Popped in while visiting the area. I was gonna be seated when I noticed the FULL BAR in the back. Yes, a breakfast spot with a full bar. The bartender, Kyla, and the entire staff were extremely nice and helpful. I had an amazing espresso martini and coffee. I also had the Mediterranean omelette. It was so good, I brought my partner back and she had the harvest omelette that was also delicious. The fresh toast was also amazing ....anddddd we had a flight! The service is everything. The wait staff are some of the nicest people I know and they deliver on a personal level. The food is always good and their seasonal drinks are a fun addition. My plate did come with grits and I told them I didn't want them (I don't like grits) since they didn't have potatoes anymore. Every time I come here the service is amazing. They are always so nice and thoughtful despite having a packed restaurant and a waitlist. I have also never had a bad meal here. I've ordered The Breakfast Sampler, Ruiz Steak and Eggs, and most recently the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich. First time trying Breakfast At Ruiz. It was definitely a great choice. We arrived right around 9:30 expecting it to be packed but there was no wait. She was smiling and friendly asking if we had visited before or if it was our first time. She asked if we had any questions in the menu and took our drink order after explaining a few questions on the mimosas. We looked at the menu and had quite a time choosing. The menu is not the same as most breakfast places as they have they standard fare but also offer some different options. Settled on the Mediterranean omelette with potatoes and the classic breakfast with bacon. Excellent choice on both. The food arrived by a very friendly server and our server checked on us within moments. The omelet was delicious. The filling was a good amount but not too much. The cheese and sauce complimented the filling and was very tasty. The potatoes were crispy but not overdone. The classic breakfast was two pieces of French toast with bacon and eggs. All were cooked perfectly and delicious. Only needed a small amount of syrup because well French toast always needs a bit of syrup. The portions were ample yet not too much. The mimosas were a nice size and mixed in a good ratio so it was very tasty. Everyone we encountered had a smile and was friendly. Way to make a great first impression. We will return because it was good food and good service and the menu wasn't the same as any other breakfast place. Definitely had a unique vibe and menu. Haven't tried it yet? Do yourself a favor and go. Public parking behind the building on meeting street or across state street in the public lot or parking garage. My experience here was very average. The service was good, however the restaurant itself was tiny. It is definitely not conducive to a large group outing so just know that before you go. I think if you are coming for mimosas this is a great place, however the menu was very limited. The waffle I ordered was ok, it was really sweet which i didn't love. We both ordered a side of bacon and we received one plate with 4 slices of bacon. Considering the fact that there are multiple breakfast joints in walking distance to here with plenty more seating and menu options, I probably wouldn't elect to come back here. read more

I've gotten the steak sandwich three times and it's so good I haven't branched out to try other things. The home fries are cooked to the perfect consistency. Servers are consistently hospitable. WHEW!!!! I wish I lived closer to Columbia so I could come here more often. I want to start off by commending the staff. They are absolutely spectacular and so so friendly. I felt so welcome and my waiter had no problem giving me the time I needed to look over the menu and also explain some of their menu items and how they are prepared. That always intrigues me. I love that about restaurants. This restaurant is pretty small and has the capacity of about 50 people. There was no parking in the front, so I took a left at the light and parked in the back of the building and walked the colorful path to get to the front door. I chose to have the shrimp and grits. I was told that the grits were made with heavy whipping cream and seasoned very well. So glad I went with this option. It was lovely! They also have different options for their mimosas :), which is always fun. I highly recommend trying this place. You will not be disappointed. read more

I wanted to give Breakfast at Ruiz another try, and since it was just my husband and me, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to do so. It was not packed because it was a Thursday morning. The hostess sat us down right away and was very nice. Our server was very friendly and consistent. We both ordered the steak and eggs, but I ordered the grits with the gouda cheese and a side of french toast. The ribeye steak was enjoyable. It had a bit of flavor and was cooked pretty well. I requested a medium temperature, and I received pretty much that. I had a lot of fatty pieces on my cut, but that's just the nature of the beast. I enjoyed it and loved that it was sliced. The gouda cheese was shredded and lightly sprinkled on top of the grits. The grits were nice and creamy. I added a little bit of salt and pepper. They were really good. The french toasts were delicious. The portion is small, but the little crunch takes the french toasts to another level. I would definitely order those again. I am glad I was able to return and have a good experience. Coming when they are not overly crowded may be the key. It was low-key and comfortable, and the food was good. There was no street parking available, so we parked in the back of the strip and walked through the breezeway. read more

Could not wait to try this spot and I must say my food was delicious! and I didn't wait long for it! I had the Banana foster waffle (minus the bananas) with a scrambled egg and cheese. The rum sauce was supposed to come on the side, but that's ok. The sauce was delicious and I used very little syrup. So, this little spot is crowded on Sundays and I noticed the regular customers were treated special ( greeted w/hugs and smiles). The young lady at the bar was so overwhelmed, she didn't really pay attention to who was sat when- I totally get it- she didn't make time to see if anyone needed anything. My best friend was inappropriately touched by a female staff member and when I reported it to the business, Iris Perea, the owner, blocked me after seemingly being so understanding. Below is the email thread, then I was blocked. Sent this to you all in Instagram but I'm following through... I frequent this restaurant often with my husband, my mom, and my best friend.  Never have I been made to feel so awkward. I was with my best friend on Saturday morning. We sat at the bar and went about our business.  My friend asked why the Indian dude kept staring at him like that.  Me thinking nothing of it said, oh that's Raj, he knows me and my family from coming in here. Then we realized he must be playing morality police thinking something was off because I was in there with a male who was not my husband.  My friend was facing towards the end of the bar where I was facing forward so I didn't see what my friend saw and I didn't care because I thought nothing of it.  As we were going to leave the waitress put her and on my friends thigh and squeezed it. My friend looked at me wide eyed like wtf and I looked at him like ‍. After we left he told me how they had all been in the corner quietly chatting while looking back and forth at us. He thinks she did it to see my reac reaction to see if I would act like a jealous woman so they could infer that something was going on between us. I didn't react because he's my friend. But even if something was going on it's none of their business and we are adults this is not high school.  I was embarrassed for my friend that he was made to feel so uncomfortable when this is his second time in that restaurant. I am ashamed of your staff for the way they behaved and it doesn't make me want to go back in there. That woman should not have placed her hand on his leg and squeezed his leg. He is a victim of sexual assault and it made him very uncomfortable. I'm horrible with names but I really love the woman who just had a baby in the past two times I've been there she is not been there. She's one of the reasons we go back. But after this experience I really don't feel comfortable going back. At first I wasn't going to complain, but the more I thought of what happened, and the more I think about what that woman did to my friend.  Imagine a male waiter rubs a female customers thigh and squeezes it.
