Lobster + Bucatini, Kale Caesar, sneaky link cocktail

Something about this restaurant was off. The food was good, but overpriced. I believe it was the general atmosphere & service that made restaurant feel off. Additionally, the server was not attentive. My boyfriend requested shrimp instead of lobster in his pasta and it was still served with lobster. The server barely checked on us. She also didn't present us with the Dine Downtown menu-I presume it was because she wanted a larger bill for the tip. Overall, I thought she came off as fake and insincere. Good points: bartender (black woman) made the best drink! I would come back for drinks or happy hour, but not a sit down dinner. However, I believe my boyfriend would not come back-he was unhappy with the entire experience. Also, the host was nice-he tried to rectify the error with the food.

Dropped into Town House Kitchen and drinks as a plus- one for a "get to know each other" event. Located on Main street in New Rachelle, this hidden gem was only 15 minutes away. Street parking was a bit tight but no worries, municipal parking only two blocks away. Upon entering the venue, we were ushered upstairs to a spacious private area which was bathed in amber lighting and set up specifically for the event. We ordered rose, prosecco and began sampling bar-bites which included wings, hummus w/ crisp veggies and an assortment of cheeses. After mingling for a bit, the food started to come out of the kitchen. Beef sliders, grilled chicken, shrimp skewers, cauliflower quinoa bites were all delicious but not too filling. Next up was a fun bingo game and a special photo booth. We were blessed with assorted pastries and cookies as the evening came to an end. We will be back for happy hour Wed thur Sun 5pm-7pm.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant and I was pleased. For drinks, I ordered the drink Hope It Goes Well and it was the perfect balance of sweet to a bit tart. The tajin and salt rim complimented the drink. For the appetizer, I ordered the tuna crispy rice. It was delicious! For dinner, we ordered the ribs that came with the cornbread and Mac cheese and the fish and chips. The cornbread was sweet and moist and the rib was tender. The fish and chips was crispy and flaky. I would definitely recommend this place! Can't wait to try more stuff on the menu!

What a great little brunch with family we had today! I found this spot on Yelp and it didn't disappoint! I had the smoked salmon flatbread which was absolutely delicious! The bottle of Prosecco with the mango nectar was yummy! Everyone enjoyed their email and the service, for being just one person serving, was great! We found out that this was the second weekend since they started brunch and glad they did!

Town House Kitchen + Drinks is surely developing and finding their footing in New Rochelle. If you are an oyster lover, this is a place for you to try. I trust very few places with oysters since I have been horrified by some I have ordered in the neighborhood and beyond. Even at places on our beloved City Island where you would think you could order good, quality oysters safely. Aside from the opening week where they managed to impress me with service and food. They did have a few (minor) areas of improvement to work on. I am happy to report that they are doing well and pushing out really nice dishes. They have added some new dishes and I heard directly from a manager that they are close to releasing a few more. I am very eager to return because I am sure whatever they cook up will be delicious. First trip out during opening week we tried the seafood tower, mussels, and the pork Milanese. All were very good. My least favorite was the pork because it was slightly overdone but nothing worth complaining about. The mussels were bursting with flavor and the tower was a great way to try their cold fresh seafood. This trip I ordered two rounds of oysters and their newly added spinach dip. Highly recommend. The wine list should also be mentioned. It's small but well thought out. I have tried a few bottles and my favorite so far is a reisling from finger lakes. It's truly a gem. The space is gorgeous and they have big plans to utilize all the floors in the near future. The service alone will have you planning your next visit out. MAINE OYSTERS house cocktail sauce, mignonette, lemon They are properly cleaned and so fresh. I appreciate that the flesh of the oyster is left untouched after shucking and I also love that they serve them with extra horseradish on the side without you having to ask. Excellent touch. SKILLET SPINACH-ARTICHOKE DIP fresh mozzarella, pecorino, parmesan This came out super hot as it is prepared in a cast iron skillet. They amount of cheese may make some uncomfortable but for a cheese lover like myself I found it to be perfect! Loaded with fresh spinach and left nothing to be desired other than maybe some extra chips Give them a try.

Ask the Community - Town House Kitchen & Drinks

    Do you have outdoor dining?

They don't have outdoor dining, but in nice weather they open the front doors for fresh air and sun.

Should I choose first or second floor seating?

Both have their own personality. Upstairs tends to be a bit more home-y and quiet. Downstairs is more lively with a busier bar.

We started off with some drinks, and their jerk spring rolls and codfish fritters. Everything was really good. Hubby had their lomo saltado. He said it was OK but the rice was dry and it wasn't served as it should be, with the sauté on top of the French fries. I had the ribeye with mac & cheese and cabbage slaw. The steak temp was perfect, as was the mac. The slaw was bland - I wish I ordered a different side. My kiddo had their chicken fingers w/French fries, and liked it. My MIL had their pollo a la brasa, and enjoyed it as well. We surprised hubby with a happy birthday red velvet slice and headed out. Service was great and it was a vibe with the live music. The service and food, on the other hand, were quite a mixed bag. We ordered a margherita pizza, pancake tacos, steak and eggs, and French toast with a side of sausage--the pizza, at least, was good. However, the "French toast" was more like an anemic panini press trying to pass as French toast. The steak and eggs comprised of a fairly well-cooked (that is, it was the right temperature) yet underseasoned steak of a relatively dubious cut, underseasoned home fries, and eggs done wrong (sunny side instead of over easy). The lattermost was the start of the problem, as I was willing to give it a shot, but found the texture off-putting. In light of this, I brought the problem to our server Adalia, who brought it to her manager Elvia. Thankfully I had someone else with me to tell me what happened: Elvia came over without addressing me on their error, silently took a look at my plate and instructed Adalia to have the kitchen put the eggs back on the fire. She takes my plate to extract the eggs, and brings them back (unsurprisingly) completely overdone, first in Elvia's hands, then in Adalia's for her to serve; we send for a refire, and they come back correct 7 minutes or so after I've already finished eating. Considering the hassle it took to get them, I couldn't trust it enough to eat, leading them to waste as well. After all was said and done, the GM Amer comes over to see how things were, and was thankfully helpful and understanding of our situation. Here's the rub: I was initially willing to overlook the steak, the home fries, and even the eggs if the error was properly ameliorated. Adalia and Amer both did very well, and I'm grateful for them for that; Elvia, on the other hand, managed to break the chain of competent customer service by directing the server to handle the problem in a way that was set up for failure (if you mess up an egg, it's an immediate refire because of how the egg cooks in the first place -- Amer also arrested to that policy) all without addressing us and taking accountability, due to negligence or whatever else. Not only that, but when sending the incorrect eggs over the second time, she couldn't even bring it to us herself--it would have been easy, seeing as she was the one that originally had them--and left Adalia and her tip to potentially take the fire if the patrons happen to be angry. Mistakes are fine--everyone makes them--but I'd describe this as cowardly more than anything else, and I take issue with that in particular from a leadership standpoint. While Amer graciously extended an invitation for a better experience next time, I can't say I'll be taking him up on the offer when their service and food are this misaligned; unfortunately, a disappointment overall.

Disappointed by the experience -- not what we've come to expect from The Modern…read more The four of us have been to The Modern many times and usually enjoy sitting at the bar for a more relaxed experience. Last night, however, was deeply disappointing. From the start, there was pressure to place food orders quickly, even though we were just settling in. We did order appetizers and later entrees--not an unreasonable timeline--but it felt like we were being hurried for no reason. The real issue came when we ordered a gluten-free pizza with toppings. What was delivered was essentially a round piece of bread with toppings -- not remotely what we expected. We tried several times to flag down the bartender, who proved extremely difficult to get the attention of. When we finally spoke to him and explained the error, the pizza was taken back, but then... nothing. We waited. And waited. More than 30 minutes passed while the rest of us finished our meals -- and still no replacement pizza. When we brought it up again, the bartender's attitude was indifferent at best. Frustrated, I went to the hostess stand and explained the situation. To their credit, the response was immediate: a manager stepped in, apologized, offered a round of drinks on the house, and ensured the corrected dish came out quickly. That level of service--from the manager and hostess--was appreciated and helped salvage the evening, but the overall experience was the worst we've ever had at The Modern. We may go back, but it will be with hesitation. The service at the bar needs serious attention. A restaurant of this caliber should never let service--or guest experience--slip this far.

My immediate thought was to say, "Okay, we'll be on our way then." I didn't like that my date was pressured into ordering something. THEN she hits us with "cash only." Ugh. The cocktails. She was majorly pushing these concoctions she'd made up and said every single cocktail was $15, so we might as well go with the boozier one (as opposed to what we wanted which was something simple like gin & tonic), so we relented. They were OK. Would never order again, though. Other than the desperation and pushiness of the bartender, the ambiance was great! Fun clientele and gothy decor. The brussel sprouts were deliciously crispy with a pleasantly sweet sauce. I enjoyed the pistachios on them. The eggplant fries were a unique offering and very tasty topped with crumbled parmesan cheese. They would've been even better with a dipping sauce. For my main, I had the mushroom ravioli. The sauce was rich and creamy and it was topped with sharp parmesan and arugula. I enjoyed it, but the portion size was quite small, as the dish only included four pieces of ravioli.
