Pretty decent lunch spot. Went here after hitting the planetarium on the way home. Decent amount of people for a rainy Saturday, and they definitely have a cool setup with lots of seafood references without it being overbearing. Service was very friendly. Big menu even if you have non-seafood eaters. They definitely have the cool factor down pat, and are very welcoming. Beer list was decent, with some good options include from Finback, and also a great looking drink menu (was too early in the day). The food? Just alright. Got a Connecticut lobster roll on the waiter's recommendation. It had plenty of lobster even though it was a small piece of bread (they promise 1/4 lb). They used primarily claw which can be a good thing, although in my case it's not my favorite part; for a lobster roll I love when it's a mix of all of the lobster, with my favorite part being the knuckles. The meat was good quality, however there is very little butter and only some chopped scallions. Read: bland. Plus it came with a small bag of Lay's plain chips. For $30, I expect better than that. My son's fries were alright (also bland), however my wife's half chicken with corn looked great. Would come again however not rushing back. Pretty expensive for something that didn't come close to 'wow'. They seem to have good ingredients, so it's just a matter of elevating them a bit better. The chairs are kind of uncomfortable. That's my only complaint. Otherwise This place is awesome I had no idea it existed and I've been in Westchester for many years. The service was friendly. We ordered a hot lobster roll, cornbread, and the branzino. Lobster roll was stuffed full and was delicious and soft. It came with a bag of lays chips. The Branzino which is an entire fish, has bones fyi was slightly over cooked like charred on the outside and could use a bit more seasoning but was still nice and fresh. If you're craving seafood, you need to dine here. Located on Main St in Hastings, this spot has plenty of seating (indoor and outdoor) where you can enjoy an array of great food and cocktails. Since I'm very basic, I normally only order lobster rolls when I dine here but my friend ordered the Salmon which looked divine so might have to switch it up next time! I have to admit that I had limited expectations when we booked this restaurant recently. The design is a bit strange with dining rooms left and right and a bar in the center of the room. There is a large municipal parking lot next door which is a big benefit. The service can best be described as "casual" but caring. I guess the surprise for me was the wide menu selections, fair pricing and food quality. I had fried clams to start and a very good burger afterwards. The place was full of families and kids. Dessert was also very good. I think this is the right combination for a location such as Hastings but kudos to the management team for matching the right restaurant to the right location. read more

I eat here several times a year when I go to visit my sister in NY. My sister introduced me to their fish sandwich initially, and it was what I kept going back for. I have had some other seafood dishes such as the fish and chips and Perfect Storm basket. The people are always friendly. Their food is always fresh, and it is a great place to patronize. Outside seating contains well Maintained picnic tables. The inside is modern with two inside bars. The servers checked in on us frequently and brought our dogs fresh water. Food- rigatoni bolognese was not a traditional red sauce but full of flavor. The rice bowl with shrimp was fresh. I tried a Vegan hard boiled that was in the rice bowl for the first time and I was blown away how real it tasted. The Shoshito peppers were great, and not one spicy one in the whole bowl. We went there for the first time for lunch on Sunday. Place has a very friendly vibe. Two bar areas. The Hot Lobster Roll was excellent! They give you a generous amount of lobster. The special burger was very good as was the cole slaw (which is alacarte). The special dessert was Basque Cheesecake with cherries. It was excellent! Can't wait to go back. Just one constructive criticism. Instead of a bag of chips with the Lobster roll, a side of cole slaw would be better. You don't have to give the same size as the side amount that is purchased separately, but maybe a smaller amount. I just think it goes better with the Lobster Roll. Same with the burger. Pleasantly decorated, staffed by friendly bartenders and generally attentive servers, and located in the heart of downtown on Main Street, Bread & Brine is probably Hastings' best-known and arguably best restaurant. It's a nice place to bring a young family, but it also has a pleasant bar with some good beers. My father in law is 65 and said their brussels sprouts were the best he's ever tasted. (He usually hates the dish!) We can't get enough of the Szechuan cucumber salad. Our kid likes the mac & cheese, which is good quality (not Kraft/instant/etc.), and several of the items off the grown-up menu. Other sides of note are corn, cole slaw, cornbread, and fries. I highly recommend the fish and chips, Korean fried chicken sandwich, salmon, branzino, steak frites, and the half chicken. Most drinks and desserts I've had here were also great. The tuna melt is just okay. And there are better places to get a burger. They can also be a bit too scattered when busy and have made small mistakes (but always corrected them in a timely and friendly way). This is a strong option for a good quality casual meal. If it were possible to rate it 9/10, I would. All things considered, it's worth rounding up. If you haven't been, check it out. read more

Been trying new restaurants along the Hudson and wanted to try this one. Parking in the area can be hard on weekends. They have outside seating but choose to sit inside. Came late for lunch ordered clam chowder it was not your typical chowder. Was not creamy at all I'm told that's not how you make it but what other way is there. The oysters were ok my best friend ordered the burger but unfortunately the order that came out was wrong. So she had to wait again for a new order to come out. Came to Bread & Brine on a Friday night without any reservations. There is a parking lot right behind the restaurant that is free after 6p but there is also plenty of street parking around the area. The restaurant was plenty big but actually quite filled around peak dinner time. We waited maybe a minute and were seated pretty quickly. Inside the restaurant there was music, TV, and country-vibe decorations. Our server came quickly and were pretty efficient the whole meal, no complaints there. We loved the food! They indeed had some fresh seafoods. We started with the corn cob, tasted amazing with the cheese/sauce combo, then had the shishito peppers, which was another flavorful appetizer. We also got the grilled fish tacos, good flavors and the fish was quite fresh. Our entrees were the beef burger and grilled whole branzino. I was pretty shocked at the price of the branzino, at $27, was well worth it! The flavoring was amazing, size was decent. We then got a few simple desserts and the house special dessert, which was pound cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Honestly it was one of the best desserts I've had, it was light, soft, and mildly sweet, which is the perfect combination for me. I would totally come back here just for the poundcake. Very nice place to grab a bite! Maria was our server and she was so kind and helpful for the whole meal. She even let my son try an ice cream that was an off menu flavor. The restaurant is very thoughtfully done--comfortable seating, open table access, large bathrooms, a separate dining area from the main bar. Books for kids to read while they wait. It's lovely. We got some delicious shrimp basket and the lobster mac and cheese. Both were delicious. The kids fish basket was also great. I think the real highlight was the brownie sundae. We've been here several times and really love it. So nice to have a reasonable seafood restaurant that's more homey and fun than stuffy and crazy pricey. Everything we've had has always been good, vibe is excellent, seafood is fresh and really interesting and fun menu. Most of the staff is welcoming. Only suggestion is to make the service a little more professional, friendly and attentive. At times it feels a little uncaring and sort of a whatever attitude. Just up the service game a little. Parking is difficult but be patient because it's definitely worth it. Both types of lobster rolls were very good. I chose traditional Maine old style and my wife went with. Connecticut hot. They weren't enormous but it also didn't feel like they skimped out. The starters and sides were exceptional. The Tiger style calamari is a great mix of flavors and textures with its bed of shredded cabbage and sauce. It was even better than expected. The cucumber salad is a must order. First time dining here, I have mixed feelings about the experience. Here's a breakdown. Service: Friendly and attentive waiter, the host checked in on us as well which was great! We were able to walk-in and sit outdoors without issue. Our waiter did forget to bring us utensils but otherwise all was well. Food: I shared the steamed mussels for two, they were seasoned well (3/5 ). My main course included the hot lobster roll, with a side of mac and cheese and corn bread. The lobster roll was decent but tasted plain due to the lack of butter (3/5). Mac and cheese was tasty, along with the cornbread! Boyfriend had the clam chowder, which was definitely more soupy than I've ever seen. There were huge potato chunks and few small pieces of clam (0/5). There were a few families with kids, couples, and guys having a guys night -- easy place with options for a few different palates. The grilled fish tacos (2) were fabulous and I would have been thrilled for more of these -- succulent and tasty.
