Bread Alone is worth the hour drive from Albany. The bagel works is the perfect bagel, with lox, cream cheese, onion and tomato. I've never had anything but pleasant service, and I always leave satisfied. read more

Went here for breakfast. Great little spot. We had the cauliflower and arugula breakfast sandwich and the salmon works on rye plate. Both were terrific. Cute, casual atmosphere. They had a great selection of breads and pastries too, plus some carry-away pre-made salads, etc. Would absolutely go back here. read more

Their bread is delicious and they have tons of varieties. Coffee is great too. Personally I don't care for their breakfast items but, a definite go to if your in the area. Seating is somewhat limited however there IS seating and with good size tables if your with a couple of people! Meh. We ordered a couple of breakfast sandwiches, some home fries, a couple of chocolate muffins and coffees. The service was dry, but polite. The place was a mad house... I imagine they bring in quite a profit. The sandwiches were light, fluffy and perfect except for the fact that they were strangely tasteless. Even the bacon... Confusing. The hash browns were OK. They are cooked with peppers and onions, which I don't love. I prefer onions and garlic. Peppers always seem to overpower potatoes. The coffee did the job. Very very hot, and medium strength, I'd guess. Pretty good. Now I ate the chocolate muffin some time after breakfast. It was delicious. Perfectly moist. Not to sweet ... just bursting with chocolate flavor. If I go back, I'll stick with the muffins and the coffee. That's my winning combo. read more

I am not giving Bread Alone 5 stars based on price alone - otherwise I love this place! We tried it our first morning in Woodstock because our B&B owner didn't serve breakfast until 8:30 and we are total morning people. Even though the place was crowded the service was incredible (especially the blonde haired woman who I think must own or manage the place). The latte's were delicious and our salmon bagels were fantastic and very very fresh tasting. The only problem was that the price was very high...but we chocked it up to NY during high tourist season. We loved Bread Alone so much we went back the next morning where we had the same bagels but plain coffee...which was sadly a little weak but still okay. Third morning? Yep, Bread Alone again but at one of their other locations - in Boiceville. If you can, avoid that spot. It was not as nice/clean/appealing as the woodstock location, although our foood was even better at the not-as-nice location. Overall, if you can stand the slightly-higher-than-you-are-used-to prices, Bread Alone is fantastic place to go!!! read more

This place deserves so much more credit. In fact, we ate breakfast here two days in a row! Their breakfast sandwiches and coffee were great fuel for our morning hike, the chocolate muffin was moist and not too sweet, and we even treated ourselves to the oatmeal whoopie pie - highly recommend! Come for the bread stay for the sandwiches. We love the bread and buy whenever we get the chance. Unfortunately they do not come to our local farmers' market. We had the Reuben and Ban Minh sandwiches today. Go with the ban minh if you need a little spice in your life. Otherwise the reuben is perfect. Of coure the bread is fresh. Funky, very busy, little place. Interesting food choices...a mix of the standards (pancakes, eggs, etc.) and more offbeat choices (oatmeal/ricotta pancakes, goat cheese omlette, etc.). Also had a great selection of fresh baked breads, pastries, and bagels. Service was quick and very friendly. Food was great, and the coffee was very good. Been coming here for years and never looked at the yelp reviews. Kind of surprised by some of the negative ones... The bakery items are pretty high quality, as are most breakfast items. In my many years going here I havent really had any of the lunch items, so I can't say how they are... But you'd be hard pressed to find better breakfast nearby. read more

Dirty dirty place and the waitress actually swept dirt towards us as we ate. We could smell dust for hours after our visit. We laughed it off because we know this particular Bread Alone has a reputation for being dirty. The Bread Alone in Rhinebeck is good however, the Woodstock Bread Alone is dirty and chaotic, even when they are not busy. Good luck. read more

Charming cafe in the heart of Woodstock that can get a little busier on the weekends when visitors explore the area. The bread is always fresh - cranberry+pecan and organic whole wheat sourdough are my favorite, the chocolate croissants never fail, and they keep introducing more and more delicious sweet treats - try the canele, seriously. Julie always has a welcoming smile as do most of the staff (though they could train some of the younger cashiers a bit more) and the regular customers seem to linger for another cappuccino as they read their papers or talk to friends. Haven't had too much of the cafe food (i.e., soups, sandwiches, salads etc. - though it all looks good) but my boyfriend is a huge fan of the egg kaiser sandwich and I can't get enough of their granola+yogurt. Definitely recommend the cafe - followed by some perusing in the flea market in the lot right behind it! read more

Not my favorite for a meal. Bread Alone began as a bakery, and is an awesome one. They have great variety of breads, bagels, and certain pastries, with lots of organic and/or hearty grains, as well as basic baguettes and things like that. Coffee is great. However, the food is extremely over-priced. I paid over $6 for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwhich (there was no where else to go and I REALLY wanted one). The rest of the menu is good, but not worth the money. The coffee is slightly overpriced but I'd say its worth it. The service is counter-service, and they have plenty of people there to help the crowd, which I greatly appreciate, and everyone is very friendly and helpful. But its still a small, non-waitstaff "cafe" and I don't go in often because its usually so crowded and impossible to move around. All in all, good for some quick coffee and take out bagel. Bread alone should be just that. They need to learn how to make good food. The soup is not palatable and served cold most of the time. Their sandwiches are meager, expensive and not good at all. I don't know what the hype is about these restaurants (if you could even call them that). The people who take orders can't get them right and leave out bread...no apologies either...or dessert. I'm a Bread Alone customer, but usually receive my bread via Fresh Direct. Today while driving through Woodstock, I stumbled upon the Bread Alone shop! Of course, I had to go in. I couldn't resist the cranberry pecan bread, which I've never had, and also picked up the 9-grain bread. If it wasn't for the fact that I purchased a pie elsewhere beforehand, I would have certainly tried one of their delicious looking desserts. The staff are very friendly. Now that I know the shop is here, I'll have to make this a pit-stop the next time I drive through Woodstock. A lovely little shop with delicious foods. read more

The staff are so nice they know you by name. When your a regular they even know what you order and they are busy busy busy. The bakers muffin is to die for only made on weekends and they are real baristas they know how to make a proper latte and cappuccino and expresso. I come sit with my laptop do my work and enjoy everything. I've eaten quite a bit of the menu nothing is bad all is delicious. Small café/bakery/sandwich eatery on the main strip of Woodstock, NY. My wife and I were hungry after a hike up to Kaaterskills Falls so decided to hit up this popular local spot. It was crowded but somehow we were able to order our food and get a seat easily. Service was fast. We each had a cup of vegetable pureed soup. Flavor was nice and served with a piece of homemade bread with butter. My wife loved the pulled pork/kimchi bulgogi sandwich served on ciabatta bread. Nice mix of eastern and western flavors. The pastrami reuben was just as good. Nice cuts of pastrami with melted gruyere and homemade coleslaw on their own sourdough hit the spot. Picked up a chocolate chip/walnut cookie and apple tart to go which were excellent! I would definitely recommend stopping here if you're in town... read more
