    Apple turnover w mold
    Vanessa B.

Apple turnover... tasted pretty good but was wet on the outside. Then I noticed MOLD on the inside yikes! I bought 2 to go about 11 AM today. It is now 6:30 PM. I'm not sure how fast mold grows but I'm a little grossed out and I hope the one my son ate was ok (he only ate half). I tried to figure out how to private message the restaurant to no avail.

Cool vibe. Bring cash. Bad coffee, but that may be the almond milk. Oh and it is expensive. Like, $6 for a bad iced latte in upstate, ny.

The waitresses are great and attentive. They have complimentary buttered bread which was a great starter. We ordered from their specials menu starting with the famous meatball and cacio e Pepe with mushrooms and a Gorgonzola pasta. It was probably some of the best Italian food I've ever had. The meatball was amazing, words cannot describe it and the pastas were perfect with handmade noodles and the mushrooms just melted in your mouth. The portions were generous and they had great wine pairings available. Highly highly recommend. We texted to make a reservation which was very easy.

The restaurant layout is a little eccentric, but cute in a erratic way. There was the restaurant, an alcove, and a back patio. We sat in the alcove. We ordered the fresh made pasta with tomato and basil. That was very soft and the five year old ate up the half portion. (By the way they do have half portions.) We ordered the lamb ragu, which was very hearty and filling. I also ordered the pasta with seafood, which had heaping amounts of seafood. I think all were pretty fairly priced, considering the quality. The waitress we had was amazing. She helped us get our kid settled and knew exactly what she needed. She made some great suggestions and was overall the best. Great place!

The restaurant is housed in a beautifully renovated industrial-style merchant building right on the Kingston waterfront, and if you can grab outdoor seating, it's a great place to relax while watching the boats come and go. It's also kid-friendly, which made brunch with the family easy and enjoyable. Instead of ordering entrees, we decided to work our way through the appetizer menu. The standouts were the lobster and trout dip (our favorite of the meal), the root beer based wings, and the fresh oysters. Everything else was fine--good quality, but nothing that completely blew us away. One thing that really caught our attention was the Sunday all-you-can-eat-and-drink brunch. It had a lively crowd, an outdoor DJ, and looked like people were having a fantastic time. However, we were never offered and found it too late to inquire after ordering from the menu already. Overall, The Cornell is worth checking out for the waterfront location, relaxed atmosphere, and fun brunch scene. While the food didn't quite match the setting, it was still a very enjoyable family outing, and the few standout dishes make it worth a return visit.

But the truly beyond-horrible service made this an absolutely dreadful experience. The first thing the waitress did was take our drink orders. The person before me orders a Coke, and she says they have Pepsi products. So he orders a Pepsi. I order a Mountain Dew (a Pepsi product), and she says she doesn't know if they have it. How do you not know if they have it? But, to keep things moving and easier, I just get a Pepsi. The rest of the table orders their drinks and waits. And waits, and waits. 45 minutes later people had eaten their food, and everyone at the table is still waiting for their drinks. Two different waitresses said 3 different times the waitress says, "it's coming". I finally got fed up and left before our time was completely done because I was on the verge of saying something that probably would've gotten me arrested. Talking to people outside after, apparently, the drinks did finally come after getting a 3rd waitress and an additional 15 minutes. And they were watered down.

So from the get-go you sort of know that you're in for an experience. There are many breakfast options, including eggs, quesadillas and meat pies. The lunch specials included a chicken curry and rice dish. I picked a shrimp and bean wrap which was very good, but a bit pricey at $15. The displays are an eclectic mix of local honey, hemp products, pottery, seeds, vintage and second hand items. Instead of tipping the staff, customers are asked to place cash in a donation jar to help local charities. Likewise, donations are requested in exchange for vegetables sourced from local farms. The store also has a bright orange bicycle rickshaw out front that can deliver you to your parked car or nearby home for free. Since I was parked right outside, I declined an offer of a free ride. It is a unique store which the staff described as a collaboration of a number of businesses. I've noticed it for years but this was the first time I've set foot through the door. Whatever they're doing is working and visitors feel welcome.
