My friends and I had so much fun during our first Time Traveler Adventures experience last year, that we re-booked when we visited Charleston again this summer. The adventure takes you through a small walking tour of the city over a few hours, visiting public landmarks and local businesses, all in the name of solving thoughtfully crafted puzzles. Meghan is such a wonderful person to talk to and it's clear that she puts a lot of effort into curating an enjoyable experience for her guests. Excellent tourist game! They give you a place to meet and a briefcase with your puzzles. The game took us to some cool spots in town for the next clue and gave us some cool history with every spot we stopped at. This is another fun "activity event" space in downtown Charleston. Similar to escape rooms, our group had to resolve a situation. Having done an escape room previously at another location, this one was not as exciting, but still a fun activity. (No spoilers here.) When searching for a great destination Escape Room in Charleston to add to my trip for the weekend, every source I came across said I absolutely had to go to Time Traveler. They weren't wrong. I've done nearly 40 escape rooms so far and this spot is near the top for sure. Unique puzzles, excellent theming, available "room service" beer runs, and some of the most friendly and genuine owners I've met. Meghan was a joy before, during, and after the room. The whole group had a great time and there was just about enough to do for each of us (group of 4) in the JFK room. I wish there would have been a few more puzzles maybe, and that some of the puzzles were themed a bit better but overall this was one of my favorite rooms and am so glad to have gone! read more

We gave them 400 dollars and they wouldn't let us do our escape room because we were stuck in traffic. They stole our money. Owner is out of country and unwilling to help us. Escape in 60 is better. We had a nice time trying to break out of the Apothecary room. The puzzles were interesting and there were types of locks that I had never seen before. Ryan was a great cluemaster and respected our wishes not to give clues unless we asked for them. The only thing the room lacked was some sort of writing device for players to use, especially for the very last puzzle of the game. Either a blackboard or one of those plastic writing tablets that you can carry around and clear with a push of a button (we've used these in a few other rooms). read more

What a fun time. Adrianna was a great hostess, explained everything, and offered up subtle hints when we asked. Building is historic and looks newly renovated. They have multiple adventures and it was not that easy. We almost "made it out". At the end, Adrianna did explain where we went wrong and how close we really were. read more

Took my team for a work activity here and am so happy we chose this place! We had a group of 10 and split 5 against 5. One group did the APOTHECARY and my group did the Boarding House. The girls at the front were so fun and really helped make it a great time. Perk is there's a "full service" bar and you can bring your drinks into the room AND they'll deliver refills while you try to escape! I'll definitely be back to try the other rooms! read more

Recently went for my first ever escape room experience and had a blast! They have two rooms, and are currently working on a third, that are Charleston-themed, which is a nice touch. My group did the room based on Lavinia Fisher who, according to legend, was America's first serial killer. While that's almost certainly not true, she was the first woman executed by the State of South Carolina, so there's that... The puzzles were all difficult and clever enough to be challenging but intuitive enough that they were fun and solvable. They also did a good job crafting puzzles that tied into the room and story cohesively. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and willing to give you as much or as little help as you'd like to solve the puzzles so it's a great place to go for the novice escapee. From what I understand, they're one of the only, if not the only, place in town that has a beer and wine bar so obviously that's a huge plus!! read more

We do lots of escape games and this one was really terrific. The host made it so we were able to get a hint that wasn't a dead giveaway and we were able to solve with just three people in 50 minutes. The story was great and historically tied. And our 8 year old was able to help solve the puzzles successfully. A really fun visit! read more

Megan did a great job explaining the room to us prior to starting. There was a lovely lounge with beer and wine for before or after the game. The room for the Apothecary story was well laid out and the clues/puzzles fun and challenging for our group. In our group of 8, we had five people who had never done an escape room. They are all excited to do another. We completed our mission and escaped which made it even better. I will definitely be back again on my next trip back to Charleston! read more

I can't say enough about Meghan's great customer service. We had a hiccup on our end during booking and she couldn't have been more considerate in helping us get our investigative experience back on track. We only did one room that day but we will be back each time we visit Charleston to do all the rest. We had previously done two other local companies but we all agreed we enjoyed this one the most. It was more entertaining and hands on puzzle solving than the others and the investigation flowed along better. Also communication with Meghan during the event was much clearer than other places and her clues were productive and tailor made to our needs at that moment. She didn't give too much away. Just the right nudge. It was very well rounded in terms of actual puzzles and devices, not just constant deluge of letter/number codes for padlocks that we have experienced at other places. This made it more inclusive for everyone in the group and we found we all worked together the entire time instead of pairing off trying to just mostly decipher codes as we have done at other places. Very enjoyable experience and we all highly recommend it for a fun event for 4 or more people. (And I wonder if Meghan ever figured out how I managed to defeat one padlock the wrong way LOL!). The only escape game I have ever played and also the most fun escape game I have ever played. Cherish was super sweet and explained everything to us and really got us in the mindset before we went in. All the clues were very inventive and exciting. It was just my mom and I playing the game, and she gave us little clues to help us along and we finished the game! We played the Lavinia Fisher game. The whole room fit with the time period. My two best friends and I came for a pre-dinner activity and had the BEST time! I've done one other escape room in town and it was so ghetto compared to what we experienced here. This place for starters is immaculate and HAS A BAR! That's right, we were able to drink while we were in this room for an hour finding clues. Meghan was awesome and even brought us a re-fill when we yelled out "room service". Aside from that, the room really does challenge you, but is so much fun! We'll definitely be back to try others. This was such a fun escape room experience! I've never done one that tied into local history, which made this one extra interesting. We did the Lavinia Fisher room with a group of strangers. Cherish was a delight and a fantastic games master. This is certainly one of the smaller escape experiences I've been to, but I can tell they're trying to grow. The room was really fun and had some interesting touches I wasnt expecting. Personally, I prefer rooms that lead into other rooms, and the Lavinia is a single room experience. It wasnt as mind blowing to me as some rooms I've done, but it was still extremely well done and we solved it in about 40 minutes. Would definitely come back here! read more

We have gone to quite a few escape rooms, we found this company and tried the apothecary room. This was one of the most well thought out rooms I've done! Everything was painstakingly to period, down to the locks. The room was difficult but we got through with 4 people and a couple clues. I can't wait to go back! Our group of six broke out of the Apothecary Room. We had a blast! We were celebrating our friend's birthday and were able to walk to great bars and restaurants before and after our time in the escape room. The mystery we solved to get out of the room was actually based on Charleston history, which was a cool twist. Bonus, Time Traveler sells beer and wine to enjoy while there. This room was a lot of fun. The room manages to avoid just having a lots of number combinations and instead has really immersive and well thought out puzzles. Speaking to the founder you can tell she really cares and they are working hard to make the room fun for everyone. The most amazing escape room experience I've ever had. my husband and I went with Trotts Apothecary, and we were not disappointed. the puzzles are clever and fun, even the music was top notch and added to the overall feel of the room. I was in Charleston for a bachelorette party and while walking down King Street we happened upon Time Traveler Escape Games. 3 out of 4 of us had never done an escape room before so we were excited to try something new. We went inside and were greeted by Meghan who helped us book a room for later that afternoon. When we arrived for our adventure Meghan again greeted us and was super welcoming! She was very accommodating and fun. She truly has a great personality for this job! We were extra excited when Meghan told us we could play a specific room which she previously had told us was unavailable. All of the room choices sounded interesting and I liked that they were all historically based. The game was so much fun and we made it out in time! I also liked that you could have a drink beforehand if you wanted and the tickets for the adventure were very well priced. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting and when I come back to Charleston I will definitely be giving them another visit! read more
