After escaping the room (with only 46 seconds left...*pants), I was blown away by how creative and techy this place was. Out of maybe the 5 or 6 different places I've been to for an escape the room (some out of state, some around the area), this was my favorite one. With only 3 reviews seen on Yelp, I was a little hesitant to choose this place over so many others in the area. Groupon gave us a good price, so we went with this, and I'm glad we did. We did the "my crazy ex" room, which was great, and I hope to be back for the high school reunion, which the owner said had some scary features added to it. He said he used to work with haunted houses too, so I'm pretty interested in seeing what that one is like. It is similar to other escape the rooms where you find clues and input it in the locks to unlock the various locks in the room, but this was was so techy that they used other creative tactics to unlock boxes, drawers, etc. To be honest, I at first thought it was a little lame because I thought the person watching us just opened things with a press of a button when we did different actions, but I asked later on, and he showed us how different things worked. Hard to describe without giving spoilers of the room, but I'd have to say I was seriously mind blown about how creative things were and how fancy the technology was here. I loved this factor added into it. They have a 10 minute game that's only $5 a person on certain hours of weekdays, so we will most likely be back for this too! I definitely was hesitant at first to come here due to a few things (barely any Yelp reviews, homemade looking winner/loser signs/a few things that made it not look as professional or techy (the Hotmail email address :D....sorry, break escape for throwing you under here), but after experiencing their room, I'd really have to say there is a mastermind here who made these and put these rooms together. We've done all the rooms at break escape and while most are somewhat basic in comparison to other escape room places, they are incredibly fun and at times challenging. The room masters are always responsive and helpful. If you enjoy thinking and logical puzzles, this is for you! read more

Me and my cousins went to this escape room and it was their first time doing one while I have done 2 others. Overall we had plenty of fun with the puzzles but the reason I gave it 4 stars was because our room had a window wall and a creepy man walked up and started staring at us, he went away in about 2 minutes but it was definitely scary. This was a great experience though and I would recommend coming for a difficult but fun room. read more

Went there for the 2nd time today! First one we did was high school reunion where we made it out with about 50 seconds left and today went for the "my crazy ex" which we did not escape but definitely got lost on our own misdirection. The game hosts are great and so welcoming (and funny!) It's genuinely exhilarating to hear a cabinet pop open once you solve a clue. Love the setups they have and the narrative behind each room. This was by far the least exciting escape room we have been to " my crazy ex" . The staff member seemed annoyed and bothered to offer assistance. Some hints had to be provided bcz cabinet door supposed to open didn't even open. Place looks run down and it truly was a waste of money. The puzzles lacked more creativity. We had SO much fun in the 10-minute mini escape room as well as in the full length "Denied Entry" room at Break Escape! These rooms were SO creative and full of interesting and challenging puzzles. I loved the variety of puzzle types and was pleasantly surprised at every turn. The clues were helpful but not too revealing, which I really appreciated. I have done pretty much all of the escape rooms in Chicago and these were some of the best. Fantastic escape room! Had the pleasure to do their 10 minute challenge room, as well as their 60 minute Customs room. I would definitely suggest taking a smaller group, but you'll have a blast! As our 96th and 97th rooms, we had a great time. Very well put together, good immersion, and fun puzzles. The owner is very enthusiastic about his craft, and made for a fun night with some conversations about the hobby as well as cool ideas they have going forward. Definitely worth the trip! read more

After doing a terrible room elsewhere, we tried Break Escape later that evening to hopefully have a better experience. They ABSOLUTELY delivered. My favorite Escape room ever! This place is run by the nicest people! They clearly explain how you go about getting the codes and clues before you go in the room so it's super nice for people who have never gone to an escape room. All the rooms are put together so well and the clues are super clever. The mechanics behind unlocking some of the clues are super cool to see. So I went here to pop the question and their My Crazy Ex room was the perfect place to do it! I called them beforehand and Mark was super obliging and accommodated the whole idea. I had asked if they had done a proposal before and said I was the second. So I gave him a piece of paper with directions on it to give to "someone else and record with your phone" and we found it as the last clue. Then she began recording me and I read my proposal. She thought it was still part of the game and when she realized it was real lost it! It was awesome. The clues were quite advanced which made it all the more enjoyable! Way better than I was expecting. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They watch your group the whole time to ensure that the experience goes without any issues. If an issue arises, they are quick to fix it. This prevents any issues from dampening your escape experience. I've done many escape rooms and this place is by far one of the best I've gone to. Have done many escape rooms before but this one was probably my favorite. We did the Entry Denied room and finished with just over a minute on the clock. The room was very detailed and a bit challenging since there was only two of us but we were still able to finish. Good pricing as well. Highly recommend! read more
