Okay so I've never done an Escape Room before, but my group and I were on a day trip to Charleston and it sounded like a fun idea. We had a great time, and teamwork is a MUST. Our group consisted of 9 people and it legit took all of us plus the hell of the worker to solve all the clues. We loved it so much we plan on doing another one in our hometown. This would be a great team building activity/bonding experience/family fun night event. The room was hard but definitely able to be solved. The one hour timer is like a silent reminder of how dumb you really are. Lol. At least that's how our group felt at the time. 10/10 experience. read more

That night was proof that my friends and I have that "big brain synergy" to escape death row in a maximum security prison (but due to the law/regulations, we were never really locked in and can leave at any time, but let's use our imaginations haha). What a great team building/bonding experience. Personally, these rooms are great and the placement/layout/variety is amazing. Lots of things to do than just picking locks and reading (just saying and no spoilers, but yall are in for a treat). We had lots of fun and a great time. This escape room is actually escape rooms. You really got to think outside of the box. 60 minutes on the clock with 3 hints (you can get a 4th one if you do a Tik-Tok dance). My friends and I really wanted to do this with no hints, but we used 3. Fortunately, we solved the complicated puzzles that stumped others, but the hints were used for the more easier/obvious ones haha. Would definitely come here again. I wished we could had done all of them. Employee here was amazing and funny. Amazing service and excellent vibes. Fun fact: there is a NES for you to play some classic games while waiting. Bro this was HARD. Some Murderinos and I gathered together, along with a group of 3 previously-unknown-to-us friends, and we got locked in the Serial Killer room. We all prided ourselves on our sleuth skills and found so. many. clues.... until we realized we didn't know how to use them. Maybe 8 chefs in the kitchen is too many? With 30 seconds left on the clock, and after running out of free clues, we realized we knew the answer, and fell short of unlocking the door by mere seconds. We should have trusted our guts and not allowed ourselves to overthink so much, but it was a really fun challenge and we will definitely be trying another room in the future! read more

I had been wanting to try an escape game for awhile so I was super excited when Break Out offered a half-off deal on Groupon for their recently opened spot in West Ashley. They are currently offering an Escape from Death Row room and a Serial Killer room (a bank heist one should be ready in a few weeks). We opted for the Death Row room. Each room has a max of 8 participants so if you don't want to be joined by others, you will have to book the entire room. There were 4 in our group (including fellow Yelper Meg T.) and we were joined by another group of four. Once you are in the room, the time starts ticking and you have to get to work figuring out stuff... I'm not going to give away any spoilers though...you are going to have to go for yourself and see how it all plays out! Love love love the escape rooms here! They are my favorite and I've done a lot! And the guy (I'm sorry I can't remember your name!) that works there is so awesome! He actually drove in at the last minute because we decided to do a couple rooms. So we've done all three games here and they are all different! Two of the rooms even caused me to shriek in fear/surprise at times ... and I am not easily stirred! They seem to be equally challenging - you will need to work together and be very vocal. There are no silly ideas either- try everything! Touch everything! The rooms were extremely interactive, so very creative and very fun! I'm sad that we've done all the rooms- I want to go back for more! Make sure your phone is charged as you will most likely want to use a flashlight; the rooms are a little dark. They offer you bottles of water and the restroom is clean. There is a discount if you book the entire room. If you have less than 8 people and don't work well with others (‍) go during the week. But be warned- they aren't always in the office and might only come in if there are reservations. We unfortunately did not escape the room but it was a great bonding experience! I'm the absolute worst with jump scares and horror movies in general. Caution advised if you have smaller children. I liked the difficulty of the game and various puzzles. If there was anything I'd hope for next time is probably a little better lighting read more

We do a fair share of escape rooms. I always get frustrated when there is a step that is just not possible to figure out without using one of your hints .... But I have come to realize most of them work that way. And yes, we experienced this today. However, it was really fun. We went to Break Out a couple of months ago with a group from our gym. We did the Escape From Death Row room and had an absolute blast. We were able to work together pretty well and only ended up needing help twice from the hosts. A couple of the clues were pretty easy to figure out but most of them really had us thinking hard. And a couple of them require teamwork so don't go with people with whom you can't communicate! I brought the baby (at the time just a few weeks old) with us assuming that since he was so young and would be in the carrier the whole time that it'd be fine (I did the Boise Escape Room with a baby in a carrier) and it was though he said they typically don't allow it. We had a great time and I plan to go back and try the other rooms! read more

So much fun! We did the Escape from Death Row Room and it was extremely hard. We had two adults and a 13 yr old, and I'm slightly embarrassed to say we didn't make it out. We were greeted by two nice employees (I'm sorry I didn't catch the Game Master's name), and they were both great. Our Game Master had a great personality and helped us out throughout our time in prison. I've done one other escape room and this one was a lot harder. Last room we had more people so I think the more you have, the more likely you are to escape. The puzzles were tricky and clues were interesting and good. Would love to see a 50% off to try again. We rented 6 spots in the bank heist escape room the day ahead of time for a recent bachelor party. We found out when we arrived that we had been matched with two others, which was somewhat disappointing. However, the extra two ended up being quite fun and didn't detract from the fun for our group. The staff was fun and helpful, and the escape room was a fun challenge through multiple rooms. We ended up working our way out in about 45 minutes, and everyone had a fantastic time. A bit expensive for an hour or less event ($28/p), but we all enjoyed it and talked about it the rest of the trip. Clearly a success! read more

My friends and I completed the Escaping Death Row room here. The service outside of the room was lacking, but the gamemaster was mostly engaging as we needed hints or clues. The room itself had an excellent design, both in terms of immersive experience and difficulty. Our group of 4 was a bit small. I would highly recommend this room for any large group! read more

Escape Death Row was intense and you definitely need to be able to work together and communicate effectively to get out (we were tested for sure haha). This was a first where something was added after we had started...no big deal but it was different. ‍ Serial Killer we had a big group with us. We loved it. The group made it super fun and full of laughter throughout. We escaped! Great times! One day we showed up and no one was there and it was during their business hours they had posted online. We ended up just going to another escape room in the area. We traveled far to experience escape rooms so we were a bit upset. But we came back to try Serial Killer and the great experience as described above. No "regerts"! read more

I gotta say, I've always loved puzzles and riddles. So an escape room is something I've wanted to do for a while. I didn't know what to expect, was it going to be too corny and simple, or would it be too hard. Well. It was just about perfect. We made it to the last clue but just couldn't get it in time. You start in a room, and then, well then you start trying to find clues, jeys, numbers, anything to help unlock doors. It's so much much for a group of freinds or family to go to. The maximum number of people in each game is 8, which we found to be just a bit to many for the size of the game. 6 would be best we thought afterwards, but we had such a great time we will definitely be going back to try the prison break room, and are looking forward to the Bank Heist room once it's complete! If you're looking for a fun activity to do that requires finding clues, using logic, and getting up off that couch I'd highly recommend it! You get 60 mins to escape! Good luck! read more

Fellow Yelper Erika W and I bought a Groupon to try this for 50% off, and we went tonight with our husbands. We were greeted by the owner with beers and a few instructions. We chose the Death Row experience and were locked in their "jail" for an hour to try and get out with 2 other couples. I don't want to give too much away so I'll just say that we looked for clues all over and unlocked different rooms. I'm happy to report that we finished with 7 to spare and had a blast. Obviously, we can't go back and do the same one since it will be the same next time, but we look forward to trying another one of their puzzles! read more

Had SO much fun here with girlfriends for my bachelorette. I highly recommend doing this. I was worried the room would be scary, but we did the bank heist one so it wasn't scary. It was really exciting and challenging!! I wish that you could see the countdown clock the entire time. There were a couple errors with the room, like one of the locks was accidentally unlocked when we walked in and one lock wasn't functioning properly. We also wanted a little more of a story on the room other than "you're robbing the bank" Even though there is room for small improvements, I still gave 5 stars because we had so much fun! read more

We had so much fun doing this! Even though we completely and utterly fell flat on our faces and never escaped (or in our case completed the bank heist), we had a ball! Just when we thought we were making some progress, we found ourselves starting over with our clues. We will definitely be back and bring some extra people with us because we obviously need the extra help. I will say that the building was easy to find, but locating the place was a little hard. We pulled into the parking lot and then left because there wasn't any signage. It kind of looked like a business park of some sort, but after calling we were directed back to the right building.
