for over 10 years. What I love about this chain is that you know what quality service you can grown to expect. You will be cleanly waxed, ensured that stay hairs are gone, they check for ingrown hairs, and they apply tend skin to your skin afterwards. They've always been friendly and they will tell you about the products you can purchase, but it isn't pushy. It's not all branded with their logo, but other companies they have grown to love. well, where do I being....I have been coming here for a couple of years. I have never experienced poor customer service. let alone I have had a supervisor preform my service. Bad customer service, without giving any notice for me to moved down towards the end of the bed to accommodate her. she pulls my legs like she was going to pull me off bed. Wax left all over my legs, I had to walk to the front and find her to take off the wax that was left. I have facts, pictures I took. Yikes , Who has that type of behavior, I even told her, i thought you were going to pull me off the bed without letting me know. The session was so uncomfortable. I have had good customer service until that. towards the end of my service, knowing her teachings and knowledge of the where pressure points are, she applied Excruciating pain to my leg and I questioned on why this is so painful. I had to stop her, I asked her what are you doing and states there is wax left. Let me mind you, use wax removal to take off the remaining wax. After all that they couldn't find why my payment wasn't processed Ect. I paid for my service and left gracefully. Next day, i received a email responding to my experience.....I was honest about the poor customer, experienced I let them know...as well stated I will not be returning with this type of customer service , what I have gone through. Bottom line, I have NEVER BEEN RUDE OR DISRESPECTFUL TO ANYONE Or complained about MY SERVICES.... People forget we as paying customer's give them their paycheck. You can't teach kindness, compassion and customer service. Some people are just to comfortable in their jobs, discrimination all in all. I called to speak to the owner and was told I was going to a call back and didn't receive a call but a text message. I will copy and paste how the owner responds. So, this is an excuse and how poor customer service is dealt with. Such a disappointment. I couldn't even share my pictures with the owner. Getting yo' face or hot bod waxed isn't always a walk in the park. I've had all sorts of experiences, but I feel like the ones that are the least memorable are the most appropriate for this kind of service. There should be no leftover wax, burns, chapped skin, or awkward moments burned into your memory. That's why I'm giving Waxing the City 5/5. I've received all sorts of services from different locations in multiple states, and it's always a classy, enjoyable experience. At their Rio Grande location, I particularly love the physical location (shout out to the north valley!), the different types of wax used, and the comfortable thrown you get to relax in while they take care of you. I've thought about my experience at Waxing the City on Saturday, November 12th (Rio Grande location). I love my waxing clinician, Marissa. What I didn't love was the front desk staff. When you go here for the first time, they take your billing information and I believe your drivers license. So why is my name butchered in their system? And it wasn't a simple extra letter or omitted letters. My last name is complex but to input my last name as "fettuccine"?? That was a total lack of respect, professionalism, and incredibly offensive. All they could offer was a cold apology. I don't recommend this establishment based on their lack of professional behavior with the front desk staff. I gave this place 2 stars simply because my clinician was great but the business is horrible. Do not go here if you want to be treated with respect. read more

I will never be back to another salon for my waxing again now that I've been going to Waxing the City. Alicia is AMAZING and is the first person who has never missed spots or bruised my skin during a wax. There's never an uncomfortable moment because she's so good at making you laugh and keeping up the conversation while she works. They're super convenient as a whole, you can book online, usually some same day availability, and everyone is SO nice every time from start to finish. The entire facility is also extremely clean and nice to look at and you never feel pressured to buy the products they carry, but the products are convenient and I'm glad they carry them. In short, I can't recommend everyone here enough. Even though I usually try to book with Alicia, I would trust any of their technicians, and I also sincerely appreciate that it appears management is doing a great job, because the salon looks great and the staff seems really happy to be here! read more

I made the appointment spontaneously. The entrance was fancy. I loved it. The staff super nice and helpful. I got my eyebrows waxed , and to me it's a big deal. Lauren focused on how you want the shape. she even did this thing to help with redness. Three words: classy, chic, and silky smooth. Wait, that was more than three words. Nevermind, I can't write well since my hands are constantly feeling my perfectly hairless face. Everything about Waxing the City impressed me: the industrial yet homey feel, the welcoming attitude of the estheticians, and the love of the business which the owner clearly has. I walked in, filled out a short consent and customer information form, and was led back to the waxing areas. My esthetician, Alicia, asked me a few questions about my facial care routine, and then we began. First of all, I noticed that the wax is a deep blue-green, almost like the ocean. This is because Waxing the City uses a special blend of essential oils in their wax, to soothe the skin and allow for a more pleasant experience. I have to say, I was relaxed as I chatted amiably with Alicia while saying adios to my angel hair moustache. After the wax, I also received a "high frequency" lasering on the areas, to help prevent breakouts afterwards. The price point is really great as well, but this is coming from a waxing newbie. To me, $12 for a lip wax was a good deal! And the other prices on the menu were awesome as well. I'll definitely be back for another wax when the time comes. This place is located in a super convenient spot right by old town off of rio grande and I-40. It's a modern, clean space. Upon walking in, everyone was super friendly and helpful. For your first visit they require an intake/consent form. The actual wax rooms are very clean and sterile. You also get 50% off your first service, which is awesome. I've previously been to Wax in the city in Denver. It was an great experience. The day i saw the billboard, i was thrilled not to mention its located in old town. Met the owner and 3 other staff member. Alicia was so friendly and professional. The facility is impeccable and I look forward to more service offerings. To give you the low down, i have to say this was one of the least painful waxing experiences. Instead of the usual wax and muslin strips, they use a stripless wax. Less mess and very convenient. Okay, I've fully committed to never getting waxed anywhere else ever again. The biggest drawback of getting waxed are usually: that I can't get an appointment without booking 3+ weeks in advance, they don't sweep their floors so there are stray hairs lying on the floor, and that I get shamed for allowing too much time between waxes. After months of searching for a less expensive (about $10 difference) place, I learned that Waxing the City is unmatched. I dreaded getting a wax for months because I didn't want to hear about the difficulty for the esthetician, of letting it grow long or shaving in between. And the single place that popped into my head was Waxing the City, as I knew it would be clean and I could feel comfortable walking in with my hair at any length. This place sweeps in between clients, the wax was done professionally, and being there is just aesthetically pleasing during such a pampering time. It's also placed in the cutest commercial center in ABQ, right off of Rio Grande. As far as waxing goes, the wax was comfortable, professional, and I had no issues! I waited a month after contacting Waxing the City privately and received no response, so here goes. I've been to Waxing the City twice and my husband has gone twice. They have no idea how to wax a man's back and chest - he broke out in a horrible rash both times and was too embarrassed to take off his shirt at the beach. They are also prohibitively expensive, so he spent over $200 on the humiliation. My first Brazilian waxer, Aimee (sp?), was terrific. It was a first-time wax, so the 50% discount made the service affordable (re: not 70+ dollars). The second time I got a different person whose name I forgot. She was terrible. Very nice, but obviously didn't know what a Brazilian was. She barely waxed any hair except the Bikini line, didn't understand what a racing stripe was, didn't remove ANY hair below that area and left wax EVERYWHERE. Ofcourse I was sore and didn't check that region before I left, because who doesn't know how to do a Brazilian? Her. I emailed Waxing the City the same day to let them know how awful the job was and how disappointed I was to have to shave after all that. They never got back to me, so I am never going back and recommend you don't risk it either. read more

The studio has a very modern and clean feel to it. The team was very welcoming and explained the process. Monica (my aesthetician) worked very diligently to remove all of my chest/shoulder/back hair. She continued to explain the process and calmed my apprehension throughout. Several members of the team greeted me afterwards and discussed the next steps of skin care. Ummm 168/10 experience. This was my first waxing ever, and it just could not have been better. Stephanie made me SO comfortable and excited. She explained everything and did not make me feel rushed. So no one likes to wax, period. That being said, this place is the best I've ever been to and I've been to about 10. Candis was my cerologist, and she was just about the nicest person ever. She immediately made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in, and when she actually started waxing I thought, "Are you kidding?!" It was virtually pain-free! Maybe if it's your first time it's a little different, but trust me, whatever methods they use are incredible. She talked to me throughout the appointment also, so I didn't feel awkward at all (It's kinda awkward being naked in front of a stranger). Expect about 30-40min for a brazillian, but know that waxing here will be the closest thing to painless as it could ever get. Price points are a bit higher than the competition, but I appreciate the laid-back approach---no high pressure sales tactics to buy service packages. While I have yet to find the "perfect" waxing experience, this spot comes darn close. There's always going to be a missed patch or 2 with leg services (I think they hide until I'm in sunlight), and while I would prefer a more thorough cleanup (annoying to find little sticky spots of wax as I go through my day), I appreciate the clean, bright, professional experience here. Easy access off of I-40 & Rio Grande should entice a mix of clientele. As of this review, it's still easy to book same-day services online or by phone, and I appreciate that kind of convenience. I have been a client of WTC for quite a while now and am very overdue for writing this review. It is a 5 star destination for sure. From the time you walk in the door and are warmly greeted, to the well trained staff to the fun products they offer. The rooms and equipment are squeaky clean, the training of the staff is excellent, the vibe is really fun and upbeat. While all of those things are great, the most important thing is result- and they are consistently on point.
